Sorry this video took so long. As you can probably guess, burnout had a little to do with that. And Valve waking up out of nowhere for the first actual time in 7 years. That too. ...all that said, did I cook or did I burn the soup?
Honestly, I don't play that often. Still a fan of TF2, but most of my interaction with it is via fanmade animations on RUclips. I do enjoy it when I do play, though. And now I might just try playing casual again instead of just public servers!
honestly, i'm extremely (and deeply) sorry for losing your beloved pet that stick with you for a very long time no seriously, losing something that has been with you for years will hurt a lot, i'm not even joking
I've turned to straight up pessimistic to cautiously pessimistic since the ban wave. Hope Valve stays on the treadmill now. Most game developers would kill for TF2's level of playerbase and community. It's so obvious, damn it, Valve.
To be honest is their fault for not playing anything else on their channel. I get you like that game but come on, does your Steam account have only one game?
@@PotentialGrimIt’s also a little the fault of RUclips and subscribers. YouRube tends to punish people for going outside their niche. Some (but not all) subscribers may complain if their favorite “TF2” RUclipsr does something else.
It's crazy to think we're coming up on 7 years since Jungle Inferno. 7 years before Jungle Inferno, TF2 was getting the Mannconomy update, the second scream fortress, and they STILL hadn't finished adding achievement unlocks. TF2 released in 2007, so in 3 years, we'll cross the line of tf2 being dead longer than alive. I mean, it doesn't even make sense. In 7 years, we've seen almost nothing in terms of weapon rebalance (outside of bugfixes and like, that one weird Mannpower update), are we really to think that in 7 years, no one at valve even sat down at the desk and decided "Actually, maybe the Pomson should just be a damage dealing weapon and not garbage with slight utility"? Valve, I'd reckon, has a policy towards TF2 more hostile than "hey, employees, you can work on it if you want, just don't spend too much time". I hold out more hope than I have since 2019 that *sometime* things will get back to working order. At least they finally started adding maps to the yearly pool again. Not that all of them feel properly playtested / QA'd but still. Bit of a ramble but, idk, i care about this game, I want to see some meaningful addition to it, not just a map with a seal or 5 more ICS maps.
i care about ricochet! #savericochet! valve needs to fix ricochet! ricochet for source 2! new ricochet maps! what will happen to richard ricochet? I NEED CLOSURE!!!!!
Y'know what I'd love as a refined sink? Silver versions of australiums They're not very flashy, they use a lot of refined to make, and most importantly they are UNTRADABLE UPON CRAFTING I cannot stress enough how important it would be to make a refined sink like that completely untradable.
You'd need to use thousands of refined metal to make it really worth it considering refined metal is about $3 for 100 of it. Considering refined metal started off at $3 for 3 metal it's kind of hard to make the sink deep enough to make an impact. Furthermore this would just incentivize the production of yet more metal by idle bots because then they could sell it for more money to players wanting to make those silver aussies. Finally I don't think Valve even really wants a metal sink anymore. It's obvious the economy can survive with metal being near worthless and because you can't go from trading metal to trading unusuals anymore it means anyone who wants to get into the trading game has to start off by buying keys instead, which brings in money for Valve.
I like the idea of this essay, as spoken and laid out in the description. A common mantra I heard was "Fix the game or kill it", in the sense that they shouldn't keep earning on it and keep the servers running but without proper upkeep Like you said yourself, to a lot of people it is too late. It is too late to "fix the game", and to reinvigorate the fanbase that has been exhausted trying to hold this game up the past few years. But, I think the most healthy thing is for both of these things to happen. Like when an older person reaches their later years, you let a load off of their shoulders, you give the game some proper updates, not necessarily with content but to make sure that people can play it to their hearts content for as long as they find it enjoyable. And then, when the time comes, the game will fade as all games do, but with a legacy most could only dream of.
