Thank you for the honesty lol. My pillow looks just like your old one, and its over 13 years old. I have tried so many pillows over the years to try to replace it and they have all been no go's. Totally going to try making one.
I've never worked with down feathers before. I'm sure it was quite a challenge. It turned out great and I'm sure better than the ones you buy from the store. Thanks for taking your time and sharing with us!
Your pillow is awesome! I thought I was the only picky stomach sleeper with a ratty old thin pillow. I’m going to try using the down from a couple of my old puffer jackets first. My other fault is I never throw any clothes away. Thank you so much for this video!
A better way to move feathers is to have a spray bottle of water. Dampen the feathers so they don't fly around and move them damp. Keep it damp till you sew it up. Damp feathers smell weird so you may want to put lavender in there or something, but i just did mine with water then let it dry.
I would have opened the feathers container then slid the pillow material over the open end of the feather container, (like you were putting a pillow case over the feather container,) then just poured the feathers into the pillow material.
That would absolutely work. I initially didn’t think I’d use all the feathers, so I thought I’d go a little at a time. But it ended up being the perfect amount!
This is great!.I've been trying to find square down accent pillow inserts but it's nearly impossible. I'm wondering if it would be possible to leave.a larger hole in the casing so the feathers could be 'poured' directly in. Maybe the feathers would fly everywhere! lol Thanks for this great video (and for showing that even expert sewers can make a mistake!). It's just what I needed,
I am SO glad this was helpful! For some reason I didn’t think to pour it in, but that probably would have worked 😂 I wasn’t sure how much of the feathers I would end up using, but if you are going to use them all, dump it in!
To make matters worse, I can’t sleep without my squishy pillow AND I’m a flight attendant so I take it everywhere I go. I’ve tried to find expensive pillows in stores and they are always too full so I slice them open and try to remove filling. It never works. Once I left my pillow in a hotel and had to make another flight back to rescue my sad little squishy. Another time I left it at my sister’s and had to pay to have it overnighted back so I could sleep. I guess tummy sleepers ARE slaves to our pillows. I’m going to make a couple of these based on your tutorials. THANK YOU! ♥️
Amazon! I got a 80/20 down feather mix. Good luck! Link is below: www.amazon.com/Bulk-Goose-Down-Filling-lb/dp/B01NCO7QSO/ref=sr_1_246?dchild=1&keywords=Dream+Solutions+USA&qid=1617555314&sr=8-246
Hello Elena 🙋🏻♀️ I have the polyester filled pillows or whatever is inside of them (I don't know exactly what it is but it isn't loose material, it's like wadding in a way) and I think I have a dust allergy. We have carpets in our house and without being gross, when I use the carpet cleaner, the water is filthy all the time no matter how strong the cleaner is and the carpet is high maintenance too 🥲 I'm going off at a tangent but I'm thinking that the carpets and the pillows are really agitating my allergies. I'm sure I have allergies as I often wake up in the morning with a really sore throat and my eyes hurt too. This doesn't happen every day but when it does, it makes me feel so sick and down. My Aunt has feather pillows and feather duvets in her house. I noticed that those feel really different to what I am used to at home. They're more comfortable, minus the rare occasion of a feather sticking out of the fabric with a sharp tip lol I was just looking at the price of down feather filling and 100% pure down feathers was something like £130 per kilo which is very expensive. The same company does have a feather and down mix like what you have used in your pillow and it is vastly cheaper than the pure down feathers mix. It makes sense as to why the brand that my Aunt got hers from charges so much for the pillows and duvets etc because the materials are expensive. They're better though and I got a sewing machine a while back which I haven't used yet as I need to learn how to use it 🤣 Perhaps this will be the first thing that I make with my machine lol Thanks for the video! I'll try it soon
@@ElenaMarieSewing I definitely will! I saw your recent maternity dress video too and I wanted to congratulate you with your pregnancy ❤ Do you plan to make your own clothes and other things for your baby? If you would like the idea, I highly recommend that you consider making something like a memory bear with say the first clothes that your baby wore as that can be so sentimental to have and as they grow up, they can have something unique to cuddle with etc. They could also pass it down to their children 🥰 I see so many teddy bears and blankets made from baby clothes, even with embroidered names and a birthday as well as the time they were born etc. Those look really cool 💜 My machine says it can do embroidery but I haven't learnt how to do that yet. My niece is 10 now and I'd love to use some of her baby clothes to make up a teddy bear for her or even something like a blanket. I wanted to do that for her 10th birthday but I was so busy and I didn't have a chance to sit down and figure out how to use my machine haha 🤣 But that's a project I have in mind along with your pillow method haha Best wishes to you ❤
Thank you so much! I am very excited 🙂 I do have a bunch of baby clothes patterns that I am dying to use. I definitely have some future projects in store. The teddy bear is such a great idea! I really love that as a cute keep-sake, especially with some embroidery 💕
The pillow was so old that there weren’t enough feathers anymore, and they were pretty beat up and not a good texture. If the feathers from an old pillow are still good you could totally use those and transfer to a new one!
I tried many years ago and got down feathers everywhere except in the pillowcase; I ended up throwing everything in the garbage. I thought I could find an easier way to transfer here in this how-to video but didn't find any new "tempting" solution, besides I like my pillows much more packed than what I see here.
Those who gave the best advice to put the bag inside your case missed something - your hole could hve been much bigger - way bigger to start with. Also don't avoid hand sewing. Pace yourself - hand sewing will in time become a best friend to better sewing. But I hear yah, I hate to machine stitch. Sooo boring up and down straight lines.
Update one year later: I love this thing and sleep with it every single night. 10/10 would recommend ☺️
This video is so specific to my needs and I'm so glad I found it hahaha
Haha I love it 😂

