I have several Quadcopters, some are more expensive and a couple are less expensive. In my opinion the Hubsan H501S X4 FPV Quadcopter is the best bang for the buck. I love to fly it and it is well behaved. I would recommend this unit to anyone just getting started in this hobby.

Thank you for your review! I bought this drone for my grandson and after reading the manual, I was skeptical that I had bought more drone than he could handle. As a result of your excellent review, I'm relieved!
In manual mode this lil puppy screams. Be careful though bc when you pull out at full stick as it will do an unexpected acrobatic maneuver which can cause the drone to drop about ten feet! I've lost it twice as a result. Great drone!
Just got this little guy,,maiden flight yesterday,, absolutely fantastic, flys great and easy to fly as well,,it gives my Phantom a rest ;-) ,,love this Hubson, worth every penny.
Good review, I just returned from the ball park from flying one with a friend. I flew RC for twenty years but not quads. The drone took off and went over the back stop and did not return . I told him to hit the return button and there was no response, it flew out of sight. I've never flown one only RCs. He put on the paddle antenna and I noticed there was another open connection, but I didn't think about asking what it was for. I got home and started watching videos to see what went wrong. The 2.4 Ghz antenna was not put on his transmitter, so he had no control. Your video explained and gave me knowledge for when I get my own quadcopter. I will have a checklist of my own for first timer.
I've been building my quads. However, the best run time I get on my 260mm GPS and non-GPS quads is about 7 1/2 minutes. What impresses me with this quad is the run time. This would be ideal to take on my rear bag of the FJR when I'm riding with my various motorcycle groups. I've done videos with the club at various places we've stopped. I really may consider this and I've seen it for as little as $199 on eBay for the standard controller and not the professional you have here. Good Flying.
I own both versions, the H501S and the H501SS. Just thought i would add this in as it was not mentioned in the video. If u buy the newer SS version you need to format the micro SD card before you put it in the drone, if you dont then you will get a real poor choppy recording footage which is nearly impossible to watch. If you buy the older S model then no formatting is nessesary to the SD card. Great quad, lowest price with all the features of much higher end quads. Great review.
Thanks for the video! I pulled the trigger on this, 3 extra batteries, a case to hold it and the transmitter, and a SKYRC B6AC V2 balance charger. Still reading and watching videos for this drone, as there is just so much to learn. I haven't even flown it yet, but plan on it soon, as the weather here in the SF Bay Area has been pretty bad and COLD! Thanks again for the video!
Ive had it in the air a bunch of times now and its actually a really nice quad, for the price! the video option is awesome for this quad too. This was a great starter drone for me, because of the price, etc. And I was a complete novice. Now, I've upgraded BIG TIME! Purchased a Tarranis QX7S An Emax Hawk 5 (100mph!!!) An TBS Oblivion An HGLRC XJB 145 And a Newbee Acrobee (Tiny Whoop/Drone) And a set of Aomway Commander V1's (FPV Goggles) Ive got to tell you, I was addicted at first flight! I instantly wanted better and better quads, but with that you must increase your knowledge of Firmware, Betaflight, and so much more! Definitely not a hobby for the people that don't want to put in the work, but so much fun when it all comes together. Theres also a very Large community of pilots, builders, and manufacturers, that offer their help and assistance when needed. Longer story short... Its an EXPENSIVE hobby, that requires lotsa' patience and hard work at times, but is so rewarding and so much fun!!! Thanks again mvp sharky! Great video and hope to see more from you!!! ***SUBBED***
I had a Hubsan H501c, the little brother to the H501s. The C didn't have the follow me mode or the FPV, but it was pretty much identical. I loved that drone and flew it all the time until I got a DJI Spark. As a beginner drone the Hubsans are great. Sturdy as all get out but they can be a little finicky with their setup. If they ever add stabilization and folding wings it could be a killer drone in the same class as the Parrot Anafi.
Lol. I'm here in 2019 watching your video. Because I had just bought this exact one. The seller accepted my offer for $150. With shipping and the fancy controller.
Hi all, very nice video keep them coming! I also have the H501S it's a great little quad I'm now on my 24th flight and it is doing very well, I have had some flights that I had to land and recalibrate compass this takes 2 or 3 minutes and gets rid of the toilet bowl effect when flying, just a note: you have to make sure to have antennas on transmitter the 2.4 GHz side is very easy to blow out transmitter board if you forget and turn on transmitter with out antennas I just took a sticker and made a note to put on antennas and keep it on transmitter. It looks cool and it's a blast to fly have fun every one and enjoy :) Don.
