We had the exact same thing happen with Maker's 101 in our Advent Tournament back in 2022! That's a surprisingly tasty whiskey. 46 is the whiskey we recommend to newer whiskey drinkers who don't want to break the bank. Really enjoyed this video!
Their cask strength is awesome.
Maker’s101 or 46 for me.
It’s my favorite
An old unopened bottle of Maker's Mark sitting in my bar for years started my Bourbon journey. That first bottle was cherry cobbler and toasted marshmallows......Now I don't have a drinking problem,...just a collecting problem. Great review of the GOAT whisky.
My whiskey collection could easily become a problem…..😂
Exactly bourbon is something else. More of a collection problem than just drinking to get numb. Cheers 🥃
The distillery is worth visiting for a tour. Pretty grounds. Dipping your bottle in the gift shop is cool
I visited once and dipped my own bottle. They got mad I didn’t want the wax to run down. I turned that thing until it cooled to it was a solid line at the bottom.
I like to trim the wax on the bottles I get from the local grocery store
Beautiful campus, great tour
Love the content as always. Have you guys ever done (or considered doing) a “namesake” blind? Something where you’d take namesake bourbon for several distilleries and blind them against one another. Regular makers mark, buffalo trace, wild Turkey (101), Elijah Craig 94, etc. Would be fun to see the lower end daily drinkers go head to head!
Loved this video guys. Makers has always been my favorite, starting in college when I was getting into old fashioned, and 46 has been one of my daily drinkers forever. I feel like most bourbon people look down on Makers because they don't have the huge proof points, but it always does great in blinds. Combine that with consistency and down the line fair pricing, just tough to beat.
Makers is about my favorite family of bourbons. I bounce back and forth for daily drinkers between the 46 and CS. But on a hot summer afternoon, nothing beats a Makers Mule with regular Makers...Another great Makers video.
Great show, guys. Over time, I've developed a great fondness for the Maker's lineup. I always have a 101 on hand as both a mixer and a straight pour. And boiled peanuts are the absolute best. So good!
So happy to see another distillery review! Easily my favorite series and maybe my favorite distillery so I'm stoked for this one.
Love the 46. Always buy that over the basic Maker's. Just think it's a little nicer. Another good wheated bourbon is Larceny. Such a good price, I often get the family size (1.75l) lol.
Boiled peanuts! A Georgian classic. Glad you guys got to enjoy a state staple while you were visiting
How serendipitous - I brought my 46 and CS bottles to my gf's last night to finish off. They were both very low, and while she loves 46, she hadn't tried the cask strength before. MM CS is one of the best deals in whiskey, IMO.
46 Cask Strength is always on my buy list! I jumped in with the 101 very early on, progressed with the 46 and FAE series, and now I'm hooked on the 46CS. One of those brands thats everywhere, and while I went 18 months without seeing a 46CS, I'm even starting to see those a little more frequently. They're one of the OGs................and it pains me to say that I haven't bought a bottle in a while! Cheers and great Review!
Great review! I took a bourbon trail visit a couple of weeks ago and visited the Makers Mark distillery. Our tour guide let us sample some White Dog- the distilled spirit before it is put into a charred oak barrel- 125 proof. It tasted good! He said it was the same as moonshine, except the tax had been paid!
Maker's Mark was my first favorite bourbon - it was the first one that really got my attention. My palate has moved away from the Maker's profile, which is too bright for my taste, but it is good, affordable bourbon.
I see y'all have the old 46 bottle. I'm working on a bottle of 46 these days, and it has the standard shape and paper label that they're using now.
11:50 A good cinnamon roll is already so buttery that putting on butter is gilding refined gold. Y'all need to try the cinnamon rolls from the Frontier Restaurant here in Albuquerque (they're also available at Golden Pride Chicken restaurants). There are none better.
Maker's started my bourbon journey, I love all of their products I've tried.
The 101 is great. The older gold labelled bottles are even better than the newer tan sticker bottles. Cheers guys!
"Blasted it the throat " huh,,glad you came back from that 😂😂
He knew what he did but he soldiered on.😂😊
My first MM was 46 Cask Strength. Most people seem to think that's their best. I absolutely love it! A little worried that I started at the top and won't like the rest so much by comparison, but with their pricing being reasonable, it's definitely worth the gamble. Will probably try the 101 next.
