BBQ chicken and chips from your local shop is usually very economical for me. A whole BBQ chicken a salad of my choice and some fresh bread and lunch and dinner is done for 2-3 days. For about 30 dollars for 2 meals a day over 3 days equals 5 dollars a meal, and a good meal at that! Thank me later.😅
We didn't go up the Bluff, because it was bloody freezing outside and we decided to head down to Albany. When we got to Perth, we did drive to Wave Rock which was awesome 😊
Bluff Knoll is pretty much the only place in WA that gets snow... and that rarely... about once every 5 years or so.... lol. But the weather around it can be treacherous, especially when you're not used to mountainous conditions. I'd say take care and go prepared but you've already been.. so there's that. Don't forget, you've only seen a portion of WA so far... I was 21 before I managed to get out of state. I'd been north to Broome, south to Albany and inland as far as Kalgoorlie, which is like travelling from Melbourne to Townsville and inland to Broken Hill on the east coast without going outside the state.
You're doing a better job of making me want to visit WA than any government tourism campaign. And you're right to be wary of driving at dusk, it's when the bouncy wildlife is at its most active.
South West WA just doesn't get enough air time. The coast from Perth to Augusta is far more populated than you tend to see, as there are 3 cities (Mandurah, Bunbury and Busselton) on the way down and many towns and farming communities in between. The highway has now been constructed to bypass driving through all of these cities to make the driver much more faster and efficient so that you can reach your chosen destination quicker, but you can always choose to drive through each of them if you don't want to miss out. There is a lot to explore between Busselton and Margaret River mainly in terms of wineries, breweries, fresh produce, forests, caves, surf beaches etc. A lot of Australia can look fairly similar but WA is very bio diverse. Most natives used in gardens come from there originally.

Australia is hugeeeeeeeeee. I spend like 8 month travelling and doing some farm work around australia. That was one of my best experience in my life. wish i can go back and enjoy all the things i've done with my mates. now im sitting here doing some boring stuff from 8 to 5 pm. Damn the good old days !

I first came across your vlog when you hit Australia and as a WA resident I am enjoying your series so much. It's a flattering coverage accompanied by your upbeat personal inputs as tourists. Thank you and keep up the good work.
I remember hiking up Bluff Knoll a couple of years ago with a group. It was absolutely magical… as it was a slightly cloudy day and you could see the clouds shooting up into the sky as they were channeled by the cliffs and wind. I’d lay on my stomach and dangle my head and arms off the side of the cliff and let the clouds hit my face. It was amazing. We saw a couple of eagles and roos. One of the best days of my life. Not 3 weeks later, it snowed up on top of Bluff Knoll for the first time in decades. I sadly wasn’t there for that, but one of my friends was, and now their snowman is on google images :D I’ve now moved to Victoria, a couple of kilometres out from the CBD (okay it’s about 60km… close enough). Man, the thing I miss most about WA is the beaches. As you know, the pure white sand and crystal turquoise waters are something I’ll treasure forever.
South West WA actually gets quite a lot of rain (more than many parts of Victoria annually - where it rains more frequently around summer and has lower temperatures) but its mainly through the winter months when big weather systems move through regularly and it can rain for days and weeks. That's probably where the comparison to Arizona varies a bit, as its definitely not desert and the farms down there are highly productive. So while it is still fairly green now, it would be much, much greener in winter. Its definitely not desert country but things just get a bit dry after a long, hot summer. Our leafy native plants are much more well adapted to dry spells than to similar plants from other continents. The drive you are doing just skirts around the Wheat Belt, which is further inland. The crops from this area feeds much of Australia and Asia, and you definitely need lots of water at the right time of the year to grow them. So the contrast between summer and winter in SW WA tends to be quite stark. I grew up on a farm near Busselton and we'd spend every night in winter rugged up, sitting in front of an open fire place. It is probably hard to imagine in the middle of summer. Believe it or not, the summit of Bluff Knoll that you climbed in the video regularly has snow in winter - use Google images to see what it looks like and you might be surprised!

