Without a doubt the best live band ever. You will never see a pairing of two guirarists like this again and its not just Stuart and Bruce but Mark and Tony also. Take any one of them away and youve lost the unique sound and energy created here. Thank God for youtube archives
I saw them at the NEC in around '87 - and you are absolutely right!! I had also seen Dire Straits (who I absolutely loved & still do) and many, many other truly great bands at the very same venue - BUT NO-ONE ever generated an atmosphere anything like as brilliant as these boys. I have never before felt a super-venue SHAKE in the way that it did that night! I saw them twice more in Glasgow over the years - and for me they will always be THE best live band ever.
Sorry but Bruce is pretty lame on guitar and couldn't sing backup properly. It's a shame Stuart never paired up with someone like Marshall Crenshaw to write music, sing and play guitar. They would have been awesome together.
On a cold night as the snow falls this warms the heart and rekindles memories of a wonderful band , here we are in 2021 , anyone else listening and getting that warm soulful glow..
I'm here. It's where I go when I want to remind our Lord that there are a lot reasons for giving up on humans but this is more proof of why He shouldn't. "We can transcend ourselves." I'm so sorry S Adams. God bless you.
He really was the real deal wasn’t he ? His interaction with the crowd is so good to see. He appreciated their involvement as much as they did his. What a talent. Sorely missed.
He hung himself in a closet in a hotel next to honolulu airport....never even made it to the beach.....i stayed at that hotel....very sad...i am thinking he went out there to get better or see the beach etc.... before he killed himself....but killed himself in a crappy hotel
How can we not miss that magic and still mourn his loss? Wexare so fortunate to have their music preserved and great clips like this shared. Thanks for the post
Stuart Adamson was the most underrated songwriter of his generation - you can't count how many 'indie' bands from the late 2000s on emulate both his voice and chord progressions - the first 3 Big Country records are absolute masterpieces.
They are and they really caught lightning again with Buffalo Skinners through Damascus, people should really spend time with them. It's a shame the Grunge thing drowned out so much good music, BC were definitely victims of that shift and they were churning out some of their very best stuff.
There will never be another band quite like them. The atmosphere at their gigs was quite simply electric. RIP in piece Stuart - you were, and still are loved by so many
Wonderland...... Wonderful song......l love my Big Country forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever.......... Even after my death......................
Big country had the same power as the first few cords of a thin lizzy classic, these bands and songs are set in stone ,im 58 , this takes me back to my 20's .. restlessness natives film ,cheap channel 4 type film , but fantastic pick you up and feel good movie,,
We can't turn back time. We can't live a life of somebody else. We can't make promises we can't fullfill. We can be strong. We can show respect to one of the greatest guitar players and vocalists of the eighties and nineties! We can be with him spirit and after 30 years we still can feel his love and talents!!! X (H) X
Only really appreciate them now years later. What a live band they must have been. This is one of the best things I ever saw on RUclips. Two great guitar players and a phenomenal rhythm section. Truly inspiring.
Yep, saw each tour through the 80's and it was difficult to watch them fade. The music was there but they were forced to alter their sound some. Got it back with Skinners and went out strong. They were amazing, came out of nowhere. People kept talking about "bagpipe" sound and overlooking the fact that you had collectively, 4 of the most talented musicians to come out of that generation.
i was 14 when i started to listen to big country, thin lizzy was my favorite band now big country took over. now im 17 still loving big country got to be the best band, hope im not the only kid that listens to big country would recommend this band to everyone. r.i.p stu
That folk's is how do it! nobody comes close to stuart and the boys live sheer joy to have been part of the journey the big man is legend al never forget the happy memories he gave us up on stage having a blast rip Stuart gone but never forgotten
Total joy. A fabulous song, performed by geniuses of their time, who were never recognised for the talents, song writing poignancy (and yet joy) and brilliant live performances that those of us who knew them saw. And loved. The utter sadness of Stuart's loss haunts us all in a way I find impossible to reconcile two decades on, but we rejoice in the complete mesmerising magic, gifts, lyrics and pleasure he brought to the world. We love you, big man.
He hung himself in a closet in a hotel next to honolulu airport....never even made it to the beach.....i stayed at that hotel....very sad...i am thinking he went out there to get better or see the beach etc.... before he killed himself....but killed himself in a crappy hotel
This makes me feel realise how lucky I am to have been around in the 80s & seen this Great Band live . Stuart Adamson loved his fans ❤️ & his fans loved him ❤️
I give this man 💯 he felt the winter more than most I’d of saved him if given the chance Talented man yet no one see his pain till it was to late Makes me think of my dad in many ways Look after those who don’t ask for help
This is probably the best live performance by a band ever! I would love to have been there. Being Scottish I know how electric the Barrolwands can be. Big Country took it to hyperspace with this one!
He sang songs about love and loss and hope and redemption over some of the most beautiful melodies ever written. Hiss loss is palpable. He and his music will never be forgotten
Great audio quality - so many BC clips have either horribly fuzzy or very muted sound, - BUT this is great. Thank you! I have probably watched over 300 different bands during the last 50 years - but NO-ONE created a better live atmosphere than Big Country in their prime !!
4 artists at work. Excellent rhythm section (10/10) to the drum tech who sorted that snare, two of the ‘best of their time’ guitarists, and not to mention the lyrical genius of Mr Adamson. A lot would say that all BC songs sounded the same, but that’s a compliment because they never did a shit one!
I was at this concert, brings back so many memories of the best live band ever, remember leaving thinking what the f... just happened there amazing night
