- Thanks to Kyrre, who very kindly provided a translation for this video! This is a very old interview in Norwegian.
The display date in the beginning "1999" might not necessarily reflect the date of the interview . This is from 1992 after the release of Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism. Видеоклипы
Immortal One of the Greatest Black Metal Band of all time way back in the day early 90s Awesome
I liked the interview. And I will always support Immortal no matter what their music stands for. Demonaz is so cute here! I wish the picture quality was better. Thanks for posting!
I love how they're so straight forward and honest about their music. Immortal fucking rules!
Great band, their honesty is refreshing.
I've always loved how they never took themselves seriously and didn't buy the fake satanist bandwagon of a lot of bands in those times. Great guys making great music.
Thanks a lot! I saw this interview almost 15 years ago and never knew what the guys were saying.
Det var vældig bra! Sånn en vakker måte å snakke på!
Fantastisk interview. Jeg er meget glad for det.
where's this supposed translation?
oh so young so cute and so serious in this interview, not like in other fun, joking and drinking! and without sunglasses!!
anyway i love them
P.S:thanks for the video and especially the translation
@Billie ShakespeareI do not remember. Maybe there was a translation, but somehow I understood what they were talking about. I don't speak Norwegian. Now it's a mystery to me
That's great!!! English subs!!! Thanks.
by the way Demonaz speaks,he really lokks like an inteligent person even when he was teenager.really good video.
Hail Immortal!
great interwiev
freshly born kolgrim fan here !
That is a great Classic Album Diabolical Fullmoon A lot of great Gems on that one My favorite has always been Call of the Wintermoon and Blacker than Darkness. The whole Album is Great It's crazy listening to that one then listening to Pure Holocaust and Battles in the North. Totally different Production Is Totally Underground. SatYricoN first Album Dark Medeaval Times had the Same Sound Production is about the Same. Just two different Record Labels. MoonFog and Immortals label Osemose It's crazy how Immortal Went with their Line up. In a way it just isn't the Same Without Abbath. Demonaz Is the only original Member. I give him Credit He pulled it off He did what No one ever thought he could play Guitar again because he had that disease where he was told he couldn't Play anymore and he Conquered it and he Vocals Gotta Respect that True Dedication for Immortal and their Still going Strong. Blizzard Beasts is a Strong Album. They almost Split up Over Problems. But they Stayed Strong and held it Down Made the Album Not too Many Bands Can do that Anyway Awesome Video even though it's Like Old .Old Funeral Immortal and Burzum got their Start Death Metal Project Awesome Stuff
This has to be very old bacause after what ive read Kolgrim only played drums for Immortal from 1992-1993.
is kolgrim padden?
@@gui8045 yeah, but only when he was in immortal
@@TheBandThatSucked in the gig that varg vikernes plays guitar padden (kolgrim) was blonde, wtf haha and happy 2021
@@gui8045 was that Old Funeral though? Happy 2021. I even forgot i made the comment 7 years ago
@@TheBandThatSucked yeah
@metalklown HEY! Darkthrone wasnt fucked in the head, they did it for music, like Immortal!
When I see Kolgrim in the old interviews I always get a kind of giggle starting. He was raised in a Christian family and understood what it meant and even embraced the ethics, and then he had to defend himself against the idiots that claimed to be them - even though they judged the band before they even understood what they were doing. The opposite of Christianity.
Generally in interviews in Norway and Sweden at the time, he's the quiet one because - as he's put it - "I was about to explode".
Cool, i didn't know that! Thanks!
4:28 LMFAO "Fuck this mothafucking interviuuuu"
If it was done at the time Kolgrim was in the band then it was around 92-93. The guys from Immortal were probably trying to disassociate themselves with the church burnings and violence of that time.
Right On
Aw man thanks for the upload, this whole holocaust this had me pretty confused. Glad it has nothing to do with WWII
well spoken and Immortal is still TRUE
I think that this video is over middles 90´s; later that the video "Call of the wintermoon".....
who knew that they will become Kings of the Kingdom Cold... Hail IMMORTAL!!
they showed the "call of the wintermoon" video before this :o
Ранний Имортал !
I love it, typical "break" just as the band are really getting into it.
