During covid we had pretty strict lockdowns, and also there were substantial stretches of time - much of 2020 and 2021 where it was basically illegal to travel between states - you had to apply for special permission from the government for very extenuating circumstances. A lot of people, especially Grey Nomads, were trapped for months. WA and the NT were some of the strictest, I wouldn't be surprised if that killed the alien caravan park.

Wycliffe Well was flooded out 3 times over the span of two months which is what lead to it's "temporary" closure. However seeing this footage and reading a few reviews online of how it's been ransacked I don't like it's chances of actually reopening. It's a shame. I live in Alice and drive north a few times a year for work, this has always been one of my favorite stops, it's so quirky.

Cut through to kalgoorlie - added bonus: biggest manmade hole in the ground in the world - then cut north to Geraldton, kalbarri, port gregory (pink lake!), the cliffs, and all places north. To be honest, youre about 6 weeks too early for the best of the north west anyway. Theres a small window - as the deserts heat up for summer from around october/november the coastal wind starts blowing a gale on large parts of the coast 24/7.
But heres another bonus - that would put you smack on time to see the wildflower season in kalbarri, which is spectacular, since wa has (from memory) more wildflower species than the rest of the world put together.
Everyone does wave out there but also, some people are touching their windscreens, because they believe that if a rock kicks up and hits their windscreen having their fingers on it will stop the windscreen from shattering. I know people who have an unshakeable belief in that one.

You previously considered and even asked if you should do a detour to see Uluru, so that was a potential option for you a week or so ago. Before you leave Uluru, check the roads up north again, if the bridge and roads are open by the time you're done in the red centre, you might be able to get back to doing your giant lap. It'll add an extra week or so onto your adventure, but going back to Perth via Adelaide is going to do that to you anyway.

If you ever get back to Australia and buy a decent four wheel drive then the Northern part of Western Australia is probably one of the best places in Australia to go adventuring with a four wheel drive. One could spend months in that vast area alone and still only see a small portion of the available natural attractions. Probably have to be more careful about choosing the time of the year to visit there than most elsewhere in Australia as the entire landscape as well as access or exit travelling conditions can change rapidly and sometimes catastrophically after the big wet, moonsoon rains and cyclones start to arrive.

You did not fail, this beautiful and vast continent just showed her occasionally unforgiving hand. You are experiencing the real Australia. Her vastness means few roads and her occasional unforgiving nature means those roads and bridges will be washed away. This story of apparent “failure” has been told many times before and will be told many times again by others. Well done for adapting and moving forward. Now for the postcard - this postcard actually means a lot to me, as I used to live on Hamilton Island for work for three years. Every Saturday morning I would catch the ferry across to Whitehaven and spend the morning on the beach as part of getting away from the island and feeling as though I was in paradise! Strongly recommend, if you're going to go down south through to Adelaide; stop at Coober Pedy - it's an opal mining town and tourist destination, aside from the fascinating opal mining stuff the town is famous for being completely underground (due to extreme weather). If you've ever wanted to know what it's like to live like a fantasy Dwarf this is your chance.
This is also your chance to visit Nitmiluk Gorge if you stop in Katherine - it's a very, very famous and picturesque place.
Huge bummer you didn't get to finish (if you have time left on your visas maybe once you get back to Perth via the Nullarbor you can go up the west coast? the landscape in the top half of WA is quite extraordinary.) but in any event yet another reason to come back again for Australia Round 2.
I mentioned this in the comments to your last video, but I don't know if you read them more than a day or so after posting - that water hole you visited a couple days back in Litchfield national park where everyone was swimming and you mentioned how it must be safe from Crocs? They just had to close it down because someone got bitten by a 2m croc, so you got in to see it just in time

Going south means that you can go to the opal mining town of Coober Pedy where people live underground, and you will be able to stay in underground accommodation. The drive to Alice Springs is beautiful. Ayers Rock is okay. I prefer the Olgas. Now you know why a 4WD is advisable in the northwest. Gives you more options if a road gets closed, but it also gets you into gorgeous out of the way places. 2WD is only good for the main roads. Had you stayed north Kakadu would have been beautiful.

