Al, incase you hadn't thought about it, when working around water it is always better to start your excavation at the down stream end of the project. As you progress up stream you will be working in the dry and will not have as much sloughing of the soil. When you get upstream to the end of the project the last few buckets will release the water into the ditch. You will be working in much less mud that way.
when you're just driving from place to place, bring the bucket close to the spade so it's not so front heavy, it will drive better.
I would have to agree that the boom needs bringing in so it’s not so far from the machine so it will stop the machine from rocking.
@@LumnahAcres ?
Forget using your Mimi, ask the tree contractor if they’ll take the big unit back to rip out the beaver dam before they haul that equipment away. That big unit will handle its self through soft soil areas
It was stated in a previous video that extremely difficult to get equipment to dams.
Why not set a few traps.... and then call someone who can bring some dynamite! Or wait till the ground freezes
@@tonygrimes13, Not if they have a few mats it won't be.
@@tonygrimes13 LOL
Buy about 10# of Tannerite and place it just above the water line on the downstream side and get that centerfire out.
Stuff needed. Two of every filter, some hydraulic fluid, powered greaser and a box of zerk fittings, a steel poker bar to keep the tracks clean. Work lights - front and back. Then a high and dry place to park it. An in cab tool box containing what you would need to perform maintenance. Now go and have fun.
LOL you left out a couple very important parts. Mechanical abilities or deep pockets!
@@dontfit6380 ,
It does not require a mechanical genius to operate a grease gun. However , it does require the ability to see and at least a bit of logic. Your comment brings to mind the time that my grandson was mowing my grass with my riding mower and ran out of gas. I told him where to get the can of gas and thought no more about it. A few minutes later , with the clear and obvious fuel tank only six inches from his right hand , I caught him attempting to put the gasoline into the air filter !
@@dontfit6380 We know Al has mechanical skills !
@@donaldmiller8629 HAHA you are correct it doesn’t take a mechanical genius to operate a grease gun provided said non-mechanical genius knows what a grease zerk is. I’m willing to bet 90% of the population has know idea. Well at lease you were there to teach your grandson where the gas goes that is definitely something every kid should learn.
@@dontfit6380 ,
I had thought that a 17 year old would be able tell the difference between an air filter housing and a fuel tank. I was wrong.
ONE THING YOU MIGHT HAVE BUT I DIDNT SEE IT AND THAT IS A GOOD FIRE EXTINGUISHER I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS
al cover all the exposed hoses with insulated tubing they will last 5 to 10 times longer cause they are not exposed to the sun the cost of doing this will be about the price of replacing one hydrolic hose all around win win
This right here!
Gina. I think you need to have two washers in your new house. One dedicated to the old, dirty, greasy, smelly clothes and the other for ‘regular’ laundry.
YOU MIGHT AS WELL GET THAT TRACK ON ORDER
Exactly, with everything on back order get it now. Better to have, and not need, than need and not have(and the time they break is in the most inopertune place and time).
@@jrleininger4110 ,
That is known as the Murphy's Laws. Murphy's law is that if it can break or go wrong , it will. Mrs. Murphy's law is that it will break or go wrong at the worse possible time !
@@donaldmiller8629 1st Murphy law is Don't mess with Mrs Murphy lol.
@@jrleininger4110 oh he will need it soon
That hydraulic hose on the thumb, it would be better to change it now and not latter, if it breaks it will make a real mess... hint...
I was thinking the same, those hoses will break eventually. Measure them up and get replacements in advance. Then replace them on your next servicing.
Insure your new excavator, install hidden startup security, and install a tracking device.
Yes that is an excellent idea since he can't be there all the time. Lots of equipment started getting taken in my area. That would be terrible if it happened to Al! I don't think he wants to haul it back and forth all the time.
Bob Smith ,
First , someone has to get far enough back into Lumnah Acres II to even find his equipment. Other than that , you have made some good suggestions. Especially the last two.
I had an earlier model Bobcat about that size. I would pull out the start relay and hide it in the side cover.
Hi, Al, Gina, and Olivia! This new piece of equipment is a game changer for the off grid property. Congratulations!!!
Use trees about twice as long as the tracks are wide, laying crosswise to direction of travel and build a road through the soft areas to the dam sites. That will keep you from planting the ex in the mud. They don’t grow very well!
See RUclips "The Worst Excavator Recovery Of My Career"
Or wait till the ground is frozen. That thing will sink quick with such narrow tracks
Agree with many of you, replace damaged hoses and get a new track coming!
