Awesome lesson. Advanced for me. But, I love watching advanced lessons to keep me motivated to grind through the basics. The more I watch, the magic is revealed.
Been looking for diminished Gospel explained from someone harmonically literate- thank you so much for clear, concise explanation. FYI I teach harmony at Berklee.
I have not watched it anyway, but i know this is a boom....Two sound young pianists. So i got it downloaded immediately for proper understanding. Thanks to Warren for impacting young African musicians.
Great video! It's wonderful, Warren, that you also bring others onto your site to add some insights to this incredible process of learning gospel harmony. I really appreciate all that you do. While I'm not a church-goer, I do love the music and appreciate the harmonic possibilities of gospel to my own music. Keep up the great work! We are all grateful for your contribution.
Thanks Warren; 2 years ago when I began my journey and saw this video it made NO SENSE. Now after two years of playing and being an early intermediate, the concepts are very intuitive. Looking forward to learning the scales on the website when they come out.
Wonderful lesson Warren. Please make a tutorial about how/when to use 9th, 11th & 13th as target notes when improvising in a progression. More power to you & God bless you. 😇
Hi, I’m from Brazil and Christian musician and like your video. I always thank God for your life. God bless you and your business. I’m sorry for my inglish..rsrs
Awesome...delicious ..Yardman... I think the greatest secret to forming exquisite chords is knowing where the 3rd and 7th note is as intimated by Davin. Manipulate the 3rd to get major or minor. The 3rd and 7th are considered the shell of a chord/ rootless voicings. The 3rd and Dom7th form tritones. Holding 3rd and 7th in left hand you can't play any wrong chord in the right hand because of the ambiguous key center. Hold right hand chords from notes surrounding the 3rd and 7th and you can never go wrong. Hold diminished chord halfstep from dom7th chord to make flatted 9ths and use the diminished scale to build diminished movements and these are some of the secrets to understand.
Hi! One very easy explantation and way to apply the diminished chord as passing chords is first to see in what part of the mayor scale or minor scale we can play them. For example, If we play the C scale, we are gonna start the melody where the half notes are set in the scale, from the 7th note, which is B like this: B,C,D,F,E, then we can start playing the melody with the diminish chords like this: F°,Gb°,Ab°,B°,CM7,(melody) Ab,Gb, F, D, C, (bass) Or if is a relative minor (Am7) we can play the bass line like this: F°,Gb°,A°,B°,Am9 (CM7) F, Gb, Ab,B, A We can create different bass lines based in the notes of the diminished chords or dim7 chords going down or up. I hope this help. Greetings from Tijuana!
Hey Warren, why are you doing this to me??? You bring all my go-to youtube teachers together... I've recently learnt all of my diminished7 chords and is all because of this Guy Davin. Thank you so much for this.
I heard Mr. Barry Harris say a diminished chord belongs to 2 different whole tone scales. And he also says the diminished scale doesnt exist, but it’s just the result of combining diminished chords and their tonics if you were to make them dominants. Pretty neat theory. His whole application of theory to the very beginning of Genesis is neat too.
Ear playing is the best! I really appreciate that while you treated the diminished scale as a decorative chord sequence related to A7 (b9) leading to Dm, your scale run omitted the A natural: you played Ab down to G, F, E, D, C#, B, Bb. It still sounds great... but it’s technically unusual.
Amazing video guys. Enjoyed it and learned so much. It's definitely a lot to chew lol but it's something good especially for hungry musicians that strives for excellence and becoming value to God and people as a musician. Thanks guys!
to play in context g dimished chord because remeber to move from 5 to minor 1 in D minor brings us to A and the 7 of A is G which means G dimish chord. when he explained the g diminished chord and run to play with it i see the runs to play with that chord as g diminish and a diminish - those two sets to find ur diminish scale or g diminish and f diminish - those two sets to find the other diminish scale nice video
this lesson made no sense to me until..." Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho" entered my head for no apparent reason. Then I rewatched with the song in my head. The melody goes from A down to D of a d minor scale. A traditional chord progression runs A, A7, G7/B, A7/C#, D minor. At this point if we apply the principle that the 3rd and 7th of chord are the most important notes (didnt make sense to me the first time i watched it) , we can preserve the 3rd/7th of the 3 dominant seventh chords in the progression and substitute diminshed chords that preserve the most important notes. The melody, the initial A chord, and the final D minor chord remain unchanged but the progression chords all change by one half step. the A7 becomes a b-flat diminished the G7/B becomes a b diminshed the A7/c# becomes c# diminished which is the diminished progression that was originally over my head. or as the song would say.... the chords came tumblin down.
Azuka Joshua it’s not the chord that is different, it’s the scale. For example the “HSWS” diminished scale start on “C” would be: C, C#, D#, E, F#, G, A, Bb. The “WSHS” diminished scales starting on the same note would be: C, D, Eb, F, Gb, Ab, A, B. Do yuh see the difference?

Hey Warren that’s my homeboy Davin. I’m from Nassau Bahamas as well. I follow him but didn’t know.
Nice guys
nice example
very good
How did I miss this upload 😟
This is also very common in classical music, as well.
Oh yes, Beethoven was master of the Diminished Chord 😊
this lesson made no sense to me until..." Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho" entered my head for no apparent reason. Then I rewatched with the song in my head.

which is the diminished progression that was originally over my head. or as the song would say.... the chords came tumblin down.

This is cool
Good lesson, recommendation: stay in one key while explaining a concept.
sweet, guys
So these 4 diminished can be played in every keys?
This video tutorial is intimidating,😭😭😭😭.
I've a question plz,, what makes the half step whole steo diminished chord different from the whole step half step diminish chord in build up
Step👌
Azuka Joshua it’s not the chord that is different, it’s the scale.
For example the “HSWS” diminished scale start on “C” would be: C, C#, D#, E, F#, G, A, Bb.
The “WSHS” diminished scales starting on the same note would be: C, D, Eb, F, Gb, Ab, A, B.
Do yuh see the difference?
@@PianoLessonwithWarren yea thanks I've seen it now , which means those scale can go on the diminished chords
Hello Sir! how are you doing? thank you for helping me. I am wondering which scale can I use to play we've come this far by faith of Past Donnie.
Great
Hello.... please I want to know the difference between Pulse and Accent...Are they the same or they are different??
Pulse is synonymous with time or beat. Accent is when highlight (play louder) a particular beat, or a subdivision of a beat
@@PianoLessonwithWarren Thanks Sir
