It still pisses me off that they got slated by the majority of the music press.A superb live experience, quality musicians.....Stuart was a guitar legend and fantastic lyricist...Much missed!
I’ve heard this song thousands of times and this is the best version, In my opinion the best song ever written by Stuart, rest in peace my friend, I miss you
He really was great and a solid band behind him. Restless Natives Soundtrack was incredible too. Released as B sides on the singles for any vinyl heads…
Why, oh why did a talent like Stuart have to leave us the way he did? U2 could only ever aspire to be like he and his band were. The talent that that man had and his ability to do what he could with a guitar will never be seen again. He and his band were real musicians, something that is sadly lacking in the times we live in now. Stuart, where ever you are, you are sadly missed, but your legacy will live on forever....
ruclips.net/video/4oRGxL42cI8/видео.html just as good round about the same time but just two great bands of that time doing it live,I could add the alarm and simple minds easily
I suffer from depression also ...The music of Big Country in fact saved my life and gave me the courage to go on, Stuart used to always say "Stay Alive" which gave me hope....My heart was grief stricken when i learned he had taken his life............But i know that Stuart wanted to help others, it was his core value, as well as the rest of the Band...........I continue because Big Country as a whole gave me hope and courage....................
I love love love this song - one of my all time favourites - saw Stuart perform live - I will keep that memory in my heart forever - RIP Stuart Adamson xxx
Stuart Adamson...… absolute legend.... he never knew just how talented he was and never received the respect he deserved from the music industry... brilliant song writer and guitarist... mastered the e-bow when hardly anyone else could
Well what can i say - totally gob smacked !! This video is for me the best one i have ever watched on RUclips. Aged 60 years and been a fan of Big Country for many many of them. Many thanks for posting this video. R.I.P. Stuart - gone far too soon. You ( and the rest of the band ) have a massive following and no doubt more will be added when they hear your brilliant music and see what a great showman you truly were.
This is the way it was supposed to be played. Look at how much fun he's having. They will have their time again. Their songs have a message that people need to hear today.
What a performance! This is Big Country, in their prime, playing a truly kick arse version of a classic ! What a joy to watch. Best band live I ever saw 🙏🏻
Pure class - iconic STU Adamson at 2.47 and his hop dance . I can't seem to stop watching BC vids these days and now that I am older I can see these 4 guys were absolute legends who thoroughly deserved to get more recognition than what they got.
Big Country were a huge part of my growing up and they mean so much to me. Having seen them 3 times with Stuart as the lead what an amazing experience they were and long live Stuart Adamson you will never be forgotten, RIP Stuart
This has to be 'THE' live version of The Storm. Remember hearing it on Radio 1 In Concert at the time and the e-bow beginning of the song still makes the hairs on the back of neck still stand on edge whenever I hear it.
I remember my mate calling me and just shouting something like “Get an empty cassette and turn on the f-ing radio now.” I tried to answer but he just hung up. Still got first copy somewhere I think.
I think i speak for many here the best band ever if all music lovers knew what they were missing forgotten by to many i feel a need to tell people about them
I was mesmerized by their music for decades-still am. Their music always has a Story to tell-an Epic one. The crossing evoked early Arctic and Antarctic Exploration by the Brits. Steeltown evoked the post WW I rise of Germany and the naive enthusiasm of the rebuilding of their military, invasion of Russia, and ultimate Downfall and reflection upon the events that led to it. The Seer brings to mind Rob Roy and also Cromwell, as well as the two wars Britain fought in North America. I could go on and on 😇
+Joshua Hugo -Fields of Fire makes me think of Waterloo and the "Box" formations of riflemen that defeated Napoleon's cavalry which charged those. The Song "Big Country?" Well I think that's about America 🇺🇸👍. But what's great is as one person wrote, the music seems written for the Individual Listener to put their own meaning to it. Growing up by the sea like Stuart, Tall Ships Go is very personal, as I got to see the 1976 American Bicentennial Tall Ships Fleet in New York Harbor-what a sight! Ships from around the world. The Portuguese ship was owned by the family of a friend of my mother's who was from an old well today Portuguese family. There's always been a huge population of Portugese-at home on the water-all about the Massachusetts shore towns of Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, New Bedford, Gloucester, Fall River down Rhode Island). This woman's husband was a Benz-heir to Mercedes Benz. The ship was lost, all hands in Bermuda Triangle-the "Amerigo Vespucci" I believe
+Joshua Hugo Fortunately the owners were not sailing on it then. It was a huge ship! Freak storm came up on a calm and routine trip of 2-3 days-so "Tall Ships Go" hits me a bit. If you saw that Tall Ship's size you'd not believe it could just disappear-but it did. I know Stuart's Dad was a Fisherman so he and his family and community knew about "Men who go down to the Sea in ships."
I wish I could have spoken to Stuart. I suffer from depression myself and I wish I could have told him how much his music had help me. Long live Stuart Adamson! Long live Big Country!!!
Love that E-bow. I was fortunate enough to see Big Country a dozen times. Plus twice when they did acoustic appearances at Virgin Nottingham and HMV Derby. Before they played they stood at the door at HMV, wish I'd gone over and shook their hands, regret that missed opportunity to say thanks for the music.
For two and a half minutes .....Stuart had them all captivated while he enjoyed 'messing about' with his e-bow. My one big regret in life....... not seeing these four guys perform together on stage LIVE. RIP Stuart.
Who the hell dislikes this, I have this DVD and ripped the audio it is killer. Check out “The Teacher” from this concert too! So many night as a 12 year old listening to this in 83.
...its like the upcoming sun...and i feel the tears in MY eyes...what a sound ,what a wonderful performance...nothing can put the storm into my heart like this emotion....
I'm just seeing this for the first time and I can't help feeling very emotional watching it. Fantastic performance and band. We'll never forget you Stuart.
R.I.P Stuart Adamson. Saw you at the Rainbow with, The Skids in '79. "Days in Europa" set. Got the album next day.... Then at, 'The Jams' last gig at Wembley Arena, '82. This warm up band came on called, 'BIG COUNTRY'. Got the album next day. Brilliant song writer and composer. Up the Celts!
seen them lots in the 80,s birmingham NEC , Nottingham rock city etc, etc but i still listen to them over and over again and again RIP Stuart,, thankyou so much for my past
Assuredly, I have heard every BC song many dozens of times. The Storm caught me when I was just shy of 17. A treasure. An epic song if we ever could define one. I iss Stuart so much and watching the band play. I want Tony, Mark and Bruce to know they will forever be in my mind and heart. Stuart held a special place for me that I have only rared shared. I never met him, but he was my teacher in almost all that I now hold dear.
Whenever I went on a plane; since portable devices were 'the' thing; I always had this playing on 'take off' & 'landing' ... Was/ is 'the' song I wanna die to; hmmm ... Soz, bit morbid, but true! Love it soo much!
Was lucky enough to see Big Country last night in Liverpool. Was a little unsure how it would be without Stuart but Mike Peters you should be proud, what an amazing night!Big Country lives on....thank you for this footage!
I can't say"the best band forever"but for me it was in the 80's an important band for me. I like the sound with the Irish influences. And now when i listen in 2017 i still love the sound

