True. 70s and 80s best eras never too be repeated sadly. Thank God almighty that was the period I grew up in. Real people, real music ,real fun..No drugs needed
So so true. The x factor shit really gets to me as arseholes like Cheryl Cole would probably criticise bands like Big Country etc etc. I can just her imagine commenting on a band by saying 'Ian Curtis, the singer has to smile more'. She really is a moron.
I had clinical depression in 2001 when Stuart crossed over. It's the most horrible, difficult illness to break out of. Took me about 8 years and I came close to joining Stu many times. Sometimes, when the storm comes and the cloud descends, you are trapped inwards and not even the power of 1000 stars can get you out. Every single hope you have is shattered. Only time can help your cause. Chance was on my side, I had people around me who gave me that time. I went to a Big Country gig recently (2023), Mark still paid tribute to Stu at the end. The man's spirit is bigger than we can possibly imagine! His passing only proved he is immortal. His spirit came through his songs, and will forever live through his songs. Stu, your songs will always bring your spirit to me. Big Country 💜 Big Man 💛 Big Spirit 💙🕊️
Depression is the worst thing a human can feel. This song says it all to me. At 52, I’ve suffered cystic acne all my adult life, and everyday I want to die. I wish this feeling would end. We all have our good and bad days, but with endless acne on your face it’s hard to go on. I’m a Christian and without my faith I would of took my life long ago. Many a time have I listened to this song and wished I was with Stuart. God bless all.
One of the best memories of a 25 year marriage (before she left!) was seeing them live on the streets of Perth, with our son. 1997, I think. That was a moment I thought we were in love 😂
2022, and still the joy of the song, the majesty of the delivery, the incredible audience participation and the pain that Stuart is no longer with us is an emotional rollercoaster that gets you every time. RIP Stuart, thanks for the memories x
Still miss ya Big Man, have since 16 December 2001 but I know you are leading so many Big cheers and encores up there in heaven! Keep a seat at the bar open for me, and i want that Guiness you owe me!
@@carolmcdonald7912 im so sorry Carol, Bless his soul and I wish you love, strength & peace to you & your family. They are in a far better place now for sure, and we will all be happily reunited once day again.
Heard this song for the first time in about 25 years the other day.I loved it when it first came to us,but now I realise it's an absolute work of genius. No doubt.RIP Stuart.
The timeless beauty of Stuart .... We all feel so low he died too yoing. A beautiful soul who left us these sublime songs to be forever grateful for ... Thank you
hi ,i grew up listening to this music ,at the time i thought that big country were by far the best of the new crop of bands to emerge at that time which included simple minds and u2 but they never got the recognition they richly deserved and merited and the real sad thing is that the tragic loss of STUART ADAMSON MAY HE REST IN PEACE
I had the original blue LP of The Crossing, the later green cover version of the LP, and I bought it on cassette. It was an album that was inside me. I played it over and over and over, and always seemed to find something new in it each time.
Watching this while wife is watching X factor times have changed and definitely not for the good ! Fantastic live band seen them 6 times great memories
Never again will we hear such a talented band and an amazing singer. Real live performance. not girls shaking their butt and singing like mice singers that we have now. R.I.P.
6 thumbs down wtf us wrong with people be nice to av stuck them 6 on the stage this night and let the audience have some fun. Superb band stood in a venue wailing this out on many an occasion. Big country still going strong today but Stuart was the man. Goosebumps and tears when I hear thus 🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁❤️❤️❤️
Saw them at Knebworth supporting Queen (last concert they did). Thought they were amazing and got to see them again in Birmingham. Crying shame what happened to Stuart.
I was here or at least felt like it while watching the concert being broadcast live on TV. Both I & my mom felt like it was the greatest concert we'd ever witnessed. The house was so completely alive this night. Best New Years to this date. I was so impressed with my mom, she new the verses to so many songs that I didn't even realize she was listening to when I'd play the albums.
Stuart oh l wish you'd understand how how much you were loved-you were one of the greatest singers of all time-big country were awesome... we all get down from time to time-l wish l was there to help you in your hour of need-l still love you so much..oh Lord where did the feeling go-Oh Lord l never felt so low 1,2,3 lets go--oh lord yeah stuart you were da best x
"The Flying Keo" This song grabbed me the first time I heard it and has never let go ! Brilliant all round group who even in 2019 get the audiences `Going nuts! My all time favourite.
Another band I saw a good few times including 'at the Barras' and this was always played. Such a beautiful yet sad melodic rock song which could be found on "The Crossing" their 1st studio album. Stuart was once described by John Peel as 'the new Hendrix', quite an accolade. He was certainly a great talent and was such a lovely guy who I met several times.
I once went to a BC gig and the audience refused to leave after the encores and the lights were switched off. Just repeating the chorus to Chance over and over. They eventually came back for a final encore and Stuart said "We'll be here as long as you are." Quite prophetically horrible in retrospect.
From an English Postie Tosser who is constantly delivering bad news in a Letter I love coming home opening a Cold Tennants cranking up the volume believe me there ain't nowt better ❤
didnt think i liked big country till they supported bowie at wembley on the glass spider tour knew of stuart because of the skids but big country fucking rocked that night if i was to be truthful they were better than bowie !! this coming from a true died in the wool bowie fan !! watched them a few times after always fucking rocked and what a sad time when stuart passed !! listen and enjoy !! rip stuart adamson rocking in heaven !!!
***** me and my hubbies fav song of all time what a man lots of love to him and all his family who must miss him loads but we love all big country so much coz they gave so much even u2 admitted they copied there style so the original never gets what they deserve
Sadly the part of the brain that makes people musical geniuses, is also the part of the brain that makes people depressed. More suicides in musicians than any other profession
For all BC fans you will know this but for those not as familiar with the band in short they wrote the songs U2 wish they had written. Straight from The Edges mouth. No words more true.
Every now and then browsing through the comments something catches your eye and makes you think. He looked like a young guy at the time and was having a great time at the gig. He’d probably have been a similar age to me at the time. Very sad he was taken so young. Sorry for your loss, respect to you for keeping his memory alive.
Wonderful song great band i have seen this concert on dvd best concert i have seen thet were before my time originally glad i discovered them you tube to the rescue again when they break into full guitars on fields of fire magic
@IIEpizza My friend I have thought the same thing many times these past 10 years. If ever anybody deserved a better fate and at the very least a second chance at redemption from their personal demons,it was Stuart .It is so sad about the manner in which Stuarts life ended. All alone in that hotel room suffering and unable to see or feel all of the love and concern of all his family and friends.I believe Eddi Reader was right in saying it was an alcohol decision that night, not Stuarts.
We've gone from producing bands like this to the fucking X-Factor in the space of 25 years or so!!!!!
My favorite Big Country song by a mile.

Too many to choose from
yes where did it all go wrong..hate hearing the shite they play in supermarkets why cant they play big country
The most amazing, emotional chorus I've ever heard in a song. Fucking brilliant

Simply a stunning song. Still my favourite Big Country song close to 30 years after release. it's such a dark song. It cut me when Stuart passed away.
My favourite Big Country song out of them all, that first guitar solo gives me goosebumps.
C Man yes! I remember when I first heard this on their first album and I loved it. I never understood why Big Country wasn’t as big as U2
One of my favourite all time audience participation !
Recently rediscovered this song. Such power, yet such simplicity. I can’t get enough of it. So sad to hear about Stuart.
Fantastic, real musc from REAL musicians, just hard to find anymore! Thanks for sharing here! Excellent!
