    The Big Potato
Built in 1977 by local potato grower Jim Mauger, the Big Potato sits off the Illawarra Highway. It was modelled on the Sebago potato and is approximately ten metres long and four metres wide. The structure was originally meant to house a Potato Information Centre but rising costs proved an obstacle. Recently the locals of Robertson have worked together to turn the surrounding land into a park.

The Southern Highlands are stunning this time of year. Funny that you should call it Jurassic, because in 1994 they discovered a tree in a still secret location, somewhere in NSW, (Wollemi Pine) that was nick-named the "Jurassic Tree" because they thought it was a direct holdover from the Jurassic period.

    • @victorsamsung2921
      @victorsamsung2921 11 месяцев назад

Yup. Wollemi Pine was thought to have been extinct for more than 2 million years or so. And having lived during the Dinosaur period. Until, in 1994 that park rangers in the Blue Mountains discovered this rare group of trees standing next to each other in this isolated grove and couldn't place it what they were looking at. Finally, after all the Botanic Gardens and floristic research institutes in the world did their research, did the Wollemi Pine come out as what people have called: "the find of the century".
Not to forget, it's been said that Steven Spielberg drew inspiration from his visits to Australia for making the setting of Jurassic Park the way it was. Likewise, James Cameron has said that his visit to the Daintree Rainforest inspired Pandora in his Avatar movie franchise.

"Malaysian" food is Sumatran food. There is nothing original about the derivative fugitives of Ma-lame-sia. Even Malay is an Indonesian gazetted ethnic group and language (textbooks are printed for it by Indonesian Dept Education (all local languages are mandatory for that language's area primary school curriculuum so the 300+ languages remain alive)) Indonesian- a kingdom called Melayu 20km from modern Jambi. Sumatra has millions more real Malays than Malaysia (12-14million- the 50% remainder are Chinese and Tamils). Malaysia was the opposite ports for the two Strait of Malacca kingdoms (based in Sumatra) of Deli and Riau-Johor (Johor was ceded to the British, Netherlands Indies got Batam and surrounding islands).
The Malaysian sultans were fugitive traitor bastards of concubines from Javanese kings, as was Singapura alias Temasek. Notice modern Singapore has zero archaeological parks of the ruined palaces and fortifications the British originally surveyed. Lee Kwan Yew had it all ripped up so his narrative of Chinese supremacy would not be challenged by obviously ancient Indonesian brickwork and stonework (look up Trowulan)- thats the remnants of part of the massive medieval city bigger than Angkor, that was capital of pre colonial Java Kingdom (larger than modern Indonesia it bordered Siam and Kampuchea (Cambodia)). Balinese nobility are Javanese- their Hindu iconography is identical to all the candi (temples) ruins in Java, especially Borobudur and Prambenan and the always been Hindu never harassed Tengger people's Pura Luhur temple on Mt Bromo. There is 4000 years of history north if Australia, even your Aborigines know this, they travelled through.

Robertson township is in the beautiful area called the Southern Highlands. Robertson is where the “Babe” movie was filmed. The sets constructed on a local farm but later demolished. The final scenes at the sheep trials were filmed at the Don Bradman cricket oval in nearby Bowral. Bradman was our most successful cricketer of his time and for many years after.

You should come over to New Zealand to see what we've got here!
The "big carrot" in Ohakune - I kid you not!
The "big L&P bottle" in Paeroa - "L&P" is "Lemon and Paeroa", a soft-drink ("soda") originally from Paeroa.
Lots of other stuff too.......... :)

While in Sydney, I’m sure you’ll do all the major to do things, but close to the city is Newtown. It’s a quirky, little boho area, that has some great food and bars. It also has a famous (If we were American obviously it would be ‘World Famous!’ Forgive me, we just got back from Texas where they even had world famous toilets!) “I have a dream” mural. At the far end of Newtown is Sydney Park. It used to be a brick pit, then a rubbish dump and now a landscaped wetlands that also has great views of the city from the hills.
Check both out on line and see what you think and if they’re worth a visit?

Hi guys, I live in Melbourne (northeatsern suburbs, near the Yarra Valley) and I have friends who live near Robertson. I have ridden my motorcycyle all through that area and the scenery is amazing. Been to the Big Ram many times and the falls you visited once. There’s an incredibly beautiful valley that you would have driven past, called Kangaroo Valley, it’s completely asurrounded by mountains, but it’s one of the most stunning places up that way. The winding road you went down is one I’ve ridden a number of times and the corners are the best part (for a Bike anyway).
You mentined snow in the Australian Alps and I learned a few years ago that apparently more snow falls there every year than on the European Alps, which is kinda mind blowin’ to me. I grew up in New Zealand and travelled the whole country from top to bottom, side to side, back in the late 70’s by motorbike, so I’ve been blessed to be able to see some stunning scenery. I have to say that whilst NZ is spectacular, the sceneary in Australia is also pretty awesome. The differences are hard to define, but both countries are simple stunning place to live in and travel through.
I love the Victorian high country and the NSW high country that borders it is easily just as beautiful. We are so lucky to have so much beauty around us. Cities are okay, but give me the country every day. Love your obvious enjoyment of Australia in your videos! Kudos especially for your attending the Melbourne ANZAC Day dawn service too!

Once you get into Sydney it's best if you try and use public transport as much as possible - the train network in Sydney is fantastic and very cheap; but driving is quite expensive since there are toll roads everywhere and you often need to pay multiple tolls to get around - they aren't easy to avoid without adding an hour to your drive. If you have Apple Pay or a credit card that supports contactless payment you can actually just tap with that rather than buy an opal pass.

Ah Goulburn. What an experience! If you have the chance, drive to Armidale and then to the coast at Coffs Harbour along Grafton Rd and Waterfall Way. The tallest waterfall in New South Wales, Wollomombi Falls is easily accessed from the road and beyond you drop into the subtropical rainforest into the Bellinger Valley. Tell Tia - Coffs has the Big Banana she MUST visit!

Tia, you have embraced Australia's cheesey love of "big" things and we in turn embrace you!
I grew up in Wollongong (which is where you kind of passed through when you stopped at Sea Cliff Brige) and no visit to Canberra or the Southern Highlands would be complete without stopping at or deliberately passing the Big Merino. If you'd passed by Lake Eucumbene and Adaminaby on the Snowy Mountains Highway, you might have seen The Big Trout!
When I saw the title of the video, I genuinely expected to see footage of you two freaking out at a Huntsman spider dropping into your lap from under the visor in the car.

I have just returned from a week in the FLEURIEU PENINSULA in South Australia and that included an all day bus tour on the last day - the driver was so well acquainted with the area, the history etc that I discovered so much. Loved lunch at the Star of Greece restaurant at Aldinga South Australia - the water was so close. Loved the commitment to caring about the land amongst the vine growers in McLaren vale. Gems wines was lovely including that they only use solar power and only use rain water. The vines had just been pruned so the sheep were let loose to eat the vegetation on the ground. Loved the history of Willunga and the many craft shops. Victor Harbor plus Granite island and Port Elliott were lovely, especially the place with a queue outside the bakery at Port Elliott in South Australia - with so many people waiting in line outside to be served inside the very popular bakery. Had lunch at the Flying fish at Port Elliott - really close to the waves. Prior to that went by plane to Mount Gambier and on the way we could see the scenery below including the Coorong. The Blue lake in Mt Gambier really was blue. Loved staying at the MAC in Portland Victoria and loved the food at the MAC. Enjoyed the journey by road to Warrnambool in Victoria, Should have gone to the Barossa in South Australia but there was not enough time. hope that includes enough hints to plan another trip to areas mentioned.
