I have just started quilting at 56 and Melanie's tutorials have been extremely helpful. She was an amazing teacher. I made my very first quilt by watching her quilting series. I was saddened to learn she has passed. I am thankful that her family has kept her channel up. She gave me the confidence to continue quilting.
The documentary of her life was very moving and inspiring.
May she rest in peace. Prayers and Love to her family.

She was so beautiful, sweet and talented. RUclips lost an angel. I watched the documentary her husband made about her life, it brought me to tears . We should keep watching her tutorials to keep her alive in our hearts.

I love Melanie, her sweet, calm, gentle detailed way of teaching beginners is hard to find. I have learned so much from her & will keep on watching her videos. In honor of her I made my sewing room just like hers, she’s so right-it has good flow..I pray for her babies & beloved hubby. His movie made with Melanie was touching beyond words..I cried a bucket full! She was so strong and a maker to the end making that beautiful baby blanket. That must have been so hard for Robert to make this movie-I hope it helped his hurting heart. He seemed to be such a caring loving husband.

25 years ago I told my mom I wanted a quilt like the one she made when I was a teenager. We went and picked out the fabric and cut all the squares. I didn’t have a sewing machine, so she showed me how to hand sew them. I almost got them all done, but my hand got sore and put those squares away, until this year, my mom passed away. I got a sewing machine and reinforced the stitches and watched Melanie’s videos to help with the rest. I finished my full size quilt today. ❤️ I hope they get to meet each other up there.

I'm almost 59 & after 30 years of saying I'm going to quilt I finally am. Love all your tutorials I think they are just the best. What I'm loving about quilting is all the gadgets there are now, rotary cutters, rotating cutting mats, clips, etc. Plus after you use all the gadgets you get a beautiful quilt!

Hi. After watching your first video for beginner quilt, I decided to make one. To my surprise, the quilt I made for the very first time turned out beautifully then I expected. This videos is very helpful and I learned a lot during the process. Please keep more videos coming as I love sewing, quilting and cross stitching. I wish I can post picture of my first quilt after learning from you. 🙂 Thank you so much.

Thanks for the great tutorials! I am attempting to learn quilting. I have a couple of books and have watched some other RUclips quilting videos, they are good but your series are easily the best to comprehend and see how to really cut, piece, etc. I'm a dude, btw. my grandma and mother-in-law quilted, but both have passed. So, I'm attempting to learn to carry on a family tradition. I want to make my daughter a quilt to give her when she leaves for college this summer. :)

Good morning might I make a suggestion. If you are going to use steam use non flaking startch. It keeps the material more stable and less likely to "shift". This will help to keep the blocks square, less cutting for you. Also setting the seams helps set the threads and then you can finger press your seams and they will stay square. Now if you really feel as though you need to iron your squares you can use a tailor's iron. It is so tiny that it only irons the seams and not the surrounding material. Hopes this helps.

Melanie, I️ love your videos! I️ have a basic question: I’m working on a toss pillow cover with a quilt top. Except that it won’t have the batting and back. Basically, one side of the pillow will have the pieces sewn together like a quilt, and the back will be one coordinating fabric. My question is, if there’s no batting, how do I️ finish the edge of each square? Should I️ even finish them? Thank you for the help!

Hi Melanie, really think you should clean your cutting mat to stop the fluff coming off onto your fabric. Or maybe buy a new mat and leave the messy one for cutting batting on only and the new good one only with fabric. Batting always makes a mess on our cutting mats. I even thought about cutting batting with scissors not my blade. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.....

This might seem like a silly question, but I'm still a beginner. Do I need to use quilting thread for piecing? Or only for the actual quilting part? If not, could I use a lesser quality cotton thread? P.S.: The "Your First Quilt" series on your channel was the first time I ever saw how to make a quilt. And that was just three months ago. I've watched this this quilting tutorial series many many times. I'm on my THIRD quilt now!!! I never knew how much fun quilting could be, and I never thought I'd ever be able to make one. You showed me that I could, in fact, do it and that I could make really cool, modern quilts. Thank you for opening the door for me to explore my capabilities.