Always fun to get new toys! What a big help this will be for your property.
Good purchase. You'll have that machine for many years to come. You'll be an expert operator in no time. Get Gina in there too. Always good to have two operators.
Check with the previous owner and see if he has the service records for your Bobcat.
You should add a watering hold with each food plot as well.
An excellent tool to make things better that will accelerate all the improvements in your future. Cannot wait to see you as smooth as Chris "Latsdig 18"
Al, this machine is going to be a great asset to your property. Great idea. 👍
Al, this is great. When you bought the property, one of the first thoughts I had was it would be really useful to have your own excavator on a piece of land that size. Glad to see you were able to get one!
Order a tread and replacement hoses for the worst looking ones. Get any needed minor parts. Maybe they will come in less than months, in time for the breakage. Oh, and get a 2 gal diesel can and strap it to the outside for when you do run out of fuel.
Spot on. Prevention is better than cure. Regards Stephen.
Perhaps wrapping those hoses 15:49 & 15:58 where they are showing some abrasion with some sort of silicon tape might help them last a bit longer until those new replacement hoses are acquired.
Awesome new toy!! Beavers are back oh boy!! Stay blessed all of you!!
Always nice to have equipment/toys
Makes life so much easier/fun
My son adds turnips to his food plot mix. The deer love the greens but the Bucks have learned to pry the turnips out of the ground with their antlers. Fun to sit and watch.💕💕💕
now that you have that you need to get a stone screener so that you can get useful soil out and also have rocks to improve your roads
What's the biggest rock that ex can handle? I see some monsters there.
Good morning everyone from Az..

Bobcats are very reliable machines we’ve had our e26 from new it’s 8 years old now with only 800 and something hours🙈 and it’s running perfectly and never had any problems
Congratulations on your New to you, BobCat!
Congrats on the Bobcat, it will help so much and you know how to work on machines like a true farmer has to.👍👏👏🥰
Lordie that is a difference in machines sizes. I forgot to wish you well on knew new property have fun with your new equipment it's always A-blast to learn stuff new
WOW WOW WOW! What a great machine! That will come in so handy for you ! Super clean and in great shape ,Congrats !!!
I'd replace those hydraulic hoses. My ex was a heavy equip operator - he was doing a back-fill around a house foundation when a hose blew - as a result he couldn't control the bucket and it jerked to one side almost smashing into the new foundation. If anyone had been near the machine when the hose blew, they could have been seriously injured or killed.
Once a hydraulic hose busts you loose the ability to lift the bucket or the arm. Some machines controls are inverted to others so accidents can happen easily
I agree preventive maintenance is essential..
Remove them? What do you replace them with?
@@TheWestlandgirl - I said nothing about removing them - I said they should be replaced, and that would be with the same type of hose.
Al you are awesome! Only the best for you! You demand the best of everything! I wish I had your money, and love cats!
Hard to tell from the camera angle, but it appears you have sufficient front slope that you could use your roots and stone debris to create ditch checks...slows water velocity, minimizes erosion and reduces silt load in your ditches, ponds and streams. Message me and I can give you some more pointers about such....highway construction engineer for 29 years...here to return favor for all I have watched you do that has guided our homestead start.
That excavator will be perfect for hanging and processing your first moose and other animals! AWESOME!!! Looking forward to seeing your food plots and hunting videos!!!!
we bought an excavator for our homestaed 4 years ago and I never want miss that machine, saved a lot of money and did a lot of work at our Farm
I looked threw your comments, and you are getting a lot of good advice, take it from me who has been there before, change those hoses and check the fittings.
Just a word of advice. When I was in the army, I was around a lot of diesel equipment. Oil is usually changed when the chemistry goes bad as opposed to a schedule as with a car. Plus I would replace that remaining track and all the hydrolic hoses. if a hose blows while you are using it the controls will be about as useful as if the engine werent running. the hardest part about that is that hydrolic systems are always sealed you will need to bleed all the air out of the system before anything will work properly. Not a difficult task just very time consuming.
Teach the girls how to operate all of the equipment.
Thats awesome congrats on the new toy. That will come in very handy for you guys
Bigger property bigger toys, what a smart and useful purchase way to go! Have a great day !
definitely a blessing to have on the homestead!
When we leave our cabin we put dryer bounty sheets in the cab and motor area to keep mice out. Nice buy you will love it How exciting. Still amazing how far you have came in the five years of watching you. Vary cool Al. Thanks for sharing and making all your videos.
