Audio Notched White Noise Sampler in the Treatment for Tinnitus: 1000 Hz to 10,000 Hz

  • There are many possible ways to treat tinnitus. Effective sound therapy like pink noise or white noise can significantly reduce the perceived loudness of tinnitus. Notched audio, however, is the next step beyond generic sound therapy and is tailored precisely to an individual's specific tinnitus frequency. Simply put, notched sound or audio therapy is one type of tinnitus treatment that can reduce the intensity or loudness of tinnitus by listening to special audio tracks on any device whether phone, car stereo, music player, etc.
The key change that must be made to the audio track, however, is that the specific tinnitus frequency that is experienced by a given individual must be completely removed from the audio track. By removing this specific sound frequency or "notching" the audio, the tinnitus itself then supplies the missing frequency sound in the audio track.
The theory goes that when an individual turns off the notched audio sound, the brain will hear an absence of sound (obviously)... but more importantly may ALSO turn off the tinnitus sound. In practice, the tinnitus sound does not turn off for most, but does reduce in many tinnitus sufferers.
For notched white noise higher than 10,000Hz, you can find here:
    www.CheckHearing.org/notcheds...
Notched pink noise examples: • Notched Pink Noise Sam...
    Treatment protocol:
The suggested treatment protocol if your tinnitus frequency is 8,000Hz or less is to listen to the notched sound for long periods of time, ~ 5 hours or more at a time. Notched music appears to work as well as notched white noise.
If tinnitus frequency is above 8,000Hz, listen to the notched white noise three times a day, 1 hour each time. Notched music does not appear to work well for tinnitus higher than 8,000Hz. Be aware, there is no research evidence that notched sound therapy works for tinnitus frequencies higher than 13,000Hz.
Sleeping with the notched white noise in either situation works well by additionally providing masking. Tinnitus relief with notched sound therapy usually takes weeks to months.

I have had tinnitus for 8 months and was driving me crazy, couldn’t sleep, became depressed etc. I started using bi modal stimulation, bio feed back, sound therapy such as this, taking magnesium and B complex and most importantly biking or brisk walking and my tinnitus level went down to 6 & sometimes 5 from 8 ( 10 being the highest). In the tinnitus world this type of decrease in volume is great- good luck to all, we are in this together. Stay strong

I have three distinct notes that I can hear really loudly, but I'm unable to isolate them for the tinnitus matching, so I'm just cranking this video up as loud as I can tolerate it to see if my tinnitus disappears (even temporarily). Well me too actually. I was JUST telling my husband lastnight about this. He has no clue how bad it is. ...only saying that he has some ringing too and nothing you can do but he has zero clue what I'm talking about. Zero. Many people have tinnitus. But many people have it SEVERE. I have it severe and 3 different frequencies. I also have an additional super low humming in right ear that sounds like a low engine. CONSTANTLY.
I have to sleep with a noise machine and up the highest setting.
I have mentioned the only cure is a gun to my head as well. Because it is. .......however I don't want to die that way. So I just don't have anything else to do except wear my blu tooth daily with white noise.
The proprietor of the famous Texas Road House , who I knew personally in Louisville, Shot himself in a field at his house because of this.
(I knew he had other issues though because I worked with him but extreme Tinnitus I can definitely imagine him NOT tolerating.
God help all of us with the severe cases of this. Being outside is the only relief I have and I'm tempted to just sleep outside more. I still hear it on quiet nights of course but it just helps.

This is like scratching an itch. Itch is a type of pain. It is the lowest pain on a perceivable pain scale. When you scratch an itch, you induce a bigger pain to cover up the lower pain. When you notch out frequencies of white noise, which is the full spectrum of noise, you can remove the specific frequency of the tinnitus. When you crank up the volume of the notched frequency white noise, this makes your brain notice all the other frequencies more except for the notched frequencies. Like scratching an itch, it feels good for the moment at least, but seems to come back after you finish.

You're describing perfectly the phenomenon known to ENT surgeons and Audiologists as RI (Residual Inhibition) For some the tinnitus stops or apparently is inaudible but soon returns on the masking sound ending. Sometimes relief but for some none at all. To me all these notches sounded identical and nothing covered up my binaural tinnitus.

Hello, just to undestand well. I found that my hearing is similar in frecuency to 9300 Hz. So, I should hear all the tracks, from the beginning, and silence the 9000Hz and 9500Hz tracks? Thanks for the help!

    • @MrKentaroMotoPI
      @MrKentaroMotoPI Год назад +7

If your tinnitus frequency is 9300, then theoretically, you should just play the 9000 and 9500. Your brain will add the tinnitus sound to fill in the notch and get a white noise sound it liked. Then, when you turn off the sound, your brain will hopefully turn off the tinnitus.

As stated in the text description box:
"The suggested treatment protocol if your tinnitus frequency is 8,000Hz or less is to listen to the notched sound for long periods of time, ~ 5 hours or more at a time.
Tinnitus relief with notched sound therapy usually takes weeks to months."

Based on their theory, it should be the same volume as the tinnitus sound. With that said, the white noise has a much wider spectrum than the tinnitus. The average sound would need to be significantly higher. I've been playing it at music levels to start with.
