I am addicted to this channel…not good lol…but honestly I love this dude and how he reviews everything judgment free till actually testing it. He doesn’t mock products even those that seems silly at first
I like the lack of ridicule because so many products marketed to the general public were probably originally invented for niche markets: the Snuggie for wheelchair users, one-handed can openers for amputees, electric pepper grinders for people with arthritis, etc.
This is one of those products that you pretty much know if it is for you before buying. Since it does everything it claims and looks to be good quality it seems like a good product. Not for me but honestly if I was going on a vacation or to an event I knew I wanted to take a lot of looking up shots this looks tempting. Airshows, places you want to take a lot of ceiling shots like a Church, a city with tall buildings, etc.
The native image stabilization is doing 99% of the heavy lifting during those tests, might be a better test in the future to turn off stabilization and see if the product, by itself, improves stabilization. Overall a good review.
It doesn't really and it's not supposed to. It's not a gimbal. And even gimbals can't really compensate foot steps very well. That's why you have to do the ninja walk.
Yeah but at that point, you sort of just have to throw in the towel and say actual improved stabilization is just not something this provides. Because nobody turns off stabilization in everyday life. Only point you could make is that it feels more stable, which you’d hope it would.
I bought it with all the accessories. I love it. I am a flight attendant so I take a lot of photos on my trips and it s a lot easier to take photos now!
Phones have the ability to use volume buttons and sometimes a 2nd capture button... I have a bulky protection case cause on day to day use it helps having more grip room, and that translates to photos too.
I was coming to the comments to say this with the volume buttons. I honestly think it’s something a lot of people don’t actually know about, though it’s been that way for many years!
I bought a similar product about 5 years ago - gave it a fair shot, but at the end of the day I just couldn't feel I needed it. I felt the benefits were minimal, and for that I had to carry an extra item with me. I would not say it's useless or that nobody could find it very useful - the detachable exposition button, for example - I just couldn't fall in love with it, no matter how hard I tried. Even though it had no technical hiccups, worked fine and it did everything it said on the box. Just a tad too much hassle for too little gain for me. (Should be noted that although my model back then was significantly cheaper, it had no magnetic feature and a built in battery/charging feature.)
This is my favorite review channel on RUclips. I could be mistaken but his reviews seem transparent, informational and honest. I’m tired of looking for objective product reviews just to have “influencers” push sponsored products. Thanks for keeping reviews real.
Always excited to see a new Freakin' Reviews video :) You're one of the few RUclipsrs that I watch every single video from... Thanks so much for showing us so many cool products and for the ethical way you handle reviews and sponsorships.
I like the idea. I would like to see a comparison of other similar products and phone camera enhancements like telephoto lens. You always do a great review and make it fun to watch
The advantages of a dslr are the ability to change the iso, shutter speed, aperture, interchangeable lenses ect ect ect so a grip will not fix that. But as a person with thousands and thousands of dollars invested in dslr equipment this provides an entirely different benefit. Something like this you can carry around with you everwhere and use your phone as a point and shoot street photography camera to scout locations and subjects you might want to come back to later. Also as an artist it’s nice to take reference photos on the fly.
I have a DSLR and a similar grip. Even smaller. Fits in your pocket. That's the selling point. You don't want to carry a DSLR all the time. These grips weigh next to nothing. You have your phone with you anyway. My grip also has a mini tripod and a detachable button that acts as a remote shutter release. Put your phone on a wall and take a selfie or be in a group shot.
I don't think it's intended to mimic a full DSLR camera. It just converts your phone into something with a more comfortable grip with a DSLR style. If you plan on doing a lot of video and/or pics that day, this might be a way to go. .
@@phenomenalj3407 What is the SLR part of this product? IMHO it only makes it more like point and shoot camera and it doesn't have anything to do with DSLR
I think you missed the boat on this product. Yes, there is little difference between the shots you took with and without the SnapGrip. Where I find the grip most useful, yes I own one, is on long days of photography. If I just need to snap a quick photo I don’t waste my time with the grip but if I’m shooting dozens or hundreds of photos over the period of a day the grip is more comfortable over the long haul.
I thought your review was thorough and balanced as usual. Although I liked the features I wouldn't use it enough to justify the $70 price tag. I will add this to my list of possible Christmas or birthday gifts for a family member that I'm pretty sure would enjoy it.