Those tall, spikey, weird looking plants at 2:53 and 16:58 are Kingia australis, a genus comprising of a single species, endemic to South-West Western Australia, their growth rate is so slow that the size of those individual plants would make them several hundred years old.
That Stirling Range was amazing! Makes me want to go. Albany looked amazing too, it all did, even the road, towards the end, lol. Im so glad you enjoy the open spaces, without too many buildings, that's so nice to witness. You two seem like soulmates. From a North Queenslander.

i was a kid visiting there is the mid 70s, as we approched the town the smell from the whaling station was soo strong... you could smell it from 3-4 km away
I love that you're enjoying our country so much. I have some advice though, for when you're crossing the Nullarbor. If for any reason your car breaks down - Don't leave the vehicle. Wait for help., someone will find you. Also take as much water as you think you'll need plus 20%. Side note: Nullarbor is latin for "no trees".
Nice to see you got proper hats with wide brims, you'll be grateful for that, your starting to get an understanding, but once you get across the Nullarbor you'll really have a good understanding of the meaning of remote, also it's not a bad idea to get a 20L fuel can and keep some emergency fuel in the boot of your car, running out of fuel in outback Australia is not fun. Also try to spend a night in the desert on your crossing of the Nullarbor, the stars are worth it, especially if you can pick a no moon night (you don't want all the light pollution from the moon)
Yes extra petrol (gas) water and oil for the car, and water, food for yourselves. I've crossed the a few time check the cars water 💧, food, and oil 🛢 every day.
That track you were sitting next to near the wind farm is part of the Bibbulmun Track that runs from Kalamunda in the east of Perth to Albany, and is 1,003kms long. It passes near to where I live in Mundaring and is a 6-week bucket list to do! There's also the Munda Bidda cycle track that runs parallel to it. Next time guys 🙃

I love that you climbed Bluff Knoll ... I climbed it with my 9 yr old son in January, but the clouds were so thick we couldn't see a thing from the top ... You gave us the view we didn't get!!! Thank you ❤
Bluff Knoll is the only place in Western Australia that VERY occasionally on a very cold day can get a tiny bit of snow on top. But its usually gone within hours.
I'm Western Australian, and I do love it here - But if you're on a Road, and it has Bitumen on it, you're not really in the middle of nowhere. Only possibly Mongolia can compete with us in sheer number of places that could be described as middle of nowhere. Curiously though, nowhere is never really nowhere. I was working on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert once, on a bland Plain with Spinifex as far as the eye could see, and once came across a Botanist who excitedly told me that Plain had 27 separate Species of Spinifex. I think I had samples of the prickles of all 27 Species in my socks at the time, so I wasn't really impressed, but there's always something for someone if you know where to look.

Your videos about WA are making me inspired. For us folks on the more populated east coast, WA is amazing but annoying to get to. I am always going between our homes in Australia and Japan and find the trip straight down to be super easy. But across to Perth while roughly 1/2 the travel time as Japan, is not 1/2 the price and travelling to Perth there is Jet lag, but travelling to Tokyo there is almost none. But it’s hard to beat WA’s pristine coastline, lack of human interference and wide open spaces. WA is over three times the size of Texas (almost double Alaska, over 8 times Arizona) with a population 1/3rd of Arizona.
Were you aware that after the coffee and cake scene, you showed some quick shots of the environment, including new growth after a bushfire? Those black trees covered in a fuzzy layer of green were an example of what Australia’s bush looks like a few weeks after a bushfire has charred everything!

