@@ReefDudes Devin, what cords did you have to wire through the wall to get your pmup ato to pump to the tank upstairs? Did you have very much head height, and any horizontal span to the sump? Thank you SO MUCH for this video!
Very nice video Dev. Happy wife happy life are definitely words to live by. You definitely planned for everything. Csnt wait to see an update on how it is working

Although I'd definitely consider ReefDudes an advanced course, can say I don't understand alot of what your doing, but hopefully one day I will.
My setup is about the same with the two high/low optical sensors in both and I will use the two Neptune solenoid valve connected to T push to connect fitting that will open/close based on the optical sensors. Love the setup.. it’s absolutely awesome..
I watched the structural engineer video and I was happy with my aquarium choice which was the same as yours, then I watched the cable management video and was like ok ill get that but not available in Australia... no worries ill build one myself then watched this video and now im getting scared with all the projects I need to get done. Thanks for the great videos it looks like a slow build for me as I want my setup clean like yours from day one. I went from $$$$ to $$$$$$$$$ without even getting my tank 😝
Hey Dev, I noticed you used a pump to transfer the water from the fresh bin to the salt bin. You can take that pump off if you wish and just add a float valve and whenever you need to fill the salt bin, just fill it with the RODI unit. I don't think there is any real reason to have to pump the water over there.
I have a valve to fill from rodi directly as well! The pump is if I want to fill it faster I can have water coming from both the rodi and the ato bin! Really speeds it up if you want to mix up saltwater quick :)
Nope not begging, but I’m sure there’s some reefer out there who’s tank could really use this, (it would blow my 40g Breeder away) But it’s his to do what he wants.
Super easy. But I can do something on it. Basically calibrate them to be even. The. Set the same amount to “dose” on both units to do it at the same time
Trying to understand how you get the water from the bins up to the tank. You have both a PMUP and the versa on the RO line? So the PMUP pushes it up a bit and the versa pulls it the rest of the way? They are on the same RO line? Or am I misunderstanding?
Hi Devin, do I understand this right for your ato for the rodi supply tank: the optical sensors are connected to the fmm module, and the fmm module tells the solenoid valve when to open and close based on the optical sensors? If so, do you need an Apex unit to set this up, or can it be done as a stand alone? Thank you!
You are correct. if you dont have an apex tunze and a few others make ATO controllers.. if you already have an apex then adding on the sensors is an easy way to do it.
How long will it take to pull 10 gallons out of tank. ATO would have to turn off when starting to drain 1-2-5-10 gallons, stay off until 1-2-5-10 gallons pumped back in. Whats best to control these instructuons?
ATF intheHouse well could do it via a scene for high speed. Or low and slow. I think I may just go the low and slow and have it slowly doing it over the day then it’s dead silent and no need to heat the water
Are the magnets you used for dos pumps strong enough to help hold your shelf ? I would worry about putting a laundry basket on there with no support on that corner. Awesome update btw you definitely keep me motivated!
Devin - are you planning on keeping your new salt water at display tank temp ie heated? or figure that the volume exchanged will have minimal impact AND keeping the NSW at ambient temp will have no impact on salinity etc ?
I will likely do a very slow continuous water change then there should be 0 affect on parameters.. If id o a larger one then it would be more advantages to pre-heat it.. but low and slow saves the extra heater.
How large are those containers? Also dont you have to turn off the system when the saltwater container is empty and you have to add salt to mix new saltwater?. Rodi reservoir will remain full and continuously feed the tank rodi as top off.
I purchased the same tanks and want to do a similar set up. I guess the versa pumps are the way to go. I was going to get the Dos pumps. Setting up an auto water change do I have to worry about my ATO coming on when water is being pumped out??
Avelino Fernandez Jr. if you remove and add at the same time (and your pumps are properly calibrated) then the water level won’t change and it won’t kick off your ato
ReefDudes man your fast I just started watching your channel and your doing some great things. I figured that is what would happen since one pump is pulling out and the other is pulling in. Thank you.
Curious how you dealt with sealing the bin where you routed the cords. RO/DI lines are clear, just not sure of the best way to deal with the cords. Thanks
Can you explain what the new ATK pump is doing? I have been watching you videos and love them! I am finally getting a new 130.4 waterbox and I need to finally get around to ATO. I plan to pretty much have the same setup as you. The Apex ATK I am not sure what is is doing. I thought the Versa's are pulling from the reservoirs. Your old pump is pushing the RODI bin to the Salt Bin. Also I assume the Apex solenoid you have before the RO/DI is controlling the open/close on water feeding the RODI? Is that solenoid controlled with the FMM? Sorry about all these questions, but this takes a lot of understand each of the working parts. Thanks again!
Thanks James! so 1 PMUP is for the ATO to top off the tank. The second one is to fill the saltwater bin with RODI. If i want to speed things up i can fill Via the Pump and the RODI at the same time to fill it twice as quick! The versa is there for auto water change. There is one by the saltwater bin pushing saltwater up to the tank and there is one up by the tank sucking saltwater out and pushing down to the drain. both versa run at the same time for 2h a day. On the Mixing bins i have a high and low optical sensor in both bins. If the RODI one is low it will open the solenoid to the RODI unit so it refills the ATO bin. the optical sensor at the top turns off the rodi so it does not over fill. I also have float vales in both as backup! :) the FMM is just my input for the 4x optical sensors.
This has to be my favorite mixing station video! Great content! I replayed the section where you drilled the 3 holes in the back of the tanks, but didn’t get a clear answer as to what the holes were used for or how the tanks exchanged water. I assume the 2 pmups in RODI container, one pumps into the salt container and the other for the ato. So why do we have 2 float valves in the salt container and a 1/4” bulkhead fitting? Also, did you add a optical in the salt container as well? I will be doing a similar setup based on this video! Looking forward to the auto flushing rodi too!
Thanks! Two floats in salt is so I can fill it directly from rodi or from the ATO/rodi bin .. or both at the same time!! There is one optical in the bottom of the salt to let me know to refill it :). I’ll likely add a high level sensor to it at one point but I ran out of sensors!
hey DEvin, great video, I'm thinking of getting an apex later on my new setup, would you recommend the versa or dos for auto water changes? or dos since it's integrated to the apex?
if its some where far way you wont hear it you can use the dos (not the quietest for awc) if some where you hear it get the versa as its much quieter at high speed