I tried 46cs, regular cs, and a private Select and they're all fantastic. I really can't decide a favorite so they're all worth trying
Maker's Cask Strength is phenomenal. Where I am, it's only $5 less than Rare Breed, so the value isn't quite as high as it is in other regions, but I still really love it.
It's a much easier "daily" sipper than Rare Breed, so if I'm looking for an easy pour I'll usually pick it over Rare Breed, even though I overall like Rare Breed more.
Great video as always ❤
Basic MM started my whiskey journey. It was the first whiskey i had not as a mixer, just on rocks. That was almost a decade ago and still today its my go to if im not sure what I want. Its always a pleasant easy sipper that tastes good no matter what ive had to eat or if my pallette is just being weird that day. By far my favorite bottle under $30
Would love to see you guys do something like this with the Michter’s lineup
I have the regular Maker's and the 46, both are fantastic. Saw the Cask Strength on sale for $36.99, have to go get that next time at Woodman's.
Very nice distillery to visit too. Beautiful grounds and buildings.
I started drinking MM in the mid 1980s. Great bourbon with great consistency and availability. You will always find multiple open MM bottles on my shelf and a bunch of unopened ones in stock.
Makers Mark cask strength is one of my favourites and often overlooked by people for more expensive bottles. Vastly different expression than the regular 90 proof stuff.
Booze is like art, there is no right answer there is just what the individual likes. And I like makers mark, it’s my go to, it’s my constant. Makers 46.
I haven't had the 46 CS yet, but yeah, MM 46 is so good and I get it for $28.
Love Standard makers for mixing and the 46 one of my favourite sippers. Yet to try the other offerings…..but I will
Lol, I read "The Box Car Children" in second grade. I loved it! I wanted to be a hobo when I grew up for years...😂😂
I've had a great experience with some of the private selections and the regular I love using as a mixer. I still need to dive into their more limited releases, hopefully one day I will be able to try the cellar aged! One of my favorite things to mix it with is Orange Tiger from Toledo Spirits. I typically mix 2 parts Maker's Mark with 1 part Orange Tiger and call it Tiger's Mark.
I don't drink a lot of Makers Mark, but keep a bottle of the standard Makers on hand for when a friend visits. The Makers 46 and 101 proof are my favorites of the Makers lineup.
I love Maker Mark Cask strength. It has the same profile as OWA for me and so far has finished ahead of OWA in blinds
Had to pause on the moment he noticed it himself. Priceless 😂
I have recently started my bourbon journey and found a MM 46 for only 20.00. I love it as an everyday sipper. I am from GA and have in laws from IN. I recently introduced them to boiled peanuts and they weren’t big fans.
Absolutely a wonderful place to visit. We'll be there in a couple days and have been there a couple times previously.
Started with Makers 46 as the house bourbon and have now started to branch out. Great channel! 🍻
And yes it’s worth the money and one of the most beautiful grounds on the bourbon trail
Great review! I’m not a big MM fan but I do enjoy the BRT-01, BEP, and my favorite MM is a local store pick. Cheers!
I am absolutely a Maker's Mark fanboy, love everything they have put out! Still searching for that Cellar Aged though!!!!
I can’t confirm or deny that I may have 7-10 different bottles from Maker’s Mark. MM was also my first distillery tour and remains the standard I judge others by.
I do enjoy the Makers lineup! The 46 Cask Strength is great. The 101 is good as well. I will have to try that in anold fashion.
Loved the boxcar children books as a kid. Read them all.
Terrific video guys! I learned a lot! I hope you both have a terrific week! 🙂
I love the 46 & just picked up the Makers Cask. Look forward to opening it soon
Huge Makers fan. I love all their offerings, but prefer the Cask Strength, although not easily found sometimes in my area. I heard they were coming out with a Rye? Not sure if that is true, but I would love to get a bottle of it. Great video.
Trenton won me over with the boxcar children reference. He just touched on a core memory of mine from when I was 4 (Trenton has always been one of my 2 favorite whiskeytube commentators ;) ).
Makers is a go to that never disappoints. Love the 46. Cheers
I have their 46 and I just got their “Batch of Honor” deployment 001. Bottle 189/246. Proof is 108.9. I’m really excited to try it, but am waiting for Memorial Day to crack it. If it falls flat, I have horse soldier barrel proof.
Here in the south boiled peanuts are a staple. They are everywhere, including gas stations and most 7-11's, etc. stores. The ones at the roadside stands are usually the best. I stopped at a small roadside stand operated by an old gentleman in North Carolina and they were off the hook!!!!!!!!!!! You guys need to come south !!
