Wouldn't it be easier to mark the bridge position and leave the tape where the bridge sits in place prior to finishing so that you won't have to remove finish later?
You can lay tape and clean up later but that bump from the tape makes the wet and level sanding during finish touchy. The neck needs to be attached so you know the exact position of the nut. That lets you know where the saddle and bridge belongs. The more accurate you place the saddle the better the intonation

Is the measurement differential the same for a 24.9" scale. Set the Low E saddle back 1/8" from the 24.9" hi E ?
Rich915 yes
I use a 3/32 bit to clear out the finish. I am pleased that you are finding these tidbits helpful. From Glenn and I

John - what size bit do you use in the inlay tool? Thanks you for the video. Big help.
My bridge is coming up I want to take it off and re glue it and put 2 screws on it u think its a good idea?
Jose Pt Tellez NO SCREWS I have repaired many. You can see how I pull a bridge , clean off the old glue and reglue. Be sure to get the old glue off.
When you take you measurements to the 12th fret . Do you measure to the middle of the 12th fret then double
yes as that is the scale length. you are on the right track
Are you using Fish glue here ?
I prefer hot hide glue