Hopefully you can come back in the dry season (so you can swim with mantarays, whales and whale sharks at Coral Bay / Exmouth for starters) and see it at a more thorough and leisurely pace. You didnt fail. Alice and Uluru were obviously calling you. Youve got this far maybe checkout Coober Pedy as well now. Gee you were brave in the ghost town. Bit disappointing, to know tho there are people just vandalising and busting up whats been left in this abandoned town.
    Stay safe 🤗

This route is something that you had contemplated before and so don't be too bumped out. You'll get to see Uluru, one of the most famous landmarks of Australia. What saddens me is the realisation of your Australia roadtrip coming to an end. I only wished you had a longer visa stay so that you can explore every nook and cranny of this lovely country. I really enjoyed (and still enjoying) your roadtrip and have never missed a single video.
I've been following your channel since the time you visited Kuala Lumpur, the city that I currently reside in. I wish you guys all the best and safe travels always! 🙏👍💪🥰

As many have already said. YOU DID NOT FAIL! If there is anyone who has driven around in country Australia and has not had to backtrack hundreds of kilometres because some creek or road has flooded they have never actually driven around in country Australia. Most people have had to have their whole vacation plans changed by floods, cyclones, fires, droughts, dust storms or some kind of wildlife plague. That is just part and parcel of living in the great brown land. STRAYA! You travelled halfway around the world, bought an old, second-hand Toyota Corolla (with the wind down windows - excellent choice) and drove it around more of Australia than most Australians will ever see. YOU DID NOT FAIL!!
I have driven around most of Australia and you've been to places that I haven't and discovered lots of things that I never knew existed. You've been further than Burke and Wills, two of our greatest and most celebrated explorers, reached places that they never did and they died in the attempt. Don't die. That video would be depressing. Throughout all of this, the two of you have been impossibly cute and unerringly positive. Honestly, you are two of the most inspiring and uplifting people I have ever seen, and we should give you a job with the Australian Tourism Commission to make promotional videos for us to attract other impossibly cute and unerringly positive people to this country as tourists, although we should make them shop at Coles or Woolies, not Aldi. We want their cash. Tight-arses!
YOU DID NOT FAIL!!! You even made The Big Turd (Potato) look interesting. When you come back next time, you can try to do the big lap in the other direction and see all The Big Things you missed this time. I can't believe you didn't do a video at The Big Pineapple in Queensland. So Wrong. We won't tell you about swimming with dolphins in Broome you missed out on, because of that. At least you can play the golf course this time as you drive back across the Nullarbor. YOU DID NOT FAIL!!!! Unless, of course, you fail to check out the mead from Chateau Dorrien Winery in Tanunda, as you pass back near Adelaide.

The head of the bight is hosting the whales - up from Antartica giving birth and a bucket list thing I havent done yet!
Whyalla is hosting the (worlds ?) largest cuttlefish breeding event - you can swim in with them or do a glass bottom boat tour!! I kid you not. Worth a look, fascinating nature, recently protected from fishing industry and pulling the tourists ❤
And the tip of the Eyre peninsula is cold but beautiful and nearly deserted this time of the year - that could be your new lap, of the EP!

You may not have done the lap, but you've covered more of the country than most Aussie's ever will. I had heard of that alien place, didn't realise they'd shut down, I guess it was the pandemic that stopped travellers for months (I will add that I've never understood the urge to destroy stuff like that).
Hopefully you get to see Uluru with some water running off it, they've had a lot of rain recently, that's a rare sight to see for anyone.

It's always disappointing when plans don't work out because of stuff you can't control, but don't blame yourselves, you didn't fail, the road failed you!. On the plus side you get to visit Alice Springs and Uluru / Kata Tutja and maybe King's Canyon too. We did the drive from Darwin to Adelaide ourselves a few years back and it's an amazing journey with so many interesting places to see in the red centre. You must stop in Coober Pedy too, the landscape around there is just unreal and there's old opal mines you can visit and even noodle for opals yourself and half the town lives in underground houses.

So what you guys are experiencing here with your "national diversion" to Perth via other routes is what I lived with for all my adult life teaching up north in Western Australia. You would plan a holiday for 6 months or so and one lousy night of rain would see all these plans go to hell. I have spent weeks at some places waiting for waters to drop and for bridges to be repaired - so absolutely the right decision. Once you get over that disappointment though you'll make all new memories and share those as is your journey now. There's so much to see on the way back to Perth that there will be heaps of new fresh content for you guys to show. Just no more "GIANT" stuff though please!!! Haha just joking. Love your channel - so nice and fresh and as an Aussie nice to see your take on things downunder. All the best - - your videos make my day!🚙🚙🚙🚙

Last time I drove to Brisbane (from Darwin) I stopped at Renner Springs the first night. I filled up with fuel, started the car to run air con for the dogs while I ducked inside to pay. One of the dogs, my little turd of a chihuahua, went nuts when someone walked by my car. He jumped around and barked and carried on like a pork chop and stood on the door lock. Locked all the doors, keys in the ignition, car running. Took over an hour to find someone that could break into my car for me. That was not a good start to the day... it could only go up from there.
As many others have said, you didn't 'fail'. A 'failure' would have been not checking the road conditions and getting to Fitzroy Crossing and having to turn back then. Enjoy your diversion.