It looks like the Bobcat will be useful for many jobs!
That is great that you got yourselves a small excavator for the off grid property. That will really come in handy.
I don’t know if you’ve ever watched ‘Kend Heyati’ channel but they have the most beautiful pasture for there sheep and cattle. Every time I watch them, I think how gorgeous your new place would look with fields like this.

I would deep clean that seat and the rest of the interior and install a blue gel seat cushion ( advertised on tv egg does not break when sat on) and the old sheepskin seat covers. I like it comfy cozy too. And your back will thank you later. Oh, and window tint.
So happy you finally got your excavator. This will really take the wear and tear off you. It will be nice to be able to move boulders and logs. You definitely are going to have a fun summer. Y'all have a Blessed day.
I am thankful you are looking for a saw mill. I am sorry that the Mills are now hard to find. I have seen a lot of homesteads starting to buy them years ago and was impressed with their work.. So Many people are turning to the life you live, and learning from you. thank you for sharing!
With any equipment, it's all about the dealer. Service and parts are the most important factor in deciding between major brands. We went Deere since the local dealer is great.
Good move on buying an excavator, I would order the track and hoses that are damaged. With covid you may be waiting weeks for parts.
Four lessons on how to operate the excavator, I suggest you watch Chris, who has a Blog called, Let's Dig 18. He's super capable, owns his own business. He's currently working on pond building and maintenance.
Super, the crane is perfect for you and the property. It is the jewel of your machines. You and your family are really living the dream. You all know what you want. Follow your hearts. Delete and ignore all the negative comments from very jealous people. This is going to be a awesome living space on this planet. Keep going, in case of misfortune, setback or bad luck don't give up. Keep it safe when you work, and watch out for dangerous animals.
Do a complete fluid and filter replacement and grease everything now.
Base on what I've seen, the mini will do just about everything you need to do. It might take a little longer than the big machines but it will get it done. It should handle most of the trees I've seen on your place.
One other thing I meant to suggest. Look into a quick release for your buckets and other attachments. Get one that will pivot if possible.
I need a new keyboard. My r key only works half the time.
Rickster1234 ~ The comment about your "r" key made me laugh. The keyboard on this laptop is really wonky and I spend as much time editing as I do writing whatever I post.
"My r key only works half the time."
Just use the "z" ... nobody's gonna know the difference ~8^) If the "z" goes out of commission ... you're on your own!
@@straubdavid9 ~ LOL!
You'll have to check out some Andrew Camarata videos. Dude is an artist with a mini-ex. Everything from clearing trees, ditch work, septic systems, you name it.

YES, IT WAS CADDY SHACK AND IT WAS HILARIOUS. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU DO ON THE NEW PROPERTY.
Al, Great looking machine. You may consider getting a wider bucket. The wider bucket will allow you to pick up more material and great for digging ditches.
Everytime I see Camo I am reminded of how you did get the best buck this season from Blue Cactus. He is absolutely stunning. I followed Derek Camo and Daisy here, and I'm loving your family and channel. Have a great day
That is impressive. You should get a brush cutting attachment to go on the bobcat.
Al you're going to need a bigger trailer that's for sure.. unless you just plan on leaving it at the new place.
Oh my ,you will be digging everything now!!!!! I love that thing!
So proud of you guys. I pray God’s blessings to you and your family. I pray for prosperity and protection for your farm. I pray for you each time I watch your videos.
You should be able to keep those Beavers Dams under control with your Bobcat Excavator Al.
Assuming it can make it to the area. The nice thing about a machine like that, it can make it's own roads!
Stated in a previous video that extremely difficult to get equipment to dams.
@@tonygrimes13 which video?
When those beavers learn how to use that excavator your gonna have problems.
XD!
Lol. 😆
Vision popped into my head of Al going up to the property one day and wondering why the excavator was not where he last left it and why the seat was moved up.
Thanks for the humour
Al now you have something to get rid of those pesky beaver dams. Good purchase this will be very helpful in your new homestead.
What great purchase! Make sure the girls learn how to use it too. It will be so helpful. Our kids learned to use our John Deere at 11 years old.
I'd be building one of those mini hydro electric plants along the stream.
