Both sides of my family are from Acadia parish going back at least 150 years. Generations of rice farmers, crawfish farmers, and builders. I don’t live in Louisiana anymore but the older I get, and seeing channels like this, make me want to move back and settle down in south LA. The world is getting too crazy.
Native Texan but I have Cajun blood running through my veins. My fondest memories are fishing and crabbing with my family. Thanks for sharing your story with us and thanks to Peter for pointing the way to your channel.✝️🙏🏼❤️
I'm from Texas. Lived in Louisiana. Their culture is so much better. They give tips. Give you bait. Help you out and friendly. Everyone here in Texas is toxic. Acts like they own the lakes. Refuse any tips or trick unless they taking money from you.
I also found your channel through Peter Santanello. That crab looks delicious! YUMMY!
Thank you! 🦀
Me too
Me too!
Me three 😊
Just found you watching Peters site with you guys. I’m looking forward to watching many of your videos. This one was great. Take care and will see you on the next one.
This is one of the best outdoors channels out there, I love watching you guys living off what the land and water provides.💯😋👍🏻
Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay, we crabbed with chicken legs attached to string just like that other fellow. Great memories.
My family did too, the Elizabeth River❤
@johnhalstead5938, I just commented on that above. When I was a kid our parents would take us to the coast and we’d crab with the nets, but I’ve never seen that string method. Pretty simple, but effective.
If you’re from that area, you might be interested in this crab catching RUclipsr whose name escapes me at the moment. Actually I think it’s Luke McFadden.
I crabbed Kent Narrows and Wye River in the 80s, 90s. 600 ft Trot lines w eels. Those Wye river monsters were black bottoms and doublers. all morning
Look so good and all that FRESH Blue crab!🤤😋🤤😋
Looked like a good time, and productive, too!
Always good to meet good people; add 'em to your list!
God bless ALL of us!

Thank you!
Thank Y'all for the hoop crab net hook up from Billy's Marine. I ordered a dozen hoops today.
Hope they work good for you!
You making me miss my hometown....I'm stuck in San Diego. When you offered your chicken to a dude you've never met before; man .... DATS Louisiana for ya! Love it!
Thank you! 🦀
I so love watching anyone from Louisiana.
My husband and I lived in Louisiana 1967, we lived there almost 3 years. We didn't have much money, I was 20 my husband was 22. We crabbed the way the young man was, several strings out and a dip net. Out of all the places we lived, Louisiana was the one we missed the most. I just found your channel and really enjoy it. ❤❤❤
That’s a very nice comment.
@@Whipple1 Thank you, but it is a wonderful place. We lived at Prairieville, that's near Baton Rouge, we had the most wonderful families around us.
Thanks so much! My son loves using the string lines for crabs. We will be doing that soon since it seems like the crabs are starting to run. 🦀
@@marthaholcomb8148I'm in Gonzales right now for work. However I live on the Texas Gulf Coast right off of Galveston Bay. Crab and shrimp plus plenty fresh fish is our diet.
I like your channel. I caught lot s of crayfish when I was a kid. We sold them around town in a Texas town. I agree you have a great outdoor channel.
You did a awesome job catching the Crabs and cooking them I enjoyed this episode I will give you another 10 you deserve it 💯🔥
Now that’s the Louisiana I remember from a boy. Just missing the newspaper on the table and dumping all the food in it 😂. Awesome job brother.
We use to pour it on newspaper too! Good old days! Thank you! 🦀🦀
@@datlouisianalife Forgot to mentioned I moved away when I was 13 and now I’m 60 so yes good ole days for sure, I never met a stranger when I lived in Louisiana very nice people back then and I’m sure there are a lot now still there.
@@Campbell_Clan One of the reasons I love living here. Everyone always willing to help you with anything. I meet people all the time and it's always a great experience. Great people, great fun, and great food! 🦀🦀🦀

@@damienford5667 Hi! Those are locally made here in Houma. You can get them from Billy's Marine. I think they started shipping them due to the high demand 😁

