    Hey Kent, I have a 1980 500SL and accidentally hit a pothole at night. Almost straight away I knew something was wrong so put it on a lift, three of the four welded sections had torn apart. Couldn't source the plates from anywhere so made my own and welded them in. If I were you I would weld a set of plates in asap.

    Thanks for providing useful information regarding rust of the sub frame

    Great tip on the suspension and about how Mercedes stands behind their engineering :-)
    Toyota warrantee, as a safety issue, actually replaced the frames on rusted out Tacoma's.
    Looks like you have polished that 380SL. Looks great. Try some "Forever Black" on the black rubber trim and with Signal Red your 380SL will pop.

    I have 77 450SL and the MB dealership in my area, Tulsa, OK, said it is over 30yrs old recall and no longer honor it. I even called to MBUSA customer care, they said it is an old recall which not be honored anymore.
    I used to work for MB Korea’s Service and Parts dept as a Technical Service Executive, and was in charge of managing all the recalls in Korean market. As far as I know, Daimler’s service policy saying that the safety recall shouldn’t be expired. We even honored the recalls for grey imported vehicles no matter how old it was. The warranty team had no question to dealerships regarding the old recall claims.

      I know that there seems to be some locational inconsistency from Mercedes in honoring the early R107 subframe recall. I am in Minneapolis, and Mercedes did honor it and welded in the reinforcement gussets to my 1973 450SL, about 18 months ago.

    As I understand the 280 SLs weren’t heavy enough to develop cracks. Only the V8 versions were.

      @Mercedessource  Год назад

      Generally true unless the SL has been subjected to road salt corrosion - then you want to inspect closely.

    Love your videos. Just purchased Fuel Injectors from you for my 380sl that worked great. On to my question. Rear Subframe bushings I cannot get the bolt to Start. Like the bushing are to big? It’s the same one that I used for my 88 560SL that worked fine. Have you come across that problem before? If so what did you do ?

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  4 месяца назад

      First, make sure the inside of the subframe cavity is perfectly clean of rust and old rubber.Put some silicone grease on the bushing. Use a block of wood on top of jack or jack stand, and lower the weight of the car down to force the bushing in place.

    Most of the bad suspension problems come from poor dirt roads that have a million potholes in it.

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  4 года назад +5

      Combine that with the heavier V8 engine ( 1980's and older were cast iron blocks) and I think you have a good handle on the problem. Note: The W114 and W115 have the same subframe but you do not see those tabs breaking off with any regularity. Of course the diesels are just tooo slow to cause any problem. LOL

    • @SuperMAZ007
      @SuperMAZ007 4 года назад +2

      @@Mercedessource First off thank you for the reply and let me tell you from personal experiences. It's not just a poor road but the fact people don't wash there vehicles(aka don't take care of them and let the salt,dirt stay where it stained). And that itself creates another set of long term problems. Not all the MB models are meant to be driven on poor roads unless you are willing do modify the suspension and some other things.

    • @petercollingwood522
      @petercollingwood522 4 года назад +1

      @@SuperMAZ007 Disagree. These cars were sold worldwide and particularly where I come from (Africa) you can find a lot more dirt and lower quality roads than what you'd fined in Europe. This is just an example of the fact that even Mercedes Benz is still comprised of humans, who are imperfect.

    • @SuperMAZ007
      @SuperMAZ007 4 года назад +1

      @@petercollingwood522 That is interesting I will not argue with that statement. Just for clarification what I have seen is mostly carnage done by rust aka road salt. Something I think is not present in Africa. If I sum up all the fault I have seen on the MB I have worked with. Most are linked to old age(some things just fail over time), negligent behavior( aka no oil changes,cutting corners on maintenance), road salt,dirt( there are some types of dirt that actually make vehicles rust faster, very much present in the northern hemisphere).Last but not least unsuitable fuel for the vehicle,meaning using way too low octane fuel or unstable fuel additives to make a high octane fuel (resent in some East-Europe states). The cars that come from West-Europe rarely suffer under these problems.

    hello I am an enthusiast like you it makes me happy, I would like to have some information please, I bought a slc 350 v8 1973, it is possible that you send me a diagram of the fuel tank and the fuel filter the diagram that goes to the engine, from start to finish (the hoses) I am lost because there is no fuel filter and I am in full restoration I leave you my email please thank you very much in advance.

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  Год назад +2

      Sorry, I do not have the diagram you desire. You need the factory service manual and you can find one on the internet if you search hard. You have a D-jetronic fuel system and I have many kits and resources on my website to fix the many problems you may run into if the engine has not been maintained. Please send questions through my website. I do not do business on RUclips. Here is the link: mercedessource.com/store/search?keys=d-jetronic
