Good to see Jayac talking through his journey, we both got into whisky via that little whisky Mecca in Brighton. Regret not picking up a handfill myself now seeing him talking about it.
Gents. I really enjoyed this episode. Thank you Jayac for sharing your whisky journey. Your humble openness to learn is something we can all aspire to no matter our experiences. I liked how you gradually revealed the final dram. To taste without any preconceived agendas is exciting and a true test to your personal tasting experiences. Not wrong, not right, just your take.
Great episode guys. Loved hearing Jayac’s whisky story and some great bottles too. Will be looking out for a couple of them. It’s very refreshing to listen to you about whisky notes. It’s never been a strong point for me. And I’ve definitely shied away from tasting and shows because of this. Well I’m booked to go to my first independent bottlers show this September and can’t wait. Thanks again for being so inclusive and welcoming.
amazing! thanks for joining in and being a part of our community. so great to hear that you're moving forward in your whisky journey - just be confident and keep enjoying yourself! sláinte my friend
Loved this episode! Great to hear Jayac journey and found it very relatable to my own experience. Agreed massively about the point around news distillery over shooting on that first release pricing. And another episode referring to Stevie and Jake’s hotel experience! 😂
Props to Jayac. I'm just coming out of my whisky snob phase and instead of thowing newbies into Octomore and giggling I'm now more likely to suggest Campbeltown Loch. It's been a couple of decades but maybe I'm finally beginning to to enjoy my whisky more.
Interesting to hear other people's experiences with whisky and how they got into it! Great ep! I am still missing trying any Springbank so I think I defenitely need to try the Campbeltown Loch to start with for sure!
I started my journey with Johnnie Black, eventually the gold and blue, then Bruichladdich 15 and Highland Park 18. There’s so much out there these days that the journey is never ending.
Great to see Jayac back on your RUclips channel! Nice chat. Also, sometimes it's nice to go back to tasting beginners' whiskies, but with more awareness and experience than before. It allows you to appreciate them more, understanding their strengths and weaknesses.
couldn't agree with you more Simon! like watching a movie you haven't seen since you were a kid and finding a whole load of jokes that went completely over your head originally
Love The Whisky Amateur - I think we're at similar points in our journey so find his content very relatable. Interestingly both the Benriach 10 and The Glenlivet 12 are two of the first drams I recommend to new starters so to see them as the first two here is a bit of validation 😆 - Cheers! 🥃
thanks for getting involved my fellow bearded enthusiast! great to hear that you enjoyed the content and are also spreading your love of whisky. sláinte!
If you want to buy a Springbank 15 in Taiwan you’ll be parting with 175quid! It’s maybe my favorite from the core range that I don’t need to sell organs for, but it’s just beyond reasonable and I can see how prices and availability can put people off what is a great whisky. Early journey whisky is a tough one, I’d typically suggest newer whisky drinkers avoid new distillery’s as their price to quality ratio can be quite out of whack however, Lagg really fucking impressed me (as a more experienced drinker), and I think the price to quality ratio is so good I struggle to think of anything better in that range. I just don’t see how anyone could go wrong.
Hi gents, thanks for another whisky conversation with cool guest and nice whisky line up! Never had a chance to buy a bottle of Springbank 15, have try it, but never seen bottle available (by distillery recommended price) so, can't wait for tomorrow. I'm doing a trip to the Campbeltown, should take me about 6 and a half hours, and hope that their shelves will be full of interesting releases for me. All the best! 👍
Great episode, loved this whisky journey. Talkin' bout Ardnamurchan, maybe that would be a great episode idea? Also, I still think that Jake looks like Kamaji from Spirited Away 😅
happy to get Ardnamurchan into the lineup for you JJ! just looked up Kamaji as well as I have no idea what you're talking about - not sure whether to take that as an insult or not!
@@TheWhiskyBaron That would be awesome! I feel like they're doing great things, but do agree that they'll come into their own around the 12yo age mark. Nooooo, definitely not an insult! He's a cool character from Spirited Away, so don't worry my dude 😅 It's an amazing movie, would recommend having a watch.
nice episode. jayac brought an interesting line up. i like my cask and high strenght whisky's. when sitting down to enjoy them. and ofcourse willing to share with friends. but when sitting with non whisky friends an easy sipper like arran 10 is good. because jou are not distracted by the whisky.
Whiskey pricing in bars is a huge turn off. Im curious how a dram is priced, seems to go exponentially up, leaving a lot of decent, but very common, bottles untouched.
Last year in Galway I had a single shot of Yellow Spot. Nearly passed out at €11.50 for a single dram. Crazy mark up and it’s everywhere unfortunately.
@@seanzealony9499 sorry to say that 11.50 is probably reasonable enough for a Yellow Spot Sean. it's great when you find places that let you bring your own bottles and pay corkage
Loving this episode 👍🥃

big ups CYWL! and do you mean The English handfill?

CL is a great go to for a newbie. I still love the look of disgust when someone recoils from an Octomore style dram though!

The majority of Springbank in auction are not from your average flipper trying to make a few pounds, but most are retailers sending cases to auction.

great episode
It's like a dance-off but with more involvement of beards
Arran 10 and an LBD bottling on the same episode 😍🥃😍
not a bad lineup ey Jack!
Its been so long since ive had the springbank 15. Just cannot get hold of it.
I have only tried the 10 and the 15 out of their collection
The whisky consultants. That you could get away with 😉
Cries in American knowing Springbank 15 is no less than $150 over here...😢...ok I did do it once...

most bars will be looking for a pour cost between 20-25%
