I love that you guys show how it really is travelling on a tight budget. Which means sometimes you walk 6 miles instead of biking when people think you are crazy. Its all about the journey and the memory of that walk will forever be in your mind you really took it all in and experienced every moment.
And the chorus of the butcher birds and the Currawongs, the frenzied nectar fuelled chattering of the lorikeets, the cackling of the corellas, the metallic clanging of the Drongos…
I really like how respectful you guys are to your environment and how positive, inquisitive and good-humoured you both are. You also tend to nail the historical tidbits of the places you visit which shows you care. Your camera work and editing is first class! Long may you roam!
This is exactly why I haven't bothered to suggest anything to you for Australia. You guys seem to have a knack for doing things in your own unique way. Walking Rottnest Island.....kudos.
I came across this video/channel purely concidentally (algorithm too I guess). I'm in the cream shirt with the group on the bench staring at 4:28. What a small world ahahahah
It is wonderful to see Perth from your eyes - I love this city, have been here for 15 years :) Edit: was literally yelling at the tv when you were walking across Rotto, no one does that, glad you survived ;)
yes, you can bring your own bike with you on the ferry, or hire one on the island - they even have e-bikes these days. Nobody WALKS it! it's a small island but still way too big for walking
What you might find interesting, is the fact that, since the 1920s, we have bred and mated queen bees on Rottnest Island due to its isolation but accessibility from the mainland with the purpose of keeping a breeding population safe from exotic diseases and mites; funnily enough this leads to queen bees which have a calm temperament and can fetch around $1200 per queen to introduce to mainland hives.
Grew up in Perth and all around Freo is my old stomping ground. Haven't lived in WA for 15 years now (but visit occasionally). Thanks for taking me home!
Tia is happy and drinking her coffee. Looks like an outstanding room. Is that considered cheap for a room there???? Those 3 goals are a breeze for both of you. WOOOW I am surprised that you did not go up in this white brick lighthouse.ONLY 3 miles and counting. Crystal blue water. Ice cold coke Delicious. I am so happy you went for a swim and eating lunch. Thanks for sharing this completely awesome amazing day.
Gosh I love people touring my home town, makes me appreciate it with new fresh eyes. Your videos are really enjoyable to watch, thanks for the great content - I've subscribed!
I don't think the Perth , WA Tourist Bureau even has any footage as good as yours on Rottnest Island! Well done guys! AWESOME! You should sell your footage ect to the WA Tourism board haha Might finance your trip! I'm loving the footage of your walk. Its really interesting to hear your perceptions of the Australian birds and how they sound to you. Also you really need to wear HATS in AUSTRALIA! Good to see you've discovered ALDIS! Great groceries and other stuff store!
Love the chilled unpretentious vibe you guys have. Just on the birds on Rotto, they are technically a Raven not a crow and the noise they make is commonly pronounced as FARRRQ! which once pointed out is hard to Un-hear. We are known as Sandgropers over here as well because of the Mole cricket which inhabits the sands in and around Perth which we call Sandgropers. youll need to try find one
Thanks for showing our State in good light. Rottnest is the jewel in our crown where we all go Zen when we take our Holidays there. Your smiles and positive sprit are great boost to my day. Love your life.
You are a very sweet couple. I am happy to see you exploring and having fun. There are so many beautiful places and animals to see. Good luck with your travels and l hope you have many great memories to take home with you.
I know this is a mum thing to say, but please gets some hats to wear the sun here is brutal and the sunburn is real. Years ago there was a marketing campaign, "Slip, Slop, Slap". Slip on a shirt, Slop on some sunscreen, Slap on hat. 😎😉😛 the jingle does get stuck in your head though. Have a great visit to Oz.
I had my wedding reception at the local hotel. Lovely place with absolutely wonderful staff! Great vids, hope you guys enjoyed your trip through Perth and surrounds.. I may be a little biased because it’s my home but WA is truly of the most beautiful places on Earth ❤
Completely agree about WA. It is stunning. The type of natural beauty that would usually make a place world famous! I think the remoteness of Perth is the only thing keeping it from being like Southern California.
@@OnePackWanderers have been to S/California and agree, lovely part of the world but part of Perth’s appeal is it’s isolation. We are the 3rd most isolated capital city in the world, and the majority of us kinda like it that way (apart from the current cost of travel, lol) 😉
Rottnest is beautiful and you spent the day walking through the most exposed waste land part of it. A 10 minute walk through the awesome green tree filled village to the swimming hole known as the Basin would have been far more scenic and left you with hours of free time to enjoy.
