Finally discovered the "elusive keyboard player" of St. Vincent's live band and I couldn't be happier than now, especially knowing that she's been an underrated jazz musician with an established career all this time😆
It's like I'm back in the 70's listening to 106.7 WRVR in New York City again. God, I miss that station! What a good time for jazz. It was an almost endless pallet of tasteful experimentation that had never been done before. A journey with almost every new track. This piece would have ruled. If only I had a time machine and could drop this (on vinyl) on Riverside Broadcasting's door. It would have blown their minds. THANK YOU for keeping it alive. This timeless contemporary fusion jazz lives on.
OK, this killed me in 39 seconds, the intro alone did it for me, absolutely incredible chord changes setting up a great mood and vibe and groove, reminds a bit of Headhunters circa 1974, but it's got some wicked changes and a contemporary energy all its own.
Love this! It's like Steely Dan-Jazz, but more modern and progressive. ...Corea, Hancock. I want this on vinyl.
Nord sure knows the best way to show off their instruments by having great musician play tunes with them. Rachel is sounding good!!!!

Sounds like maybe a Steely Dan instrumental type thing? Great chords.
Good observation and comment
the bassist looks like sharay reed, great band
What Rhodes sample was used here? Anybody who's gotta clue? Maybe two stacked together?

Good job bro, JESUS IS COMING BACK SOON;PREPARE
Very difficult to get the sublime tones mixing it with the hard edge key bursts ,, sounds incompatible to me. Tho i can see the need to make statement with them,, else your just gliding all over the keyboard. Getting the mix right for tuneful effect rather than impact is key.
Still no Nord grand being used ffs.
She is a good musician, plays well, BUT in each of her improvisations, I hear a set of different exercises in jazz modes that simply stick together, I don’t hear one line - the melody - the main thing that creates recognition and desire to listen to the end makes, no sense what can be felt, we say - "Waves in the basin".
nope
Melody is only one idea to improvise on. Don’t confine her. You can improvise on chords or scales or whatever in you heart. This ain’t Stella by Starlight or Stardust.
I guess you feel this for some reasons.Yes,there's not much melodic built up in impro, but it's done in a 70 s funky language somehow.More rhtymical and short repeated motifs than melodic development.
👏👏👏