Thanks for the comment - great point that you do want to have antennas on every FPV transmitter. You are right, they will overheat and go bad if you run them without antennas for too long!
Really a great drone. I live bordering wilderness in Florida and lost two so far. I’m on my third . Only cost $150-180. But yes keep gps mode on always or kiss it by bye bye. I’m putting a small beeper tracker on this one
@Kleki my third hubsan X4 was lost for 3weeks, and my friend a few houses away used his drone and found it the first day. It was fine. If you look at the distance on your screen mark it off and somehow measure the distance, like with a GPS app or a walking measuring wheel, then you just move left and right and you'll find it. Take a Pic of the screen on the controller. Watch my video of how vast the wilderness is where I fly mine, it's amazing it was found. Stripervince1 drone video
Howdy Kelly - Great meeting you in person in Shiner. Still laughing from overhearing the conversation and recognizing you right off. It was a pleasure. I'm looking forward to your review of the goggles when you have a chance to post! Let me know if you are going to be out flying or riding and maybe we can meet up. Take care! Mark Gardner
I just got the H501C for Christmas,my first drone, and am anxious to fly it.Thanks for putting out your videos with tips,I'm sure it'll make it that much easier to learn and fly
I just added this to my Amazon list and will be picking it up in a couple weeks. It will be my first drone. I'm going to use it a little for shots for videos, and to play around with. I haven't found a reviewer yet that said to stay away from it.
Great video, decided me to buy one. The transmitter is different? New , only 2 switches, no Ariels needed and comes with rechargeable battery. Also no need to calibrate transmitter only the compass on the drone. Amazon delivered next day. Pity there isn't an on off switch on the drone. Very strongly built but props are leathal, during an early crash they cut through thick foliage. Would take your fingers off. Buy the prop protectors? Off to buy goggles! Fun.
Had an issue with the camera/FPV not working, went through all the 5.8gHz frequencies and still had nothing. Saw 1 review online that said you could do a factory reset and start over by "holding up against the 2 sticks" with no other helpful information so we just did a return for replacement on Amazon. It was my son's 15th b-day present so he was pretty bummed out. Thanks for the review.
Sir; You did a fantastic job of outlining the values of this product while keeping me aware of its flaws. Husban owes the credit of my purchase to you! Best Regards ans thanks from a fellow Texan.
Great review as usual, but the footage sure seemed pretty shaky. Maybe I'm missing something here, but also I wondered what the range might be. Thanks again for the review. Marc.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! The problem with adding a battery is going to be space for it...the battery slot fits one battery well, but there is no additional room. The only suggestion I would have is to see how high of a mAh battery you can find. I think the one I was using is 2700 mAh - if you could find something higher (like 3500 mAh) that would give you more flight time!
Great review. You said an operator may use the Eflight 2S 7.4V 800mah battery to replace the 8 AA batteries in the controller. Prior to that you mentioned the battery that goes into the drone to fly the drone is a 2S 7.4v 800mah battery. So, are you saying you can use that same sized battery for the controller as well as the drone? Thanks. BTW, how do you charge the LiPo batteries? Does the Hubsan H501S come with a charger for the Lipo battery with JST connectors? Thanks much and thumbs up.👍
great review but your recommendation of the 7.4v Lipo upgrade is incorrect. If your planning on upgrading to a Lipo you need a 11.1v 3s Lipo not a 7.4v. i went with a 11.1v 3s 2100mah Lipo and that's about as big a Lipo as you can get that will fit. I was using #8 AA 2500mah Duracell rechargeables and they got me around 3hrs of fly time where the Lipo gets double or triple that
glad you cleared up that 7.4 volt lipo thing , I was scratching my head over that . 11.1 volt makes more sense . He did a great job on the review though .
I'm new to drones and buying X4 model in a few days and watched many videos.... I see other people calibrating drone by twisting in the hands, and others such as yourself making themselves a bit dizzy by holding and spinning body with it.. What is right and wrong?
Love mine, $150 on ebay, third one, I lost 2 in swamp. Only cons are they need to make better stronger easier connections on these plug ins for batteries and a magnetic or velcro battery door
Thanks to your review and others, my H501s arrived today from gearbest, so now I need to ask my question again about the Tx battery. It expects 8xAA which is 12V, but you say it will work fine on a 7.4V LiPo, and I wondered how that is possible, as 7.4V is not even close to the Tx expected voltage. How about 8x 1.2V rechargeable AAs, that would be 9.6V? Second question: Is there no microphone? So the video is silent? Not that there is much to hear but buzzing, but I was contemplating a mod using walkie talkie innards to have a small 'bullhorn' and ability to listen, but now I'm told there is no mic. Oh well. Great review, thanks.