Farewell Samwiz1. I was actually in one of your videos for a short point, it was TF2: Eggheads. And I TECHNICALLY wasn't featured on the video, but what I made was even if just for a very very brief moment. It was at 8:35. pyro had just killed you and you were complaining on how he wasn't dead. and to me it surprised me where someone had a picture I had made as their PFP. when I saw that I went absolutely insane and was so happy with myself that what I had made, someone had chose, and had gotten lucky enough to play with the legendary samwiz1. its inspired me to keep going, and even if you want to stop playing tf2 Ill be fine with it because ill be watching still. Thanks.
@@Samwiz1 That’s not what I mean… but have you heard of Project Moon? Ever heard of the Red Mist of Black Silence? Or Library of Ruina? Will check out Red Mars if I can find it
@@Samwiz1be warned project moon has been referenced soon more will come (hes recommending a game called libray of ruina [great game] however audio books are also fun
Something i wish we got more of were weapon crates, and more strange variants for weapons that don’t have one, or strangifiers for collaboration weapons like short circuit One day, i hope we could get stranges for the jumper weapons that track either air time or distance rocket jumping/sticky jumping. And i know this can be done because we have ACHIEVEMENTS that track distance traveled
Sorry i mistook collab with promotional, its specifically a community-made promotional weapon Valve worked around with strange variants by making the strangifier tool, to add strange counters to promotional items. But for whatever reason the short circuit never got one, despite being released alongside the widowmaker, which also a was community made promo weapon *and* got a strangifier for it
Despite the events from the past few years, TF2's legacy will still be a positive one. We "nitpick" some of TF2's issues because of how good the rest of the game is. It's unique, revolutionary, insane, comedic, and FUN!!! You can see how the market has changed due to the influence of TF2 and the games directly inspired by it. Being in the TF2 community as long as I was allowed me to see RUclipsrs rise, inspire, and sometimes leave. YOU ARE A GREAT EXAMPLE OF THIS! I saw your tf2 Jaws video in early 2020 and joined your discord server soon after. I participated in multiple community events, made friends, and left a legacy that affects the servers today (look at the strategy gamer category). I'm no longer on the server as I've attempted to focus on IRL issues, but I still interact with the friends I made on that server very often. Heck, I've been doing EU4 modding for an event Py is hosting. Something important that we can all take away from tf2 is that nothing great lasts forever. I've had my time and moved on to other games (for better and for worse). Thank you for entertaining us for the past 4 years, and good luck in your future endeavors.
Since you're going to be moving on from TF2 soon, I think just before you do, you should do a short and sweet final goodbye video. I think that'd be really nice. One other thing, since you are going to be moving on from TF2, could I, perhaps, suggest some fun games for you to try on the channel?
Life moves on, with or without the some of it's parts. We appriciate the real-life update at the end, congrats on graduating, Sam. Just gotta look straight forward.
Samwiz started and finished college (and maybe a couple years of high school as well) in the time it took Valve to do basic security updates. Man. I hope that severing the basically toxic relationship you have with tf2 will help with making content that's enjoyable for us AND you, Sam. Thank you for your service to the game, you magnificent bastard. You did more than could be expected of anyone.
It's like watching a dog live it's life, at first u don't know what to do, then memories start appearing, but when it grows old and you know what's gonna happen. That's the feeling we have.
Despite continuing to play throughout 90% of the bot hosting era, only finally giving up recently, anything short term valve does to "fix" TF2 is too late for me. I've spent almost my entire playtime on VSH community servers, but when those servers fully died earlier this year, I moved on from TF2.
Tf2 will NEVER die. Current PLAYER base consistently goes on a burn out for a month or a year (depending on a sevirity) and eventually come back, and while they were gone, someone else returned from burn out and replaced the one who left. Rinse and repeat.
