I was in the US ARMY 11B on reforger 84 somewhere in a field on maneuvers and some one had this on cassette and it fit the time perfectly cause we were fixing to go back to the states and I was going on Christmas leave in 2 weeks. I was 19 and going home for2 weeks. The 80’s were great and I will never forget being young in that decade.
THE GREATEST BAND THAT NEVER WAS... I was a GARDENENER... IT WAS A LIVENER! THAT ALBUM SITS IN A REALLY PROUD POSITION... YOU KNOW THAT THEY ARE STILL GOING? SKIDS/COUNTRY...x
Wow. Awesome. I bumped in to Stuart in Manchester in the early 90's one Sunday and he was the most beautiful, sweetest man I've ever met. We still adore you Stuart. We love you 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
At that time Big Country for me was the best band the world - I envy the audience in Glasgow Barrowlands - what a privilege - No wonder they all went mad dancing with so much excitement.
My god can you imagine being in that club that night? Must have been the happiest place on earth. What an epic performance. Just doesn't get any better.
I was to a concert with Big Country here in Copenhagen in 86 , and yes it was the happiest place on earth , the connection between the band and the audience was fantastic - and we could really see that they enjoyed to play , and they had so much energy , and the same with us ,the audience.I miss the feeling , i had that night.
I'm so sorry he's gone I remember seeing this song on MTV in an arcade in Montebello California. USA 1980s I was in high school. I'm 57 yrs old now .and still love the song. What an amazing time to be alive and young 🎉❤
I was at this concert, came up from London for New Year, when you see a band at the absolute peak of their power in one of the best venues in the world, this was epic, love ya Stuart
Oh what memories… I remember I wanted to be like Stuart. I got one of my dads flannelette shirts and cut the sleeves off. Man did I cop a whipping 😂 was bloody worth it and I managed to “stay alive” 🙏❤️
Not unlike Overkill by Men @ Work, Don't Change by INXS, Save it for Later by the English Beat or She Sells Sanctuary by the Cult...to name a few of the best from my youth. Songs💫✨🌟⭐ such as those, have somehow gotten better over the passage of time...
They were terrific live. A measure of a great live band, is, they sound much better live. Love those guitars singing. This is the quintessential 80’s song.
Everyone has one, this is mine, to be allowed to go back in time to witness something live, i saw BC quite a few times but never at Barrowlands, i could watch these videos all day every day, and every time think, let me stand plum centre and pogo with the rest of them, get sweaty and walk out knowing you've been part of something fucking special, you don't get bands and moments like this anymore, 'Stay Alive' big man.
You are not alone in that regard, my friend. Those words have a deep significance to those of us touched by this great band and their music. Come up Screaming!
I saw the band live with Stuart and without him, they are still playing in his honour, you are missed Stuart.🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴☮️☮️☮️☮️
The song is iconic. It will go down in history as one of the best. And what an ending to a song to let the audience control it. Singing that that was beautiful.
Oh my good! Take a look at this concert! !!!!! Amazing anda fantastic! Tks for share! Here in Brazil that still remains some peoploi who like a lot of good 80´s music!
Fuck! How very poingnant that Stuart Adamson tells the crowd...'stay alive'...God Bless You Stuart!...what a fkn belter concert this was...shoulda woulda coulda n aw that!!
The crew at the Barrowland are world famous. 3 flights of stairs with truckloads of gear. Half man half forklift. They cheat now though, they use a hoist! Best crew ever with the best band ever.
African-American guy pushing 60 (1/4 Irish. ) When I was a kid everybody sang Auld Lang Syne at New Year’s Eve. And I mean everybody! The Irish, the Italians, The Puerto Ricans, the African Americans, The Polish. you know everybody. And the ball drop in New York city Times Square which is probably about an hour away from where I’m living right now in New Jersey, they used to play that song on the television. Doesn’t happen anymore. People have forgotten this song. Not a big Scottish community where I’m living at.
Big county drummer is nice is hell, unique sound to the bands member with the new sound back in the day. I'm glad you gave use unique sounds and words for us to listen forever
Aye, actually experiencing life rather than filming it from the 3rd person. My generation that saw this stuff were the last generation of real human beings.
Big Country has a sound like none other. Stuart Adamson's voice on Steel Town gives me chills. Mark Brzezicki's drumming sounds like rushing water from a waterfall. I believe this band was The Pacific Northwest sound before Seattle even imaged flannel and guitars that sounded like bagpipes.
ye can spot a wee bit of enthusiasm. you know, they could've done a triple dvd/cd set of this 1983, the 1993, and the final (ever) 2000, barrowlands gigs. that'd be a real set.
Que energia que tenia este grupazo, los vi en el 83 y siempre fueron mis favoritos, Stu simplemente era un genio musical....cuanto lo extranamos hoy en dia...
Caught an earful of the band outside a Chicago club back in the 90's, too broke and out of it to go inside. Seeing them here at their height on home turf is bittersweet but great.
+Robbie Hawthorne You are correct mate. They played one in the afternoon and then another gig through the bells. I was at their Final Fling concert at the Barrowlands about 13 years ago. Some band
I had these guys from my country & city (apart from the bassist who was from England) play nearly every year at some venue holding the Hogmanay Festivities of Ringing In The Bells... Usually it was a Scottish band & no matter how cold or wet when these guys played you forgot about the weather & sang your heart out with hundreds of other revellers... We are fast becoming a society that is not social able & doesn't share actual live events together but instead many are so addicted to their mobiles & laptops that they've forgotten how to properly socialize & especially at the New Year... I know that since we can practically buy alcohol nearly 24/7 7 days a week it has taken the shine off of celebrating the ringing of the the bells but it doesn't have to be like this & I'm glad I'm not one of those who haven't made memories to treasures by going out & socialising... I miss these bands playing Live either at the Glasgow Barrowlands or George Square & as I said they were at time book especially to ring in the new year & although Stuart's gone there are still many great Scottish bands from this era & onwards that can still play Live brilliantly & it'd be nice to have a Scottish Band play just before the Bells again as those were great memories... I witnessed the best concert to this day. Big Country performing at the University of Delaware in 1983!