Really appreciate that! 🦀🦀🦀
My mouth is watering.
Now……. that’s livin. Just subscribed after seeing you on Peter’s channel.
It’s been years since I crabbed as a kid, but we used the nets like yours. The string line technique is interesting, and I’m sure it’s common, but it’s the first time I’ve ever seen it.
Now this is really usefull! Thank you for sharing another way of life. Hmm crab! Bon apetit aux cousins Acadiens du Bayou!
Dammit.. we were about to put a meat loaf in the oven till this video came on. Now we at the boil house 30 min later getting boiled crabs and shrimp! Lol livin dat life baw!!
Hahaha! Meatloaf tomorrow! 🤣
Brings back good memories of crabbing in Lafitte as a child. Joe's Landing. It was a magical place to me as a child.
I have some fond memories of catching crabs as a child using the same method the man was using attaching a chicken leg to a string and pulling them up!
My son loves the chicken on a string method. It's more engaging!
Looks deauxlicious!!!
This warms my Maryland heart so much.
I saw y'all on Peter's Channel....luv these videos😊
When I was a child it was my favorite thing too do is catch crabs one at a time Louisiana. That was back in 1955. Military family so moved back too Maine . Got married went Lobstering instead. Yummy in both places,.
Lobstering sounds like a good time!
What up Keith and Tara Stephen perschall from slidell Louisiana God bless you good to watch yall channel
Lots of fun watching you catch crabs! That was a first for me! I’ve never seen anyone catch crabs. I live in north Louisiana. I love all Cajun cooked food. I wish I did live where I could catch shrimp mainly bc I love em! But I wouldn’t turn any seafood down!
Out-friggin-standing!
My sister-in-law's family is from Houma. The Marmond's. This was amazing to watch.
Love your channel and I was also sent here by Peter Satanello! Yall are wonderful people. The crabbing was a good learning experience for me. I have only been crabbing once in my life in Galveston TX. Love your life!

@@garlandhood9729 It's a 40hp GatorTail
@@datlouisianalife that dude sounds great got my boat rigged up to fish down there married a girl from New Orleans and ain’t been down fishing yet but one day
If you're willing to change up a little bit, try adding big chunks of pineapple with you're potatoes, corn and mushrooms. Sweet and spicy 😊. And a stick of butter with your crabs. I do this when we have a shrimp boil.
Gonna definitely try the pineapple! I use orange juice and butter when I do my crawfish. Hopefully we will catch and cook some soon. It hasn't been that great for crawfish lately.
Hello from Australia. Over from Peter's channel. I have seen before that they cook their vegetables with the crabs. I'm just curious why you didn't. Keep the great videos coming
A lot of people cook the vegetables with their seafood but I usually do it separately. I don't season my vegetables as much as the seafood and also I find that it keeps your vegetables from getting all smashed up. Thank you! 🦀
Looking forward to yalls house boat adventures. Lots of good ole crabs. Love yall
💗
Right on cool show y’all. Good catch.
Love all your videos but I think the crabbing videos are my favorite. You make it look easy
Appreciate it! They don't always bite that good. I get lucky sometimes. 🦀🦀 Thanks buddy!
Wow that's some crabbing more than in Florida!!! Cooking and eating now ,.....,
Looks like we’re gonna have a really good season on the crabs! Cmon Crabs! 3 dozen in a hour that’s good! Chicken leg quarters always does the best I’ve found!
Appreciate it buddy! 🦀
I have never had crab. Looks yummy! Love the channel so interesting. Thank you. 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
Another awesome video, 👊 keep ‘em coming
Man my mouth started watering as soon as that flame came on. I hit um good at the Bonnet Carre spillway one time. Biggest crab I have ever seen . Makes me miss living down there.
Ya'll some really awesome people that life on the water is the coolest thing ever and buddy you have such a heavenly beauty for a soul mate what a perfect partner
Thanks so much! 🐊🍻
I’ve had some really good days crabbing but that was really great that place is crawling with crabs
take some of the cooking broth and add shallots and reduce , add some corn starch , butter, cream, lemon and fresh dill that would make an amazing sauce for the crab meat :)
Crabbing (with a string line or net/pot trap) is always a good time and offers awesome eating regardless of the cooking method. Love your channel and wish you much success!
Thanks a bunch! 🦀
So excited for you guys with your new (to you) and larger camp. Look forward to a ton of video adventures this year as you spruce it up (w solar panels and personal touches) and Drake and Tara continues to catch monster Bluegill out da back. I live in San Diego (retired Navy) but frequently visit my daughter and family in Baton Rouge (go LSU!!!)
Lived in New Orleans as a young boy which triggered my lifelong love for hunting and fishing...guess that's why I enjoy your channel so much. Think next time I visit LA, I'm gonna have to try my hand at crabbing to add em to the neighborhood mudbug boils. No crabbing really available in San Diego, but my son and grandson and I do pretty good harvesting a bunch of Spiny Lobster during the 6 month long season here.
I follow a lot of hunting and fishing channels, but really enjoy Dat Louisiana Life more than most. Take good care.
@@johnbush2798 We truly appreciate that! I'm sure we gonna be spending a lot of time out at the houseboat. We actually spent the whole week out there last week. Crabs and crawfish for the neighbors! Man, that's awesome! I think I would trade crabs for the lobsters. Take care buddy! 🦀
Awesome day of crabbing. Wish we had something like this structure in Lafitte. Love the nets
Thank you! 🦀
