Jimmy O Show "Request Day"

  • This video is servicing a request for some dbl bender Diamond Rio licks. I took this request and touched on my approach to medium tempo ballads using "Love A Little Stronger" as the example. LALS really served up a different a different look at creating parts for records than my other videos. I'm always glad to field a request. The Diamond Rio stuff and dbl benders licks will probably be interesting to a more select group of guys so I'll likely do very few of these. Thx for the requests and look out for a new video coming very shortly on where I'm trying to take us on "the Jimmy O Show." There is a master plan and you are part of it...Boom!!!!

    Where else in the world will you see and hear an artist of this caliber teaching not only the "how" but the "why" as well? Nowhere that I know of. Simply awesome!

    Jimmy. I was a young highschool shredder Yngwie wanna be back in the hills of Ky. I hooked up with this fine honey. I hated country but as we lay in bed she put on Diamond Rio. What ever got her going. Any way, as I lay there I heard you for the first time. All I remember was your guitar. I blocked everything else out. She fell asleep and I was up all night listening to your guitar parts. Then I discovered other pickers on other tapes. I borrowed 10 of her tapes and locked myself away after school for months. I went from metal to country, blues, Western swing, to bluegrass to jazz. All rolled into one. Hearing you play changed my life.

    You've been my favorite player in the country genre since I've first heard Diamond Rio in the early 90's .. I was lucky to see D.R perform at Casino Rama in Canada and was completely blown away by your classical banjo solo before going into Rural Philharmonic .. thank you for all the great picking over the years and wish you and the guys all the best !

    Hey Jimmy O! Thanks for coming out to Smithville last night for that show! I started playing guitar about the time Diamond Rio came out with that first album. Finally got to see you live and you guys sound as great as ever. Loved seeing you play those 2 bender teles that you’ve played over the years. The only problem is, I’ve been really wanting a bender in my Tele and seeing you play yours sure didn’t help with that! Lol! Going to have to figure out something that I can sell and live without. That’s not easy for me, but I’ve got to get my Tele to Joe Glaser ASAP!
    PS, thanks for a great country music show that I didn’t have to feel ashamed to bring my wife and kids for fear of what trash that might hear! You guys, and Lady, are still great as ever!

    Jimmy, you are an amazing guitarist and you do such cool things with the B/G bender setup! I used to have a RI paisley that had a B/G bender setup - only the benders were the Parsons/White style. I stupidly sold that guitar about four years ago.....and I still regret it. Guitars: The Museum in Umea, Sweden is where the guitar is now under a glass display case. I"m hoping and praying that when I get out from under some of the debts I'm owing, I'll be able to have an AllParts Paisley with B/G Parsons/White-style benders.

Hard concept to wrap your head around especially if your only a guitar player. so thanks to you i have stopped butchering other peoples material and they are very happy to see the change in me. so for the heart of an old man thank you and if its not too much to ask "long way back"

      The Jimmy O Show it was about something you said in the Bender video. You mentioned that you had to keep a screwdriver handy because of all that maple, you had to chase the neck around a little. Just wondering what you meant by that.

    Jimmy.....over the 3 refers to the 3rd note of the scale in the bass, isnt that also the same as what is referred to as "dropped 2" by some, which puts the 2nd note of the CHORD in the bass? (referring to major chord here) Please clarify..thanks for your sharing.

    • @TheJimmyOShow
      @TheJimmyOShow  7 лет назад

      Never heard of a dropped 2. "Over 3", "Over 5"…etc…is common nomenclature in Nashville and the Nashville number system when referring to what note is the lowest in the chord.

  • @beau34566689
    @beau34566689 7 лет назад

    This may be a stupid or crazy question, but what did you mean in the Bender Deep Dive video (at around 2:20) by having to keep a screwdriver handy because of all that maple, you have to chase the neck around a bit. Were you talking about truss rod adjustment, the saddles on the bridge, something to do with the bender's, or something else? Forgive me, I'm still learning!

    • @TheJimmyOShow
      @TheJimmyOShow  7 лет назад +1

      The highly figured Maple without a different wood for the finger board leaves my neck somewhat unstable and requires (sometimes daily) adjustments.

    How is it that...that Tele sounds in tune over those all those positions? Tuned 5ths and 8ths over A and D?

    • @TheJimmyOShow
      @TheJimmyOShow  7 лет назад

      Not sure I understand the question referring to intonation in different positions? If this refers to the guitar generally being in tune…it is something I have worked hard at pulling off. This hasn't always been the case in my playing career. Understanding basic set-up, setting of intonation is only part of the picture. Developing left hand feel for actually playing in tune has taken great effort on my part. If my guitar sounds bad (bad tone) or is out of tune, it cripples me as a player. Is this what you're driving at?
