    thank you so much. I had no idea how important the drum loops were to make different sections. and I was trying to make them on my own rather than using pre sets. I think that's why I felt so stuck in my song. thank you again! Awesome video and charisma subscribed! 😊

      Yeah, the drums can really help differentiate those sections. And it gives your real drummer a better idea of what you're looking for if you're going to have real drums.

    Any time im practicing im recording myself bc i have a tendency to randomly play something cool but by the time you pull the phone out you cant seem to play it the same way that was the power of pure spontaneity. Not to mention what i like to do is keep the initial riff playing like you and ill keep doing takes and playing it with slight variations and then decide which I like best or whatever.

    Excellent lesson as usual. Hands down the most useful metal guitar channel on the webs. I always end up writing "riff salads" when I try to compose a song. This should help prevent that. Thanks!

    This has helped me break out of that rut Ive been stuck in for too long. Its a simple technique like recording the second track while playing the end of the first section that makes all the difference . Im sure this will be my default method from now on.

    You just showed me the wonders of modern technology... I'm still doing everything the old analog way. My phone is my only source of Internet, no computer... But seeing how your daw works is amazing; to quote Joe Walsh I may have to reconsider being "an analog man in this digital world"

    Yeah, a lot of times I will use an extra guitar track for pasting onto one of the main tracks. I've seen people do that on the same track, but it always ends up being more work. Might just be a Reaper thing, but I would always have to do extra editing that way.

      Yeah, dude, it's much easier to just open that 2nd track and piece it together. And I always go back and record a 2nd rhythm anyway, so it's already setup when I get to that point!

      Yeah dude, once you get this stuff down it's pretty simple. And man, I probably use only 30% of the functions!! lol But that's enough to do what's needed! So you can nail this stuff, too!

    This is always how i record guitar, have 3 tracks , one panned to the left and one panned to the right and than record everything on the third track thats still in the middle so its louder ....lots of recording..hahaha.
    But Jason did you know that you can have EZ drummer create a complete song structure based. On the loop you like? Just set the tempo, drag the loop into the ‘song creator’ choose a construction for a song and it creates an intro, verse, pre chorus, chorus, bridge etc.....supereasy

    Nicely illustrated. Mind if I ask what the real time timescale was coming up with those riffs? As things stand - only just digging in to your course - coming up with 3 complementary riffs would take me about 4 years to film 😂😂😂

    Very nice, great explanation and tips on how to get started. I definitely need to start recording some riffs - only tried a few times, really need to settle on a DAW so I can figure out how to use it.
    What's your bass you were playing?

      I'm playing the LTD D-5, which is a really solid bass!
      And dude, I use Presonus Studio One. I can't say it's the best because I haven't really used much of anything else. But the workflow is fairly easy, and that's a requirement for someone like me!!

      @@jasonstallworth Sweet, LTD has some awesome stuff. I've got a Squire Jazz, but looking at either replacing it or getting a 2nd one.
      Cool thanks, I might check that one out. I know some interfaces come with a basic version. Both of my amps can connect to my PC so not sure if I'll get a separate interface though.

      @@iduncanw Dude, I highly recommend you getting an interface. You pick one up for about $100 and that will expand your functionality.
      And let me know if there are some specific questions you have...I’ll make a video! This topic can be confusing...and I came really close to throwing in the towel years ago when I first started with all of this software stuff!

    Jason, dude...I don't even know how to come up with a riff.... I can play a couple of your lessons but not 100% accurate and kinda sloppy. Had guitar lessons a loooong time ago but never learned to play stuff on my own. Really doubting if I'll buy your metal riff master course or stick with your youtube vids for a while....

      Hi Christine, and thank you for getting the course! If I may suggest, watch the 'mindset' video first when you get into my course. I think that will set the tone for you!
      Also, don't worry about playing everything perfectly. In fact, the more you practice and play through these riffs, you may find different ways to play them that sound better to you and feel more natural to you! That's okay and I encourage that because that is how you will develop your own signature sound!

      Thank you brother! I have the Presonus Quantum 2 but for many years I used the Presonus AudioBox USB interface. The thing with interfaces is they're all about the same!!     I continuously get stuck on the intro riff and can't seem to move forward.

      Once you come up with a cool intro riff, maybe try simplifying the next piece of music to follow that. It doesn’t all have to be riffs. Try some power chords and let them ring out or simple notes with some palm muting.

      Thank you. And you have a great point. Sometimes songs just come from out of the blue. But we also go through those phases where it's just not coming together, and that's where these methods can come in handy.

    That is exactly my process of writing. Also in order never forget a riff. If I hear a riff or something in my head i have a tab generator on my phone so I can quick type it up no matter where I am and be able to have it as soon as I can get back to my guitar