TF2 is, without joke, the only game that I can go into any day and find a bunch of funny guys with whom I'll have a great time Sometimes it's relaxed, silly games where half the players are dancing, and sometimes it's intense matches with a well-oiled team mechanism Whenever I log in, I don’t wait longer than a minute and immediately jump into the game and surprisingly rarely see the same faces in the lobby
I'd say that's pretty apt. A sentiment I ran into a lot prior to the recent banwave was "we don't need content updates just fix the game and we'll be fine", but personally I think most of this was just cope. As evidence for this, most of the responses to it that I've seen have all had a "this is the bare minimum we shouldn't just be satisfied now" message. I think the second one not only reflects the community's true feelings, I think it reflects reality better as well. We were selling ourselves short to accept a future where valve continues to make profits off a game with such little effort put in from their end. The way I see it, even without the bot crisis Valve's inaction would still be slowly killing the game. I think we just needed the bogeyman out of the picture for a moment in order to truly appreciate the magnitude of Valve's other failings in regards to the game. The consequences of neglect, if mentioned at all, were always overshadowed by the bot spam. Now that we can actually foresee a future where the bots can never cause such trouble again, it is much easier to survey the landscape and spot the other rotting flesh wounds Valve has left untouched because they're not as visible.
I have played TF2 for a long ass time, the skin of my minecraft account is inspired by TF2 characters like Saxton Hale. Valves neglect for what in all rational thinking is an incredibly popular game with a strong community and limitless potential makes me angry. However I also understand Valve's position, as a Minecraft RUclipsr who makes complex redstone builds I often publish designs on my channel that are incredibly cool and popular, but they are too complex for the average minecraft player to understand. I get swamped daily with messages from people asking me how to build things, how to get my things to work, etc, and honestly it is exhausting. The transaction I have with my audience feels like it should be pretty straight forward, I make the thing, explain it in a video and try to teach some concepts in science, engineering and mathematics then apply that knowledge to minecraft redstone. Then I offer the thing I made as a free download for people to explore and enjoy. However the reality is that my viewers are always left wanting more, they want to build the thing, use the thing, all without investing the effort to understand how it works so inevitably they are left frustrated and disatisified when the thing doesn't work and they have no idea why and when they contact me to ask for help I am unwilling to guide hundreds of people through troubleshooting a thing they fundamentally don't understand. If my position is anything like Valve's, having created a thing that is incredibly popular with a massive community of people rallying behind. I can honestly understand them not wanting to engage with the community and fix the product. If making games is the passion of a developer then TF2 is just an old project for which they no longer feel passionate about, and so who are we to force them to care about it?
This game's state is like spamming E for Medic knowing damn well we don't have one. Maybe we may get a Medic, but until then, the 10k hour plus Soldiers thinking a Medic will pocket them because they have an unusual calls will ring out into the empty void that is the Valve office... and our hearts.
TF2 is how you do casual team shooters right, the freedom Overwatch lacks, the easy going that valerent lacks, but the option to go to those styles is there, there is a lot to do and I can’t help but love it, but some much come and go as they need so new life can take root in themself
i loved this game, i loved playing it with friends, i loved playing it with the randos taht were on the server, i loved hearing people talk about their day to day, do dumb jokes or just chat on the voicechat, i loved that this game ment a lot to me when i was a kid, now is all nostalgia and cant be arsed to even try to play it, i rather go play something else where i can have friends than this... it was a good run, and i am happy i was there. good luck sam, your videos were really good.
I, myself, did not know TF2 existed until half a year until I found you, and when I did, I fell in love with the community. Seeing one of my favorite creators hang up his hat, or in this case, Fez, told me that this game, despite having never played it myself tells me that TF2 is a gem that should be remembered. Thanks Sam for your help in me finding a good community to enjoy.
I appreciate this video. It put into words what I've been feeling for so long. For many years, I was the newbie at tf2 looking up at my veteran friends, but since that decade has past when I first installed the game, life has happened. I am now the person among all of my friend groups that has been playing tf2 the longest and I have seen so much. Admittedly not the most as many others, but I am just tired too. I miss the peak that I saw, and I remember hearing people complain about the game even back then. If only we all knew what'd happen. The only reason I open the game now is to play with my friends who are the newbs, teach them the ropes, help them learn, and hope they get to experience what I can't anymore. It's so melancholic. Playing with them sometimes lets me re experience the wonder and fun I had years ago, but it's just not the same and I'm just tired... I miss my childhood
1. Allow FTP players to use voice commands/chat 2. Bring back Chemistry sets and Halloween effects for weapons. 3. Fix the lag-spikes that came with the 64-bit update (and fix the lag with Virginia servers too). 4. New Killstreak sheens and Effects, New Aussie weapons, new Festive weapons.
