He isn't even losing anything. Sure, seeing exclusives comes to other systems may invalidate his purchase (at least to him), but he still has access to the same PlayStation and Square Enix games. Complaining that other people are getting the same civil rights would be a more accurate comparison, but it would still be just as ridiculous regardless.

I think bigger thing might be that FF16 did not do that well as expected, there were so many players in FF14 community that were hyped to the moon to get their hands on it(because of Yoshi P as the producer). The issue is Sony made exclusivity contract for atleast 6months after release, that it must be only on PS5 + priority development of the port. Guess what, majority of FF14 playerbase is on PC platform, they lost big time, in terms of potentional sales.
This is 100% not the case. It is well known in general that devs want to be multiplat. Going multiplat gives you the largest consumer base to sell to. Going to one console, no matter how big, will always be a smaller market. It's simple, they don't care about gamer politics

PS5 owners are almost certainly over 50% of the AAA market. SE's problem is bad games. That said, I don't like exclusives, unless there is specific hardware involved, so this is welcome news.

@@Wakish0069 Out of my ass, but I never said anything about total players, but AAA customers. iPhone is only about 10% market share (if even that nowadays) on smartphones, but waaaay more than that when you consider the price points they release at. Same with games, there are a lot of PC gamers, most don't buy AAA games at full price (or at any price)

Lest you forget a vast majority of those PS5 systems were picked up by scalpers. And yes that exclusivity is what hurt SE's bottom line.
The only reason it didn't happen with FF7 remake was that it was available on PS4 as well as PS5. Vs rebirth and 16, one or 2 games does not justify sane individuals to drop 500 to 600 plus dollars just to play one or two games.

But Square Enix Always been a multiplatform companies also available on PC , and they even has more Nintendo exclusives than Sony exclusives. Also many of their games including Final Fantasy always sold very small number on Xbox . So it will not changed very much. And timely exclusivities will still exist for all platform.
Tbh i feel like with the exception of Nintendo that consoles are becoming more obsolete as exclusives continue to become multiplatform.

By going multiplatform Square Enix's usual expectations on game sales might be more realistic. They strangely expected their flagship series to get Red Dead Redemption 2 numbers as if this is still the 90s when their ff series on the ps1 was a big thing in gaming. Most people don't even have the ps5.

SquareEnix should have did this earlier I don't know how they thought they were gonna sell more copies of FF7rebirth then remake when the PS5 install base is still nowhere near the PS4's
Something to consider, the developers of FF Rebirth said they were able to make a better quality game because it was just for Playstation. One example they gave was the loading screens. You can go from one end of the world to the other without a loading screen.
Also the op losses of Square-Enix were not due to PS5 exclusivity, but to drop off from MMO and mobile and advertising. It's all in the financial highlights that everyone is conveniently not reading or understanding.

imo it's better if the games are available no matter what the platform is, then you can choose which platform you want to play it in
Ancient marketing between the two from the 90s, turned bad joke in 2000s, turned boring 2010s, than this current status after.
It’s better for us but not for the greedy corporations.
That's because very often, at least in the past, you would only get one of the two consoles. People didn't have money to throw out the window when one console was almost 1month rent. So if you had a PS, you'd justify buying it with its exclusives, same with Xbox. Nintendo was always cheaper so not directly in the fight but it's the same logic, if your console has better products than others, you made a 'better choice'.
And of course for manufacturers an exclusive means a certainty of selling to the fans of the game. I feel the console war today is a legacy of this and a sort of 'clans' identity rather than actual money issue though.
I prefer to game on my ps5 but I hate the idea of exclusives in the modern era it was one thing in the 90s when hardware was different but nearly everything is the same on modern consoles

I know who this is referring to and I’ve seen all of his community post rants about FF7 Rebirth. It broke Think Before You Sleep. He was *THAT* angry about Rebirth. Like, it’s fine for him and anyone else to dislike it whether it be for story and gameplay reasons, I mean the FF7 remakes and compilation are not exactly my favorite things when it comes to FF7 (I’d rather just have the original game and its message) but after posting six angry rants, I knew that at that point he just needed to take a chill pill and not let it all stress him out too much for the sake of his mental health.