Fair play. I’m sorry it’s so expensive here. Australia has high wages. Most backpackers here have to work their way around to afford anything. I hope you two enjoy as much as you can while here. ✌🏽
You guys would see a whole lot more if you rode bikes or even took the bus.I feel that you missed quite a few other beaches that are superb like incredibly unique.Never mind there's always the next time to see much more ! Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Yes, I wish you had hired a bike each so you could ride along the beautiful beaches instead of trekking through the middle of the island. Never mind, you still look like you enjoyed your day.

We always used to go to Rottnest in winter- beautiful, and not many people. Great for walking- made your trip many times. Also went cross country. It was VERY much cheaper then - but there was nothing like a kiosk out at Westend. Could dive for crayfish, though there are also blue ringed octopus there
Hey Guys, I used to live in Perth a few years back and loved my many visits to Rottnest (Rotto). I don't know if you remember seeing the sun dial near the ferry pier? I have long thought they should change the sundial by installing a little statue of a Quokka on top to make the shadow instead of the usual gnomon (the upright part). If they did that you could call it a "quokka dial". lol
Happy you guys made it to Rottnest island and got to meet the locals. They're such cute little animals. Birds are crows, just our crows in Australia have more attitude than elsewhere in the world 😎

Bikes would have been easier for sure. But the good thing about Rotto is the strong seabreeze most days to cool it off. So if you like hiking its only 13km long. I hope you got up to Shark Bay and beyond to Monkey Mia. Down south to Busselton Margaret River Albany Esperance...
In about 1856 my G G Grandfather landed at Fremantle and with a few friends walked to Adelaide, almost dying from lack of water and food. Then walked from Adelaide to Portland Victoria.
My friend's Dad owned that Hotel in 1970. I went to a birthday party there and all I remember was the smell of stale beer lol. I threw a Toy soldier with a parachute out of one of those room's windows. Looks nice now.
Great place to stay and great clip. Might need to put a warning to folk to take plenty of drinking water because being dehydrated or having heatstroke without a hat or umbrella on an exposed hot hike isn’t fun if no one comes by to help. Keep having fun adventures. 😊 Even the quokka stick to the coast breezes and the shade of the trees in the heat of the day and come out from beneath them when the afternoon sun and heat are gone. But good on you for doing it and sharing it.
Awesome thumbnail! We loved The Airing of the Armpits. 😂 😂 😂 Damn, but those little animals are cute!! Totally can understand why you wanted to see them! ❤️❤️
In 2017, I walked from Kingston Barracks all the way to the west end (via Geordie Bay) and then back via the lower road. I really hope you didn't get as sunburnt as I did. Having done the walk, I solidly recommend using a bike instead.
Hi guys, English gal living in Aus (for the past nearly 20 years!) and new follower of you guys. Not usually one to comment, but I love that you've experienced Perth in all its glory. Rottnest (or Rotto as the locals like to call it) is a beautiful day trip. We went on our mini honeymoon after our wedding with family and friends from our wedding. They absolutely loved it! Also when you were on the western end of the island, did you see any seals? They tend to frolic in the blue all the time and are amazing to watch! We see them probably every time we go. Hope Perth fulfilled your bucket items and enjoy the rest of Aus! :D
Your videos are top notch production wise, very informative and so friendly. I am hooked and have watched every single video. Cheers from Sydney NSW 👍🙏❤️
Thank God both didn't rent the bikes , the island pretty steep but there are bus services there which probably defeats the purpose of soaking in the sights of the nooks and corners of the beautiful island .. superb upload yet again , Thank you
Glad to see that you're enjoying yourself in Rotto and in Perth so far. Keep it up! I just returned from Japan and the last videos of yours that I saw before my trip were your Japan videos. Good to see some kind of very vague similarity between my travel path and yours even though you did stop in 3 countries after Japan before arriving in Perth. 🤣
The birds that looked like crows are Australian ravens and you are right, when their voice trails off at the end of the call into that mournful cry, it sounds like an angry cat.
Welcome to Perth! Not sure if you're still in town (although you've probably already figured this out). Every bus in the main central business district of Perth is free. There are also the free CAT buses which take you around Fremantle and Perth's main tourist spots. Handy if you are looking to save some coin! I live a few minutes up the road from Freo, it's a sweet spot! Happy travels!