The final comic's script is done. The writers got messaged by a group that wanted to make an unofficial end to it. The writers told them in a post that they actually had finished the script by working on it on and off over the years and all that has to be done is for the comic art to be drawn. We just have to wait a little longer to finally get the ending to it.
Sam, it’s unfortunate to see you leave the community, your time and effort has been much appreciated and we are honoured that you’ve spent as much time with us as you have, organising as many community events as you did despite being busy with college. Your content and style of humour was immaculate, and you managed to breathe so much life into a quite frankly decaying community, your work has brought joy to so many, and although we’re sad to see you go, we’ll support you on your future endeavours. Congrats on graduating college, and on behalf of the whole TF2 Community… Thank you for everything, and we can’t wait to see what you do in the future!
14:42 the spooky head bouncers would be one of my favorite cosmetics if it was a misc, i wanted so much to use it with the reel fly hat in pyro to have those silly eyes...
It sucks that I only started playing TF2 after Jungle Inferno. I have only experienced this purgatory state that the game is currently in. The concept of new weapons or balance changes sounds revolutionary to me.
I’m all seriousness this was a spectacular video man and while dour in subject it still was an enjoyable viewing experience. I wish only the best for ya moving forward and I should probably stop procrastinating my finals right about now.
One thing I never understood is the pip-boy. It's a cosmetic thst changes the pda hud... so why isn't it in the pda slot? It takes up a cosmetic slot that really should be open. It does the job a reskin usually does and there are already items that replace a default cosmetic as a weapon. The pip boy does the same as the cozy camper, just without any stats.
6:18 i think there is a point where complaining goes from genuine concern to just being a dick about it, Its eric smith and a contractor who works on the game, and that's it, and eric smith to my knowledge only approves of the community stuff, it took 1 guy 2 years to fix a game as held together by spaghetti like tf2 on their own, this isn't a large or even small dev team doing nothing, its 2 guys doing about as much as they can, the contractor to my knowledge wasn't even hired for tf2 but asked to do it, the bots were not 1 lone issue, they were the issue, people weren't dpomg ot for a fresh update to the game, Savetf2 and fixtf2's express purposes were to get rid of bots and show valve people love this game, this isn't "valve" doing this, this is most literally 1 guy who decided to work on tf2, when you treat individuals as corporations your doing really nothing but discrediting the one guy, also the 4chan scout cosplayer i find really funny cause the alternative is "this guy has been standing there for over a hour" and they just think they're weird, which rather than a conspiracy that they were told to avoid them, it kinda makes more sense the single guy outside the building who apparently only had a loosely related sign and seemingly wasn't saying anything, is probably going to be weird, and they're avoiding eye contact to not get their attention lmao
Disagree with the thesis entirely, i could definitely be content for the rest of tf2's lifespan with no major updates, id much rather have a phenomenal game that is still fun thousands of hours later than a bad game with constant updates that are NECESSARY to even entertain the idea of still playing. I like this gameplay a lot and its that simple
Sam I enjoy your content so much and I am so happy for you that you decided to move in a forward direction for your channels sake cannot wait to see what you do and I hope if you come back to TF2 you do it for the sake of enjoyment only :)
nop , TF2 SHALL LIVE FOREVER , TF2 IS INFINITELY REPLAYABLE WITH TONS OF FUN AND EXCITEMENT , We NEVER get bored from it , new games are garbage , some gamers play regularly , some gamers play once every week or once in 10 to 15 days !!! few of them leave it for some time but then come back to it !! it will NEVER get boring !! theres toooo much to do in casual , so many techniques to master , so many game play modes and weapons , new scenes and new stuff happens , maps and gameplay feel fresh and new even if you have played the same map 100s of times ! and tons of new modes in community servers too !