The reason the scenery reminds you of back home is we used to be connected to America back in the Gondwana days, hence our rock is the same as yours... like the rock in Tasmania is exactly the same as Arizona. The only difference is vegetation and wildlife thanks to millions of years of continental plates drifting across the earth's crust! Glad you enjoyed my backyard, after moving to Albany from the jungles of Far North Queensland I do find it hard to leave...
Good advice to not drive around dusk and dawn. Kangaroos seem to be most active at those times and would leave some big dings in "Bluey" if you were to meet up with them. Can I also advise some good hiking boots for your bushwalks. You're bound to meet some Joe Blakes at some stage and sandals aren't much protection. Safe travels to you both.
So glad you’re loving WA!! I’m very impressed at how much time you’ve spent here. So many tourists just want to see the east coast. WA is beautiful- the south west is gorgeous. The north is great too, but kind of the wrong direction for you. Also WA beaches are STUNNING. I’m glad you’re enjoying them. :)
What a great watch. So fun to to watch your joy of discovering Australia. If you thought that road was desolate and remote , you ain't seen nothing yet. A good beach vista never gets boring, so don`t worry none and keep them coming. But you won`t have much chance of seeing beaches when you start to head over to South Oz. In fact you will see a whole lot less of any thing till you get to South Oz .
Brings back lots of memories. I did a road trip from Vic in the late 1970s, then after living in Perth (in the 2000s) a couple of years I did a road trip to get my car to Armidale in NSW. It is a big drive, but there is so much to see! I just loved that the big dot on the map that represents a "town" is just a single roadhouse! A bit more developed these days, but a great experience. Nice to see you both having as much fun as I and my girlfriend did in the 70s!
You guys should drive all the way to Darwin, via Brisbane and Cairns. Thank you for showing how beautiful Australia is, that it is not all dry and barren.

In the last few days I have binged watched all of you episodes. You guys are great to watch,what a fantastic channel you have made . Things to try . Meat pie, hamburger with a lot, Chicko roll,, a custard tart, Apple danish, vanilla slice, Lamingtons, Tim Tams,a Tim tam slam with coffee. Bundaberg ginger beer , solo(lemon soft drink) and Vegemite Have a safe and fantastic journey through Australia. I wish you had longer here as this country is so big and there is so much to see . ❤
If you end up travelling up towards the State of Queensland it’s got the most amazing Islands called Stadbroke (Straddie) and Moreton and even more crazy stays. Stradbroke is officially the one place if you want to see heaps of dingoes 👍
So glad you guys are loving our country and got hats! Open space with nothing is our default since most of us are clustered around the coast or a few hundred kilometers in. It would take 30 years to visit all the beaches not 20. Australia is a beach. :D
Bluff Knoll is also known for being one if not only place in WA to have snow very occasionally, somewhere else you may want to visit around 3 hours north of the Bluff is Wave Rock.

Hi guys, I'm absolutely loving your posts. 40 years ago when we finished our nursing training, my husband and I, plus another couple we were travelling with, climbed Bluff Knoll. At that time, there wasn't a lovely made track. It was just a track straight up, so there was a lot of climbing involved. Halfway up a bus load of teenagers on a school trip pulled into the car park. They literally piled out of the bus and ran up the track, passing us, reaching the top and then passing us again as we reached the top, and they ran back down again. Very depressing as we were only in our twenties. Amazing views. We sat up there for such a long time before climbing back down again. Keep up the good work with your posts. And enjoy your travels. You guys are great, you are having fun and exploring the greatest country on earth. Not biased much. I just did a drive (January) in my yaris from Perth to darwin via South Australia. (Couldn't go north due to the Kimberley floods). You are in for a great drive. Esperance is pretty, nice coast road north, short drive with great views of the beaches and islands. Plenty of places to stop and beach walk. Straight roads? Nullarbor. You will see. The Nullarbor gets close up to the ocean and you can get to see The Great Australian Bight, sensational views. I turned left at Port Augusta. Btw, in Port Augusta, foods a bit hit and miss. I had a works burger at The Hut Takeaway, Awesome. Have fun.
Hi, I just found your channel and have been watching your WA Series. I am glad you are enjoying it I grew up in Albany and seeing all those places brough t back so many memories and so many other places you could see but there is never enough time. where are you guys planning on travelling, I live in Kalgoorlie now and FYI they say it is home of the richest square mile on earth (not sure if its true but that's what they say (its the super pit) it is a site to see also what blows my mind every time I see them are the stars if you go out of town somewhere away from the lights there are so many stars it amazes me all the time I use an app called planets to locate the milky way its a really good app if you are looking for planets as well. but you also have so much more to see here in AUS, the 90 mile straight if you are heading that way just to name one. but be careful of the roo's they can jump out or nowhere but also be nowhere to be seen. Enjoy the land down under.
It's cool if theres clouds when you climb it, you get to walk through them and get a bit soaked and they also hit some currents near the top of the lower peaks. Good job getting up though, long trek.
I’ve loved watching you guys for a long time! I just hope you know that you’re in the SUPER empty bit of Australia and that there is heaps more to do (heaps more food, heaps of cities, heaps of populated nature spots to see, heaps of places to make content, especially Melb, Sydney, Byron Bay, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Cairns and Port Douglas! Queensland the NT are so different. They are super tropical and a lot more populated and also have plenty of important Indigenous cultural information and sites. You’re enjoying a beautiful and desolate part of Australia but there is much more to see as well!
Enjoying the journey so far guys. Cheveyo probs has a few of us locals going ' wait until you hit the Nullabor' then you'll understand isolation and flat. As mentioned, take care at dawn & dusk this is when local wildlife is about. Also, emus are idiots, they go one way then zag right in front, slow down around that lot.