Immortal rule.
at the beginning of the interview, the reporter is somewhat scared, so when the end is going to have pleased him immortal guys, now pot today she may be a big fan of the band
You Know Abbat здесь молодой!!!Видос бомба
The translation seemed a little questionable to me. But the black metal scene was about not being like the death metal scene in that the music and the imagery was far more profound. In the case of Immortal, they were just doing what they enjoyed which includes all of the symbols, the fantasy lyrics, the corpse paint and so forth. It was not to my knowledge as serious as the other bands true, but that doesn't mean the music is any less serious.
Where can I see the translation for this?
He was either 18 or 19. Depending on the month.
Lenge Leve Immortal !
@Kororock yeah...I noticed a little sarcasm there too.
Can someone volunteer and make subtitles for this? in English?
NORGEEEE!
Demonaz was actually about 22 here.
haha IMMORTAL IS THE SHIT! i like em even more now!
Abbath is surprisingly silent here
Yeah they should interview Panzerchrist hahaha only they were not around at the time XD
GOD OF NORTH...!!!
a very interesting interview. after watching it, I can't say I have a lot of respect for these guys. they are basically saying that they don't believe in the whole ideology of black metal, and are wearing the corpse paint "because its popular". they distance themselves from the other black metal bands (Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone & Emperor) who actually went out on a limb and took risks at being hated for what they believed in!!!! very disappointing to be honest. it actually backs up what I was feeling back in 92-94 when I read their interviews. they just didn't seem like part of the scene. Immortal released 2 great albums in "Diabolical" and "Pure Holocaust", but they aren't TRUE Norwegian Black Metal. MAYHEM/DARKTHRONE/BURZUM FOR LIFE.
Poser alert.
Kolgrims hear-style xD
They are extremely apologetic.
Says the president of the genre.
It's kinda weird that Abbath was only 19 years old he looks like he's like 25 years old!
Was this ripped from a VHS? Shit.
@Marcoantonioflores
It was Grim who commited suicide not Kolgrim ;)
Where is the translation?
Since before Demonaz had his accident
He wasn't always lead guitarist...
young demonaz is quite handsome:)
@Billie Shakespeare I don't understand, sorry...
No, hes 1973 born, so 35-36
Subtitles please
It's different. Immortal don't believe in the TRADITIONAL black metal ideologies. Their ideologies come from nature and so forth. And how it should be kept sacred that's the kind of ideology they are using. The symbols are there because it helps give a visual representation to go along with the music. It's like that.
if someone wants to play music they love, they aren't gonna play any other genres, they are gonna play what they like. Honestly, it's a waste of energy to hate bands that write about nature, fantasy, and dark stories. Honestly, ideology does not drive the kind of black metal you are talking about - image does.
As much as I love Immortal, I do not believe in an image of sort. I would assume most of these bands would be inspired by the darkness of Norway, which can lead to some symbols. Immortal is not that way in this interview, but I wouldn't believe people such as Nattefrost or Infernus are that way.
All in all, I agree some of them seem to blow smoke up their fan's asses, but not all of them.
|m/
@Northernmight You know nothing. Immortal are the only original Norwegian Black metal band that were level headed and down too earth. The other crazy fucked in the head bands ( Mayhem, DarkThrone, ect) still deserve our respect, but i am under no illusions that they were megalomaniacs with egos too big for there heads. Immortal at least kept it real. Took the music seriously, took the scene and themselves less seriously. Thats what metal is about.
The interviewer tries to squeeze Immortal into a corner by asking them out on the satanic matters that were much spoken about during that time. She didnt know Immortal wasnt into satanic stuff until they tell so during the interview and she desperately tries to make them share their thoughts on that sort of stuff. She just failed....what an annoying tunnel visioned interviewer. Also tries demonize(no pun) the face paint they use during concerts, since it potentially could offend some (butt hurt) people. Would be interesting to know her reaction when SOND was released with great commercial success.
If they are in it for the money/fame then why did then disband at the high of their career and why arent they supporting their new album. I think Immortal are just having fun as they always have. They are not by any means symphonic in the sense of style nor do they have to be dark funeral. They have been around just as long and deserve just as much if not even more respect than many of the bm bands. Black Metal purists are no better then crusties or the scene kids. The music is whats important!
If anyone wants to play music simply because they love the sound, there's a whole bunch of other genres up for grasp. What the fuck is black metal without ideology and strong opinions?, it's what drives the genre.
padden?