As much as I don't watch your videos anymore, I can't thank you enough, your community is the best place I've ever found and I wouldn't know what to do without it. (I did watch this video fully though)
Sam, you have been one of my biggest inspirations in the world of content creation for the better part of the last 5 years. So many times before then, I looked at an idea and waved it aside for one reason or another and it wasnt until I found your channel where I finally let the pressure i felt subside. Your attitude towards streaming and video creation has always felt so low key and free of pressure. The way you would just sit down with a dumb gimmick for 1 stream and say "yep thats food enough for a video" for no other reason than the fact that was fun is insanely inspirational to me. And no where is this demonstrated better than your variety content. To this day, your Bad Piggies videos are some of my favorite on the channel, not because they are particularly well made videos, but because you found a way to make a shitty mobile game I did not remotely care about insanely fun to watch. Just know that wherever you go next, i will be sure to follow
I feel like Valve got major burnout maintaining the spaghetti code mess that is TF2, and I guess is scared of hiring new talent to attempt it? Are they afraid more people getting access to TF2 will result in more leaks?
I will personally only give up on the fixtf2 movement when free to play's can speak. New players not being able to speak just alienate new players and prevent them from getting into this game.
Turbulence got me interested in animation and sfm opened the door to 3d animation for me. I miss those days of just messing around and making little skits, but then sfm started blue screening my computer. Blender just isn’t the same, it’s not as easy to just import and go. I lost a lot of passion for 3d animation because of that.
I haven't touched this game in 3 years. My reaction to the ban wave was "neat" and I went to do other things. I don't like saying it but I just don't care about tf2 anymore Edit: if you're looking for a new game to get addicted to, look at Darktide. It's good
That's pretty much the gist of what I'm saying here. Sucks to agree with someone on a matter like this, but I'm cynically glad I'm not alone in that feeling. :/
Literally the same happnede to me. I just remembered this game when I was doing some clean-up on my pc and gave it a go since I hadn't played since early 2022. Even playing a few matches bot-free I did not like this game anymore, but I was glad some people did.
I have never played tf2 but I love your videos and I could understand the burnout, I watch a lot of content creators for tf2 but due to the stigma of the game, I don't feel like it is worth my time to get into just the game die out by the time I get decent at it.
I don't live in the games industry bubble, I live in the I want to play whatever I want to play bubble. To me this isn't a live service game that needs constant updates. I just wanna play a good game that I like. I didn't grow up in the live service constant additions then game gets shut down age and I haven't accepted it as normal. Chess doesn't need updates to be a game I want to play when I feel like it and neither does TF2, simple as that
I started playing tf2 in 2023, and I've convinced my friends and girlfriend to pick it up too this year, you can take solace in knowing it is indeed safe for a next generation of players :)
Why would you pick up this game where the devs intentionally ignore it? You're picking up a corpse and trying to have fun with it and ignore that it's dead. For the longest time you could not even enjoy it casually as bots completely wrecked the game for years on end. Just go play something that actually cares about you. Go play co-op elden ring, go play co-op deep rock galactic.
@@MrDrManPerson my current laptop cant handle much, and my girlfriend and I love the charm that the characters have, but then again I play mostly old games, I'm still playing battlefield 2 from 2005 after all
@matstick199 Your laptop can handle Deep Rock Galactic of it can handle TF2. DRG is smaller and less intense. I play a lot of old games, too, using an emulator. Also huge fan of BF2. I love TF2, I really do but I can't respect something that does not respect me. Since you play older games like me I'm sure you understand the fatigue of modern gaming. TF2 has had that symptom for years and I see no reason to reward that behavior. Imagine falling in love with it again only to realize it has never changed like a bad ex ready to abuse your time once more. Valve is working on a hero shooter and as soon as that's out, you can expect TF2 to get ignored even harder.
