TURBOCHARGING my 1HZ - JB Turbo [Turbo Conversion Part 1]
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 окт 2024
- In this first part of my turbo conversion journey, I install a JB Turbo kit on my 1998 HZJ105 running a 1HZ.
In this short series, I will be converting my 1HZ to a turbocharged engine, installing a 3 inch exhaust, wiring in gauges to monitor the turbo's performance and comparing the performance of the engine to before I converted it.

Love your work, a great Sunday watch Will
Thanks a bunch for the kind comments Anton! :))
make them the best qual- *wind noise* :P cool video, cool truck, love it!
Sounds even better with an inter cooler on it now 😍 Love a good turbo spool! Thank you
good job with the conversion mate, looks nice n tidy
Thank you!
I took these exact steps you have taken except intercooled at day one, my egts never seen over 450 ( post turbo dump pipe ) , my 1hz blue a hole in the piston with just 12 psi boost and minor adjustment on the fuel pump, it was only 295000 klms when it let go it lasted 53000klms with the turbo on, i dont recommend turboing the 1hz to anyone UNLESS they have got turbo pistons and con rods to suit, some people dont have any issues they say (at the moment) but later on they will with stock internals, 1hz being pre combustion chamber in the head also allows it to crack easier with extra power from turbo setup. I am now rebuilding my 1HZ into a 1HD-T for a direct injection system
It will always be preferable to upgrade the interiors on the 1HZ before turbocharging. Everyone has a different story and everyone’s engines will have a different history that will affect the way it handles boost and more fuel
@@WillsLandcruiser best thing you can do is boost compensator for your pump on these
Post turbo egt is no go out the mani is the go more accurate also 450 post turbo is still high for intercooled
Well Done mate!!!
Great video mate I’m thinking about putting a turbo in my hzj75
So worth it mate! As long as it’s done safely
Do you have a link for the kit you bought I’ve looking around and haven’t seen able to find it.
You fkin legend!
Hey mate just wondering when you primed the turbo with oil, did you unplug your injector pump or just crack the injector lines?
my exhaust manifold was cracked in the same spot as yours lol.
This is awesome mate, just wondering, I have the same engine but in an hj80 series, will the exhaust match up to the new manifold in mine as it did with yours?
hi,
my name is bruno from Italy and i subscribed to your channel, i have a question for you:
I have a naturally aspirated HZJ 105 manual gearbox, I read that in Australia they sell a kit to lengthen the 5th gear ratio, could you give me some indications on how to find it?? Thanks in advance
Hey mate, go and search “360 Gearbox and Diffs”. They do that kind of thing. However I’m not sure if this applies to the gearbox you and I have in our HZJ105s, or if it’s more common in the 100 series H151 box. I’m sure they would be happy to help anyway!
@@WillsLandcruiser I see to contact them, thanks again !!
nice thanks for sharing , how much hrs pwr , torque ?
Hey mate I cover all that here- ruclips.net/video/mo8t5axLgO4/видео.html
do the ct26 tubro have a water line as well how do you run it?
any plans on running a top mount inter cooler, I understand they don't need them but do you think it would be a good idea for temps ?
Go check out my more recent vids mate. HPD S2 top mount and a handy tune. This video shows nothing compared to the power I’m getting now 😂
Hey mate where did you get your down pipe from I can’t seem to find any I have a hzj79
I actually had to fab it up myself a bit. I bought the dump from the 100 series FTE exhaust and welded it onto the 1HZ exhaust
Once you capped off the breather where did you run the hose for the other open end? Cheers! Great vid
How did you attach the exhaust to the turbo?? The kit doesn't come with an adaptor
Needs to be a different exhaust. I used a PPD 3” turboback but I had to make some modifications to that to make the dump pipe work
Gracias si me pudieras aclarar mi ignorancia
Do you have overheating issues since the install?
Did you upgrade any of the internals like bearings or pistons
no
hey mate, is it possible for you to send me a link or some more info on where to get this turbo kit?
It's discontinued
Suggestion, put some bracing on the oil pressure sensor... due diesel vibration, it has tendency to crack...
Thanks for that! I wouldn’t have thought of it myself. I’ll look into it
@@WillsLandcruiser somebody i knew had this happend on his 2L.. oil was drained.. luckily in near home
Did u prime the turbo before firing up?
Did you do a catch can or something? Where did the crankcase breather go?
No catch can yet but it’s on the list!
