I. Am. Beyond excited for Desperado. One of my favorite movies ever made. Been waiting for this one to get the boutique treatment for a long long time. I'll be getting the trilogy set, and getting 'El Mariachi' and 'Once Upon A Time In Mexico' on blu-ray only doesn't bother me in the slightest. I know that even those blu-ray upgrades will be awesome and treated well by Arrow. Desperado is the one that really matters here, and Arrow went all the way with it. Damn man, first Conan and now this. Such an exciting time to be a physical media collector!

Between Criterion and the 4K (both excellent ways to see this film) I’m not over hyped for this release - what I would like to see is an updated Manhunter on 4K from someone like Arrow
I was in my early teens when I saw Clash & Wrath of the Titans & I really enjoyed them, so the limited edition set from Arrow is an instant buy for me!! 👍

Heathers has a nice steelbook Blu-ray edition that was put out some time ago. Yes, there is a steel edition, Ken. Artwork is outstanding. It's a 2-disc edition with artwork throughout. One of Christian Slater's mid '80s movies.
El Mariachi was shot on really cheap 16mm stock so I don't know that it really needs a 4k. Once Upon a Time in Mexico was one of the first films shot digitally using Sony HDW F900 cameras which were only 1080p resolution. There's no point in a 4k as it'd just be an upconversion, the film itself is a native 1080 resolution, there's nothing to be gained from a 4k version.
@@AcesHighStudios Most of those are upconversions from films that were finished at 2k, thus there is more data available to make them better than their blu-ray counterparts. But here we're talking about a film that is entirely native to 1080p, and primitive early 1080p cameras to boot.
@@jeffcunningham0389 I don't know if tremendous is the word I'd use. But there is an improvement to be sure. El Mariachi would probably look the most like Evil Dead since they both used the same camera and film stock. Though the budget for Evil Dead was about 10 times what El Mariachi's was and it did have an actual film crew. But again, is it a huge leap? Meh. I could see a case made for El Mariachi in 4k, though. It's also possible the original elements aren't in good enough shape for it. This was low budget filmmaking even by low budget filmmaking standards.
Jörg Buttgereit is maybe the most controversial and notorious filmmaker from Germany. During the 80s and 90s Germany was very, very strict and sensitive regarding violence in movies and media. For example Halloween 2 was actually still banned in its uncut version until this very year. Those four movies are very influential and historically important, but quite far out regarding their topics.Surprisingly his movies never were formally banned, because he could successfully claim, his movies are art. If it’s Art in Germany you are safe. If it’s just entertainment or exploitation you often had a hard time regarding the local censorship. Let’s say, those kind of films really couldn’t be made today. Greetings from Germany! Chris
Don’t feel bad, Ken. I’m a horrible double dipper when it come to Silence of the Lambs. A new version comes out, I get it. Already preordered this Arrow set. I went with the Arrow store exclusive.
I'm glad the Mexico trilogy has the original artwork covers with it. The original 3 are way better than the new trope of making every movie group's artwork looking identical... Anyone who has Vudu knows what I'm talking about.
Just pre ordered silence of the lambs, I been waiting for an edition like this. And I had same reaction to clash of titans box set as you when I realised what it was 😂 😢
Silence of the Lambs is my favorite movie of all time. Take my money Arrow. I’ll probably go with the original artwork. The Arrow UK release looks very similar to the SOTL we got with the 4K release.
Desperado is a great film. It has to be one of my favorite Salma Hayek movies. Not sure why that Pendejo guy is on the steelbook. Didn't he just play a big pussycat with a sword in some other movie? Or was it a cartoon? Not sure. Nice work Ken 👍
Once Upon a Time in Mexico was shot using early HD cameras, so it should be fairly easy to convert to 4K (no film negative to scan first). El Mariachi, however was shot on 16mm film and edited on VHS. I don't know if Robert still has access to the original master. Regardless, I think all three films are still owned by Sony, so I don't think it's a rights issue. I was just about to buy the Blu-ray steelbook of Desperado for $14, but now I'll definitely wait for the 4K. Still unsure about the From Dusk till Dawn 4K. It's owned by Paramount. Only time will tell.
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 Yes. He initially assumed El Mariachi would only go as far as the Spanish home video market. When it made a big impression at Sundance, Sony (Columbia/Tri-Star at the time) bought the distribution rights and gave him $7 million and a full-blown crew to make Desperado. He talks about this in the DVD commentaries on both films and his excellent diary/book, Rebel Without A Crew.
El Mariachi was filmed on really cheap 16 mm stock, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico was filmed digitally in HD. I'm not too sure there is much the 4K format has to offer for those two movies.
Definitely a bummer it wasn’t the OG Clash of the Titans. The OG 4K seems right up Arrow Video’s alley. I’d love for them to Jason and the Argonauts 4K as well.