Imho not possible but definitely the best band ever. And though many people know them and appreciate them (just look at the comments for aal the vids on RUclips), they are the most underrated band ever.
Liam Roche he he, yeah cause they come in a bar too early, he shakes his head to say “you’re in too early”. It’s a lovely moment... I had forgotten how good they were. This is fabulous.
Crazy. I do not know why I cry, everytime I hear this song. I guess it is so nostalgic - tied into my college days. I am a man. But some little things, can cause a big man to cry. This is crazy.
Out of all the songs they did, I think Wonderland has always been close to my heart. Listening to this live version was even more compelling and added chills in the middle. I was lucky enough to see them live in 1994 I think, free gig in Wollaton Park in Nottingham. RIP Stuart.
This is one of those B.C. songs that I hear in my head each and every day. More than 20 years and I still never tire of it. This performance is fantastic. As always, thank you so much for sharing it. You're the best Isabelle!!!!
Some people, when they leave the world, leave such a vacuum in the universe it can only be filled by the sadness of their loss that lasts forever. I will never stop missing you, it still hurts.
It is 2020 and I fell in love with Big Country and their only US hit, "In a Big Country" when it came out in the 80s. I just found out the lead singer died a long time ago. I loved his voice. I've not been to Scotland, but I've been to Ireland 7 times. I love Irish and Scottish music both Traditional and Punk. I saw Shane MacGowan after he left the Pogues and formed the Popes. I went to their show in San Francisco, and had the most awesome time.
Happiness = leather pants, loud guitars and Stuart with a goatee! I would give anything to have a time capsule back to this gig in 1993. Totally underrated band, especially in a live setting! RIP Stuart, you are missed!! X
Just underplayed on radio-Not underrated. I never knew how many other Forever Fans were out there besides me till I got looking around on RUclips. God Bless Big Country-Unique in so many ways. 🇬🇧 (couldn't find the Scottish flag!)
I have met so many wonderful people all over the world because of Big Country! I like to think that maybe the big man has something to do with it. The music lives forever!
Great band.I often think of Stu as a young lad running round Scotland giging and getting bigger and better and then to end up dying alone in the states a long way away from Scotland so sad.what a talent.
That thought breaks my heart. It is so contrary to the admiration for this immense fantastic band and to the celebration of their music & talent. Music that helped so many escape their own pain or take so much pleasure and hope out of it. Stuart will be in my heart forever.
God Bless you Stuart, I can't hear your voice and not be off to find wonder outdoors! Thank you Big Country for giving me the kick to be a happy and healthier person!
What a night, I was there with Davie Smith and Pete Docherty, we caught the train at Dumbarton Central an embarked on one of the best nights of my life. That's me jumping about at 0.02 ,,, in amongst all the other nutters. Memories last a lifetime ... thanks Isabelle. x
Saw them at the Barrowlands many many times. The Big Country fans at the Barrowlands always welcomed Stuart and the boys. Always a brilliant night in there. Miss the big man so much. He was a troubled soul. Such a waste of a wonderful man. Thankfully, with You Tube, his music was always be with us. As Stuart wrote, "some days will stay a thousand years, some pass like the flash of a spark, who knows where all our days go" RIP Stuart.
This is the real thing. No other band created guitar riffs like these, and what a fantastic collaboration between the two axemen! But in the end it's all about passion and energy, and this song is 100% energy for sure. They were the best, no doubt.
Agree with you - but I’d also argue that Tony and Mark added yet more to what the guitarists did and that Stuart’s voice soars over the lot. This bass player and this drummer are both noteworthy players - way better than the average of 80s musicians in popular bands. Top band all ‘round - massively underrated.
Saw many bands live, Queen twice, Thin Lizzy 4 times, Rush,Blizzard of Oz plus many more but hand on heart, the 2 Big Country gigs at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, were the best live performances I have ever seen. Legends!
when I found out S had passed I was just so floored and distraught. The Skids, BC...he was such a talent and all these years on, even though I never met him...at 54 years old, it still breaks my goddamn heart.
I had no idea that they had filmed the barrowlands' concerts, an awesone legacy to one of the truly greats of the 'punk' era, easily an equal to the dire Paul Weller or John Lydon. RIP, One can only be sorry that you despared so much.
I guess I posted on another post, still Stewart Adams......amazing....and so sadly missed.....btw I live in the east coast of the the US, but I am 75% Irish.....my family name is Baskin.......from Tyrone county..........that said, this is an amazing video......as Irishmen a death is a loss....his death still hurts so many years later.......before you bust on me remember I am at least 75% Irish, the rest is my dad......the Irish is in my heart....Cheers to all
Damn I got old. Modern music just hasn't got the same etc. etc. my leg's giving me gyp in this cold weather.... Seriously though, there are not many bands delivering this kind of energy nor do I expect there to be. Best Scots rock we will ever have (not a complaint)
thx for this wonderfull gift this band kept me alive when i was younger the melodies lyrics are simply put magical and mystical...
This is my favorite Big Country clip. Greatness ! Rest in Peace Stuart. With Gratitude - John
Anyone else get goosebumps every time you listen to this?

Me too. Great band great songwriter.
Absolutely brilliant live performance.
Some of the best music ever, please, always watch your friends for signs of depression, Stewart and the band had so much potential Cheers

This is just incredible.
I’ve seen a few bands, some massive bands, some local bands....all live. Nobody, nobody come close to this line up, live. Nobody
I am such a Jam fan... but I absolutely believe you.

Still…2024

Well said indeed. Stuart had the soul of a poet.
Such a good lyricist ....loved that about Stuart😊

Adriaan Renkema not by me. Are you still listening
The reason why so many don't know Big country because the music industry let this band down. This includes radio stations as well.
the little joyous shake of his head when the crowd sings the opening "woahs" is a delight