Thank you for great review...one important Q.... the transmitter works with 8AA that total 11-12 V...if you replace it with 7.4 V 800MAH how it is going to operate with such lower voltage ?
Good review. You got the battery monitors reversed: Quad left, Controller right side. Also, how does that LiPo battery at 7.4V replace the AA battery pack at 12V? Is the voltage on the controller that tolerant? Why not just use 8 NiMh AAs in the holder and recharge them? Thank you.
Thanks for the comment. The 7.4V Lipo works great in the transmitter. The reason I'm not using the AA's is because mine had poor connections and would not always power up without alot of jiggling of the batteries. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Thanks. Perhaps my question was not clear. The Tx needs 12V, and the screen top right shows what the current voltage is. Why does the Tx allow you to use a voltage (7.4V) so far lower than the expected 12V? Why does it not shut down due to low voltage? I mean, if you put in 8 AAs at 1.5V each, you get 12V, and when the voltage drops to 10V or so, the Tx will complain, no? So how do you 'convince' the Tx to be happy with such a low voltage (7.4) when it expects 12? Thanks.
Just came across your video, very well done. Would you recommend this drone over the Bugs 2? I had a Bugs 3 from Amazon but controller would not calibrate, so it was returned. Your review has me looking at Husban now.
This drone advertises a "failsafe feature". Need help understanding this. Does this mean when it gets to a point where the video does not display it activates the home feature??
Can you get prop gaurds? Hubsun website is all in Chinese. Does it send a GPS becon or location to save forging all over someone elses land? Is there air pressure hold? Good camera quality. Is follow me follow the controller? is there a non X4 version? Does return to home(GPS) work in altitude hold mode?
Very informative and well done video (nice editing too)! Question: does the TX have video out for attaching a headset without needing another RX? Also, I assume from the looks that the camera is not vertically adjustable. This looks to be a great "sport" drone. Thanks for the review.
I watched your video on the H501 advanced and really enjoyed. Have a question The Lipo transmitter battery you said will work was an E-Flite 2S 7.4V 800 mah with a JST connector. Question: How many cells? I see at E-Flite's site they have a number avialable. I have a 11.1 8c 2200mAh but think the voltage is wrong. Thanks
Not sure if you know (so forgive me if you already know this) - a 1S battery is 3.7v, a 2S is 7.4v, a 3S is 11.1v, etc. I think that as long as the 11.1v (3S) battery has a JST connector, it should work. Many devices will work with different voltages and I think the H501 remote is one of them.
great video Kelly and comprehensive review. Thank you. I particularly liked the 'cons' part with some v good advice. I've been a good boy this year, i hope Santa knows 🎅...... 👍😉
Have any of you drone enthusiasts tried running a cable from the video out on your controller to the video in on your fpv goggles? I was wondering if you could then see the telemetry data and also the comparatively better view from the controller antenna versus the fpv antenna.
I've had this drone for only about a month, but your vids helped a lot. I used to fly collective pitch helis, but because of these new modern gyros I feel like I'm cheating when flying the quads. Like the way you present your info and vids. Did you ever fly CP helis?
Thanks! I have flown some intermediate (single prop with flybar) but no CP helis. I have also flown a decent number of airplanes. But drones are just to amazing - agreed - it is like cheating - but SOOO much fun! Thanks for the comment!
I have the same drone and the return to home is more like a return to me it does not return to where you launched it but instead right above your head.
Hi. Just bought one and I cant make it fly. Motors doesn’t start after calibration. I got no gps message... even I turned off gps. Know the issue? Thanks
hi there again. This drone sounds great but what all do you mainly do with them? Fly around.. then what? how are they really fun and stay fun? I could see racing someone else, for one. Anything else? ok thanks!
Oh, sorry, it's called a transmitter, not a controller; I'm new, so...thanks for the video...never flown one...will be ordering today, I believe, from GB
I have never seen a detailed video on signal propagation for these drones. For instance, at 11:45 on this video, if you were to fly over that yellow wall in the distance and drop down behind it, would you still have control from the transmitter?