That Desperado steel looks amazing, the price not as much. **Edit: ** I see why. the price I'm looking at now is $14.99 higher than it is listed in Ken's video.
Desperado is a great 90s film. Not sure what I'm gonna do yet...I have the old disc...I'm good with the kino Silence of the Lambs and the old Heathers' disc.
The Woman is part of a trilogy. Offspring/The Woman/Darling. Kino did a poor job on Silence of the lambs, Arrow have confirmed they have fixed the colour timing issue
I don’t have any of the Mariachi films on Bluray, so this still works for me. But yeah, they all should have been in 4K. My guess is just Miramax trying to extort an exorbitant amount for the 4K rights, and Arrow can only afford to spend on one. Harvey’s got a lot of legal fees to pay.
I don’t really see a problem with El Mariachi and Once Upon a time in Mexico not getting 4Ks one was shot with 16mm for $7,000 so the upgrade quality not so high and the other was shot on 1080p cameras so never gonna be a true 4K

The woman is a sequel to the offspring and the better of the 2. Pollyanna Mcintosh is Jadus on TWD . That's her on the cover.. they are based on Jack Ketchum books
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 Maybe true but it bugs me when pretentious film critics do a top 10 horror list and half the films are ones where horror isn't the point. (Silence of the Lambs, Jaws, The Babadook, Sixth Sense, Phantom of the Opera, etc.) Seem like those critics don't really like the genre.
I was excited for the titles, and then I decided to make lemonade as my wallet won't be hurting. I would have so bought the original Clash of the Titans. Since it is not, no buy. Mexico Trilogy caught my eye, but since only Desperado is 4K, another no buy. Silence of the Lambs 4K I am good with my Kino release and don't need the extra features. Arrow August releases don't get any of my money.
Many don't know about the issues with the Kino disc... You don't have to think outside of the box to know that Arrow's UHD of Silence of the Lambs is likely going to blow the Kino out of the water. First, it's known that Kino messed up the first 20 minutes by placing the first reel in the wrong color space. Meaning that the first 20 minutes of the movie in HDR is desaturated. The movie is already very gritty in its cinematography, but somehow Kino was given a bad master. Not many people actually talk about this. Kino certainly avoids this fact. HDR is supposed to have superior color. But Kino's disc was graded wrong. Fidelity in Motion have already confirmed that they did work on the movie and got that first part of the movie the way it is supposed to look. Sure, the Kino's resolution is pretty good. But the color is definitely desaturated. Just compare the UHD with the Blu-ray that came with it. The Blu-ray's color timing, color grade, looks much better on the first reel than the UHD. But if that doesn't bother you, there's no need to upgrade from the Kino. Second, Kino's stereo audio is a down mix of the 5.1. Arrow has taken the time to get the audio right. It's been mentioned that the Criterion has the proper audio but has less than stellar compression. Now, we can have both better saturated color timing for the first reel, and the actual stereo surround. But if proper audio and picture quality doesn't matter to you, stick with the Kino. I wish more knew about this. And the fact that Kino wouldn't admit to their mistake. Well, Arrow has confirmed it and it is going to be fixed.
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 Most people don't care. That's why most people don't even know about the tech problems. However, I am not a tech nerd. But I care about picture and audio quality. So, your projection is wrong.
The Kino Lorber release of Silence of The Lambs is flawed. The first TWENTY MINUTES of the movie is in the wrong color space. And the 2.0 is not the original 2.0 mix. It is a down mix of the 5.1 mix. Now Arrow has stated that they are providing a "newly restored original lossless 2.0 stereo track". It has been reported that Arrow has corrected the color space issue. THIS WILL BE THE GO TO EDITION!!!!
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 You are a fountain of misinformation man. Yes they did screw up the first 20 minutes color-wise and screwed up the sound as well. Arrow has already confirmed they fixed it.

