The Weihrauch HW45 is a recoiling spring air pistol which can be very accurate when held properly but it takes practice and once mastered the pistol will become very accurate. I think the comparison is a little unfair. There's a trick to cure the low power which may go against the grain with some and that is to dry fire the pistol once on full power to seal the piston head thus restoring the gun's power. This is how the piston seal being ptfe is sized at the factory. Try shooting at full power and you will notice it will print low. But don't give up! Thanks for a great presentation.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to make it, I've got a couple of hw45s great guns . I've a feeling the power on that will creep up when it beds in
Great review Shane, I have an old BSA magnum in 22 in very clean order which is very accurate and I only paid £80 for it about 18 months ago, it was an absolute steal really but shoots really well. And I have the old Webley tempest stamped Birmingham which is in mint condition. But the gun I find more accurate and ease of shooting is my crosman 2240 which is in my game bag every day as I do my rounds on jobs for rat control checking my box traps and it’s never let me down. Obviously the other two are collectables and they will one day be handed down.
Great review Shane. I have had the Silver Star a couple of months now and my findings are:- Power was like yours but now after a couple of tins of pellets it has settled at 3.3 ft-lbs on half and 5.5 on full which is fine. It did diesel for a long time and the barrel was full of preservative oil like yours. I found it was much more accurate on full power, it seems to have more mussel flip on half power. I also got mysterious cuts on my fingers and eventually tracked it down to the rear fibre optic site which looked like they had melted the ends to keep in place. The edges were like razors, took my wife's emery board to the top edge and that sorted it . I am a wimp so shoot mine rested (soft bag) without any problems and can achieve 20mm groups at 10m. Keep up the good work. Dick
I put a TBT kit in mine and what a difference better to shoot and tighter groups you will need a spring compressor. And thanks for all the work you put in in making these videos.
Thanks Peter , I put a tbt drop in kit in my hw97 a couple o yrs ago , and what a difference, It shot very smooth , and speeded up the lock time, totally transferred the gun, thanks for the comment , I won’t have this hw 45 long enough to put a kit in it , but thanks for the comment buddy , take care Shane
Very good video mate. I had the 45 some weeks ago and took it back. I got full refund. Under powered. I have been pistol shooting for 4 months. Love it. I have the dirty Harry Smith and wesson revolver. Fabulous. I also have crossmam 2040 another brilliant pistol both co2. I shot an Air arms Alpa Pro last week. 10mtr target pistol. £800. Now that's a 10mtr target pistol pcp. 500 gram trigger pull. Love your videos but get rid of the 45 and take a look at the hw75 gas ram. Far superior. I'm 71 years old by the way. Thanks Brian , I find the rifle shooting abit boring and easy to 60 yards, shooting these pistols is a great challange , and rewarding and harder than it looks , quite a few of the Hw45 pistols seem to be underpowered that I’ve come across, what power was your doing then ?, and also I’m jealous, I really want to have a few shots with a proper high end pistol, and I’m unsure what to buy next yr for my 60th, there’s a lot of choice up to 2200 ish , I did consider the air arms , Any thoughts ? Thanks Shane
@@shaneweightman hi mate. i felt that i wanted to specialize at 10mtr target shooting as it seems you do. my HW45 was only putting out 4.5 foot pounds on full power. I thought well that was £375 and all over the place. The Alpha Pro is £830 but a very different animal. I shot one last week and it does not move. I dont think you will be happy with a standard pistol like Rexix or Snowpeak. I get the impression that you are very serious about your new found interest so if i were you i would just save up for the Air Arms Pro or a Hammerli. I will keep you informed re the Air Arms. Regards Brian
had the hw45 15 years ago..sold it and bought two new ones. yes very hard to be accurate with. open sight at 8 yards i cant get under 1.5 inch . fun and a good challenge and good practice indoor at winter. mine is the standard version, fits best f large hands. pellet rws super dome .
I’m shooting mine regular now and getting to really like it , it’s grown on me , I must admit , I have fitted a red dot at the min as I shoot my pistols at 12.6 mtrs ,and it tightens the groups very slightly, and although I’ve shot on full power , for some reason I’ve settled on low power , thanks for the comment Nils ,,, cheers Shane
My HW 45 was producing 3.8ft lbs on full power using"AA Diablo Field 8.4gr .177 with a headsize of 4.52". I returned pistol to Hull Cartridge for examination, They recommended using the pellet they test with and sent me samples to try, this was "Weihrauch ft exact 8.44gr pellets with a headsize of 4.53", What a difference the power output increased to just under 5.2ft lbs and hopefully after the breakin period it may increase a little more. Shane both pellets very accurate for me so hopefully trying different makes can help you achieve better accuracy.
I also have this gun in .177 - mine is the Black Star version, and it works for me😁I shoot mine with the iron sights and on full power. In terms of ft/lb, does over the 4 mark on full, so about the same. Mine is nice and accurate on HN Excite .177🥰
I have a hw45. Its very accurate. Much more so than i am. If ive shot it alot i can geg fairly good with it. If not shot it for a few months, then i cant hit a barn door with it.
Good vid old lad. Do rather like the look of the springer but that cp1 also seems a good bit of kit for the price. Looks like You’ve done pretty well using pistols as not the easiest
suggest you try a Baikal izh 46. single stroke pneumatic. the hw45 can be fairly accurate but it really requires disciplin but suddenly it starts to happen..stick w it. semi loose hold, two hands.
Thanks for the advice Nils , git rid of the 45 a few wks ago now , gonna get , or plan to buy high end pistol , for my 6o th next yr , if life’s still rockin , cheers buddy Shane
Morning Shane, I'm a fan of the CP range of pistol, though I've enjoyed the comparison with the Winerack, informative & entertaining as usual mate, looking forward to the MK3 Hortisia, be interesting to see what you think, Best Regards, Jon 👍 Hawkes Eye TV 👍😁
Yes Jon , must admit I’m a fan of the c02 pistols , rifles myself, cheap and fairly accurate fir the money , I have seen the mk3 Hortitsia close up and whilst it looks well built and interesting, it will never be a gun I own , as the mag box is stuck on the stock we’re my face would be , as I’m left handed , that review will be in the next 7 days when we get a half decent day , cheers buddy Shane
Heyup Shane, I saw the new Hortisia at the show and as lovely as it was something wasn't right about the build, I put it down to the block mag & lever, also puzzled as to how they're getting them out if Ukraine, I found out yesterday that they're now being made in Turkey, I've been checking it out, most of the adverts say Ukrainian designed or origin, I'm still doing due diligence but no definitive answer on the matter, cheers, Jon 👍😁
I doubt I could afford to sell it to be honest buddy , I gave 209 quid plus a gun I paid 229 for ,438 quid it’s effectively cost me , you can get that model new for around 379 , I’d be lucky if I got 300 for it , but thanks for the offer , shane
@@shaneweightman I assumed from the video that you weren’t going to keep it long. My bad if not. I’ve already got two HW45’s but I’d love a bronze star model.