Hi, PS5 only gamer here. I disavow the creature who dared to equate losing exclusivity to losing civil rights.
I’m totally in favor of multi platform releases because it strengthens communities and encourages game preservation. On the day I eventually get a gaming PC, I will finally be able to play Final Fantasy XIII once more, because my PS3 is busted.
Bring the rest of the PS3, PS4, and PS5 library to PC and Xbox as well, free Bloodborne for the masses!
As a fellow Playstation exclusive player, I second this and all statements shall be considered peer reviewed. I hope now with the only business left to attend to, I do hope a Xbox representative and second may accept the disavowed among their member for the one more dangerous left alone than in company.

To be fair if I was Sony I would stop pushing so much money onto square Enix games now that they won’t be exclusive anymore. Expect the quality of these games to drop in the near future.
Sony secured all 3 Final Fantasy 7 games. 16 only did ok, so they don't care. SE only good games is FF7 so who cares. Sony has 20 Exclusives now, but the headline is they can't catch a break?

Some games simply wouldn't exist without exclusivity; some PSVR2 titles most obviously. So it isn't always bad like he said
Exclusivity makes even less sense to do when the console is in it's late stage market value. The point is to boost console sales. The odds of pushing that is exponentially reduced when the company announces the console is about to be replaced.
Final Fantasy was the main reason why I got a PS5 in its early launch months lol, in anticipation of what were the future games at the time. Guess that’s out the window. Doubt I’ll get a PS6 at this rate if Sony keeps dropping exclusivity.
Buying a console for the sole purpose of exclusivity is a terrible idea anyway. The games will always go to PC either naturally or by emulator.

One way being multi platform can hurt the customer is if the game needs to be watered down to get it running on all systems. So for example, someone gaming on a PS5 might end up getting a worse game because the developer limited their scope so they could also get it running on Xbox Series S.
They can always add in graphic options for lower end systems. Devs are just cutting corners now to meet deadlines
At this point the hardware between consoles and PCs is so similar that platform limitations can be worked around more or less by just changing certain settings in the game. It's no longer like with PS3 where you basically had to build the game from the ground up for each platform separately if you wanted the game to utilize all the available resources on each separate platform to the maximum.

For example, the Xbox Series S is the reason why Baldurs Gate 3 came out on Xbox months late. Microsoft requires devs to support the Series S and X equally, so Larian's hands were tied until they could figure out how to get the game fully functional on Series S.
@@romaliop there are still significant differences in available feature sets, e.g. Primitive Shaders are not available on PC, and the IO system is quite different. You can often work around these differences, but it takes effort, and sometimes customer education (e.g. HDD vs SATA SSD vs PCIe SSD)
That's implying the dev try to get the graphics and performances of a hardware to the max. They very rarely do. You can count the games that use 'the full capabilities' of an hardware on your fingers really. Cost is much higher for no ROI, except maybe a nice marketing sentence like 'we use the full capabilities' that may or may not influence the sale. Actual, visible difference won't be anything except for the hundreds of gamers playing on a TV that cost five time the console.