@@scaps2200 Apparently it was MGM’s fault, but Kino did nothing to correct. Plus they used a less than stellar audio track. Criterion’s is supposedly much better (haven’t heard it myself though).
Yes but not in the uk and not every 4K is available in other countries.
@@scaps2200
Documented well all over the web. And Arrow even said they fixed that color space error in a tweet 😉
YES. Please buy Heathers. It's a 80's classic and a movie that probably could not be made today.
i assume silence of the lambs will have a better stereo mix which how it was mixed originally. The kino Lorber stereo mix wasnt all that great… hope Arrow delivers sonething better… but if it sais newly restored stereo mix i am confident that this is gonna be better…
I believe his name is pronounced “Yorg Boot-Ger-A”
The woman is a sequel to the offspring and the better of the 2. Pollyanna Mcintosh is Jadus on TWD . That's her on the cover.. they are based on Jack Ketchum books
Silence of the Lambs is not horror but a suspense/crime-thriller. It has a dark creepiness that enters horror territory. Yet, not quite horror.
It’s horror, it’s psychological and a thriller which can indeed be a horror movie. So is Se7en, The Terminator and Jaws. But opinions right?
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 Maybe true but it bugs me when pretentious film critics do a top 10 horror list and half the films are ones where horror isn't the point. (Silence of the Lambs, Jaws, The Babadook, Sixth Sense, Phantom of the Opera, etc.) Seem like those critics don't really like the genre.
The Desperado 4k Arrow steel is on pre-order @ Diabolik for $39.99.
I was waiting so long for the Mexico Trilogy, but Blu Rays?? Nope.
You will need a shower after watching Nekromantik.
You're tired of the argument that Silence of the Lambs isn't considered a horror movie by everyone? Gotta let people have their own opinion, dude.
Yea I don’t care I’ll stick with my Kino version. Only the tech nerds care.
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 Most people don't care. That's why most people don't even know about the tech problems. However, I am not a tech nerd. But I care about picture and audio quality. So, your projection is wrong.
@@Nope2022HugeTheWarningFan naw you’re just a sheep to feel relevant
He IS letting people have their own opinion. His opinion doesn’t cause others to not have their own.
How have you not seen Heathers Ken? It’s a cult classic but yea I just preordered the Mexico Trilogy and the Titans films. I can wait on Heathers.
Yea who cares?
@@blackphilipalvarez1305, obviously, some people do!

KINO release of Silence was amazing. But a 4K release of Desperado and Heather's. Hell yes!!
Actually it was bad. They screwed up the opening scene pretty bad. The Criterion blu ray looks way better.
@@thischannelisdeletednaw it’s really not
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 It is actually.
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 You are a fountain of misinformation man. Yes they did screw up the first 20 minutes color-wise and screwed up the sound as well. Arrow has already confirmed they fixed it.
The Mexico set its always a rights issue chh and cereal at midnight has done interviews with guys who work at these places and it's always rights issues I'm ok with it its not a problem to me I don't see how it is
My already poor wallet took a hit this morning 🥴
A lot of those special features o the silence of the lambs feel like straight up filler.
Not 1 chunky boxset w/ booklet. Typical. I’ll be holding off on them for august. Some good stuff but they are cheeping out on their stuff lately. I’ll buy arrow when they get back to chunky sets with booklet
What are you talking about? There’s like 4 big boxes. Lol
@@midlevelmedianot 1 booklet. Just posters and cards which who wants that
Yea 4 big boxes with nothing in them just amaray cases and poster
The OFFSPRING is the first movie and The WOMAN is the second movie this is a trilogy. They are good movies.
The third movie is DARLIN.
We get the crap new 4k films with bad art work as i am from the uk and i like return of the living dead 4k but nope we don't get that only the old blu ray version i also want evil dead army of darkness in 4k steel book guess what nope its not in the uk either so i have to take a chance and buy it hoping the steelbooks are not going to get damage all the way from the usa to uk and on top of that pay out almost double because of shipping cost i m sure this happens to you as well where films you want are only uk or other country's
Arrows version of Silence of the lamb will be better than Kino. Their encoding is better and higher bitrates. Recently watched Arrows version of Invasion of the body snatches and it’s better than the Kino version just saying.
I did mention that yes.
I personally like the remake of Titans better than the original they are not great by any means don't get me wrong I just find them to be stupid fun while on the other hand, the original has aged poorly IMO
Damn wanted a chunky boxset for Silence but don’t want the slipcover version lame
I think it’s a slip over a chunky box
@@midlevelmediaI think so too.
@@midlevelmedia ohh in that case might have to get but is there a booklet ?
It’s got a booklet and yes it’s gonna be a fatty
