Love this scotch.
One of my favourites. Much better than some other more famous peated whiskies. Interesting review thanks.
I could go broke trying all the stuff you like. So far everything I’ve bought based on your reviews I’ve really enjoyed. Thank you
Wow! The colour difference is crazy! I would LOVE to know why the colour is so different than the bottle I had most recently. Mine was more or less a straw colour. None of the brown/red colour. The bottle I had also clearly stated non-chill filtered, non coloured. It would be a shame if they started in with the e150!
Thank you for good review.
Had this for the first time yesterday. I was not disappointed.
Gonna have to try this one.
This was the bottle that got me hooked on peated whisky. Before this I despised the smoke. Cheers!
The Ledaig 13 is finished in Amontillado casks. Maybe a few of those barrels made their way into this Ten. Speaking of the Ledaig 13, it's about $100 but it is cask strength, and the Amontillado finish is kind of unique. It is absolutely delicious! You should look for a bottle or at least a sample.
Ledaig 10 is my favorite so far... looking forward to the Head to Head comparison video... I have a Ballechin on deck as well as the Ardbegs
E 150 added in new bottling for sure
Thanks Erik , Ledaig has been my intro Peat dram to my friends and I have come to love it, subtle yet muscular, sweet and sour, and just a nice ashy Laphroaig smoke. The grilled peach pineapple keeps my sweet tooth happy, and the smoke just lures me in , time after time. love the stuff. thanks!!
Glad you like it!
Thanks for the concise yet detailed review...a quality whisky at a very good price point in the Sacramento area at $55-$57. Keep up the great reviews👍
Thanks for watching!
Erik, great review! Ledaig 10y is a great whisky. In my opinion, It has a meaty note, which reminds me of Lagavulin 16y. Slàinte!!
One of my favorites, love the craft presentation. Wish more single malts were uncolored non chill filtered. Also my Ledaig was much lighter in color, not sure what happened there.
Absolutely LOVE this whisky. Erik, no more videos on this! 🤪 I like being able to get it at a great price point!
This a whisky that disappears all to fast. I soon learned Ledaig 10yr would always need a companion bottle on the back shelf. Both Ardbeg AN OA and Ledaig 10yr are bottles which I share with the peated curious. As always, thanks for your insight.
And excellent dram for the buck $70 here in Canada nb
Definitely the most rewarding whiskey I tried last year, although it was pretty tame by the end of the bottle
If they don’t write natural colour then they must add some E150. However, I thoroughly enjoy this whisky too and have bought a second bottle. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers, S.
Exactly i have several.older bottling and hugh color differences
Great video! Love Ledaig 10 which is $45 in my area. Will you be reviewing the Andalusia Cask Strength? I was able to pick up the Cask Strength finished in PX. Its amazing! Very similar to the famed Kilkkeran 8 Olorosso CS and Hazelburn 14 Olorosso.
Great stuff Erik. Just saw a review of this in the last couple of days (Malt Box Whisky of th year) that said that the malt in this is from Port Ellen on Islay. Wondering what spec it is as they supply to most of the big Islay distillerys. Cheers and Happy New Year
I LOVE this bottle! In a tasting session, I actually picked it OVER Ardbeg 10. I would be buying this all the time but it's $75 in Oregon, much too expensive for a 10. Sooo Ardbeg 10 still reigns supreme for price/quality.
Our bottle was not that dark btw.
Thanks for the feedback about the color.
Your totally right about the color. My bottle is much more ligh color
To me the finish on this scotch is a dominant roasted hazelnut with undertones of oak vanillas and ash. 92/100 for me
Great review. Going to get one of these as soon as possible............ And it is totally your fault Erik.
Think the comparison with Kildalton Coast is spot on. Not the other Islay but Laphroaig, Laga and Ardbeg are spot on. Very well made, as Distel usually is. Don't think they'd let E150 near it, because what is the plus?
Hey Erik i heard that the tobermory 12 is using some virgin oak which the tobermory 10 did not. Maybe they also use some virgin oak in Ledaig 10 now.
I've got the 18 and it's a bruiser! Also a good value for a heavily peated 18. P.S. Natural Colour 😉
Good to know!
Just judging by the colour and the taste, I'd swear this one has some sherry cask maturation too. Cheers, Erik 🥃
Thanks for the feedback about the color.
Hi Erik, good review! Ledaig is one of my ‘gems’ too, especially from independent bottlers at cask strength. But with the official 10yo, I noticed something weird with previous bottles. Normally, after opening the bottle, a whisky gets better once the level drops. But with Ledaig 10, my experience is actually that the whisky LOSES depth and complexity over time (weeks/months). Even at 46,3% strength. Have you noticed this phenomenon as well? Keep up the good work!
I've not gotten far long enough to notice any loss of depth. I'll see how it goes.
Eric you've gotta try Longrow by Springbank if you haven't...better than a lot of Islay releases.
Islay spirits tend to be bitter and thin, i.e. laphroig bannahabon...it is a good delivery for the peat smoke...but I find when you peat a spirit that is much heartier and savory like springbank or fruitier like benriach, it takes the dram to new heights.
Not dissing Islay though, Ardbeg is always dynamic, and I happen to be drinking a signatory coal ila 9 now, and you can taste the fruitier notes and more delicate notes that I'm refering to under all the phenol...it's great!
I’ve been to 40 distilleries in Scotland including Springbank. So I’ve had a number of their bottlings. Here is my video on Springbank Distillery: ruclips.net/video/dKjVXio-q0s/видео.html
Ledaig 10 is natural color, non-chill filtered. The darker color could possibly be due some a batch having more active casks. Another possibility is if Ledaig doesn't have a global policy, bottling for some markets may have coloring added, but I doubt so under Distell.
Actually according to the label on the bottles sent to Germany it has added colorings.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies That's very unfortunate! I checked again my bottle label, it says un-chill filtered and is silent on coloring. Which means my bottle probably has caramel coloring too! :(
Echo from islay sounds tasty. 😊 got ledaig 10 and rioja. Have you tried rioja yet?
I've not tried the Rioja cask. Is it good?
Germany has laws that make it mandatory to indicate whether there’s coloring or not. Ledaig 10 is natural color: www.schottischerwhisky.com/ledaig-10-peated.html And you already knew but Laphroaig quarter cask is caramel colored, like a lot of others (indicated as « Farbstoff » in German). Ledaig and Ardbeg rule with their original presentation and quality/price ratio 👌🏻 Thanks for the review, my first Ledaig 10 will be home on Tuesday ! PS there are of course German sellers that write that every whisk(e)y is colored, assholes rising everywhere from the blackpitts 😂

Had this one in head to head with Caol Ila 12 and Talisker 10. Ledaig wins!
But the newest release of Ledaig 10 (with big 10 on the label) I doesn't like at all. I'll sad 10-12 points less.
Nice review. According to some German shop sellers, colour is unfortunately added. Shame on Ledaig !!!
Doesn't need to be higher than 90 solid points for $57. But I agree, the color is highly questionable. I could concur with a sherry finish.
I have to ask. What is your highest rated whiskey to this point?
Glendronach Hand Filled. It is a bottle I filled straight from the cask at the distillery. 100 points.
Hy erik Ledaig doesn,t colour or chill fillter their whisky's greetings from the the netherlands
Where is the coloring stated on bottle or box? Unchill filtered is so e150 is added as I have older bottles and hugh difference in color
