I was lucky enough to see them in concert once. They were incredible. I don't think I have ever seen a band live that had this much energy and passion. Their lyrics were poetry set to music.

I was a French assistant in secondary schools at day and French teacher at Clydebank and Central colleges at night from August '89 to June '90. I discovered Big Country during Christmas holidays. I'll never forget it's energy and charisma. And every time I listened to its main song plus the Pipe band I feel the same emotion overwhelming me.
If ever I go back to the Big Country I won't buy a return ticket.
A huge part of my most cherished memories are related to this period of my life.
And on top of this I want to thank all the Scots I met so welcoming and generous they were.

Everyone has one, this is mine, to be allowed to go back in time to witness something live, i saw BC quite a few times but never at Barrowlands, i could watch these videos all day every day, and every time think, let me stand plum centre and pogo with the rest of them, get sweaty and walk out knowing you've been part of something fucking special, you don't get bands and moments like this anymore, 'Stay Alive' big man.

They played two concerts on this day...one for the under-18 fans earlier in the evening then this one. My sis was too young to go to the second so we went to the first, but they still created a great New Year atmos...a truly great band...my favourite (and yes, I wore a tartan shirt!) Such a sad loss to the music industry and the world. RIP Stu - hope you have found the peace you never found in life. x

I think I saw this concert on MTV. The thing I remember is, trying to figure out how they were getting those guitar sounds on the intro. I don't think I knew about the E-bow at that point, which is what they're using to get that sound, but that sound certainly blew my mind.

Oh I can believe that. I never tire of watching their 1984 Barrowlands performances. The first time I saw them was on their Seer tour April '86 at the Manchester Apollo. To this day, it remains one of the most poignant moments and among the most memorable experiences of my life. Hardly a day passes when I don't listen to BC. They touched my life deeply and their music has left an indelible impression in my soul.

Big Country - I remember taking my best mate to Bowie's Glass Spider concert in Cardiff. He wanted to see Bowie - I was there for BC. He didn't really know BC. I told him in the serious drinking session before that he would come out a major MC fan - of course he didn't belive me. The concert - I won the argument by a fucking mile - partly cos Bowie at that time was up his own arse - he was shite; BC stole the show. You speak to my same best mate now - NO CONTEST - BC the best!

Total class. These guys were the very best. At this time I'd say as far as making music and playing their instruments nobody did it better the Big Country even out shone U2 in my opinion, Problem in the States was Big Country never had their "Joshua Tree" moment, they led off with the Crossing, and was hard for them to out do that Album.

    Favorite moments of the pipers:
7:16. The guy trying to keep a straight face. And failing miserably! He makes me laugh to this day. ☺️
7:33 The guy looking over at the others and nodding as if to say "Bloody good job, boys". (At least I like to think he's saying that)

You have said something that I have thought for a long time and you are completely correct, U2 played for the audience with the Joshua Tree and left real music behind, the also played on being Irish to the Irish American's but Big Country will live far beyond U2 and that's coming from an Irishman.

And, the bagpipes were a cool touch, you just don't get anything like this here. We get Ryan Seacrest, etc. Ewwwww.

@stuartmays I went to Apple Cross, Loch Ness, Inverness, and several other places, it's a bit of a blur to me now, but one of the most striking moments was watching Highland cattle being herded from a massive estate over the shallow shore to wherever they were going.