Makers was the first bourbon I ever tried after only trying Tennessee Whiskey. I still love Tennessee whiskey but i remember the holy shit this is good reaction i had when i first tried Maker's.
Makers 46 was my come to American Whiskey moment after years sticking with Scotch and Irish Whiskey. Regular makers is a good mixer but just too raw and young for sipping. Makers 101 is a what the core MM should be. Spent a long time drinking the MM store stave picks and some are just phenomenal and high proof too. The CS offerings are excellent. Gotta track down a cellar aged this year.
If you’re in the Indy area crown liquors sells makers 46 for the same price as the base. 19.98 for a 750ml. Crazy good deal for makers 46
I'm just now starting to see the 101 on shelves in NC
Makers BRT-02 is my favorite
Just got a store pick with the description of citrus and velvety texture. Gonna open it up on my b day this week
Forgot to ask when this video was released last week, but are there any of the “Kent’s Pick” Private Selects left? I’m from Wisconsin, and you guys definitely need to make it up to Driftless Glen, J Henry, Wollersheim, Yahara Bay, and Dancing Goat.
I've yet to try a better Coke mixer than Maker's Mark. It's delighful and dirt cheap for the value. I'd love to try the premium MM offerings one day but they're hard to come by here. Love you guys.
Makers fan here. If I'm at a bar with a small selection there is still usually Makers. I also recently discovered I like it as a mixer with Coke or Mountain Dew. Some how I ran out of Jack #7 and you know how hard that is to find.😅
I have thought for a while that Maker's Cask Strength was one of the best deals in Whiskey. Two weeks ago, I could get her at Total Wine for $31. Last week, they bumped the price to $51. No exaggeration. For $51, I can get Rare Breed. I like the 46 general release, especially at Costco prices - usually $19. I miss the Wood Finishing series - holy smoke, those were some good releases. I have about half of a bottle of BTR-22 that was amazing!!! Can't get that any more.
I wish I lived near your Costcos. For $19 I'd buy the crate of Maker's 46!
MM 46 for $19? 🤨 Is it a 375ml?
@@FakingANerve- Nope. $18.99 at Costco. I see Knob Creek Rye and Knob Creek 9 for $19 as well. The main reason I go whiskey hunting at Costco is that even if I don't find something high end. I am always coming home with something.
@@Abby_Normal_1969 Where is this? 1987? 😄
@FakingANerve - Seattle. The last couple of times I got Maker's Cask Strength, it was $31.99 and $32.99. Then one week ago it was $51.99.
I picked up a bottle last night. Looking forward to some sipping
I like the 46 and 101. Cheers guys
Thank you for doing a review of MM, my go to bourbon. Lightly Grill that cinnamon bun on a flat top with some butter. You get the butter taste and the “crunch”. 😋😋
Awesome video, would love to see more of these types of videos
Oh cajun boiled peanuts are a must if you come down south.
I’m from SC and it took me a long time to embrace boiled peanuts, but they’re awesome. Especially with some Cajun season. Great for the beach, football games, etc
Boiled peanuts are definitely an acquired taste. I got to have mine hot because once they get cold, they are not very good IMO.
Last week I fell in love with the cask strength
Unfortunately I do not enjoy wheated bourbons. Makers Mark and Weller are two that people told me I would absolutely love and I ended up having to suffer through both bottles. Now 46 was okay, I didn't mind that as much. But still not the love affair I have with Buffalo Trace, or a barrel select like Russell's Reserve or Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. I ended up giving half the bottle of Makers Mark to my son to finish. Not sure what about wheated I don't like as much. Could it be because my pallet is more of a sweet??
Can't find Makers 101 out here in ID/UT.
"It is of course 46 times 2 is 94 proof" - Trenton math 4:15
Great video ! I’d really like y’all to do a Still Austin distillery review 😊 any chance we might see one sometime ?
Great video! Have to agree that these are really good options.
The 46 Cask Strength is $73 by me (Miami, FL)…I’d love to try it but that’s a tough pill to swallow when I don’t know if I’ll even like it thaaaat much
Yeah prices are wild here in S FL unfortunately. Total Wine ends up being a total ripoff most of the time
As usual...I agree with Kurt's order.