Oh... and you might not realise it, but there are no flights over SW WA, so we have no contrails ever. And the wind comes from Antarctica mostly, so the air is incredibly clear and the moon is soon bright. And you can actually see the centre of the milky way on dark nights
You'll be pleased to know that it can snow on the Stirling Ranges, right where you are. I was on top of Mt Clare (west of where you are) and a earth tremor, 5.2 richter scale (2018)
If you get a chance while crossing the Nullarbor I recommend checking out the very touristy ocean views of the Great Australian Bight (obviously), but also as interesting IMHO are the many caves dotted across the Nullarbor. Some caves are not signposted and hidden from tourist ... so ask locals how to find them. There are also some interesting ghost towns worth exploring well off the highway.
There are many places to see in Esperance. Lucky Bay has 'tame' Kangaroos if they are still there. Climb Frenchman's Peak. Not sure which way you are going after Esperance but you have to see Kalgoorlie/Boulder. There is a free 24 hour camping site at the bottom of Hannan Street, at the Vietnam memorial (large flag flying) See the Superpit, Two-up just north of town. Mining museums. There is a lot to see.

Top tip try and stay in caravan parks where you can to save some cash. Permanent vans / cabins can go for cheap :)

Those tall, spikey, weird looking plants at 2:53 and 16:58 are Kingia australis, a genus comprising of a single species, endemic to South-West Western Australia, their growth rate is so slow that the size of those individual plants would make them several hundred years old.

i was a kid visiting there is the mid 70s, as we approched the town the smell from the whaling station was soo strong... you could smell it from 3-4 km away
I love that you're enjoying our country so much. I have some advice though, for when you're crossing the Nullarbor. If for any reason your car breaks down - Don't leave the vehicle. Wait for help., someone will find you. Also take as much water as you think you'll need plus 20%. Side note: Nullarbor is latin for "no trees".
Nice to see you got proper hats with wide brims, you'll be grateful for that, your starting to get an understanding, but once you get across the Nullarbor you'll really have a good understanding of the meaning of remote, also it's not a bad idea to get a 20L fuel can and keep some emergency fuel in the boot of your car, running out of fuel in outback Australia is not fun.
Also try to spend a night in the desert on your crossing of the Nullarbor, the stars are worth it, especially if you can pick a no moon night (you don't want all the light pollution from the moon)
Yes extra petrol (gas) water and oil for the car, and water, food for yourselves. I've crossed the a few time check the cars water 💧, food, and oil 🛢 every day.
That track you were sitting next to near the wind farm is part of the Bibbulmun Track that runs from Kalamunda in the east of Perth to Albany, and is 1,003kms long. It passes near to where I live in Mundaring and is a 6-week bucket list to do! There's also the Munda Bidda cycle track that runs parallel to it. Next time guys 🙃

I love that you climbed Bluff Knoll ... I climbed it with my 9 yr old son in January, but the clouds were so thick we couldn't see a thing from the top ... You gave us the view we didn't get!!! Thank you ❤
You may have a record of youngest person to climb Bluff Knoll. I knew someone in the early 1980s that at ten was the youngest person to climb it then.
Bluff Knoll is the only place in Western Australia that VERY occasionally on a very cold day can get a tiny bit of snow on top. But its usually gone within hours.
I'm Western Australian, and I do love it here - But if you're on a Road, and it has Bitumen on it, you're not really in the middle of nowhere. Only possibly Mongolia can compete with us in sheer number of places that could be described as middle of nowhere. Curiously though, nowhere is never really nowhere. I was working on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert once, on a bland Plain with Spinifex as far as the eye could see, and once came across a Botanist who excitedly told me that Plain had 27 separate Species of Spinifex. I think I had samples of the prickles of all 27 Species in my socks at the time, so I wasn't really impressed, but there's always something for someone if you know where to look.

