Thanks for posting this video! I had to replace a failed on my 1978 280sl euro model one a year ago as it had failed and it was preventing the window from operating. I was able to get it via a US supplier. I wish I had seen this before I undertook the project. Is there a way to adjust it? From time to time the window still goes slow. Regrettably the prior owner had converted the manual windows to power windows some time in the past. I’ve owned the car since 1998 and had new window motors installed in about 2008. Thanks! Doug
Thanks for your comment. There is no way to adjust the window scrapers themselves….. but it is important to make sure you installed them the right way round with the velvet side touching the window. If you inadvertently installed it back to front with the rubber side touching the window that could account for the problem. The other things that can lead to a slow window are an incorrectly adjusted window. This can mean that there is too much pressure from the window on either the A pillar rubbers or the scrapers themselves. In a later video I’ll be showing how to correctly address the tilt and position of the window to avoid this problem. Last but not least, it’s important that the rails through which the window moves are lubricated with grease. Next time you have the door card off, make sure that each bottom corner of the window actually still has the runner attached and that there is plenty of grease on the rails through which these runners move. You’ll get a better idea of what I’m talking about if you watch one of the videos I did recently on this subject. Mike
@@MikesMercsandothercars How kind of you to identify these things as possibilities! Only one had failed, so getting the velvet side in the right orientation was not a problem. I’m thinking that you have identified the adjustments to the window that I probably have to work on. I’ll watch for future videos on those. This is a great service you are providing! I am in awe of the restorations you do!

Hi Mike, these video's have been Very helpful to me. Just one Thing ive encountered. I need To remove and replace the top anodised Strip on the front windshield Is there a link or have have u any info please ? Thanks john.
Thanks for your comment. The anodised aluminium strips round the windscreen are held on by special clips. The lower strip is missing on the red project car, so I will shortly be figuring out how to reattach and videoing the process. Maybe that will help? Mike