The last time I was on Rottnest Island was in 1993! Unfortunately, I am quite prone to getting sea sick, so the ferry ride would not be enjoyable for me, and it has put me off visiting since.
Ah, to be young and to be able to walk a distance, those days for me are gone, but you guys, well enjoy while your legs work well, so much more to discover walking, enjoy your time in Fremantle and enjoy Rottnest.
Walking from one end of Rotto to the other...well done. There are some steep climbs through parts of it, so kudos. The crows...yes, we call them crows. They are in fact ravens I believe.
Wow! I’ve only ever biked around Rottnest! Can’t believe you walked it 😅 how cute are the quokkas? They just steal your heart ♥️ oh, also, Aussie sun hits different than the rest of the world! Be careful! I’m super fair and use a sheer zinc instead of sunblock. You can find it in a local chemist (pharmacy). Hope that helps.
So glad you enjoyed Rotto, wish you knew to avoid the centre and head to the Basin for a swim and snorkle. If you enjoyed the white sand beaches, hopefully you will get to the beaches off perth like Cottesloe (train from Freo) or get down to Dunsborough and Yallingup on the south coast near Margaret River wine region
I liked the video but remember to be careful! I've lived in Perth my whole life and work in the ambulance service. You need to be super careful about walking large distances like that and you need huge amounts of water and protection from the sun. It is very easy to underestimate the effects the heat has.

Magpies carol. They don't chortle.
Magpies warble! 🇦🇺❤️
The birds are most likely crows but we have ravens too and it’s difficult to know which is which.

Thank God both didn't rent the bikes , the island pretty steep but there are bus services there which probably defeats the purpose of soaking in the sights of the nooks and corners of the beautiful island .. superb upload yet again , Thank you
Awesome, thanks!
I love Rottnest. Thanks for showcasing my home town of Perth Western Australia 🇦🇺
where are you in perth sister in wembley down and brother in Byford
You guys should head south. The south west and south coast is definitely worth a look. Especially if you have come all this way
Glad to see that you're enjoying yourself in Rotto and in Perth so far. Keep it up! I just returned from Japan and the last videos of yours that I saw before my trip were your Japan videos. Good to see some kind of very vague similarity between my travel path and yours even though you did stop in 3 countries after Japan before arriving in Perth. 🤣
Next time come to the mid north coast around the Port Macquarie area
Really nice video thank you .
Good morning, I hope all is going well with your trip down under 😊 Im wondering when the next video is coming! Starting to have withdrawals 🤣🤣
All is well 😊 Working on the next video now! Should be done by between midnight and 1am Perth time (I think that’s the same as Vietnam)!
@@OnePackWanderers 👌🙌 Great thanks for the heads-up😉
The birds that looked like crows are Australian ravens and you
are right, when their voice trails off at the end of the call into
that mournful cry, it sounds like an angry cat.
Enjoyed the trip. Come down Walpole way and see them in the wild
The last time I was on Rottnest Island was in 1993! Unfortunately, I am quite prone to getting sea sick, so the ferry ride would not be enjoyable for me, and it has put me off visiting since.
Hey, if going to Adelaide- do that between march 3rd and 19th as it is festival season... so many festivals
Ah, to be young and to be able to walk a distance, those days for me are gone, but you guys, well enjoy while your legs work well, so much more to discover walking, enjoy your time in Fremantle and enjoy Rottnest.
I don't understand how you guys don't have 1mio+ subs yet. Love you so much ❤
Glad you found such a nice hotel guys. Really enjoying your channel
I love the smiling quacka.
Definitely gotta explore more of Australia’s beaches while we’re here 🙂
FREMANTLE or FREO as we call it is way to go! Awesome place to hang!
Rottnest Island beaches are by far the best in Australia followed closely by Meelup beach. Both in Western Australia
Hi, thanks for another nice video. Happy travel.....
Thanks for the video, you both are my favorite youtubers, I always look forward to new bloopers
I liked the video but remember to be careful! I've lived in Perth my whole life and work in the ambulance service. You need to be super careful about walking large distances like that and you need huge amounts of water and protection from the sun. It is very easy to underestimate the effects the heat has.
I'm glad you made it to at least one of the beaches
Shame it was such an overcast grey day. I wouldn't expect that in Feb. Seems some blue sky came later on though.