The first time I turned my drone on, while sitting at my kitchen table, and after reading the directions, I got a message, Calibrate 1. I did that, then Calibrate 2 came on, I could not get it to calibrate. The next time I tried I again followed the directions by turning the transmitter first, then turn on the drone. Now, three months later, I'm still getting the same message once the transmitter recognizes the drone is on, "GPS signal lost." No matter what I do(I've even gone outside in the cold winter weather), I can't get the message to go away, and I can't get my drone to pair with my transmitter. I'm not a quitter, I know eventually I'm going to be able to figure this out. But probably not without some expert help. That's what brought me to your RUclips channel. Thanks for any suggestions and help you can give.... Hopefully you'll see this comment. I just noticed this post is almost four years old..... I forgot to mention, I have the black and gold drone, not the white.
You reminded me when I first had the h501s and not being a quitter like you had paid off even after 4 years the drone is a keeper and I still fly it when I have the chance. Since you mentioned about your transmitter not pairing well, you might want to check binding procedure. If memory serves press video button while powering on. You should be able to see video transmission of the drone on a successful bind. Oh you probably got the GPS figured out on a nice summer day outdoors by now I hope.
@@rexopg5733 Thanks Rex for your suggestions. About two days after I wrote my plea for help above, I was finally able to get my drone to work. However, since it was too cold to go outside, I tried getting the hang of flying it by flying it in the house. Unfortunately, just as I was finally feeling confident, I went to land it and accidentally used the wrong control stick, and it went crashing into the wall. It died....(I wasn't very happy, but my dogs were. Every time they heard the propellers start they made a mad dash for the back of the house. They had no confidence in flying skills whatsoever). I bought a replacement drone(just a drone, not the controller), but still haven't been able to calibrate it with the old controller. My nephew is much better at technical things then I am, so he's working on it right now. I'm fairly certain the new drone does seem to be paired to the old controller because when I'd turn it on, the camera on the drone displays whatever it's pointing at on the control monitor. It's just a matter of figuring out how to get it to calibrate. Since then, I did purchase a smaller version, the Hubson FPV X4 (H502S). I got it to fly, but I didn't have the GPS turned on and it flew over my house I couldn't get it to turn around and fly back to me. I was lucky enough(without being able to see what I was doing since I was standing in the front yard and it was now somewhere in my back yard), to land it safe and sound. I haven't had a chance to take it out again. But hope to do so soon.....
@@geecee58 I'm so glad you are enjoying the hobby and doing it wisely as well, by not spending too much on newer drones but older proven ones at a third of the price. Yup The 502s i think is the brushed version and good for beginners as well. Oh this is one piece of advice for not to loose your Drone, obviously the perfect condition to fly is when wind is non-existent to have complete control like in a gym or so. But outdoors is better to fly early in the day with less winds but if you still gotta fly in the wind make sure the wind is blowing towards your face and no obstacle to crash behind you. So basically you fly against the wind the farther you go, and the drone comes back to you when you let go of your sticks(don't rely on RTH too much and use nature (wind) to your advantage) Check out Quadcopter101's channel he's like the grandfather of Drones.
@@rexopg5733 Good advice. I'll be sure to check the wind. Next time I take the drone out I will go out in my back yard instead of the front. It's about a half acre. There are some trees, but there's a nice open space too. I just want to get used to taking off and landing first. I'm not in big hurry to see how high or how far I can get it to go... Even though this drone wasn't nearly as expensive as the other one I bought, I still don't want to see my hard earned cash fly away....
hello Ready Set Dronel. Who is more noisy ? the mjx bugs 3 or hubsan H501S ? The H501S in manual mode have same speed with bugs 3? Today i sold my mjx bugs 3 and Thinking of buying the h501s. Is good choice for upgrade? What interests me is not too quietly to be about the same noise as the bugs 3
Will this takeoff in an NFZ or grounded like DJI? Plz save the "why do you want to fly in an NFZ?", I've my reasons. Just hoping for a quick response. Thanks.
I have also seen the compass calibration done a lot easier and more precise in that it is done with just the craft being turned not the person with the craft
U can't have a negative be with the plastic covers that are supposed to be taken off won't let you go all the way when they are supposed to be taken off.
By looking at comments I'm late to this drone. I've never owed a drone and got one for my birthday and am looking up review videos. Just wondering about the control battery pack (Eflight) you mention in your video. Can that be charged using the supplied charger that came with the drone ? I'm new to this so question probably very silly.
how do you think this drone compares to an HS700??? Just curious. Had the 700... crashed it into the surf on vacation, and looking to replace it with something cheap, but not exactly sure what to get yet
Saludo como puedo resolver el CHECK GYRO SENS, no me deja calibrar trate con firmare pero sigue el problema. Por favor si me puede ayudar, muchas gracias.