There really shouldn't be any exclusives that involve taking 3rd party company that creates games for everyone and then pay them to only pump out games for one platform.
I'm fine with exclusives that are made by platform holders' own gaming branch to create games that take advantage of this platforms hardware and features to create unique experience, anything else is just scammy.
That's why I'm glad Square isn't selling well. They deserve this for allowing sony to keep pigeonholing them. And then they cry when their games don't meet their "expectations"

It doesn't have to be an enthusiast grade jet engine of a computer. You can stay under 2k fairly easily and reasonably as long as you're not trying to max every setting on the latest graphically impressive games.
Over time the computer easily shows it's values by how cheap games can be, as well as not paying to play online via a subscription.
Also let's not ignore the option to emulate older games for free. Older as in ps3 and older. So tons of amazing games for free.
Also can't ignore pirating when the topic of cost effective gaming is brought up. It's easier and most accessible on computer than any other platform. Really takes no brain power to pull off these days.
Plus you can do work with a computer and literally pay it off with its own services

That last tweet haha, I could care less about exclusives, I want games to be on every platform because what happens is I own a ps1-4, ds, 3ds, switch, xbox360, pc, psp, psvita and stuff, and for what? To play games that are only on those platforms, I don't care about the consoles and stuff in general, if a game I want is only on that console, I end up getting that console, when I'd much rather they are multiplatform, then whichever is most convenient for me and feels right, if the game feels more like a portable game i'd get it portable etc. some games I can't even play at home because i'm almost outside every time, portability is the way I play my games usually too but dammit I want rebirth and xvi on pc I've played every mainline and a lot of the spin-offs XD
For me it's not even that it's an exclusive, a ps5 is just slightly too expensive, I can buy one, I have the money, but I have to pay rent, and I can afford at most 1 game a month and then the rest into savings after, and this year especially has so many jrpgs that I've been a fan off since I was a kid I'm not buying a ps5 just for FF haha, sorry if you read through this Xd

I don't see how anybody could view this as a problem. I still get to play Final Fantasy like I always have, Sony still gets to make money selling the game, doesn't have to spend money for exclusivity, and everybody else gets to play the game too. Sounds like everybody involved is winning.

0:25 It's also often bad for developers. Lot's of good companies went under despite making good games because they found themselves exclusivity locked on a dead-end console.
Playstation exclusives are where games go to die. Some great games were IP's that Sony had owned as exclusives including bloodborne which will likely never see a return because it was a ghost sucked out of the box. A lot of other game devs who had similar IP's that were exclusives went on to better things when they made some money to get out from the toxic relationship with a publisher. Big publishers killing creativity and big IP's being owned by people who didn't create them is one of the leading problems in today's market.
This is a great thing I think every company should get rid of exclusivity companies would make so much more money as well as more people would buy their games without having to get their console.

I didn't think the drop in profits had anything to do with the exclusivity of FF XVI and VII, more like the nature of the games themselves. I am glad that more SE games will be coming to other platforms in the future though.
I think FFVII R3 will still be developed AS an exclusive. Due to how the leads of that project said that the reason behind the PS4/5 exclusivity for the two games respectively was to speed up dev time as much as possible. What I think they should do instead is just get the porting team involved a little earlier than when the game is done. If they can cultivate a team or two in-house that becomes adept at porting to PC they'd already be ahead of their japanese competition attempting the same.
Now there's 0 reason to buy an ps5. I only got mine for the ff7 remakes lol. Sony's UI in ps5 is atrocious through so I'm happy

With older generation consoles, such as PS3 and prior, multi-platform development literally was a huge increase in development time or a notable loss of performance optimization. And that's without factoring in user interface considerations.
With current gen consoles, such as PS5, the differences from PC architecture have lessened drastically. Development related effort should no longer be a worry or reason to advocate for exclusivity.
As long as the ports are done properly I'm happy about that.

I think exclusives are good if done by the platform holder as it gives people an incentive to buy their box.
That being said I also think the games should also be made available on PC even if it’s not day one but maybe like 3-6 months later.

I mean its true. It makes more sense to take a bit longer and make it multiplatform so you can reach the largest amount of people. Why would a game company even want to make a game for 1 console while it would work perfectly fine on other consoles and pc too? It makes more sense to release multiplatform and establish a larger playerbase. Then not only will they earn more from game sales, they also might earn loyal customers for other games they might make. But I guess in the past the money they got to make exclusives was enough, until now.