One thing I loved about the Motorola z family of phones was the fact that it had transformer back accessories, one which actually did turn it into a DSLR like camera 📸. The back is from hasselblad (sp?) And is fun to use for some photography. I'm still sad Motorola abandoned the Z line for boring sameyness of the other phone companies!
Yeah, I just move the touch area for taking the photo to a more comfortable position on the screen or use one of the side buttons so no contortions needed.
I just got back from Rome. I used a DJi 5 gimbal and it drained the battery so bad, I stopped using it unless I needed a special moving shot. I needed a a magsafe battery( which I didn't have, carried a plug-in battery) so I think this would have been better to use with a battery and sorta gimbal to help shot with the iphone.
I would be interested if the SnapGrip had dials to change shutter speed, aperture or iso. But It doesn't really seem to do much besides adding grip. Its definitely not going to make your phone like a dslr.
I don't think it's intended to mimic a full DSLR camera. It just converts your phone into something with a more comfortable grip with a DSLR style. If you plan on doing a lot of video and/or pics that day, this might be a way to go.
I love this channel we can always count on seeing great reviews on a variety of items.. For this item I wouldn't consider it for a dime over 19.99, for 70 dollars I would expect it do what it does, peel apples and warm up slices of pizza
I heard few things about I can see people who can use it for content creators which is great by the way keep it up James White on freakin reviews 👊🏾♥️.
Do all iPhones have jerky motion like in the Comfort & Stabilization section (5:45)? I'm an Android and PC guy so I have limited experience with Mac but the video iPhone video stood out significantly to me.q
I feel like this is for people who have never used a DSLR. Your phone already takes professional-level photos. I’m a photographer and I struggle with judging people who take photos on my level with their phone, lol. I do also use my phone sometimes, though, if I just need something easy. I bought some $5 little lenses with little clips for fish-eye/wide-lens effects, which work great. In the end, if I turn off my gatekeeping, the important thing is that people can capture what they want in the way they intended.
As a DSLR user going back a number of years I disagree. I see this as a way to gain a better grip on my phone, which I use alongside my DSLR. For the casual shooter it may hold less attraction, but I can see the appeal to those looking to improve their photography.
I always take advantage of using my volume buttons on my iPhone to take a picture. For me, it's much easier to hold the phone like a real camera. That said, I could see this product being useful especially if you take a lot of pictures or videos with your phone.
I'm like you I use the volume button for quick succession pictures then go to the gallery and erase the ones I don't need or want and later down the road I download to my computer and save them...... cheers :)
If you use the -volume button of the iPhone it does the same thing as the snapgrip and you can even take multiple pics in succession if you use +button.
Another thing is that I never hold my phone near the bottom. No matter if I'm in portrait or landscape. It's always near the middle. I do that 'cause it doesn't feel top heavy and I'm closer to the volume buttons that I use to take the pics and video. That might be why I feel like this grip would make it harder for me to keep the phone more steady 'cause I would have to be holding from the bottom area of the which is not what I normally do 'cause that has always been uncomfortable for me and far away from the volume buttons. Maybe it's good for people that hold their phone in the bottom area when using the camera. It just seems that for people that don't, then it would be more top heavy for us.
Another product that I have never heard about. I don't know how you find them all. Great review just not something I would use. Thanks, James. You're appreciated. 🥰
My favorite and preferred way to record or photograph with my phone is with an Android device. Preferably Samsung. No accessories needed. Thanks for your review. ps I don't watch video shorts on RUclips. My eyes are placed horizontally.

hmm, did you mess up the comparison part? at approx 06:12 you can hear, and see the speeding motorbike and that's WITH the snapgrip, but later when you show the "with" and "without" it's switched, so now we see the motorbike where it says "without snapgrip" on the top video at approx 06:28
Interesting product, but after watching this review I think it’s not necessary. Thanks for the great review. Love your channel and your content, keep it coming, cheers!
Battery life only works for devices capable of charging wirelessly. But I prefer my DSLR over my phone camera if I do anything professional because I can switch lenses depending on the case and shoot RAW/Log which I can't with my phone.
looked very minimal on adding stabilizaton, but actually looked as if the one with the grip dropped frames??, not sure why that would be but def looked that way

Iam here after a year of this review lol and what i can say is that this is more to make you feel that you are taking pictures with an actual camera rather than a phone and as for stabilization goes, I personally don't think it gives any because it is not a "gimbal" I think is more of a comfortable grip. greetings!