Похоже на "Давай поженимся"
All the 13 year old norway-worshipping kids doesn't care what anyone say and what the meaning behind the words are, as long as it's said by one of their oh-so-godlike norwegian idols.
Listen to what they say, don´t blame me! I´m not putting words in their mouths! And you are so funny with your "president..." I almost did laugh...
thaht's erik brødreskift??
@georock123
It is when you do it like Immortal or Dimmu Borgir: symphonic crap with no real meaning, just a step away from being Amon Amarth.
На альбоме .Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism. на барабанах играл .Armagedda.
.Kolgrim. играл немного раньше чем .Armagedda. а на .Pure Holocaust. '93 .играл во время записи альбома вообще .Abbath. а .Erik. только во время концертных туров, а потом .Abbath. в скорости и вовсе уволил .Erik'a. из группы, до альбома .Blizzard Beasts. '97 года, у них вообще барабанщика небыло..потом появился .Horgh.
Все ударные партии на альбоме .Battles in the North. '95 исполнил сам .Abbath.
Hellhammer 'a вообще попросили снятся только в 2 клипах и этого альбома.

FFS, is this a fake translation?
estos wnes fueron a puro quedar bien ajajajajaajaj
igual en la epoca no podian andar alumbrando weas ....
Those of you who complain that they come across as too commercial in this clip should keep in mind that if the Scandinavian black metal bands had SOLELY been non-commercial enterprises, made for the 'true cult' members of a small group of people, NONE of them would have sung (growled) in English, but in their native language. The main reason for a Scandinavian group of any kind to sing in English, is to reach a larger audience and sell more albums.
Love these guys and their music, but they kind of fell apart in this interview. The entire time they came across as oblivious in regards to the symbolism they used and imagery they portrayed when asked about it. Can't help but think the corpse paint and imagery really did start as a gimmick to ride a wave that was taking Scandinavia by storm around that time. But at the end of the day, their music is some of my favorite from that wave so it's all worth it.
Kerry Bialo how did u find the translation
They never used satanic symbolism.
I find it amusing how strongly her line of questioning tries to tie them to Satanism. I realise that was the hot subject at the time, but she dosn't seem to be listening to their responces in regards to the scene, symbolism, ect.
Looks like shes trying to expose something that's not there and wasting their time. *sigh*
what?
eeeh, alle black metal-band er norske da, dust!
Демоназ не изменился так очки и носит
:D:D:D realy??
norsk seff
so they r not satanic
Unge kjekke karer
You're obviously not a fan.
@georock123
Synths or not, the sound is definitely what I would consider symphonic black metal. Either way, the band is half amusing joke and half money/fame machine for them. I'll admit there are songs I like, but I wouldn't listen to them with anybody else around, because it is just too embarrassing.
How to avoid controversy??? I know lets call it HOLOCAUST metal 😂 Today Antifa would have gone crazy
Completely opposite of what the genre was supposed to be. much like someone raping a great idea for individual gains. Every genre has the dorks that helps make it cliché and dumb. Immotal did that for Black Metal.
I like Immortals old stuff and all. But, it's just not right. It IS damn rape.
Earrape?
Are you really any different for thinking so stereotypically of religous people?
what??? immortal symphonic? and why symphonic is crap? maybe you haven't listen to emperor. immortal are great and not too commercial. and if you feel that when you listen to a immortal's song you are not normal at all.
Ugh, it's bands like Immortal that make it necessary to have separate names for true black metal and "black metal". They couldn't have been more clear, they are in it for the money and it is just an image. If they had been born ten years prior they would be playing hair metal. This kind of band sickens me.
WTF. You are taking shit on my face if you say that these guys are not satanic. They the perfect exemple of black metal, satanic metal.
lol evil is all a point of view. just look at what the church did in the name of the're so called "god" countless inocent people were killed. pfff yeah gods will my ass. all a lot of black metal bands like Immortal were trying to get was get noticed. people were freaked out by something they diden't understrand and brandid it as evil and unholy. lmao I allways laugh at how ignorant people can be. the world would be so much more simple if people just excepted people that are differant from them.
Барабанщик .Kolgrim. and .Armagedda. это один и тот же человек.
