2024 seadoo switch limited looks good, wished they put the 325 ace Rotax in the 21 foot. It really does need the higher HP with the bigger size an additional person capacity
Would love to see this same test but the 21` boat and the 170 vs. the 230 hp engine to see exactly what we gain by going up an engine with the same hull.
Ive always wanted one and watch a lot of your videos and finally bit the bullet on a 18' 2024 Sea Doo Switch Sport 230hp and cant wait pick it up next tuesday.
The solo pilot drag racing is interesting, but comes up short in depicting real world applications. Would love to see some performance vs gross weight vs load distribution runs for various models.
Your comments about turning differences port to starboard are correct but i have found that adjusting the vts greatly affects turning to port. With vts set to lowest position it is possible to get the hull to bite more allowing for a tighter turn but no where near the crisp hard over to starboard.
I'd like to see a comparison with the 13 foot Switch. I wonder if the 170 HP engine in the smaller hull would actually perform like a 21 foot Switch with the 230 HP engine.
when I was first looking at the 13 ft switch, the dealer was putting a swim platform on it. was told the rear of the boat is the same for all three seizes. sea-doo says they don't make it for the 13 (on their website). I did some research on it and was told if the boat is over 13ft, it has to have a catalytic converter on it. the swim platform adds about 2 feet making it non-compliant with EPA laws. another dealer told me they do not install them on the compact sport because it could flip the boat over upon rear boarding (not buying that). I want to put one on mine just to keep swimmers from stepping on the jet drive trying to get in the boat, there is always that one person who doesn't listen to you or doesn't care.
It will bolt on and if you have the boat on the trailer the boat could tip if you step on the swim platform. If you do add it, just add some braces and position them aft of the trailer wheels when boarding so you don't tip. Some use jack stands.
Really appreciate the Switch videos. We've had our 18-230 Cruise about a month now. The info you provide is super helpful. Btw we love the bumpers! Could use your input on mounting a transducer though. I plan to mount on the starboard toon but not sure whether to screw directly into the polytec or adhere a plate. Thoughts? Thx.
We have nor installed a transducer yet but I hear that several have. I'd probably go for 3M 5200 and a plate if I were you, that way you don't punch a hole in the boat.
@@JetBoatPilot thanks for the input. I prefer that as well, just wasn't sure about adhesion to the polytec material. Don't want anything falling off back there ;-)
Go with the garmin transducer offered through sea doo. It is internally mounted in the engine compartment. It utilizes a thin layer of coolant on the mounting plate that allows it to work through the hull without any holes created. I have had it in my 21' 230hp for two seasons now with no problems.
Thx. For the note. I already took Will's advice and adhered a piece of HDPE to the toon with 5200 and mounted the Garmin GT54 transducer. Seems to be holding. We'll find out how well it works shortly.
Thank You for doing this video! Noticed you have the premium audio on the 18 but not the 21, do you feel the helm speakers improved on your 21 foot vs the 18?
Nope, factory stereo socks! But the JL is way overpriced so we did not add it on the 21. I want to test the ExoGear system. I hear it's priced right and sounds great!
Awesome video! I'm planning on getting one next summer and have been trying to figure out what size and trim to get. This made it clear 18' with the 230hp engine! Ty 4 the vid and stay safe with Hurricane Idalia on it's way!
Great video, thank you! Question about choppy waters. A rule of thumb is the bigger the boat, the better it handles rough waters. How noticeable is the choppy water ride comfort between the 18' and 21' Switch?
Both boats handled much better in the chop than traditional v shaped hulls we've driven. We were surprised at the ride to be honest. The 21 does ride better but not so much better that I'd make my decision on that fact alone. Both felt sure footed and smooth in average bay chop here in Panama City.
We have a 21 230 cruise, if i did it again i would get the 18 230. There rarely more than 2 of us on the boat. And we have had 9 people on the boat, it was pretty slow.

Since you have tried both 21 and 18 ft. Does it make a huge safety difference between the two sizes in case of a occasional choppy water? In your opinion what's the best switch setup ratio for 1. Safety, 2. Engine power for a family boat? I have 3 little boys. Thanks.
Great video!!! I have a 21 foot 230hp. What RPM was the 21' getting? We are only seeing 7700 to 7800 rpm and about 37 to 38 mph, with 42 hours on the boat. Thanks for all the great information you share on here! As new boat owners you have helped greatly!
We're seeing about 7800 on ours as well. I think its going to eventually do 40 mph when its more broken in. These engines do better with more time on them.

Sounds like you have either an obstruction in your impeller/ wear ring or maybe even damage to your impeller. Also you could have a bad seal around your intake or in your jet pump. Something is off for sure.
I have not seen one but I can tell you that at lower speeds the outer pontoons on the Switch take on some water to give the boat more weight and stability in the rough. This makes the boat handle rough stuff better than other jets I''ve been on. You'll feel less of the pounding impact force on the Switch than other jets. I have not compared to a high end pontoon though.
We did not have access to one when we filmed this video. We shot what we had on hand. Maybe we'll get our hands on one soon. Thanks for the idea though!
I have the 170 compact sport. Tops out at about 40MPH and turns on a dime. Great for tubing, but the boat is so small you have to balance boat load or you will not get on plane. 15 hours on my engine did oil change at 10 hours
I would buy one of these if they made a 22 or 23 foot unit with twin 230hp engines, clean out ports, and different color seat/interior options than just Grey.
None. In earlier generations the superchargers had to be rebuilt at 200 hours but newer stuff is only an inspection at 200 hours.