Need a good coffee whilst you’re in Esperance then go to Cloud Eleven

Your videos about WA are making me inspired. For us folks on the more populated east coast, WA is amazing but annoying to get to.
I am always going between our homes in Australia and Japan and find the trip straight down to be super easy. But across to Perth while roughly 1/2 the travel time as Japan, is not 1/2 the price and travelling to Perth there is Jet lag, but travelling to Tokyo there is almost none.
But it’s hard to beat WA’s pristine coastline, lack of human interference and wide open spaces.
WA is over three times the size of Texas (almost double Alaska, over 8 times Arizona) with a population 1/3rd of Arizona.
Oh those 2000 steps. Did this when I was 8 years old when there was no steps and again at 56 when there were thousands.

Were you aware that after the coffee and cake scene, you showed some quick shots of the environment, including new growth after a bushfire? Those black trees covered in a fuzzy layer of green were an example of what Australia’s bush looks like a few weeks after a bushfire has charred everything!
Yea we have seen evidence of bush fires all over the place. AZ looks very similar after a fire.
I hope Pink Lake is pink for you guys. It was a dull green when I visited.

The reason the scenery reminds you of back home is we used to be connected to America back in the Gondwana days, hence our rock is the same as yours... like the rock in Tasmania is exactly the same as Arizona. The only difference is vegetation and wildlife thanks to millions of years of continental plates drifting across the earth's crust! Glad you enjoyed my backyard, after moving to Albany from the jungles of Far North Queensland I do find it hard to leave...
You need to go to Tasmania and go to The Nutt and take the chairlift up. the scenery is stunning , as are the BEACHES !!
Went to Cape Arid and Cape Le Grand National Parks East of Esperance are my favourite beaches in Australia
Good advice to not drive around dusk and dawn. Kangaroos seem to be most active at those times and would leave some big dings in "Bluey" if you were to meet up with them.
Can I also advise some good hiking boots for your bushwalks. You're bound to meet some Joe Blakes at some stage and sandals aren't much protection. Safe travels to you both.
I ran up bluff knoll in 83, Not sure all the paths were in place took about 2hrs
surprised you didn't drop in at the Porongarups on the way back to the coast.
So glad you’re loving WA!! I’m very impressed at how much time you’ve spent here. So many tourists just want to see the east coast. WA is beautiful- the south west is gorgeous. The north is great too, but kind of the wrong direction for you.

What a great watch. So fun to to watch your joy of discovering Australia. If you thought that road was desolate and remote , you ain't seen nothing yet. A good beach vista never gets boring, so don`t worry none and keep them coming. But you won`t have much chance of seeing beaches when you start to head over to South Oz. In fact you will see a whole lot less of any thing till you get to South Oz .

Brings back lots of memories. I did a road trip from Vic in the late 1970s, then after living in Perth (in the 2000s) a couple of years I did a road trip to get my car to Armidale in NSW. It is a big drive, but there is so much to see!
I just loved that the big dot on the map that represents a "town" is just a single roadhouse! A bit more developed these days, but a great experience. Nice to see you both having as much fun as I and my girlfriend did in the 70s!

If you end up travelling up towards the State of Queensland it’s got the most amazing Islands called Stadbroke (Straddie) and Moreton and even more crazy stays. Stradbroke is officially the one place if you want to see heaps of dingoes 👍
When you drive across the Nullarbor Plain road there is a stretch of road for 90 miles without one bend.
Those beaches are insanely beautiful! So amazing to see you guys traveling the world❤
So glad you guys are loving our country and got hats! Open space with nothing is our default since most of us are clustered around the coast or a few hundred kilometers in.

Bluff Knoll is also known for being one if not only place in WA to have snow very occasionally, somewhere else you may want to visit around 3 hours north of the Bluff is Wave Rock.