Your description of battery in quad copter and remote are backwards. Drone is left, remote is right. The drone takes a 7.2v battery, so let's hope it isn't at 11.8v :D
I think I would just spend an extra $100 or so and get a DJI Phantom 3. At least you would know you're getting a good quality drone that way. I feel like buying these cheaper Chinese drones are always a gamble.
Hi there! I have the drone H507A X4 Star Pro. Problem is I cannot fly it. After I get a GPS lock then I get a message that the engine is locked and the drone will not lift off.(outdoors I have 11 satelite, light 1 red diod) When I am inside and there is no GPS fix, then it does fly. somebody help?
I'm new to Drones and this Model H501s X4 seems to be a Very Good Value. However, is there any way to extend the on-board battery power as only 15 min of flight time seems short if flying at a higher altitudes. Like a better battery. I would hope to have at least 30 min of flight time on any drone but again, I'm new to drones. Your thoughts? Thanks, New Subscriber!!
So you can do some modifications to almost any drone to run a second battery in parallel, but that will require soldering a new cable onto the power cable and also trying to find a place where the second batter can live since there is only room in the battery compartment for one battery. Honestly, this would not be a great drone to do that to b/c it is low profile and I'm not sure where you would put a second battery. Maybe velcro to the bottom? My suggestion would be to spend just a bit of extra money and get a DJI Phantom 3 Standard. It's not much more and you should get around 25 minutes of flight time with it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
i was thinking to buy this one but just noticed the camera seems not movable. Im looking for a drone that can film everything below it....like a zoom out from ground to sky. Can someone recommend a drone in that price range that has a movable camera?
Thanks, I ordered the H501S Advanced tonight. I wanted a Phantom but that doesn't quite fit the budget right now. On the suggested transmitter battery "E-flite 800mAh 2S 7.4V 20C LiPo", is that the only battery that will work, or is it possible other jst connector / 7.4v batteries might work? For a couple E-flite batteries it going to cost nearly $40. I have found several other batteries, but some are labeled 25c, 35c, etc, or 3S (I'm not even sure what those numbers mean). Just trying to keep the cost down some.
Hey Jeffrey - That's great. The H501S is a very cool drone! On the transmitter, I don't think that you need that particular battery. Any brand should work as long as it has a JST connector. And I think that you could use a 7.4V or 11.1V battery. Someone pointed out tot me that 8 AA batteries @ 1.5V each is 12 volts. So a 11.1V would be right in that range. In terms of the "S" number, that is the number of cells in the battery. Each cell equals 3.7 volts. So a "1S" battery is 3.7V. A 2S battery is 7.4V. etc. The "C" rating has to do with how much power you can safely draw from the battery "continuously". So a 45C battery will give you more burst power than a 30C battery. Here is a video that explains LiPo batteries. ruclips.net/video/ogb0DTqsZEs/видео.html Thanks for watching and let me know what you think of the Hubsan!
Thanks Kelly! I watched your battery video, and everything makes sense now. There's not much information on exactly which battery Hubsan recommends, but I found another review saying "12V 3S with JST connector". although 3S as you you said actually equals 11.1V. I found a "ZOP Power 11.1V 800MAH 3S 25C Lipo Battery JST Plug" for $8.43 each, so I think a couple of those should work well. I'm going to look for a decent charger next. I'm pretty geeked to fly this coming from a Syma x5c, and Holy Stone hs170.
Jeffrey Pringle the c rating is the amperage discharge rate. people say a higher c rating doesnt make it more punchy, it does because there is less voltage drop. the s stands for # of cells. 1s is 3.7 volts, 2s is 7.4 volts, 3s 11.1 volts, and 4s 14.8 volts.
Great review...i have ordered one..one question: do you know if it can be just in winter time? I live in Norway..north oh polar circle..or does it have to be summer and warm before using..thank you in advance
Brushless motors do well in the cold, but LiPos don't like extreme cold... I would recommend keeping the batteries in a warmer location and load them up when ready to fly. This way the current draw will help keep the battery warm while in use, and the standby batteries can stay warm say in a vehicle or even a pouch with a hand warmer. I even carry the spare batteries in my pockets (one battery in each pocket (I never put two batteries together for safety) so my body heat keeps them warm. I have no experience with drones, but I have a lot of experience with RC cars, the tech is the same, motor and battery wise. Hope this helps :)
Hey man. I'm planning on getting this as my first drone. My only question is does it fare well portability wise? I'm taking this with me on holiday and I'd hate for it to be damaged during transport.
