I always thought that there was more chemistry between Kelly and Jennifer than between Brad. It helps that Brad becomes increasingly more irrelevant as the film progresses, and that Kelly and Jennifer perform with rainbow ribbons near the end.

As someone who was in ROTC, yes the gun Twirling is a thing, never seen the weird dance, but the marching, saber and Rifle guard, and gun twirling is definitely something I stood through and participated in
My rotc had the slap thing. They called it unarmed drill but it was mainly like dancing and competitive patty cake lol

The only reason that's acceptable in this is cuz they're not trying to shove it down our third so that it should be" acceptable and tolerated" and they're not making her out to be a Mary Sue. She's just a regular person that happens to be gay in this movie and they make it work instead of shoving it down everyone's throat like they do every other movie.

This movie was Always On I swear 😂😂 More than most Dcom's I remember. Going back over it now this will probably be a good throwback movie night drinking with friends to have some good laughs. I really don't know what the point was regarding any of the plot, but I am happy to know about this theory/Christies view point. It is rare Disney would have anything empowering to the LGBT community back then for sure😅

So what I've been told from other people whom have divorced parents, it seems being sent to another school because a parent married again and if they moved, is it considered common decision (especially when parents want all children in the same school). More common is that the parents decided without the kids input.

There were also a overuse of high school movies in the 80s as well, particularly John Hughes movies.
Let this movie be a lesson that society has to learn that military schools shouldn't be all about conformity, which the world already has much more than enough of anyways. If anything, military schools should be the ones learning a whole lot of lessons and be reformed about they way they work. While they of course, give students well needed discipline, it should happen while keeping their personalities and individuality intact, and never jeopardize anyone's psychological well-being of course.
As someone on a drill team, I will say: This movie is a nightmare. Down to the beret, the uniforms... Nearly all of it.

So the Drill team has an actual name it's called D&C which stands for Drill & Ceremony and yeah its basically just a show of how clean the platoon can be while marching and with the rifles I'm actually a graduate from the Alaska Military Youth Academy and we had D&C 3 times which we also won banners for so I thought that was really fun and there are rifles and dancing and just alot of fun stuff that goes into it so its not all marching 😂😂😂 16:07

It wasn’t really a military school. It was a school for military kids, and a lot of kids who went there. Their families and their parents were in the military.

I won't say that I had liked every teen high school movie but I did love some of them.
One surprising message should be that not all fashion loving girly-girls are mean, self-centered, catty, or other common girly-girl stereotypes. And not all 'Tomboys' are kind, cool, down to earth, or other tomboy stereotypes. Kelly (MAJOR girly-girl) is the main victim of bullying, and Gennifer (a TOTAL tomboy) is the 'mean girl' in this movie.
I feel like rainbow colors were just rainbow bright fun colors back then and not really super tied to gay pride stuff. I had a pretty good amount of rainbow printed things (clothes, jewelry, decor, etc) but I didn’t have gay pride ties, I just liked bright and fun colorful stuff.
Not saying there’s no lesbian undertone, just saying at that time rainbow didn’t always equal gay

Ever seen the movie TAPS starring Timothy Hutton and Tom Cruise. This movie is about the Military Academy Culture of the late 70s . Cadet Kelly is more like a bastardized version of female military experience much like Private Valentine. A sugary watered down version of a Psychological Operation funded by Disney in the early 2000s.
Ok so im glad i wasnt thr only ine that saw this. I was and am into romcoms wether their are straght or not. Well back then there wernt a lot of non-straight romcoms. Now there were movies like this thay gave that vibe. Anyways they were giving me hard core "im interested" in you vibes. I was always confused cause they neve got together and i know there are plenty of girl relationships like this so i thought i was thinking to much into it😊