@@MrDrManPerson i mean I don't really miss much new stuff in tf2, guess its because i didn't play it during its hayday due to being a console scrub, but tbh, tf2 is not the worst game I've ever played, I used to play a lot of war thunder and that is as bad as it gets for me, tf2 is fine compared to that shit show,
congrats on graduating as on everything else, I agree with your mentioned issues and a lot has to be fixed. I personally play a lot sometimes and then not for months. The banning of the bots was a reason for me to get back into it and I've been enjoying it outside of SOME matchmaking issues. I hope valve really goes back to fix (some of) your mentioned issues and making the game better in general
I've been with you since the silly british snipers sitting in the sewers. Since then I've graduated highschool, moved on to becoming a full adult, had 3 jobs, and am now old enough to drink. I can say it was one hell of a ride with you Sam. Maybe if you get back into the swing of things I can fall back in love with your content. That or you can always go back to being a bad piggies youtuber.
Easily fixable dated features: 1. They do have a better server browser too, the ''simplified list" option. If only it was the default setting. 2. All that valve needs to do for the create server button is to enable steam datagram relay in-game. It is possible to do so with -enablefakeip launch option but that requires you to go out your way to do so.
Looking forward to wherever else you go with your channel, Sam. I thoroughly enjoy all your content, not just the TF2 stuff. I'm glad that Valve is finally being responsible, but it honestly feels like too little, too late.
Even if I hadn't played as long as you did, Its completely understandable where you coming from It's hard to find fun in something if you've been doing the same dance for over a decade. Like man I've been getting into Payday 2 recently and it's been fun, tho I'm not planning on abandoning TF2. Craft the path ya want and enjoy the things that'll be given to you along the way
I'll be sticking with you and your channel. I watch videos where people are happy with what they make or play, and you and your friends are almost always having a good time. So please do play what you want to play, or make what you want to make, and have fun while doing it!
>mfw the best example of the entire gaming industry is one that roughly 70% humanity is region locked from playing god I love how well things are going, so healthy too!
@@TrafficPartyHatTest And that's just the tip of the ice berg lol, last time I checked in you've got a single guy on the balancing team destroying fun by making the player absurdly weak in a damn PvE game
Haven't watched the video but I did read the tldr. I agree but for the first time in a while, I can be happy. At this point I can sit and say we had a good run. This isn't laying down and completely accepting it, naturally I want more for this game, but I feel like I can at least let this game go with a smile now. I'm more at peace with it.
I know this feeling all too well. I joined TF2 in 2012, got into the mod scene and TF2 custom server admin scene shortly after. I spent 7 or so years as a community admin for a server before dipping out due to its corruption. Tried to get into making my own community servers, got three up, was betrayed by a person pretending to be a brother to me, slandered, defamed, and derided by people he gaslit into believing him. Shithead even tried attacking my marriage. Hopped from server to server at that point while picking up the pieces after the asshole backdoored my servers, stole my mods/mappers and broke my servers before running off with all of it to claim as his own creation elsewhere. Tried getting into voice acting as a way to fill the gap after all that, only to then be harassed by one of the cheaters caught in that recent vac wave who recorded me drunk and used it out of context to make me look like an asshole. This game for around 7 years or so gave me smiles, back from 2012-2019. After that, it went downhill, and FAST. Toxicity, betrayal, lies, slander and even more toxicity. This game used to bring me joy, to the point I put thousands into it, I even ended up running the official golden pan group on steam. But despite having an item like that, despite all of it, the current state of the game, compounded with all the hell I have been though has made this game a SLOG to want to play. Even now if I tell my story these stalking little shitholes will harass me, they did it a few months ago. So either I crawl under a rock, or quit entirely. This is the state of the game that I loved. That says nothing to the myriad of cheaters, and assholes in lobbies nowadays that has left me tired, traumatized, cynical and bitter. Like a family member watching their patriarch fall into Alzheimer's and turn from a once caring person into a toxicity spewing cesspit that sees family as targets. This ban wave is nice, but you are right, for us old heads, it is too little, too late. They should have gotten rid of them years ago, they should have taken reports seriously so voices like mine would not have been lost in the crashing waves of negligence of this company. I love TF2, I always have loved TF2, but now, I have to struggle to even play a 2fort lobby with friends before some toxic dickhead makes me wonder why I still play this game. I just want to play with my friends and do acting. I once wanted to bring new gamemodes to TF2 and bring back that old energy, but at this point I dont feel it's even worth it.