I wouldn't change the antenna that controls the quad to clover leaf antenna only because I have never heard anyone using clover leaf on a tx normally that's done on a vtx
This is an awesome drone, I even found it for a very competitive price with *free shipping* www.banggood.com/Hubsan-X4-H501S-5_8G-FPV-With-1080P-HD-Camera-Brushless-Motor-GPS-RC-Quadcopter-RTF-p-1004657.html?p=B0221338596320131216 check it out :)
US dollars gearbest is cheaper but if you live in Asia, banggood offer the best price including shipping because it supports multiple exchange rate. I bought it on Banggood and got it at least US30 cheaper.
Two thing to try. First, check closely to make sure that all the batteries have a good connection and are touching. On mine, there was a small gap between the positive post on the battery and the battery holder. Once I moved the battery down, it worked fine. Do a close inspection to make sure you don't have gaps first. Second would be to get a 11.1 volt LiPo battery with a JST connector. That will work in place of the AA batteries. Hope that helps and please let me know how it goes!
It's a good one. If you just want to fly FPV, it's a good choice. If you want to race, I'd look at the Shuriken 180 from Holybro. It's a really good racer and under $200 - but you have to buy a separate transmitter and FPV goggles. Happy flying!
I loved mine until it flew away when it lost contact with my remote. No control and I ran towards and it was never to be seen again. It should have RTH as advertised - but it didn't. I even shut off my controller shortly after I lost sight in hopes that it would return. I did have my FAA number and cell on the side of it but that was about a month ago. I used to recommend this quad but now I won't. Lots of bugs that I worked through like you but at the end of the day the quality is not up to speed.
Question? Which battery charger do you recommend to charge the Lipo batteries? I'm looking to replace the original battery charger that comes with the H501s because I hear it's not good quality. Thanks in advance. 😀
I use the Tenergy TB6. You can use it to balance your batteries, discharge or charge them. And it comes with a ton of different connectors, so it works with alot of different batteries. Here's a link: amzn.to/2iWygKt Happy flying!
I have several Quadcopters, some are more expensive and a couple are less expensive. In my opinion the Hubsan H501S X4 FPV Quadcopter is the best bang for the buck. I love to fly it and it is well behaved. I would recommend this unit to anyone just getting started in this hobby.
Great points! It really does come with alot for the price. Thanks for watching!
Have you flown the UPAir one? If so how does it compare
how does it compare to the phantom 3 standard

Watching your older video for tips, gearbest is sending this quad to me for review. Always glad to come back here and watch your videos.
Thanks Donnie! This is a nice quad - it's like an earlier version of the Bugs2.
Great informative video. FYI I think those white rubber caps are just shipping protection, meant to be removed.
and thats probs why his controller was thinking he was pulling the sticks 80% rather than 100%, cause the rubber protection was stopping them.
Great review.
..is there a format in the menu, I have just got the ss model........ cheers...
Thanks again for the video!
you will have a blast with this drone
Ive had it in the air a bunch of times now and its actually a really nice quad, for the price! the video option is awesome for this quad too.
This was a great starter drone for me, because of the price, etc. And I was a complete novice.
Now, I've upgraded BIG TIME!
Purchased a Tarranis QX7S
An Emax Hawk 5 (100mph!!!)
An TBS Oblivion
An HGLRC XJB 145
And a Newbee Acrobee (Tiny Whoop/Drone)
And a set of Aomway Commander V1's (FPV Goggles)
Ive got to tell you, I was addicted at first flight!

Love the screen control writing displayed, beats a beeping. noise.
Lol. I'm here in 2019 watching your video. Because I had just bought this exact one. The seller accepted my offer for $150. With shipping and the fancy controller.
Congrats, the 501 is a proven bird...you will enjoy it.
The fact that you can put a Lipo of your choice in the remote is awesome. Make a forget about the 8 AA battery thing lol.
when I spin myself around, I also turn green
Nevermind I figured it out. I just bought one today. Waiting for it to b delivered. Ill be making my own review also. Thanks for the video.
Nice comprehensive review. I have a H502E that I really like and plan to get a 501 as soon as possible.
Upper left is the drone battery, upper right is the Tx, the transmitter takes 8 double A, so 12v. Love your videos Kelly, keep it up!
Thanks. I love Canadians! Seriously - I'm married to one. Thanks for watching, eh!
Thanks Mark! Great meeting you too. I will be in touch!
The only one guy who contrived to show the screen and everithing the way it nust be
, thank you
I just got the H501C for Christmas,my first drone, and am anxious to fly it.Thanks for putting out your videos with tips,I'm sure it'll make it that much easier to learn and fly
I just added this to my Amazon list and will be picking it up in a couple weeks. It will be my first drone. I'm going to use it a little for shots for videos, and to play around with. I haven't found a reviewer yet that said to stay away from it.