Hi guys, I'm absolutely loving your posts. 40 years ago when we finished our nursing training, my husband and I, plus another couple we were travelling with, climbed Bluff Knoll. At that time, there wasn't a lovely made track. It was just a track straight up, so there was a lot of climbing involved. Halfway up a bus load of teenagers on a school trip pulled into the car park. They literally piled out of the bus and ran up the track, passing us, reaching the top and then passing us again as we reached the top, and they ran back down again. Very depressing as we were only in our twenties. Amazing views. We sat up there for such a long time before climbing back down again.

You guys are great, you are having fun and exploring the greatest country on earth. Not biased much. I just did a drive (January) in my yaris from Perth to darwin via South Australia. (Couldn't go north due to the Kimberley floods). You are in for a great drive. Esperance is pretty, nice coast road north, short drive with great views of the beaches and islands. Plenty of places to stop and beach walk.
Straight roads? Nullarbor. You will see. The Nullarbor gets close up to the ocean and you can get to see The Great Australian Bight, sensational views. I turned left at Port Augusta. Btw, in Port Augusta, foods a bit hit and miss. I had a works burger at The Hut Takeaway, Awesome.

I just found your channel and have been watching your WA Series. I am glad you are enjoying it I grew up in Albany and seeing all those places brough t back so many memories and so many other places you could see but there is never enough time. where are you guys planning on travelling, I live in Kalgoorlie now and FYI they say it is home of the richest square mile on earth (not sure if its true but that's what they say (its the super pit) it is a site to see also what blows my mind every time I see them are the stars if you go out of town somewhere away from the lights there are so many stars it amazes me all the time I use an app called planets to locate the milky way its a really good app if you are looking for planets as well. but you also have so much more to see here in AUS, the 90 mile straight if you are heading that way just to name one. but be careful of the roo's they can jump out or nowhere but also be nowhere to be seen. Enjoy the land down under.

It's cool if theres clouds when you climb it, you get to walk through them and get a bit soaked and they also hit some currents near the top of the lower peaks. Good job getting up though, long trek.

I’ve loved watching you guys for a long time! I just hope you know that you’re in the SUPER empty bit of Australia and that there is heaps more to do (heaps more food, heaps of cities, heaps of populated nature spots to see, heaps of places to make content, especially Melb, Sydney, Byron Bay, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Cairns and Port Douglas! Queensland the NT are so different. They are super tropical and a lot more populated and also have plenty of important Indigenous cultural information and sites. You’re enjoying a beautiful and desolate part of Australia but there is much more to see as well!

Enjoying the journey so far guys. Cheveyo probs has a few of us locals going ' wait until you hit the Nullabor' then you'll understand isolation and flat. As mentioned, take care at dawn & dusk this is when local wildlife is about. Also, emus are idiots, they go one way then zag right in front, slow down around that lot.
Bluff Knoll is the only place in WA that experiences snow. About once every 3 years for no more than a day and no more than 2 or 3cm. And it's news every time!
Oh... and you might not realise it, but there are no flights over SW WA, so we have no contrails ever. And the wind comes from Antarctica mostly, so the air is incredibly clear and the moon is soon bright. And you can actually see the centre of the milky way on dark nights
You'll be pleased to know that it can snow on the Stirling Ranges, right where you are. I was on top of Mt Clare (west of where you are) and a earth tremor, 5.2 richter scale (2018)
Our beaches are great here too in South Australia with a state population of only 1.6m.Mostly in Adelaide, I think you'll love it
If you get a chance while crossing the Nullarbor I recommend checking out the very touristy ocean views of the Great Australian Bight (obviously), but also as interesting IMHO are the many caves dotted across the Nullarbor. Some caves are not signposted and hidden from tourist ... so ask locals how to find them. There are also some interesting ghost towns worth exploring well off the highway.
There are many places to see in Esperance. Lucky Bay has 'tame' Kangaroos if they are still there. Climb Frenchman's Peak. Not sure which way you are going after Esperance but you have to see Kalgoorlie/Boulder. There is a free 24 hour camping site at the bottom of Hannan Street, at the Vietnam memorial (large flag flying) See the Superpit, Two-up just north of town. Mining museums. There is a lot to see.
