I’m in the US…naturally the journey started with bourbons & rye…ultimately sought out other experiences in whisky because bourbon is so narrow banded as it relates to flavor profiles and aromatics….Malts are just so much more expansive of a world to enjoy!
Bourbon vs Single Malts is akin to Coffee vs tea or cigars vs pipe tobacco….1 offers great narrow range of flavor and the other offers great wider array of profiles
Great episode gents…funny to watch Jake squirm 😂…the blowing up the hill moment was freaking hilarious 😂

I'm with you here Jake, I have drunk far too much Makers Mark and other Bourbons in my younger years, but only with coke I cant drink them straight, also great in cocktails, but for my palate bourbon can never replace a decent single Malt. Charlotte knows her stuff, great content once again

Great episode. Jake, I started with bourbon, progressed to scotch and now have a hard time going back as well. When I do, I find myself gravitating to either ryes or 4-grain bourbons more often as they can be a little more dynamic/interesting.

    • @TheWhiskyBaron
      @TheWhiskyBaron 3 месяца назад

this seems to be the standard journey into whiskies and that's an interesting point about 4 grain bourbons. I'll have to keep trying them as I clearly can find expressions that suit. all thanks to Charlotte for helping me discover this one

Charlotte is a trooper putting up with Jake's brutal honesty 😅. He's worse than my wife with whisky in general ("It all tastes like floor cleaner")!
Bourbon is a tough one to get into, it's the virgin oak that's so dominant.
Nice episode and keep the awesome guests coming!

Poor Charlotte was facing a massive uphill battle with Jake in the episode!! Really enjoyed listening to her knowledge of the brand.
Oh Jake!! Don’t think this will be up there with your favourite tasting. Squirmed you way through it. Brutal. Stevie was loving it 🤣 If it makes you feel better I have the same issue picking flavours out of all whisky and I’m a chef who can easily do it with food/beer etc. Drives me bat shit crazy. 😤 I just know I like it. 😉🤣

I had to chuckle at this episode the slights and digs at bourbon and I get it, for me I struggle to drink it straight but I really enjoy it in cocktails so I always have a bottle on the shelf and I just mix up brands for variety. Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve are my favorite so far.

I haven’t tasted it myself, but the cellar aged is HIGHLY sought after here in the states. Going for about 400 pounds. with that said I’m not a massive fan of bourbon myself and there are few that really do it for me. Next time I come to the UK I’ll have. To bring you guys some samples. Honestly, I do feel that for the most part bourbon does better in cocktails and does need to be at higher ABV.

Good choice of review and interesting guest in Charlotte. Jeff’s also great value. Wasn’t something I was interested in tbh but Jake’s honesty throughout this is admirable, and makes the video. Is bourbon trauma a thing? Made me laugh. Great remark Stevie.

Another great episode. I’m on the Jake train when it comes to bourbon but to be honest I was the same way when I first starting with scotch. I’m still open to trying new things and if there’s one thing I’ve learned from scotch is that your tastebuds can change. All we ask is that people keep an open mind and be respectful of what’s in the glass.

Bourbon to me, whether is rye or wheated brings the anise or licorice flavors. Others have that interesting banana (others call it maple) notes hint hint Tennessee whiskey. Agreed with Jake, at least my palate can't find more dimensions than one or two from regular bourbons.

Great episode and really interesting to hear about Makers history. Charlotte was great to listen to and clearly passionate about the Makers brand. BUT, I'm with Jake, I've tried hard to like Bourbon, but I just don't get it and having a sweet tooth, I thought it would be an obvious go-to for me. Clearly my issue as bourbon is a huge market and loved by a lot of people, its just not for my palate.

Content-wise - loved it. Maker's cs is one of my favorite bourbons, so it was interesting for me to hear more about MM from Charlotte. Plus, it's funny and fascinating how Jake, with his developed palate, can't find flavors in MM)

F*ck me Jake. Dinny hold back pal will ya 🤣. Bet I have a bourbon that might swing it for you ! William larue Weller is unreal also. Tbh I went through a stage of only drinking bourbon for about 2 months and only then did I start to pick out the nuance of bourbons. They can feel samey at times otherwise. Maybe that’s the key. 👍

Only joking, but I do find it one dimensional and quite dull. Tried quite a few but never really done anything for me unless in cocktail form. Tried a couple of iterations of Balcones American Single Malt though - absolutely delicious, well worth a try.
Enjoyed this episode a lot more than I enjoy bourbon though, entertaining stuff, slainte

lot's of misinformation about Maker's Mark from the rep. Wheat bourbons had been around for ages like Weller ,Old Fitzgerald and others and it is said that Samuel's original Maker's Mark was so bad that they had Pappy come in and help them create a good bourbon. That's the story of Maker's Mark but they probably don't want the reps. telling about Pappy because of competition with other wheated bourbons