How are you finding it, I am thinking of buying and would like a customers opinion
@@jakewoods7152 I'm not home from deployment yet
Ok np
Great video, decided me to buy one. The transmitter is different? New , only 2 switches, no Ariels needed and comes with rechargeable battery. Also no need to calibrate transmitter only the compass on the drone. Amazon delivered next day. Pity there isn't an on off switch on the drone. Very strongly built but props are leathal, during an early crash they cut through thick foliage. Would take your fingers off. Buy the prop protectors? Off to buy goggles! Fun.
I ADDED A ON/OFF SWITCH TO MINE. I USED A SWITCH FROM A DOLLAR STORE FLASH LIGHT (small and lite). IT SURE MAKE THINGS EASIER.
A very impartial and sincere review. Great job.
Sorry to hear that. I hope you get one that works better.
Sir;
You did a fantastic job of outlining the values of this product while keeping me aware of its flaws. Husban owes the credit of my purchase to you! Best Regards ans thanks from a fellow Texan.
This hubsan is one of best drones I use of all mine for money love it don 👍👍
i have Hubsan H501s and H501a, the best drone for newbie i think
Great review as usual, but the footage sure seemed pretty shaky. Maybe I'm missing something here, but also I wondered what the range might be. Thanks again for the review. Marc.
Very good and detailed review. Covered most of the crucial parts.
Any battery mods suggested to increase flight duration?
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! The problem with adding a battery is going to be space for it...the battery slot fits one battery well, but there is no additional room. The only suggestion I would have is to see how high of a mAh battery you can find. I think the one I was using is 2700 mAh - if you could find something higher (like 3500 mAh) that would give you more flight time!
This is good news. Thanks for reply.
Thanks much and thumbs up.👍
This was such an awesome review and demonstration
indeed it showed me how to handle mine in minutes
great review but your recommendation of the 7.4v Lipo upgrade is incorrect.
I’m surprised how good the video quality is for the price.
This quad is well worth it...if you keep the good mode on you can learn really easy to control a quad..5 stars..a d thanks for the video
I'm new to drones and buying X4 model in a few days and watched many videos.... I see other people calibrating drone by twisting in the hands, and others such as yourself making themselves a bit dizzy by holding and spinning body with it.. What is right and wrong?
Great info as I am looking for a small brushless Quad.
Thanks.
Nice review and demo . Happy new year
Just came across your video, very well done. Would you recommend this drone over the Bugs 2? I had a Bugs 3 from Amazon but controller would not calibrate, so it was returned. Your review has me looking at Husban now.
+Andy Petroff Thanks. At the time, the Hubsan was very good for the price. But today, I think the Bugs2 is a better quad for the price.
Like Kelly says, the transmitter eats AA batteries, but NiMh batteries last way longer and are of course rechargeable.
Yes - the AA batteries don't last long at all! I actually used a LiPo - it was one that I had for a Blade drone.
You can view the video with any 5.8Ghz screen or goggles, so yes, you could fly FPV with it pretty easily!
Right is remote VDC and left is quad's juice. You got that backwards?
I am interested also in your opinion on a mutibattery charger for my H501 advanced. One better than another?????
great video Kelly and comprehensive review. Thank you. I particularly liked the 'cons' part with some v good advice.
I've been a good boy this year, i hope Santa knows 🎅...... 👍😉
great review Kelly!
Have any of you drone enthusiasts tried running a cable from the video out on your controller to the video in on your fpv goggles? I was wondering if you could then see the telemetry data and also the comparatively better view from the controller antenna versus the fpv antenna.
I would think that a "con" would only qualify as one if you did not have a work around. Perhaps rechargeable AA batteries would work?
Anything else? ok thanks!
FPV racing definitely keeps it fun. But it takes practice. Thanks for watching!
Excellent Quality video... Great review actually look credible. one of the very best i have seen
Great review. I do have a question if the motors go out do you have to solder the new motor or is it plug and play?
I run a lipo batterie and get many flights from one charge like more than 4 flights I recommend velcro stripping for easy access to compartment
I just bought a Hubsan H107D X4 FPV mini quadcopter. Have you done a review of that?
Who is more noisy ? the mjx bugs 3 or hubsan
H501S ? The H501S in manual mode have same speed with bugs 3? Today i sold my mjx bugs 3 and Thinking of buying the h501s. Is good
choice for upgrade? What interests me is not too quietly to be about the
same noise as the bugs 3
I think the MJX Bugs3 is a bit noisier. Yes - the H501S is a nice upgrade - the GPS makes a big difference!
