  • Thanks to Kyrre, who very kindly provided a translation for this video! This is a very old interview in Norwegian.
    The display date in the beginning "1999" might not necessarily reflect the date of the interview . This is from 1992 after the release of Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism.

    That is a great Classic Album Diabolical Fullmoon A lot of great Gems on that one My favorite has always been Call of the Wintermoon and Blacker than Darkness. The whole Album is Great It's crazy listening to that one then listening to Pure Holocaust and Battles in the North. Totally different Production Is Totally Underground. SatYricoN first Album Dark Medeaval Times had the Same Sound Production is about the Same. Just two different Record Labels. MoonFog and Immortals label Osemose It's crazy how Immortal Went with their Line up. In a way it just isn't the Same Without Abbath. Demonaz Is the only original Member. I give him Credit He pulled it off He did what No one ever thought he could play Guitar again because he had that disease where he was told he couldn't Play anymore and he Conquered it and he Vocals Gotta Respect that True Dedication for Immortal and their Still going Strong. Blizzard Beasts is a Strong Album. They almost Split up Over Problems. But they Stayed Strong and held it Down Made the Album Not too Many Bands Can do that Anyway Awesome Video even though it's Like Old .Old Funeral Immortal and Burzum got their Start Death Metal Project Awesome Stuff

    When I see Kolgrim in the old interviews I always get a kind of giggle starting. He was raised in a Christian family and understood what it meant and even embraced the ethics, and then he had to defend himself against the idiots that claimed to be them - even though they judged the band before they even understood what they were doing. The opposite of Christianity.
    Generally in interviews in Norway and Sweden at the time, he's the quiet one because - as he's put it - "I was about to explode".

    The translation seemed a little questionable to me. But the black metal scene was about not being like the death metal scene in that the music and the imagery was far more profound. In the case of Immortal, they were just doing what they enjoyed which includes all of the symbols, the fantasy lyrics, the corpse paint and so forth. It was not to my knowledge as serious as the other bands true, but that doesn't mean the music is any less serious.

    a very interesting interview. after watching it, I can't say I have a lot of respect for these guys. they are basically saying that they don't believe in the whole ideology of black metal, and are wearing the corpse paint "because its popular". they distance themselves from the other black metal bands (Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone & Emperor) who actually went out on a limb and took risks at being hated for what they believed in!!!! very disappointing to be honest. it actually backs up what I was feeling back in 92-94 when I read their interviews. they just didn't seem like part of the scene. Immortal released 2 great albums in "Diabolical" and "Pure Holocaust", but they aren't TRUE Norwegian Black Metal. MAYHEM/DARKTHRONE/BURZUM FOR LIFE.

    It's different. Immortal don't believe in the TRADITIONAL black metal ideologies. Their ideologies come from nature and so forth. And how it should be kept sacred that's the kind of ideology they are using. The symbols are there because it helps give a visual representation to go along with the music. It's like that.

  • @Kataxu
    @Kataxu 15 лет назад +1

    if someone wants to play music they love, they aren't gonna play any other genres, they are gonna play what they like. Honestly, it's a waste of energy to hate bands that write about nature, fantasy, and dark stories. Honestly, ideology does not drive the kind of black metal you are talking about - image does.

  • @NecroLust1349
    @NecroLust1349 13 лет назад

    As much as I love Immortal, I do not believe in an image of sort. I would assume most of these bands would be inspired by the darkness of Norway, which can lead to some symbols. Immortal is not that way in this interview, but I wouldn't believe people such as Nattefrost or Infernus are that way.
    All in all, I agree some of them seem to blow smoke up their fan's asses, but not all of them.
    |m/

  • @metalklown
    @metalklown 14 лет назад +1

    @Northernmight You know nothing. Immortal are the only original Norwegian Black metal band that were level headed and down too earth. The other crazy fucked in the head bands ( Mayhem, DarkThrone, ect) still deserve our respect, but i am under no illusions that they were megalomaniacs with egos too big for there heads. Immortal at least kept it real. Took the music seriously, took the scene and themselves less seriously. Thats what metal is about.

  • @VernalFilm
    @VernalFilm 3 года назад +2

    The interviewer tries to squeeze Immortal into a corner by asking them out on the satanic matters that were much spoken about during that time. She didnt know Immortal wasnt into satanic stuff until they tell so during the interview and she desperately tries to make them share their thoughts on that sort of stuff. She just failed....what an annoying tunnel visioned interviewer. Also tries demonize(no pun) the face paint they use during concerts, since it potentially could offend some (butt hurt) people. Would be interesting to know her reaction when SOND was released with great commercial success.

  • @fleshborn13
    @fleshborn13 14 лет назад

    If they are in it for the money/fame then why did then disband at the high of their career and why arent they supporting their new album. I think Immortal are just having fun as they always have. They are not by any means symphonic in the sense of style nor do they have to be dark funeral. They have been around just as long and deserve just as much if not even more respect than many of the bm bands. Black Metal purists are no better then crusties or the scene kids. The music is whats important!

  • @RebornInBlasphemy
    @RebornInBlasphemy 15 лет назад

    .Kolgrim. играл немного раньше чем .Armagedda. а на .Pure Holocaust. '93 .играл во время записи альбома вообще .Abbath. а .Erik. только во время концертных туров, а потом .Abbath. в скорости и вовсе уволил .Erik'a. из группы, до альбома .Blizzard Beasts. '97 года, у них вообще барабанщика небыло..потом появился .Horgh.
    Все ударные партии на альбоме .Battles in the North. '95 исполнил сам .Abbath.
    Hellhammer 'a вообще попросили снятся только в 2 клипах и этого альбома.

    Those of you who complain that they come across as too commercial in this clip should keep in mind that if the Scandinavian black metal bands had SOLELY been non-commercial enterprises, made for the 'true cult' members of a small group of people, NONE of them would have sung (growled) in English, but in their native language. The main reason for a Scandinavian group of any kind to sing in English, is to reach a larger audience and sell more albums.

  • @Kerry_kit_slayer
    @Kerry_kit_slayer 7 лет назад +2

    Love these guys and their music, but they kind of fell apart in this interview. The entire time they came across as oblivious in regards to the symbolism they used and imagery they portrayed when asked about it. Can't help but think the corpse paint and imagery really did start as a gimmick to ride a wave that was taking Scandinavia by storm around that time. But at the end of the day, their music is some of my favorite from that wave so it's all worth it.