I've been in much the same boat, and that last section spoke to me very much. I used to be a (small) TF2ber, and while I did have fun- I got burned out on the game always feeling the same. I'm a Heavy main, and I felt like I was talking about all the same things every other Heavy main RUclipsr did, meanwhile nothing changed in the game. I wanted to do other things, but the algorithm and viewership just wasn't there. I was putting days of editing into content I didn't have a heart for. I started streaming for a bit, and it was fun- there was so much more engagement on that side. But it wasn't creative. It wasn't something I could put my heart into, not in the same way. I've always wanted to come back. Tried a few times. But I've never felt that real push to do so, especially with TF2. And despite all that, I still love the game. I can't bring myself to sell my old Heavy set- despite the fact that I've been having it rough for a while and could really use the money. I can't sell the memories. I love the game, and yet I can't bring myself to play it, either. I love the content I used to make, yet can't find the passion I used to have that pushed me to it.
This is a great summary of the problem this game has faced for years now I remember even before bots started taking over the problem was that the game just didn't get enough updates but after the bots and cheaters showed up that sentiment changed to most players being happy with whatever scraps of content valve threw at the game until now. I love this game and I really do wanna see it grow strong again and flourish like I know it can, I just don't think I can trust valve to do it especially with how they have launched and maintained CS2 as of late. It's genuinely depressing to watch how far valve has fallen from "God like game company" to "The money hungry owners of steam" just kinda hurts, but in the end we cant force them to do anything unless we stop supporting these practices and even then that doesn't guarantee anything sadly.
I never played much, but I learned about it in like 2021 through LazyPurple and Uncle Dane. They still stand as some of my favorite RUclipsrs, and Dane is undeniably the reason l mained engi when I did play. I’ve had a similar experience with COD recently, another piece of media I didn’t see in its prime; I started playing in 2020 and enjoyed 2019, Cold War, and Warzone. I still play, and do enjoy warzone, but the main games have suffered. I hold out hope for BO6, but much like TF2, I fear the good show isn’t reality. I look forward to your future videos, Sam, on a game that is cared for.
Dude, you're completely fine if I were in your shoes I would probably do the same thing neglect the game and the problems with it. And the issues with all of the TF2 and source maker and all that And you make all these valid points and all that so take a break from TF2, play other games, and have fun with others! Just have some fun with new stuff but the TF2 community will always welcome you back if you ever come back hopefully in the future, some changes could save it But overall it's understandable.
Thanks for making this video, it’s honest and gives me more hope for the game. Also am glad to hear that you’re planning on making more variety content. Godbless you Sam and this wonderful community :)
"GUYS WE NEED TO SPAM FIXTF2 AND SAVETF2 SO VALVE DOES SOMETHING!!!1!" *Valve finally does something* "OMG GUYS THE GAME'S GONNA DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" Oh my lord you people are insatiable and never happy with anything.
Nothing can last forever. All games at the end of the day will get old. There will be no more unique content to make and the game will become boring. But I think for devs and a game its important to provide a place you can return to, so even after a couple of years it will be as playable as in the past. Its important to make game stable and self-sustainable for this.
Sorry this video took so long. As you can probably guess, burnout had a little to do with that. And Valve waking up out of nowhere for the first actual time in 7 years. That too.

Most game developers would kill for TF2's level of playerbase and community. It's so obvious, damn it, Valve.
That’s what I’m sayin. Any other company in Valve’s shoes would have a gold mine. Why Valve doesn’t treat it as such confuses me to no end.

Y'know what I'd love as a refined sink?
Silver versions of australiums
They're not very flashy, they use a lot of refined to make, and most importantly they are UNTRADABLE UPON CRAFTING
I cannot stress enough how important it would be to make a refined sink like that completely untradable.
A common mantra I heard was "Fix the game or kill it", in the sense that they shouldn't keep earning on it and keep the servers running but without proper upkeep
Like you said yourself, to a lot of people it is too late.

CORRECT !!