Will this takeoff in an NFZ or grounded like DJI? Plz save the "why do you want to fly in an NFZ?", I've my reasons. Just hoping for a quick response. Thanks.
Which drone is best under 350$ for Ariel photography, basically drone in which i can attach my go pro cam and with gimbal.please reply
You could get a Bugs3 and attach a Walkera gimbal to it. I have a video about how to do that on this channel if you want to check it out.
I have also seen the compass calibration done a lot easier and more precise in that it is done with just the craft being turned not the person with the craft
plus I'm in a wheelchair so I couldn't spin myself while holding the quad in the position needed
I'm sure you can do it without having to spin in a circle. I was doing it that way for demonstration purposes. Thanks for watching!
As you may know by know there is a firmware update coming or may be out by now that means you don't have to do the calibration dance anymore.
love your channel.. keep em coming!
very good video
I would lilke to know if this quad was worth it, did it hold together, and did it fly
Is this quad compatible with the Hubsan App without using a controller?
Your description of battery in quad copter and remote are backwards. Drone is left, remote is right. The drone takes a 7.2v battery, so let's hope it isn't at 11.8v :D
I think I would just spend an extra $100 or so and get a DJI Phantom 3. At least you would know you're getting a good quality drone that way. I feel like buying these cheaper Chinese drones are always a gamble.
ReviewsTechNow us I got a phantom, but u know DJI is based In shenzen china
N for Noah yes but it is good quality and you know what you are getting before you gamble on the cheaper knockoff brands
This is awesome video quality
can u download the videos from it to ur phone or what
Hi there! I have the drone H507A X4 Star Pro. Problem is I cannot fly it. After I get a GPS lock then I get a message that the engine is locked and the drone will not lift off.(outdoors I have 11 satelite, light 1 red diod) When I am inside and there is no GPS fix, then it does fly. somebody help?
thank you for the video
Ready Set Drone
i was thinking to buy this one but just noticed the camera seems not movable. Im looking for a drone that can film everything below it....like a zoom out from ground to sky.
Can someone recommend a drone in that price range that has a movable camera?
I did everything to calibrate. Cannot get the motors to arm.
Any suggestions?
how do you put it in your backpack without breaking the blades?
Here is a video that explains LiPo batteries. ruclips.net/video/ogb0DTqsZEs/видео.html
Thanks for watching and let me know what you think of the Hubsan!
Why do people do the drone dance instead of just spinning it around in their hand
Because dancing is fun!
Great review...i have ordered one..one question: do you know if it can be just in winter time? I live in Norway..north oh polar circle..or does it have to be summer and warm before using..thank you in advance
Excellent! I'm actually planning a trip to Norway next summer. Yes - it should work as long as the temperature is above freezing and not too windy!
Thank you for answear...i ment used in winter he he.and you know , winter above artic circle usually is below freezing..have nice trip to Norway..
I was looking for the best price and I found this:

Hey man. I'm planning on getting this as my first drone. My only question is does it fare well portability wise? I'm taking this with me on holiday and I'd hate for it to be damaged during transport.
I think if you get a good case to carry it in, you should be good.
@@readysetdrone Many thanks!
I wouldn't change the antenna that controls the quad to clover leaf antenna only because I have never heard anyone using clover leaf on a tx normally that's done on a vtx
+george aura Good point! Thanks!
+ready set drone hey, Ik this sounds crazy but can I have a free drone? I'm trying to start me channel but don't have the funds...
Pieter Prins even cheaper on gearbest....
US dollars gearbest is cheaper but if you live in Asia, banggood offer the best price including shipping because it supports multiple exchange rate. I bought it on Banggood and got it at least US30 cheaper.
Great Job on your review!!!
Hi, today arrived mine h501s advanced.Transmitter not turn on!Fresh batteries (good quality and checked) inside. Please help. Thanks
Thanx, I will let you know ... Ciao!
Ready Set Drone Good news! It work! It was the first case, a bad contact of one battery, pinched by the battery tray.
Thanx for your suggestion.
Bye!
Nice vid! is this the most stable, better camera quality and better fpv drone under $250?
It's a good one. If you just want to fly FPV, it's a good choice. If you want to race, I'd look at the Shuriken 180 from Holybro. It's a really good racer and under $200 - but you have to buy a separate transmitter and FPV goggles. Happy flying!
Thank you :)
what is more better transmitter in h501s .. the pro/advance version or the standard version?
Here's a link: amzn.to/2iWygKt
Happy flying!
