@Clarissa 1986 As vegans we strive to do the best we can with what we have. Firstly, intention matters. I understand that animals die in oder for us to grow plants but that's not the intention. When one eats bacon they are asking for an animal to be killed. Secondly, the animals carnists eat eat plants as well therefore eating animals kills more animals than eating plants. Obviously 🙄. Finally, we need to eat something to survive. I do agree that as vegans we need to do more in making sure we don't fall into the trap of thinking every that doesn't contain animals is automatically *good* We all need to think more about what it is we eat and buy in general.
@Clarissa 1986 Okay you said a lot but I'm afraid you didn't get my point. I will admit that pesticides are destructive and that some small animals may die during the harvesting of certain crops. Vegan farms however are more likely to take this into consideration. Unfortunately it's not possible for all of us to aquire food from such farms. You said results matter and not intention. Well I would say both do. If we stopped animal agriculture we would save up to 75% of agricultural land and vastly decreases the amount of plants harvested. This makes sense as we would have less mouths to feed. Humans, instead of both humans and animals we farm. Therefore it would *RESULT* in less deaths if we just ate plants. It also sounds like you're making a Tū quoque. Saying that vegan are also responsible for animals dying doesn't discredit the vegan argument. All we want to do is remove *unnecessary* suffering. *it sonds to me like you are agreeing with the vegan argument. You just don't think that we are doing enough and that we should be doing more.* In March (I think) I was walking at night and stepped on a snail. My heart broke 💔 because it died as a result. Vegans aren't saying that animals will never die as a result of our lives. We are just against unnecessary harm and exploitation. Our mere existence unfortunately means that there will be harm done to animals. We should however try to mitigate that as much as possible

that just goes to show how brainwashed people really are. most people understand empathy and claim to be empathetic when involved in other scenarios, but they still don't see the problem with eating animal products. the vets in this video are a prime example of that, they really think what they're doing is right and that they're helping these animals. they don't even see the problem and it's actually scary.
For them to apply that rationale to animals we would need to establish which animals are "someone". Maybe all animals are, maybe not, but the underlying point is our moral and legal frameworks right now consider all animals as property, and that's definitely not right

@@uptown_rider8078 especially the first guy with his milk bottle, right? What a pillar of society! Quite a thick one. 😆 As for the farmers, I don’t wish for them to go out of business, I just wish they would produce plant food instead of animal food. The governments would do well to help them towards that. It would be great to see a big variety of good quality vegetables and legumes in the shops, instead of the limited choice, poorly grown and devoid of nutrients products I find at the moment. What an amazing world that would be! Better for people, better for animals.
@@uptown_rider8078 With all due respect and friendliness: we don’t need to eat animal products to be healthy. By the contrary. :) It is not me saying that, the professionals are. This includes the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (US - over 100 000 accredited dieticians and nutritionists) plus the British Dietetics Association. These are official organisations. I am including below links to both their statements regarding plant based diets. US: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27886704/ UK: www.bda.uk.com/resource/british-dietetic-association-confirms-well-planned-vegan-diets-can-support-healthy-living-in-people-of-all-ages.html Quote from AND (US): “It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that appropriately planned vegetarian, including vegan, diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. These diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, older adulthood, and for athletes. Plant-based diets are more environmentally sustainable than diets rich in animal products because they use fewer natural resources and are associated with much less environmental damage.” As to the argument regarding land use: the majority of the plants being grown today are used to feed live stock, particularly grains and soy. My understanding is that if people would stop eating animals, we would use a lot less land for producing the food for those animals. Instead, we would use part of that land to grow more plants for human consumption. And we would still be left with some land to spare. Plus we would reduce the amount of fossil fuel used. In support to that, below is a link from Cornell University (this particular study focuses on grain but there are many other similar studies out there): news.cornell.edu/stories/1997/08/us-could-feed-800-million-people-grain-livestock-eat A quick quote: “Animal protein production requires more than eight times as much fossil-fuel energy than production of plant protein while yielding animal protein that is only 1.4 times more nutritious for humans than the comparable amount of plant protein, according to the Cornell ecologist's analysis.” But the whole world could not go vegan overnight so I agree with you that reducing animal consumption would be a good place to start.

As sad as it is, I really doubt that they are lying. Cognitive dissonance shapes their world view, I'm pretty sure they actually believe what they are saying.
I’m so glad he mentioned the selective breeding part. I’ve been recently thinking about that aspect. To me, it’s like (and this is such a bad analogy lol) if I were the only one who could make and give out band aids, and then I started slapping people in the face so they would need a bandaid and they would have to come to me, and then I’d keep slapping them so they would always need a bandaid. It’s giving them a need for them to be around humans, and then we go and hurt them. And the things we selectively breed them for are completely useless for them, they’re useful for humans (and not really tbh). So not only did we go out of our way to ensure that their bodies do something unuseful, we hurt them for it. We made their bodies work against them and then people argue that we need meat because of biology. So it’s ok to mess with others biology but we must keep eating meat because it’s in our biology, which isn’t even a necessity in today’s circumstances.

As vegans we strive to do the best we can with what we have.
I do agree that as vegans we need to do more in making sure we don't fall into the trap of thinking every that doesn't contain animals is automatically *good*
We all need to think more about what it is we eat and buy in general.
@Clarissa 1986 Your reasoning is mind-bogglingly all over the place. Admit it, you just like the taste.
@Clarissa 1986
Okay you said a lot but I'm afraid you didn't get my point.
You just don't think that we are doing enough and that we should be doing more.*
In March (I think) I was walking at night and stepped on a snail.

It is not me saying that, the professionals are. I am including below links to both their statements regarding plant based diets.

UK:
www.bda.uk.com/resource/british-dietetic-association-confirms-well-planned-vegan-diets-can-support-healthy-living-in-people-of-all-ages.html
Quote from AND (US):
“It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that appropriately planned vegetarian, including vegan, diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. These diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, older adulthood, and for athletes. Plant-based diets are more environmentally sustainable than diets rich in animal products because they use fewer natural resources and are associated with much less environmental damage.”
As to the argument regarding land use: the majority of the plants being grown today are used to feed live stock, particularly grains and soy. My understanding is that if people would stop eating animals, we would use a lot less land for producing the food for those animals. Instead, we would use part of that land to grow more plants for human consumption. And we would still be left with some land to spare.
Plus we would reduce the amount of fossil fuel used.
In support to that, below is a link from Cornell University (this particular study focuses on grain but there are many other similar studies out there):
news.cornell.edu/stories/1997/08/us-could-feed-800-million-people-grain-livestock-eat
A quick quote:
“Animal protein production requires more than eight times as much fossil-fuel energy than production of plant protein while yielding animal protein that is only 1.4 times more nutritious for humans than the comparable amount of plant protein, according to the Cornell ecologist's analysis.”
But the whole world could not go vegan overnight so I agree with you that reducing animal consumption would be a good place to start.

I also have a stuffed pig (I hope that is the right term for fluffy toys) in my bed and pictures of cows on the walls. And a mug that says something about pigs. Cause I love both of these animals A LOT! The mug says: eat figs not pigs.
Animals are not food for us.
That "Faster than a Calf" challenge made me genuinely wretch.
These farmers have next level cognitive dissonance. Disgusting. 🤢Thank you for your work, Ed 👍🏽
We are lucky to have you as an activist Ed, thank you! I'm going to start activism next year in Argentina.
You are SO intelligent, brave and EXTREMELY well spoken. Vegans everywhere now.