why was it a competition? I like both bands regardless
ruclips.net/video/4oRGxL42cI8/видео.html just as good round about the same time but just two great bands of that time doing it live,I could add the alarm and simple minds easily
forgot the bunnymen as well,we should all be gratefull for being in that era to be honest
Nobody could lase the boots of Stuart rip genius
He made it look easy but the complexity of their sound and the way they nailed it live. I still find astonishing all these years later.
R.I.P Stuart Adamson.....Big Country were the soundtrack of my teenage years.
Thank you .
Mine too...Stuart is still sadly missed..Genius of a man..

The emotion in this guitar is breathtaking. This is the best live version of this song ever
Always better live than in the studio. How, you ask?
TALENT.
This is the way it was supposed to be played. Look at how much fun he's having. They will have their time again. Their songs have a message that people need to hear today.
Gone but never forgotten, no other band or lyrics come close

Stunning rendition of an epic song. I may be young but I'll take this over today's shit on the radio any day.
Remember this back in the day, amazing sound...just the best
Big country was one of the few bands that surpass their legendary status in the studio live.
What a performance! This is Big Country, in their prime, playing a truly kick arse version of a classic ! What a joy to watch. Best band live I ever saw 🙏🏻

" the crossing" brilliant. What a sound. Beats anything that U2 put out.
incredible. still sends chills down my spine today.

Lets hear it for Scotland!!!!!!!! Love Big Country!!!!!
Do you know in both World Wars the Krauts feared the Scots more than any other troops. And they often wore their kid ltd in battle!
+Joshua Hugo that should say "kilts," and of course they did lead with the piper at the front of the troops.-Bravehearts!
A pre-eminent example of the use if the EBow by an amazing band...
This song is very chilling but very beautiful Indeed .