Maker's Mark BRT-02 was one of the best whiskeys I've ever had. 46 is great too. Surprisingly I didn't like the cask strength 46 I got. Must have gotten a bad bottle or something as it had a weird burnt taste on the finish. I enjoyed the cask strength regular better.
I was able to get my hands on the newest old Fitzgerald for the 25th anniversary aged 13year. Would you like a sample to review?
add russells single barrel to that blind because its also 110 proof id love to see where it stacks up against the 46cs and rare breed with a slightly higher price point
SLB Classics
0:19 Distillery review time!
1:37 majestic kings? And Trenton holds his tongue??
2:29 Kurt likes a bit lower proof
2:37 boxcar children throwback
3:38 the end of the 4 video series? Maybe
4:17 Trenton doesn’t know how to math 46*2 = 92
4:37 Trenton goes straight for the bottle
4:50 story time with Trenton
5:04 shame on trenton wasting good bourbon
5:54 gotta keep in mind the price to quality ratio
6:29 Kurt only speaks to his opinion
7:36 Trenton got what in the throat?
8:00 Trenton had to talk smack on the WT
8:16 never would’ve known you messed up
8:35 another 46 magically appears
9:44 even Trenton can’t keep up with the bottles and labels
10:03 will be ever actually introduce the 46 cask strength?
10:41 Kurt knows not to waste good bourbon
10:58 got a challenge coming up
11:45 lol mom speaks for herself
11:52 Trenton may have in fact been adopted
12:10 crunchy?!? Trenton is digging a hole
12:32 boiled peanuts? Can’t knock it until you try it
13:11 Kurt story: first beer! All grown up now
13:40 nothing like a little more asbestos in the nosing notes
14:14 it was finally introduced!
14:48 and there’s the endorsement and recommendation
15:47 gotta talk about the specialty 1,001 stave profiles
16:41 nice sign off and nod
Scored some 46 for $25.99/750 the other day, That's a great deal. Cask strength and the Select versions are outstanding, IMO.
I'm never without a 46 and a Cask Strength. I haven't been able to get a 46 Cask Strength in NC. Hoping to find one in a few weeks in SC.
You can find them here. Not every store, but you will find it if you stop in a few places.
Markers 101 is my favorite daily drinker. 46 is not bad.
46 was my second bottle of bourbon ever. It was the first sipper that really wowed me
Similar to Buffalo Trace, normal Makers Mark is also 80 proof here in Australia, although the 46 is the normal 94 proof
Kurt’s right about the cinnamon rolls when you get them warm!
The private select barrel picks are so delicious 👍🏻
My go to for an Old Fashioned, Manhattan or neat. Can’t wait to visit Loretta, KY 🥃🥃
Loretta is so worth the trip! Beautiful grounds, great people, and some very nice bourbon! The story behind Maker's Mark is awesome. No spoilers...enjoy the trip!
Weirdly enough, I enjoy the lower proof 46 over the 46 cask strength as a neat pour. The 46 cask strength is amazing in an old fashioned though.
hard to go wrong with Makers Mark, they have some great mixers and sippers
My local Total Wine has the regular MM46 for $19.99, not even labeled as a Sale or anything. It's cheaper than the basic MM at $24.99! I've been stocking up cuz I feel like there's no way they leave it that low forever.
Looking forward to the results of this one! Cheers from Winnipeg! 🥃
I enjoy everything from Maker's Mark! 🥃
These and the blinds are my favorite videos 🤌
Makers 46 and 101 really open up when you add a few drops of water and wait 5-10 minutes before you sip.
What is the 46 bottle on the far right? Do they ever say?
Heyo Makers was my first whiskey, specifically M46
If you guys take a quick trip to liquor stop in highland, you can get 46 cask for about $50-55. It’s been there every time I’ve gone
Trenton and Kurton never miss!
I always find that if you have a cheap bourbon to start it makes the more exspensive seem way morte tastier
I’m confused what’s the difference between Cask Strength and 46 Cask Strength?
The first is regular Maker's Mark at barrel proof, and the second is Maker's Mark 46 at barrel proof.
How do you make a cinnamon roll without butter to help goop up the sugar and cinnamon? And agree with the Maker's being a solid bourbon.
Didn't realize boiled peanuts were a regional thing haha. Hello from Florida!
Makers V Weller Fight! Let’s see the lineups go head to head
You need to try taking a cinnamon bun and putting it in a pan with butter. It puts a nice crust on the bun. Nothing like it.