Idk if you'll respond or even have the link but can you please give me the link to the turbo kit
Hey mate I’d love to but unfortunately they went broke and don’t make them anymore
Hey Will, great vid! I’m thinking about buying an 105/ auto with an after market turbo but I’m worried about fuel economy, so, what fuel economy do you get with it turbo’d?? Like what’s highway economy and city economy? Cheers Steve
On an 800km trip, I averaged 14L/100km. Daily driving at 105ish with a heavy foot, I tend to average 16 or 17L/100km. However I now have a lift and bigger tyres. Fair to say the fuel economy probably didn’t change- but since putting bigger tyres on, it has declined
@@WillsLandcruiser @14l/100 have you tuned it for power? Can you tune them for even better economy or should I pull off the turbo (don’t really want to do that)
@@targetoz5470 According to the dyno sheet, my peak power is at 2600rpm, and the AFR is around 19:1 at that point. As far as I know that’s fairly standard for a diesel. My idea of fuel economy comes down to moreso how much work you’re making it do. I have a 2” lift, 33s, a roof rack, spotties, rear drawers, and a heavy foot. There’s lots of dirt roads and hills through my daily driving, so I’m making it work hard all the time. If I had less mods and was lighter, I’d get heaps better fuel economy. In my latest video you’ll see that dad’s FTE is making 3x the power my HZ is making, and yet his average fuel economy is closer to 12L/100
@@WillsLandcruiser yeah rigtyo, so this one I’m looking at has stock suspension and tires just a bull bar, you reckon it would be less that 14l/100??
@@targetoz5470 I’d imagine so. Totally depends on how you drive it. That’s the biggest factor. But with stock tyres and suspension it’ll be less for sure. A roof rack will up your consumption 2L/100, another L/100 for bigger mud terrains, it all adds up 😂 But as someone once said to me, we own landcruiser for smiles per gallon- not miles per gallon
How's she running with the turbo now mate? Still recommend the jb kit?
Still amazing mate. JB turbo hasn’t ever let me down. 15 seconds 0-100km/h, fuel consumption is amazing for the 3T beast it is- like 15/16L/100km. Running 285/75 tyres now, just runs like a dream
Did you need a turbo timer too?
I did install one but they’re not really necessary on this scale
Hi
How’s the reliability ?
I lost my 1HZ engine after turbo KIT installation in 160 000 km. Engine was new,
What psi were you running?
do u see any changes in your car 'technical problems'?
Nope none at all. The 1hz is an all mechanical engine- mechanical fuel pump, no air pressure sensors or any ECU business. The computers that are in the 105 wouldn’t know the difference between stock and turbo 😂
How much psi is that pushing
Did you get the sump off with the car on the ground?
Yes, just had to pop out one side of the rear steering arm and it slid right out
@@WillsLandcruiser nice, thanks doing the same this week
@@mm_____ good luck mate! Hope all goes well. A good clean weld inside and out, and then LOTS of RTA when you put the sump back on and you’ll be set :)
@@WillsLandcruiser yeah shouldn't be too bad, do it right the first time. Was always Sus about the arildite stories
@@mm_____ yeah nah that never works haha. Everyone I’ve spoken to that’s tried that always takes the sump off to weld it in after. Better to get it right the first time for sure
hi mate, with all those exhaust bolts, a technique that works well is heating them up with a torch and then poor cold water on them - do this a couple of times to heat cycle them hopfully making them easier to get off!
DCL Racing channel Thanks for that! I’ll be sure to try this in the future... I need all the help I can get when it comes to exhaust bolts :)
Will's Landcruiser Mods haha Yep they aren’t fun! Awesome video series! Looking at turboing my 105 soon!
DCL Racing channel Not at all 😂 And thanks so much! The next video out will be a top mount intercooler installation so be sure to check that out too! Would love to hear about how your 105 goes and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the power increase!
Will's Landcruiser Mods awesome cheers! Have you gotten yours tuned??
DCL Racing channel it’s booked in for early September! Can’t wait!
Sorry for repeating it over... It seems that you are so scared to overboosing your engine with air... You are not going to damage your engine by boost as long as you don't dump too much fuel.
Your mantra must be not like OMG I have too much boost, but OMG I have too much fuel and my EGTs are too high.... Remember the boost is AIR PRESSURE and it will not kill your engine....
@@WillsLandcruiser AFR might sounds easy but not when it comes to diesel engines.... If you buy AFR meter for gas engine it won't work for you as your engine runs much leaner than any gas engine. Check my thread and see some ideas about diesel AFR meter that really works: forum.ih8mud.com/threads/another-1hz-diy-turbo-conversion-all-diy-not-a-kit.1184451/
spanner, not wrench
I drive landcruiser like this when i want to drive fast i reach 100kh+ on the 3rd gear then 4th to 120
