As AIs only get better, more and more competitions like this will be cancelled as they can't determine which are AI or not. I miss the age where you could look at a picture and not immediately think "is this AI?"

they just have to say that they only take HANDDRAWN illustrations. Pretty hard to use AI there

They can record themselves making the art or take pictures of different steps. To make sure it was made by a human.
There is an app that doesn't allowed AI is Cara. You will find alot of original art from artist.

Wotc haven't used AI for card art though? They've used it for marketing materials which is bad enough but at the very least they're holding their card art to a high standard

I heard this news like a week or 2 ago, where people where submitting A.I art, instead of their own drawings. I just find it disgusting, that people would try to get away with "fake" art, while denying "Real" artists the chance to win.
I'm glad they came out saying something and doing something towards the matter. As an artist and someone who also submitted for the contest, letting it go would've been a blow for many creatives. So many great submissions were overlooked because of this, but hopefully they will have their time to shine now.
I am so glad they spoke up about this. I was really upset that some entries that were breaking the rules, AND replacing them with entries that DON'T break the rules.
Since this announcement was made, I discovered that both of Weihang Ye's Pikachus and DARA's Pikachu were also AI generated. They came up as 99.9% on HIVE's AI checker, and nobody has been talking about them. Amber Zeigler's Eevee was discovered to be AI a while ago, too.
I say good riddance. Pokémon took a massive W here for doing something about this AI shit.
I didn’t enter, but I WAS going to, and I spent over a month literally JUST coming up with ideas for card illustrations. Why do I bring that up? It shows that ACTUAL artists spend SO much love and time working on their submissions, so to have some AI generated shit that was made in 2 minutes be pumped out push those talented people out is terrible.
I sincerely hope that Pokémon puts some sort of protections in place for future contests, like requiring PSD files for digital submissions or something. I HATE AI generated images specifically because of stuff like this. Every day, thousands more images are being uploaded to art websites, pushing out the art made by real talented people who pour so much time, effort, and love into their art. I’m glad this decision was made.
You just need to do a video of all the pictures you like! We'd watch it!
And some people don't understand the utilisation problem of IA...

Imagine those participants who spent months brainstorming, conceptualising and drawing their perfect masterpiece artwork, only to be accused of using AI and thus disqualified!! What heart pain they would suffer! 💔
Definitely saw multiple pictures from Vigen K and knew immediately they were exploiting the submission guidelines.
I swear I remember seeing some of these pieces months ago, which had been called out as AI. Big W for the TCG, I hope this will not be a one time thing and others will follow suit

For Absol one of my favorites is by Takao Taromaru the absol looks like it could be part of a poster and nekotakokilin I love the background of the building behind the absol.
For the eevees Amber Zeigler, Sora and Takekazu - like I honestly didn't see all the eeveelutions in that one until you posted it.
for Feraligator, I really like Yumo's because it's go the whole evolution line and Giacomo Autili has such a nice nighttime vibe to it.
Koridon I like SAKANAGI and momogi 's their background work is amazing.
All the toxitricy needs cards in my opinion they all look soo cool but I like the little graffiti in shimada's and jinko's is pretty awesome too you can tell they're in Spikemuth.
There's a few pikachus I really like chalkrub's I feel like this is one of the more unusual artworks so the style stands out and just in general I think it's awesome and cute. I also really like Shiho So's and nmanma's.
For Bidoof's Shukuya Fumihide and Takekazu kind of feel like classic bidoofery to me. Also jako's done gone and put a bidoof on a swing which is adorable.
Flygon's I think Vanro's is awesome, and JUS 's is just very minimilisic and love that, and Mori Kakaka's flygon just looks like a nice traditional piece with colored pencil and maybe watercolors.
Melmetal I like kimu's syle and ルオードリー 's melmetal makes me think of stretch arm strong.
Charizad favorites are Amelia because naptimes are great, and I like the movement in Nathan Collins
And honestly all the EX cards are fun and look awesome.
Weird, when I saw this story pop up, I went to the official contest rules and ran a word search on them for anything specifying ai, artificial intelligence, etc. And nothing came up in the rules.
The only thing I could find, was the digital software used to create it had to of been declared/ stated. Maybe they left that bit out. Or maybe DQ'd on the grounds of more than 3 entries.
You’re correct that there’s no direct mention of AI in the rules (or these announcements) I suspect Pokemon may be operating on a “don’t ask don’t tell” policy until the legalities are sorted out more.
I wonder why that is honestly. I was thinking maybe AI wasn’t as big a year ago as it is now when the rules would have been posted, but it was still pretty big then.
My only real guesses are that either AI image generators weren’t as big or known in Japan at the time to where it was seen as something that needed to be addressed, or maybe they simply forgot and expected people to act on good faith and not use it.
Either way, I hope they have explicit rules against it in the future, and that they have SOME way of validating legitimate entries from AI slop.
@@ARDIZsq I doubt that AI art generators are unpopular in Japan, especially given some of the custom models out there, and how much AI art I've seen from Japanese accounts on Twitter. Not everyone is aware of them, but they're far from obscure.
@naturesepyon well then look at it this way it is an illustration competition and an illustration isn’t just an art work it is a DRAWING not a painting not a sculpture not a photograph and definitely not an ai generated image that takes absolutely no skill to obtain
So by submitting something that isn’t an illustration (or even art) then they haven’t even met the requirements of the competition
@@pokepress just because there’s Japanese accounts using them doesn’t mean they’re not unpopular honestly as far as I’m aware Japans stance on a lot of ology is that if a human can do it and it’s not dangerous or an inconvenience that a human can do it and the machines can stay away so given that knowledge I don’t see it being a very popular thing over there either way, it should be in this competition
Great Artworks! I wish they make the winner atleast Full Art or Atleast an Illustration Rare, Not Just a Stamp. The Stamp can stay, but make it full art pls! This is an annual event and we need it as Full Arts.

