I appreciate the information you dispense. I have structural issues; curved spine. Many of the issues that surround osteoporosis involve falls and balance. I just started to add impact training. But one thing my last 3 yrs of exercising has done is to stabilize my back. So, my muscles have held my bones in place even when I have not added to my bone health. Keep up your the good work.
I'm wondering if there's any indication of what shape our bones are in by looking at looking at our fingernails and toenails? I have noticed over the last two years that my fingernails are changing. Prior to 2 yes ago, mine were barely growing, and they split easily. Now my nails grow quickly, and they are strong. Is there any correlation to how our bones are changing?

On 10-16-2023 I had 4 lumbar discs replaced L2-L5 & my spine has fractures on both sides of the surgery & multiple fractures throughout the spine. Haven’t had the density test, MRI & X-ray explained to me yet, have dropped off copies of tests to both the surgeon & PCP. I do “tai chi” every morning, a very modified version as I’m in terrible pain. I’m afraid to add weights, as I don’t know how fragile I am. I live in PR, not very good healthcare left on the island since hurricane Maria 2017. I have my home on the market & moving back to the northeastern US, where I have family & friends willing to assist me. Does anything come to mind, as to an exercise program with fractures? Thank you for all of your information, I’ll be looking you up, soon!

I'm sorry to hear you have myeloma. My husband had it and it's not an easy thing to deal with, although there's a lot of things that can really help you if you research it. One thing that I found out that my husband never had the chance to do was to be on a ketogenic diet. The low carbohydrate and high fat and protein starves the cancer. There was a interview with a man on the 700 Club who was given 3 months to live, and I'm sure he had myeloma by what he described and he went on the diet supervised by a physician and he was alive several years later. I personally would not worry about animal protein because the abnormal protein that is showing in your urine is produced by your bone marrow and that's because of the cancer. Sending my prayers and best wishes to you. Please research turmeric and Essiac tea as well as Joe Tppens cancer protocol. He has a Facebook group and people there are having great success with what he has done and other people post their what they're doing to help themselves. After my husband's stem cell transplant I had him on a regiment of several supplements including turmeric and I believe it was a dry form of vitamin A, green tea and several other things and he did extremely well on those supplements
Just a second comment that when my husband's was diagnosed I researched and found a calcium called Advacal that is still available, and he never had a fracture during his illness. He occasionally was on bone drugs but he ended up with ostenecrosis of his jaw.

Hi! Checkout the videos on my channel about Vibration Therapy, the first one is called "Vibration Therapy for Osteoporosis (Episode 1 of 3) | Interview with Dr. Clinton Rubin from Marodyne"
Apparently not. There have been a couple of studies on this - although a bit short. What they do help with is balance and so can reduce your risk of falling which is also very important. So rebounding is good to include.
The impact is softened too much on a rebounder. I've been running that way since 2005, and I don't think it does anything for bones. I do it for cardio, but have scaled back from every day to every other, because excessive cardio is bad for bones.

Meaning, they only have done this through diet, lifestyle, supplements and exercise and seen a significant change in T-score.
For sure! HRT is a powerful tool but not the only tool. Additionally, we can use some creative ways to get around roadblocks and use some of the HRT tools based on custom needs. It's been shown that heel drops have been helpful for bones, so I'd have to think that flamenco would be even better! Whether what you're doing is enough or not depends on where you're starting out with testing, and any progress that might be shown. I'm in Dr Doug's Healthspan group he lists here. It's been very helpful in getting answers.
I have osteoporosis, and recently added heel drops, since learning about the benefits of impact. I've progressed to now often doing them in bare feet, dropping onto tiled floor. I try to do it hard enough to feel it all the way to my jaw. I do a few all throughout the day, not counting, but hopefully at least 100. I do a little bit of jumping as well. Also impact for arms, falling forwards towards a wall, arms out so that palms hit the wall. I won't know if it's helping till I've had my next bone scan
Dr. Doug, how big, or small, a role does prolonged use of SSRIs play in bone loss? I have read studies saying it's a definite factor. My doctor says she's more concerned about other types of drugs.

But, that will not cower all needs.
It doesn't replace exercise , but the studies have shown that it does help with bone density as well as circulation.
