- In this video, we visualize the stats of 188 countries in terms of their Income, Health and Education levels. The method of comparing is through their Human Development Index (HDI), developed by Indian Nobel prize winner Amartya Sen and Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq. While there may be other factors (such as happiness, freedom, work hours etc) that determine the "best" countries, we shall just assume the level of development (ie HDI ranking) as the sole determinant.
Note:
The yellow '$' Sign refers to Gross National Income per Capita (Adjusted for Purchasing Power Parity) in USD, in short GNI per capita (PPP$).
The green graduation hat represents the average of mean and expected years of schooling.
The red '+' symbol represents both males and females life expectancy in years.
The bar is a linear visualization of the rankings of each of the 3 category, a ranking to compare the relative individual stats of countries.
Due to lack of information, the following countries: Monaco, Nauru, North Korea, San Marino, Somalia, Tuvalu and Vatican City are excluded.
Non UN member states (eg Taiwan & Kosovo) are also excluded.
Territories by countries (eg Hong Kong, Macao & Puerto Rico) are also excluded for consistency, although HK would be tied with Sweden at 7th if included.

That's not how it works. Poorer countries have weaker health care systems and labour markets. It's beneficial to have multiple children, both for survival and productivity. If we take China as an example, it had exponential population growth. Now that it's more developed, people choose to not have as many children. Even with the pause on the One Child Policy, people still don't want to have more children. China's beginning to experience the same aging population problem plaguing Japan

Hello, I am from Venezuela. I can tell why my country is that high in the list, even higher than countries like Colombia or Brazil. The reason is simple. Government has NOT MADE ANY STATISTICS since a long time ago. So I would compare Venezuela, maybe after Haiti the second poorer country in the Western Hemisphere

Okey, watching this video I feel obliged to clarify something about Venezuela (my country), seing that Venezuela was placed rank 77 surpassing several Latin American countries does not mean it is "better country" than the others mencioned countries. At first I thought they used old information but seeing that this video was based on data from 2018 I started to doubt the information.
First of all, the GNI is completely wrong, knowing that the monthly minimum wage in Venezuela is 19800bs that would be $7 (yes, SEVEN DOLLARS). May sound crazy but it is the sad truth, no way Venezuela has a GNI per capita of $10k.
Second, the education, although it is true that the average person usually studies around 12yrs does not mean that it is all good, that value represents ONLY the average of expected years of schooling but does not include a very important factor; QUALITY, something that unfortunately ceased to exist in Venezuela, you can’t compared someone who studied 12 years poorly with someone who studied with good teachers, better environment and more study materials.
Finally, health, to be honest I do believe that a Venezuelan lives an average of 74yrs but does not mean it is good, Venezuelans have learned to SURVIVE in this current situation, many use natural medicines because getting a drug in Venezuela is extremely difficult and expensive, we tend to eat more at home (which is healthier) because who would go to a restaurant with $7 in his/her pocket?!
Venezuela is in a very critical situation, do not believe only in what you watch in the news, in Venezuela much worse things happen (just like North Korea). While you are reading this, many people are dying in Venezuela; either from hunger, or because there are no medications or because he/she was killed.