Yo, the best for me amoung SO MANY amazing illustrations was the felted Bidoof by Nakamura Yukako. I would love that card, and we all use the Doofster. Let's see a Bidoof!
This is awesome news! Glad to see them stepping up and doing something about it. If they didn't I would be seriously reconsidering buying any more of the tcg.
Only way to fix this is a video of you actually doing the artworks as their submission

id say this is a huge w for pokemon cause they corrected the problem and didnt ruin the contest for others. id say the only way to truly prove an artwork isnt ai is to ask the contestants to submit their working files like photoshop file or studio clip paint and look at their file to see if they actually did work. there should be many layers because i highly doubt someone paints on 1 layer
You do know those programs use AI to help assist the artist, right? Many artist also paint on one layer or merge them all to one.
yea at the end of their work. so instead they should leave it not merged. also pretty sure studio clip paint isnt implementing ai tools anymore, only photoshop. and if people were using that it would be against the rules anyways.

I tried, but my entries didn’t make the cut.
Those are 100% AI generated images. There's a ton of mistakes that doesn't match the skill displayed by the rest of the image. There's a ton of RUclipsrs that show them off. Like Eevee's tail in the one merges with the sky. Also, it was shown that they traced someones art to put in it. Which further shows a serious lack of skill. I'm glad now that I didn't enter this contest...
I only wish they came out and said "AI Generated Images are not allowed" instead of just not explaining.
There was also an announcement about using the wrong name as well on some of the arts and they're correcting it.
Also there's contests that allow AI but it's a separate category and has to be noted that it's AI generated and if it's discovered it's not declared it's AI they're disqualified.

This is actually the best thing that could have happened. Not only do more artists get to have an amazing bit of news given to them today announcing they made it, but Ai Picture Pumpers like this Vigo K get outed as cheaters and wannabes posers who have no artistic talent . And the company and community seem to be United in their distaste of him and his ilk. Bravo everyone.
When can I enter the illustration contest to get the promos?
I'm also not realy an art knowledgable person, but whenever I see excessive lighting work I get weird vibes, like is lensflare and whiteouts realy necessary on a artpiece, photography tends to have em more and even there there are software to remove em.

GOOD! This sheds a huge light on the fact that they’ll NEED to be cautious due to AI art!! This kinda proves a point- if AI can do it, why should we hire people?
I’m NOT in favor of AI art, sometimes it looks ok, but it’s clear as day when it’s AI compared to hand made. If you’re entering AI art into a contest, you deserve to get disqualified

I like AI as a tool to just have fun personally, but people have no shame to participate like this. It sucks for everyone who is giving their best with their artistic kills.

Well it did fool the people who chose the art
Keep in mind people that all the "bad" art didnt make the top 300. Many of the top 300 all look like similar styles except the ones that clearly used traditional methods. Not one drawing there was "hand made" like people like to champion and most art was used with digital technologies be it software or hardware that assist the artist. Digital artist are some of the worst people on the planet.
