- Microfreak Update Makes it EVEN BETTER! (Firmware 3.0.6)
Arturia just released a new firmware update for the Microfreak! In addition to fixing some bugs, they've added a new unison play mode, as well as THREE new oscillator types! This boosts the already amazing Microfreak to a whole new level, I highly recommend picking one up if you haven't yet. Enjoy the video!

I am so enjoying your journey and channel, the learning curve on new gear is always less daunting when free beat has already given us a trail to follow, grooves galore coming soon
I really appreciate that. Having all the regulars such as yourself around has made it a lot easier to not be afraid to jump in and post videos, even if they might contain mistakes, or the wrong terms, or whatever. So thank you!!!
@@FreeBeat thanks Free Beat i admire your channels content and all the Joy for music you share. It is contagious in a good way
Oscillator Sink does rock, great channel.
He really knows his synths
Oscillator Sink has been one of my go-to channels for really focusing in and absorbing information. He reminds me a lot of loopop!
Cool video, I'm amazed how much they are adding to this synth since it launched.
It's pretty ridiculous lol, I'd be willing to bet they aren't done yet either!
@@FreeBeat The one thing they did say on a live once in the summer was "no effects" they wanted it dry to save space for more oscillators, which makes sense as they have updated it twice since then.
Hi do you know how to update the micro freak?
www.arturia.com/products/hardware-synths/microfreak/resources Its right below the MF photo ,)
I kind of want one of these but don’t know how I’d feel about a touch keyboard.
I was skeptical before I got it, but with the physical dividers between the "keys" it actually plays pretty well.
@@FreeBeat oh ok, those are hard to see exist in video. I'm teaching myself keyboard and was worried it wouldn't have the tactile feel I want. Guitar drums and bass are my oldest instruments. Strongest on drums without question but loving those keys.
they are gonna release a macrofreak, a combo analog/digital multiple oscillators
That would be awesome!
Artuia microfreak is the biggest synthersizer .Well done !
That sawx oscillator would sound cool with some distortion in a high octave. But wow, the $200-$300 range of synths sure has improved over the last couple years
It really has, and IMO the freak is the king of them all haha. Thanks for watching!
cool! How does it work as a MIDI controller for VSTs? I’m looking for an expressive instrument and I’m evaluating the Microfreak or the ROLI Seaboard (which is only a controller of course).
Thanks!
The aftertouch is pretty decent for such an inexpensive device. I would not recommend the microfreak as a controller though, the key bed is great for experimenting but not for dialing in exact values. I've never owned a roli so I can't comment on those. I'd say the key step 37 is a pretty darn good option. Thanks for watching!
I am so pumped to update my microfreak this is going to take it to another level!!!
I cannot wait to hear what you do with it! I request a po-33 track using only the freak!
@@FreeBeat that would be a great because you can get so many different sounds from the Microfreak! I’d have a lot of fun making the sounds and creating the track!
@@GarHoover You'd absolutely kill that project, I hope it happens!
Am I going to loose all the presets within the update ? Sorry for the question but that’s my first time doing a firmware update on a synthesiser
You don't lose your presets :)
Just reverb would do for me
I agree about manufacturers comittment. It also benefits their own result, keeping the existing hardware up to date and attracting new buyers.
Exactly! Thanks for watching :)
I just bought one and one of the deciding factors was the update. I think it is also important for them to define their company image. Especially in contrast to some of their competitors.
the last new updates are very cool but there´s still missing a seq cronometer, the creators in the microfreak forum said that they will make one but i still waiting
Forgive my ignorance but I'm unfamiliar with what that would do haha. Care to explain?
@@FreeBeat sorry i meant a metronome, in the forum said that they will add it in the new actualizations to make it more easy to record sequences, it gets hard to record a seq while you playing
suposseddly like they say it will appear on the screen to guide while playing
We bought one late 2020 but it hasn't arrived yet. Already since order there has been an update. Can't wait.
You're going to be in for a real treat when it arrives, have fun!
Sweet additions. Hats off to Arturia 👌
Yeah they really delivered with this update!
Just listened to stuff on the Arturia site... pretty awesome. Tomorrow's update time!
Enjoy!
Sounds much better
Yeah these new oscillators are incredible!
Great demonstration! I wish i had my microfreak still but a week before this came out my matrix encoder knob decided to jam and never worked again. This was within 2 weeks of owning it, and since i was waiting on an audio interface to record it with, i hardly used it in that time. Its getting RMAd right now but now im concerned its going to break again.
Anyone have any durability issues with this thing? i feel like im going to have to use kid gloves to use it when it comes in now 😔
Oh no! I haven't had any problems, and I haven't really seen anybody else having them either. Here's hoping yours was just a defective model and that your new one is in good shape. I can't wait till you get to play with the update though, it's incredible!
Ive had mine for almost 3 years now, and ive had no problems with it. Although i do wish it had a more durable feel to it, if your not rough with it it should be fine.
Bass station II had good firmware support too.
Yeah Novation seems to be pretty good with all of their gear!
@@FreeBeat The only one I was a bit disappointed with is the monostation, it's a cool synth but I dont think people really understood it, so it wasn't shown as much love as the circuit i feel, but still it did get patch flip as a firmware update which is pretty cool, and since the MF came out they are CV buddies with the drumbrute.
is the vocoder in this version and able to be utilized?
Yes it is!
See my comment of a few days ago- as Arturia only update firmware over pc or Mac, my ‘Freak is becoming more and more obsolete. If they’ve addressed this issue of thin reedy sound, and the preset browser containing largely sfx, I’ll never know, sadly
Yeah I feel you on that. The process itself is very short, if you were able to somehow borrow a PC or Mac from someone for an hour you could be completely up to date. But I do Wonder if eventually we'll get an Android or iOS version of the midi control center software. Here's hoping!
How many patches can I install on the microfreak from arturias website?
I'm not exactly sure, but the microfreak can hold up to 384 now I believe, so probably a lot?
You get 320 factory presets with the MicroFreak. In addition there is 7 free packs with 32 patches each (total of 224) you can download from Arturia. www.arturia.com/products/hardware-synths/microfreak/sounds
And then you have the thousands of patches available here and there. Some payed and some free.
That said, I would really encourage you to explore patch creation yourself. You learn so much, it’s fun and you’ll end up with some interesting original sounds 😉
Just tested, awesome
Glad you liked it!
Update 4.0 is awsome!!!
It is, I have a video on that one too :)
Maybe it's a taste thing, but I find a lot of the sounds I can get out of the microfreak kinda cheap sounding. I like the more rudimentary sounds I can get out of my pal's microbrute
Everybody's got their own preferences haha. I personally love the sounds on the microfreak, although the brute is on my list as well.
Your check is in the mail. - Marcel Arturia
Hahaha I wish!
SUPERB SOUNDS pre effects...... or is there a mini effects unit lurking Within the lushly unfolding update Saga. 🌌🔈🔉🔊
Hahaha at this point it wouldn't even surprise me
Finger wobble isn't assigned
🤙
Actually have to say its good.
It's pretty great haha
great machine, weak build...
I actually have to disagree, I feel like it's spelled pretty solidly. What issues have you had? Thanks for watching!
