    I describe this whiskey as a campfire s’more with jam on top. It is on my scotch Mt. Rushmore.

    Another great, in-depth, informative review. I recently found your channel and your reviews have really helped me decide what to try next on my Scotch journey. This stuff ain't cheap so I don't like the blind buy approach lol. Ardbeg 10 was literally the first whisk(e)y I actually loved and what first got me into actually appreciating it instead of just buying something cheap to get wasted, and is still my number 1 go-to. However, I've recently finally started to be able to pick up and appreciate different characteristics, notes, flavors, etc from different regions. As I learn more about what I prefer I tend to refer back to yours and a few other channels to help me decide which direction I want to try next. Thanks for all the work you put into the content. Looking forward to more reviews this year.

    Awesome review! Shout-out to the Mirador in the background. Balcones is my local favorite.

      I'll be doing a Texas Whiskey series after the current Irish series and will review the Mirador.

    Are you certain this version you are reviewing has rum casks in it? I believe only the greyish bottle of the Curiositas and the new smoky ten have adopted this new recipe with Rachel Barrie.
    The black Curiositas doesnt taste the same to me. I have tried both a 2015 Curiositas by Billy Walker and a 2019 Curiositas by Berrie and i must say the old bottling was much more to my liking, much peatier though rougher. Better texture as well !
    Anyway, it is quite far from the old discontinued Benriach 17 septendecim !

      I have searched the internet and 3 sources state they used rum casks, but I don't taste it. The distillery web site has NO information whatsoever.

      @@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies yeah, i went to their site but was disappointed as well...

    Good Video Erik. Last month I bought the last two bottles of the 10 curiositas. The local shop had the Smokey ten and twelve. I bought the Smokey twelve (I have not opened it yet).

    Great review. I get a roasted corn nut flavor. I believe BenRiach is in speyside though. Did they import the peat from the highlands?

    Love Islay peated whisky but the highland peat i have some problem with😬
    Love the unpeated BenRiach though😋

    Great video once again Erik. Love the Curiositas. As you point out, dangerously drinkable. Wishing you a really wonderful New Year.

    Is BenRiach Heart of Speyside (nas) worth of buy? I see it on very low price on local supermarket (24€).

    thank for this review ;)
    Happy new year.
    But the curiositas is made by the master blender Billy Walker.
    And the smoky ten is made by the master blender Rachel BARRIE.
    I just bought the two version ;) The last one is cheaper in France.

    Just picked up the “Smokey” BenRiach 12 triple cask. Very nice, first glass reminds me of orange chocolate Xmas bar with smoke. Excited to spend more time with it while it opens in the bottle more. I will say its a little thin feeling for my liking... (Hardcore Ugie and Laphroaig CS fan).

      It’s the finish I think, not mouth coating and oily like an Islay whisky. Still very nice, I’ll keep you posted.

    I'll keep a lookout for this. I am enjoying the Benromach peat Smoke. Like to hear your thoughts. It's probably similar but for me there's a hint of saline peat, like a Lag8 or young Caol Ila. I haven't had Balveine peat either.

    I just recently bought the Smokey 10 and it's fantastic, but I haven't had the Curiositas so I can't compare. I look forward to your head to head on these. If I can find the older version, I will definitely pick it up if 46%.

    This bottle just was so weird for me, too herbal. I much prefer the Birnie Moss.
    Glen Moray Peated is much much better although it seems only the South African market gets it at 43% abv.

      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  3 года назад +1

      Herbal? I didn't get anything herbal on the whisky.

    • @stingrae789
      @stingrae789 3 года назад +1

      @@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies It could be a batch thing, the bottle I had, had this herbal tincture note which just wasn't my jam. I do often like more herbal characteristics e.g. I get echinacea in our local blend Three Ships 5 which is somewhat modeled after Bowmore and Ardmore.

    Thanks for the review. I've been eyeing this one recently. Bit of an odd question, but how many bottles do you store per shelf? I'm worried of overloading mine. Happy to hear what others do also.

      The problem is that whisky bottles can be tall, taller than standard bookshelves.
      Good luck.