TF2 is, without joke, the only game that I can go into any day and find a bunch of funny guys with whom I'll have a great time
Sometimes it's relaxed, silly games where half the players are dancing, and sometimes it's intense matches with a well-oiled team mechanism
Whenever I log in, I don’t wait longer than a minute and immediately jump into the game and surprisingly rarely see the same faces in the lobby
They have helped fix the bot issue but with all the neglect it's like putting a single bandaid on a blown off limb
You know it's bad when we don't even really want the heavy update anymore
Love how the video in the page is for the saxxy of "most pwnage", which is the one that got destroyed a week or two ago
This game's state is like spamming E for Medic knowing damn well we don't have one. Maybe we may get a Medic, but until then, the 10k hour plus Soldiers thinking a Medic will pocket them because they have an unusual calls will ring out into the empty void that is the Valve office... and our hearts.

i loved this game, i loved playing it with friends, i loved playing it with the randos taht were on the server, i loved hearing people talk about their day to day, do dumb jokes or just chat on the voicechat, i loved that this game ment a lot to me when i was a kid, now is all nostalgia and cant be arsed to even try to play it, i rather go play something else where i can have friends than this... it was a good run, and i am happy i was there. good luck sam, your videos were really good.

6:18 i think there is a point where complaining goes from genuine concern to just being a dick about it,
Its eric smith and a contractor who works on the game, and that's it, and eric smith to my knowledge only approves of the community stuff,
it took 1 guy 2 years to fix a game as held together by spaghetti like tf2 on their own,
this isn't a large or even small dev team doing nothing, its 2 guys doing about as much as they can, the contractor to my knowledge wasn't even hired for tf2 but asked to do it,
the bots were not 1 lone issue, they were the issue, people weren't dpomg ot for a fresh update to the game, Savetf2 and fixtf2's express purposes were to get rid of bots and show valve people love this game,
this isn't "valve" doing this, this is most literally 1 guy who decided to work on tf2, when you treat individuals as corporations your doing really nothing but discrediting the one guy,
also the 4chan scout cosplayer i find really funny cause the alternative is "this guy has been standing there for over a hour" and they just think they're weird,
which rather than a conspiracy that they were told to avoid them, it kinda makes more sense the single guy outside the building who apparently only had a loosely related sign and seemingly wasn't saying anything, is probably going to be weird, and they're avoiding eye contact to not get their attention lmao

I want to have hope for Tf2 because i want to and it is tiring to be hopeless and pessimistic
We’re getting the final comic.
Easily fixable dated features:
1. They do have a better server browser too, the ''simplified list" option. If only it was the default setting.
2. All that valve needs to do for the create server button is to enable steam datagram relay in-game. It is possible to do so with -enablefakeip launch option but that requires you to go out your way to do so.
could have left the last bit out, had nothing to do with the subject of the video
a little hyperbolic methinks
This video is the five stages of grief
Looking forward to wherever else you go with your channel, Sam. I thoroughly enjoy all your content, not just the TF2 stuff. I'm glad that Valve is finally being responsible, but it honestly feels like too little, too late.
7th tf2 comic coming. The west hasn't fallen yet.
Even if I hadn't played as long as you did, Its completely understandable where you coming from
It's hard to find fun in something if you've been doing the same dance for over a decade.
Like man I've been getting into Payday 2 recently and it's been fun, tho I'm not planning on abandoning TF2. Craft the path ya want and enjoy the things that'll be given to you along the way
7th comic has been confirmed. It is a good day
I'll be sticking with you and your channel. I watch videos where people are happy with what they make or play, and you and your friends are almost always having a good time. So please do play what you want to play, or make what you want to make, and have fun while doing it!
Helldivers as a positive example? Uhhhh...
>mfw the best example of the entire gaming industry is one that roughly 70% humanity is region locked from playing
god I love how well things are going, so healthy too!
@@TrafficPartyHatTest And that's just the tip of the ice berg lol, last time I checked in you've got a single guy on the balancing team destroying fun by making the player absurdly weak in a damn PvE game
FIFTY THOUSAND PRE-NERFED WEAPONS BECAUSE GAMES ARE AWESOME!!!!!
