Double bass is like many other physical feats. For most people, in order to be accurate and fast, you need to put in regular practice several days a week, probably for atleast an hour, and it will still take up to a couple years. Raymond Herrera, the original Fear Factory drummer, recorded their first album after only 3 years of starting drums, but he was intentionally practicing double bass for up to 5 hours per day most days of the week. It takes time, patience, and tenacity.
Mario Duplantier, baby. :) It's a shame he doesn't knoe what a mark he and Gojira left on metal. Great metal drummer; very "open" sounding and his fills have a nice chop to them. Brilliant I say. One of the greatest bands I came across. Thank you, Mario and Gojira. :)
He's changing his foot position on the pedal to get different kick drum sounds, and fast as shit. Mucho impressive. He almost plays the songs as if he's a melodic instrument, despite there not being notes... If that makes sense
I have a stick of his that I caught at a concert in Albuquerque. Waited outside the bus to get it signed and wound up chatting with Joe (who couldnt find Mario) for a good half hour. Finally mario showed up and I have that stick on fucking display.
think about it iv been playing drums for 8 years and i never use gloves i practice about 5 to 6 days a week.some of the Callas will split open and cause bleeding and infection especially if you continue to play with the injury.he is on tour playing every day for weeks on end and injury like that can get a tour cancelled. so he is playing it smart by not taking the risk of injury.
Mario is a very good drummer! I just like the way he is playing with ATTACK...I think his got is own style and he is very creative... Lâche-pas mec!!! j'ai hâte de vous voir a Montreal
There are alot of good cymbal companies, and the legends i guess is sabian, zildjian and paiste, but tbh i'd give my support to meinl for beeing a breath of fresh air in the industry, with their creative and innovative designs:)
Do you have any tips on making blastbeats more interesting, I love them in straight up black metal but I am writing a prog extreme metal album and I dont want normal blastbeats? Any tips?
20" Oriental China, 13" A Custom Hats, 17" A Custom Crash, A custom splash, Z Custom Megabell ride (Although I think he uses Z3 sometimes...) and what looks like an 18" Z3 Ultra Hammered China. Zildjian website must be outdated or Mario decided to use different cymbals?
Yeah i know, Im just saying because Im curious about his cymbals, not trying to bash on anyone. Every time more companies and their websites are less updated from what their artists are using, it just bothers me man... BTW If anyone what splash he is using, please tell me, it sounds really good!
I've noticed that Zildjian tends to not update their artist's set up information very often, so your info may in fact be wrong. That china on the right has the hammering marks of a Z3 or Z Custom.
well i guess i like the fact that they have more distinct series, and so many sub series, so it's easier to pick out the differences, and this is ofcourse just personal oppinion, but meinl has something i like in all cymbals, they have hats i like, rides, crashes, chinas, splashes, efects, wheras with other companies i might only like their crashes or rides, but not the hats etc, if you know what i mean:) but ofcourse thats just personal pref.
He uses a custom cymbals a lot. For the l'enfant Sauvage tour and the 2010 to 2011 way of all flesh tour. He started using more z3 cymbals. Since 2019 and onward he is using the k sweet crashes and hats
It's been a long time Mario's cymbal setup has not been updated through Zildjian's website. From what I saw live, I think he's currently playing 14" Z3 Mastersound hats (he told me that), one Z3 ultra hammered china (21" I think), his main crash is a 19 "Rezo crash and the other would be either an 18" A Custom Projection or Z3. Don't know why he switched his K Custom Hybrid 19" chinas, that sounded much better in my opinion.
He had k hybrids in 2009 but I guess they didn't cut well through the mix. His setup I think for the l'enfant Sauvage tour was probably 2x 19 z3 ultra hammered Chinas. 14 z3 hats and I've seen an 18 z3 medium crash occasionally on his set. His a custom cymbals then I think were 2x 18 a custom projection crashes and his 10 a custom splash
Possibly try a side snare? A really interesting blast I've heard is on Dark Fortress - Osiris which accents the downbeat between floor tom and main snare whilst blasting on the side snare. Use your imagination and try different things out! :)
absolutely love mario and gojira, but there's no denying that if this was a video of some guy and band no one really knew about, people would be bitching about this not being "SICK ENOUGH". as in fast or complex enough. not saying this video isn't worth the nice comments, i'm saying be as nice to the nameless guy playing a song of the same skill level as this one. or something
No his cymbal setup for this video is 18 oriental china trash 13 a custom hi hats 18 a custom projection crash x2 10 a custom splash in the middle 21 z custom mega bell ride 19 z3 ultra hammered China

I have no idea how one person could genuinely dislike this, let alone 24 people.
His bell on the ride is amazing

I respect this guy even more now. Seriously, the fact that he can one-foot blast on a set of Iron Cobras is just awe inducing.

that would be thomas Haake, sir.

it’s not to get different sounds but I will agree with the last paragraph.
his hihats are a hundred miles away from him, compared to how i use them lol
Crazy right? People nowadays have that hihat stand adapted for Double pedal. Not necessary to the Hihat be that far.
This stage is too small to contain him! Seriously he's great, an idol to all heavy hitters like myself.