I own Sony cell phones exclusively. And one of my favorite features of them is they still have a physical button to snap the shutter or start recording a video. It makes a huge difference as far as stability goes. (And their phones take pictures that blow iPhone out of the water)
Holding down the button on the snapgrip to start recording video while you’re in camera mode, is NOT a feature of the snapgrip. You can do that without snapgrip or anything. Just hold down the button on the phone in camera mode, it’ll do the same thing. It’s a cool feature where you can have audio playing like Spotify, and it’ll capture whatever you’re listening too in the video while holding down the button to record.
Another excellent review! I definitely don't see the point in this. But people love to throw money away on stuff they will never use so it will probably be a hit.
James which cellphone are you using in this test. I now an apple, but, "I digress". Love your channel, my 82 year old mom and I would sit during my visits and watch a couple of your videos. Good video and review. I really dug the recent Las Vegas video. May I have some more sir?
I love your channel and appreciate all your reviews. When the video first started I saw no reason for this product and I still see no benefit for this product, I use my phone to produce content for my channel, and this product would not help me. My volume buttons are set to engage photos and video, so there is no problem for me holding my phone and taking video/photos. The price is too far out of range for any perceived benefit. You might wonder 'If you can not use this product, why write so much?" Because every comment benefits the channel and someday AI will read our comments and might weigh the quality of the statement to better engagement to the channel.
This product is the definition of "there's no such thing as bad product, only a bad price" It's decent at what it does but I can't understand why the manufacturer thinks it will sell at $70
The integrated stabilization makes the pan look like crap. That's not your or the grips fault but the image stabilization. If possible you should try without IS just to see if the snap grip makes that a viable mode. That said in most day use I prefer image stabilization as videos often get horribly shaky without it. But when it craps on you it can get pretty bad.
I've watched a lot of your videos now, and they're great reviews. I just felt compelled to say, after you mentioned that you don't do sponsored posts, that I honestly wouldn't mind if you did so long as you were open about it from the start. That said, and perhaps this is one of the reasons you're proud to say you don't do sponsored videos, it could affect the genuineness of your reviews even if that's not what you intend, so I applaud your decision to not go down that route. I guess, another point, is that I subscribe to your channel because you review products that are affordable to your average joe and your budget is probably limited for that reason. If you were to start reviewing ridiculously expensive products, sponsored or not, I'd be less interested and would probably unsubscribe.
Definitely not necessary but if you are a photographer that loves taking photos with your phone as well as your camera, it just makes things more convent. Especially if You have a MagSafe phone and don’t need to slap on the stick magnet.
I just purchased one for my Samsung s23 Ultra kind of liking it not going to lie I'm from Texas I'm going on a trip to Arkansas this weekend to the hot springs so I figured this might be a useful tool since I'm going to be taking lots of pictures

That said in most day use I prefer image stabilization as videos often get horribly shaky without it. But when it craps on you it can get pretty bad.
Snapchat when you're holding it at you
Dude! Is that a Utah Jazz Cap? Awesomesauce
It is just a tiny tad sharper using the grip on my screen.
Not a lot, but still noticeable
I must live in a cave because I have seen things on your channel that I did not even know existed lol.
On iPhone you can use the volume buttons to take pictures
I just use the volume buttons as my shutter button.
Will it work with the new iPhone 15 pro max?
Definitely not necessary but if you are a photographer that loves taking photos with your phone as well as your camera, it just makes things more convent. Especially if
You have a MagSafe phone and don’t need to slap on the stick magnet.
Hey, that's you in the eye optics ad!
Great review, 🎯maybe one of the grandkids might like this. Wait they're all in their 20s, probably already have one or 5.
It;s amazing! The SnapGrip changed all the cars that were on the highway!
does it have the capability of actually zooming in and out for a video?
I have the ProGrip, and i love it
iOS only? What about use with Samsung s23 ultra?
I just purchased one for my Samsung s23 Ultra kind of liking it not going to lie I'm from Texas I'm going on a trip to Arkansas this weekend to the hot springs so I figured this might be a useful tool since I'm going to be taking lots of pictures
I have never seen one single thing on this channel I would ever buy. Not one. Also I turned my cell phone into a DSLR by throwing it away and buying a Nikon 😂
There is so much stabilization on that iPhone you could be running in one shot and sliding across ice the next and you probably couldn’t tell.
Definitely looks more comfortable, and after a while, that will be important
