Back in the day when I saw them I was just a couple years after high school so it might have been the same concert in Philadelphia Steve Perry left because of the guitarist. And he still never came back and then he fell into some kind of thing where he did not want to sing or listen to music anymore and then recently he decided to produces and write a song for his fiance who passed away from cancer he made a promise to her. Steve Smith the drummer he's amazing he has a band called vital information. He's a jazz drummer by heart a few years ago I think two or three he was asked to rejoin journey for a tour because of their drummer at the time was on assault charges. And journey is not going to have that.

When they recorded this song in the studio, Steve did it in one take. This live performance of this song is considered to be the best vocal performance of all time. When Steve sings it is effortless for him, it's just comes natural for him. My favorite singer (Steve Perry) and my favorite group (Journey). They never had a bad song, and their live performances were better than the studio recordings. You need to continue to explore Journey's enormous catalog of music (during the Steve Perry era).

Monchorga, you couldn’t have said that any better. I’ve been a Journey die hard since I was 11 years old. I was fortunate enough to see Steve Perry live. Also saw them with Steve Augeri & Arnel Pinada! Who are both great singers, but Perry takes everything to a level that is impossible to touch. Your so right as they soar so much higher live than recorded and that’s really unheard of. Bands tend to sound better in the studio. Not Journey, they are so much better live!! Great comment that you made😊

I think Steve Perry is one of the best if not the best male singer of all time. His tone, diction, power, range, emotion, pronunciation, breathing is perfect. This song is VERY difficult to song live or in studio. 99-% of singers can’t do it.

There is no one like Steve Perry hands down! The first time I heard this angel sing I was 16 years old in high school, and I am 61 now. Best vocalist of the 20th century! They’ll be talking about Steve 400 years from now. Yeah you guessed it I’m a Perry girl from way back 1978 till now. I had heard over the decades that he was a really nice guy. I had the honor of meeting Steve at a private event in 2019 and we spent about three and a half hours with him at this meet and greet. I got to talk to him for about 45 min. He is the sweetest, funniest, most appreciative, kind, generous megastar I have ever met. He is so humble that he doesn’t think he’s a big deal. I told him to me he is everything because his music and his lyrics got me through so many things even till today. That man loves his fans. He says if it wasn’t for us and our devotion he wouldn’t be who he is. Meeting him is still the best day ever! Keep diving into Journey they have a lot of music and Steve Perry’s solo is awesome as well. He will continue to floor you! ✌🏻🥰

So many people used to crack on Journey because they had so much radio success... which always mystified me. They had uber-talented musicians (Perry himself used to play drums & keys) in Schon, Cain, Smith & Valory (and many others through the years)... and wrote great songs, paired with one of the best voices ever.
You guys should react to some of Perry's most recent work, released back in 2019... "We're Still Here" is pretty cool... as is "No Erasin' ".

This is one of Journeys deep deep hidden Classics, that many don't hear on the radio.
After it kicks off in its E minor launch, it grips the listener and takes you thru the motions and takes you, the listener on roller coaster of non cliche chord changes and Steve Perry's RnB tinged style mixed Blues inflection just draw you in, the piano just opens things and Neil Schon's guitar just grips with fire breathing techniques and soulful note selection take you into another realm .

I've been watching Journey videos on RUclips for years and there's not a single negative review. It's an amazing band. But the biggest constant has been that one of the icons in music history has been the voice and performance of Steve Perry. I have not found a single critic old or young who can say that Perry is not one of the great voices of all time. A list has just come out where Perry is in the 30th place of the best rock singers. It is sad that this list is not for talent but for fame and in that sense, we can question the parameters. Even so, I will always support and recognize that there are underestimated artists, because taste breaks down into genres and also into interests that we don't know about. For me Steve Perry is irreplaceable, but perhaps for the industry it is convenient not to recognize him. You have to see them in the Escape tour (live). Unbelievable.

Steve in his heyday was just massive. He can still sing but cannot hit the high register anymore. The drummer, Steve Smith, is still around with his jazz band Vital Information. Ross Valory, the bassist, rarely gets mentioned, but he has a decent voice and is always solid on bass. Neil is just Neil....dang! Jonathan Cain (piano) comes from the group The Babys and was a great pickup for the band. Interesting fact is that the group Bad English included Jonathan Cain, Neil Schon, John Waite (The Babys' singer), Ricky Phillips (The Babys' bass player and current Styx bassist) and Deen Castronovo (current Journey drummer). Maybe check into some of The Babys such as "Turn and Walk Away," Bad English such as "When I See You Smile," or John Waite's solo stuff such as "Missing You."

I got to see them on the Infinity Tour, I always wished I could have seen them on the Escape Tour. They owned stadiums back then. "Winds Of March"

All the dudes back in the day listening to Journey were going to disco shows, to dance with dudes and sniff their Winds of March pants on the ground doing Dr Ben Dover exercises. Not being sarcastic.

Steve Perry amoungst the greatest singers of All Times !!! Sad he lost a lot of his voice after leaving Journey and late in his solo career, which was dynamic as well. He had bad throat issues. To me, it's as tragic as Linda Ronstadt losing her voice because of a disease. It's like two angels losing their wings !!!

Have to say, this song is one of those that slipped under the radar for me, and I've known all their best stuff going back to the Greg Rollie years. It's a damn good song.