It’s a real struggle finding the perfect pillow! I’d love to see how yours turns out ☺️
I've never worked with down feathers before. I'm sure it was quite a challenge. It turned out great and I'm sure better than the ones you buy from the store. Thanks for taking your time and sharing with us!

LOL glad to know I am also not alone😂😅 What a wonderful idea! Love this!
lol my pillows look just like that 😂 great pillows tho
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
LMAO @6:22 when she "tests" the pillow on concrete.
😬😂 I mean if it works on concrete it’ll work on my mattress 😂😅
Lol… I have pillows that look like yours. I’m planning to remake them and your video was helpful.
Love it! Glad to know I’m not the only one 😅

I tried using pillow ticking to make mine, but the feathers came through. Any suggestions what I should have used.
Can you mix the down fill with the synthetic fill that already in a pillow? Or should you replace the entire filling?
why not put the entire opening of down bag inside the pillow case to empty.
That definitely would have been a good idea! Originally I wasn’t sure if I would use the whole thing. But next time I am definitely going to do that!
So what are you doing to make feathers become small smooth materials for pillow case ?
Do I need to wash the fabric for the pillow before sewing it?
Yes I usually do
I would have opened the feathers container then slid the pillow material over the open end of the feather container, (like you were putting a pillow case over the feather container,) then just poured the feathers into the pillow material.

Okay but why did I never think about this as an option?? Totally going to try this
LOL I had never thought to do this until recently. But I love how it turned out! I use that pillow every night
Also stomach sleepers unite!
Ok I’m a stomach sleeper as well. I went to an air b&b and I am sooo picky , I went and bought the pillows and mattress 😭😂
Perhaps wetting them and then transfer them while wet? Let dry, Fluff?
Great idea!

Thought I was just a weirdo. I’m also a stomach sleeper with impossible pillow needs. Didn’t know the two were related lol

@@ElenaMarieSewing hee hee I ordered my feathers from the link you listed, thank you so much 😘
@@ElenaMarieSewing have you figured out why tummy sleepers have nasty skinny pillows? Lol what’s the correlation?
I want to try this! Where did you get the down feathers?
Amazon! I got a 80/20 down feather mix. Good luck! Link is below:

Quick question and thank you so much for this help! Could you feel any quills at all?
What fabric do you use for your pillow?
A ticking fabric is great. Something more heavy duty. I got mine from Joann’s

like feather pillow making many post viedos
what about the cloth the fabric what is that please elena.
The fabric I used for the pillow is Twill. You can find it at Joanns. You want something thicker with a tighter grain to help keep the feathers in

Do you howe A Down Pillow Feather Or No ?
I purchased down feathers from Amazon. I have a link to the ones I bought in the video description
🎉
I loved down and down / feather pillows until I watched a video of how they are live plucked.
“I want that!”
Same
LOL

I don't think it has much (any) support
"I slept on this pillow once". WTF? Sounds like Amazon Ad! (with link included).lol
I’d be all in if Amazon wants to support the channel, fabric and feather can get pricey lol😂😅 not an ad! I use this pillow every night😊
Too long explanation