Project #1: Get a large volume of gravel and build a high quality road to the beaver dam. Introduce your excavator to that dam and repeat often. The beavers will just give up and move on. Build or buy mats for your excavator so you don’t end up on Letsdig18 channel. Good luck
Was stated in a previous video that extremely difficult to get equipment to dams.
AL great choice in equipment. Very adaptable for different uses. You did your homework and it shows. So many thing it can do. Rock and thumbs are a match for one another. Thanks for the video
When you get some seat time in and get really good at it you can walk it in and really open up those beaver dams. It’s going to be a great addition to the farm.
The first thing you should do with mini escavator tear beaver dams out now
Was stated in a previous video that extremely difficult to get equipment to dams.
@@tonygrimes13 ,
I've wondered why that is ? I see Al drive his truck up pretty close to the beaver dams. At least fairly close to what appears to be the main dam. Al does have a lot of debris in all of his waterways. He needs to have a way to remove that debris. One , for better water flow. Two , for appearance. His waterways will look much better without all of that debris in them.
That 500 acres is going to keep Al busy for the next fifty years. lol
Al, check out a product from Liqui-Moly called Marder Spray.... It repels rodents.... It really does work well. You already it on your rubber pipes in that engine.
I am so happy for you Al… I have been watching your channel for over 4 years and I love it. I know that you and Gina love the homesteading life! Olivia too! Y’all are living your best lives. Carol from North Texas!
For food plots have a look growing deer they just published a bunch of videos explaining there system which I think is the best out there!
See u already using the grapply to pull stump 👍👍
For Spring, look into Cereal grains like Winter Rye and Oats. Deer enjoy the young grass. Brassica mixes , red clover and alfalfa are also great choices. For fall, turnips, sugar beets and Winter Rye is great.
Drofumi Dragon ~ (Great username, by the way!) I was thinking, since goats like weeds and brush more than grass, what would be some highly nutritious things he could sow in with pasture grass where he plans to put the goats?
@@TXNLaurenMcN I would say a Horse Pasture seed mix would be the best starting point. Just make sure if it has fesue, that it is "endophyte free" fescue.(Endophytes can cause pregnancy issues) They sell them online but many farm stores should sell them.
One of the handiest pieces of equipment there is! Congrats!
I'm so glad you guys got an excavator! Some of my favorite videos are your building the rock wall.
Wear on the mechanical parts ,ie, tracks , running gear pins and bushes , engine and hydraulics is what to look for in any construction equipment
Cool, I did suggest it when you were admiring the Bulldozer 'Gina got for your Birthday' but my comment was just as much in jest as yours.
Very happy for you! So glad you are taking us along!
I would strongly recommend that you replace any hoses that have wear on them. Replacing them at your own schedule is much better than having one break in the middle of a project and cause loss of time and damage. Have fun with the new toy.
Hey, just wondering if you all have considered wind energy on the off grid property? Big open space and i'm sure the new wind harnessing tech would do the property some good!
As for your fuel gauge: You have to figure out of the fault is in the fuel gauge sender unit or in the gauge itself. The gauge will probably read Full when grounded and empty when open (Infinity). You can watch it's movement when you ground the gauge and release ... checking for hangups. If the gauge operates normally, you have to access the fuel sender and run it through its range of motion with the gauge meter connected. If it is mechanically binding, you may be able to correct that ... if not, you will need to replace it.
Amazing Al !!! I can't believe how far you've come since I started watching. I knew I should have got an autograph back then LOL
When you took off, you were front heavy. Pull your bucket and arm in as close as you can when moving around and distribute the weight closer to the center of machine! NO CRACKS ALLOWED ON ANY HOSES ANYWHERE!!!!! Fix or replace before the hose blows during a job, and you lose control of that part of the equipment while you are working!! Have fun!
I guess my daughter in law was smart. She ordered their portable mill at the right time and are expecting delivery the middle of july...keep in mine we're in new brunswick canada. Today's thumbnail seems to have brought some heavy equipment channels to my feed. The channel "Heavy Metal Learning" is one that may have helpful info for you
I like your Bobcat. That will come in handy if you decide to make an earth-sheltered greenhouse like the fellow in Nebraska. See RUclips "Growing oranges in the Snow". No oil, gas, or firewood needed. A small amount of electricity is needed to circulate air through the earth tubes.
I'd be finding a way to get the mini up to those beaver dams. Having the side slew on the boom makes some jobs so much easier. Great purchase Al.
I really wish you would do at least 4 videos a week. I’m finding myself watching other homestead videos which is sad because you are my favorite channel by far