I was a 91E in Germany
Saw them in Manchester in 1985 with my girlfriend of the time. What a time to be alive; I’d go back in an instant….
I'll never forget when this song came out. I was 13 and it was the soundtrack of my generation. Soaring, timeless, and hits you deep within the soul.
I was around 15 I think - same same here as what you say.....deep within the soul!
me too brother!
My two best friends kenny and pat shot
@Andrew Graham "Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming". If only Stuart Adamson could have got through. :( Rest in Peace, Sir.
I was in my twenties the song was incredibly powerful. God Rest his soul
The best live concert footage l've ever seen! AND one of my favorite songs! Awesome energy!!!!!
Wow. Awesome. I bumped in to Stuart in Manchester in the early 90's one Sunday and he was the most beautiful, sweetest man I've ever met. We still adore you Stuart. We love you 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

it's gotta be mid 80's
Oh what memories… I remember I wanted to be like Stuart. I got one of my dads flannelette shirts and cut the sleeves off. Man did I cop a whipping 😂 was bloody worth it and I managed to “stay alive” 🙏❤️
I love how when Big Country plays, it's like a group of guys playing for their friends. Such great vibes!
Without them , i don't know how would i be here today . my 50 th birthday .
OMG, what a performance. R.I.P. Stuart. If you only knew how much this song meant to your fans, maybe you’d still be around. Gone way too soon.
Every time i watch videos of big country i tear up. Saw them at leeds town and country club, the best gig i ever saw.rip stuart
Town and country what a venue
Best live version,
by far,

under appreciated
band,

Ahhh Glasgow…
“Ah’ll be “Bach” again soon
Legends of Bonny Scotland 🏴🏴🏴
There's a clip of Wonderland from this same show, but I can't find it anymore! Tremendous performance!
I was too young and lived too far away to have seen them live, but they were a fantastic show to see by the looks of it. And terribly underrated.
I was 10 yrs old when my brother introduced me to this band....... ty bro
It was in either 83 or 84
Came down from the highlands for this gig , has stayed with me ever since !
Fucking love this band my dad introduced them to me now he's been gone 6 years today thanks dad love you man x
Fuck your generation. Coddled entitled babies best friends with their parents.
my dad died in february and dad introduced them to me too! howdy
An unforgettable night on many levels! Best gig of 1983!
This is one of the most unique songs ive ever heard. Sonic and lyrical genius
Agreed!! And making that guitar sound like a bagpipe was just incredible.
Scottish tribal rock.
This song has stayed with me since the 80's like a lover's voice fires the mountainside!🔥💯

Barrowlands was a great venue,
40 years ago ! Everyone there must be in their 50's and 60's now ! Shocking how time has flown.
I've seen loads of bands. For me these were the best! Stay alive.
Happy New Year. Such a talented human. He went home way too early. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
every time I watch any of these videos and Stuart says Stay Alive, I just want to burst into tears. Whats up with me?!?!
You are not alone in that regard, my friend. Those words have a deep significance to those of us touched by this great band and their music. Come up Screaming!
Nothing wrong with you friend. You are in touch with yourself, with God
Yeh we all do mate wish he still was 😥
Same
I think of those words every day and Stuart as well and the phrase “Stay Alive” is part of my days regular routine ...
I would have been 16 years old NYE 1983. There are no words for this performance!
My favourite 80s song... I heard it first as a 14yo in Australia and I love it still. RIP Stuart.
I saw the band live with Stuart and without him, they are still playing in his honour, you are missed Stuart.🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴☮️☮️☮️☮️
Saw them at Cardiff as support act for Bowie in 87. Unbelievably good and they rocked Cardiff
The song is iconic. It will go down in history as one of the best. And what an ending to a song to let the audience control it. Singing that that was beautiful.
I love how Stuart touches each and everyone’s hand during the breakdown, what a legend… RIP
Oh my good! Take a look at this concert! !!!!!

He really gave his total everything in a performance, not many people like him been in this world.
I’m a 63yo and I’m so grieved I didn’t experience this! Such a tragedy! 😢
The crew at the Barrowland are world famous. 3 flights of stairs with truckloads of gear. Half man half forklift. They cheat now though, they use a hoist! Best crew ever with the best band ever.
If "In A Big Country" ain't the Scottish National Anthem, ... it should be. What an awesome song!
Mad Jack yes it should be the anthem. I love it.💃💖💕😘🇳🇴
scotland already has the greatest national anthem and im not even scottish
Lets start a petition to make this happen!
Yup. It's just like "Land Down Under" by Men-At-Work is the Australian National Anthem.
Had the pleasure of meeting the group back stage on two occasions in early 80's, what gents. RIP Stuart
