- Today we go on one of the easiest hikes in the DMV but it also one of the coolest! The Bay View Trail at Mason Neck Park takes you through the forest, past the protected wetlands and then over the marshy waters via boardwalk...culminating in a secret little beach in Fairfax County on Belmont Bay that not many people even know about.
Why is this a secret? Because it is behind 3 barriers to entry. First, it is at Mason Neck State Park which is in Lorton, VA but like on a tucked away peninsula, second it costs $10 to get in, and 3rd, you have to walk some of the trail to get to it. The results are a pretty fun, very easy and super amazing day out, pretty close to home! If you are looking to go hiking in Fairfax County, this is the spot!

Great video as always! I’ve lived in Fairfax County all 45 and 1/2 years of my life and I’ve never been to Mason Neck. Maybe I’ve heard of it? Lorton used to be known for it’s beautiful view of the prison.
I’ve actually been here maybe like 15 or 20 years ago, but I didn’t remember the beach area or the hike. Mason neck is awesome. I need to go out there more. I always get turned away by the $10 entry fee. They do have a season pass for $85 for every state park but then I’d have to go eight times to make it worth my while so I haven’t bought that pass yet but I should just buy it. I bought the national park one for $85 and I’ve already used it a bunch.
This one was awesome. I was so excited to see all the scenery. I used like 4 different cameras, walked the trail a few times, picked up a costume and really went all out. And the whole thing was a last minute unplanned trip! Hope to find more cool spots like this!
This was a new one for me, thanks for sharing, my family and I will definitely go.
The close beach we always go to is Colonial Beach. If you have never been there, I highly recommend it for the summer. The family has loved going there for years. Never crowded, very close for a day trip, bring a picnic and buy ice cream from the vendors or shops.
It is on the Potomac where it meats the Chesapeake. It is maybe a mile of sand beach, wide enough to seem like a real beach beach. We bring a canopy/ umbrella and hang out in the shade all day there. Very relaxing, and a quaint little town.
Good to know and now added to the list.
I’ve always wanted to go. Hopefully this summer I will.
Great video!!
Cool check it out!
Thanks for sharing.🙏
Thanks for watching!
Well I guess it’s not a secret anymore. Lol, just kidding, nice adventure 👍
Fantastic thumbnail bud, these shots and overall composition are phenomenal! Gorgeous and unique trail!
Thanks, I love the thumbnail on this one however the colors are not correct for drawing attention. It looks real cool but, its actually not as impactful as some of my others according to the stats. This was the best hike ever to film a video at, so many different terrains, it was hard not to get good shots! Thanks for watching!
Wow I didn’t know that place even existed
I feel like I had been here before, but only to the visitor center. Had no idea that trail was there and its really great.
Never seen it in fairfax. Woodbridge use to have nice spots by the potomac river.
This one is quieter than most of the Woodbridge spots because its kind of hidden away on a peninsula, so a lot less people come and mess with it. I do love to go to Leesylvania state Park though in Woodbridge where the beach is much beachier (but less secluded)
Have you been to Huntley meadows in Alexandria VA is a nice walk on a boardwalk, through swamp like area.
Thats def a good one, and I have tons of footage from there of Wildlife, turtles birds etc. I guess I never did a video for this channel on there. I must have done a video on that for my previous channel. I'll def hit that up.
Wow I never went there! Lived in the area, just moved. I loved Huntley Meadows though.
Huntley meadows is great, I feel Like I responded to this comment before, but RUclips says I didn't, lol, maybe I never hit send.
Is the trail handicap/wheelchair friendly?
The trail itself is not, I believe this beach section where people launch kayaks is but the trail itself has some dirt box staircases.
@@DMVAdventures Thank you so much for replying!
Great vid. We pull the boat up to many of those “private beaches”
Nice!
