I'm trying to grab one of these used and there's almost no videos of it anywhere. I wouldn't take it past Drop A but how does it handle really aggressive picking? Thanks!
Cameron- Appreciate that-Its definitely wicked. That video did not do it any justice, we are going to be doing another one in the next month. We have a new mesa bass tube head that's been plaguing us with manufacturer problems. The next video will be way gooder. Cheers
Very interesting stuff! I'm not exactly a bass player myself but I'm messing around with extended range instruments and new possibilities. I'm primarily a piano keyboard player, I enjoy tinkering quite a bit and hope to build my own custom oddball stringed instrument (long term goal - lots of study going into that!). Thinking about a baritone guitar or short scale bass lately. I just subbed and I'll be taking a look at your other videos.
grey eminence- Welcome to the channel. I really appreciate the nice message . We are in it for the music, these videos are just part of the journey. I love piano, and all the instruments like you. If you ever want to chat baritones or extended range. Im always available Baritonecult@gmail.com Cheers Erin
The example, that longer scale doesn't save you from the dull-sounding low string. At this point, only Nordwall pickups from Dingwall shape that lowest tuning.
Mad Djentah, Heard good things about them, i think our bass sounds killer for our style music. I prefer neck through, but id love to have a dingwall - Cheers BC
Seems to me like the G isn't sounding too great. It may due to be string action or gauges. I have a 35.5" multi-scale tuned to G# (.140 .125 .105 .85) and it's pretty tight and punchy.
Raimonds-Yeah i can see how that came through in the video. It tracks like a dream recording though. Kalium is a string maker and Skip the owner suggested a 160 per the string calculator . Bunn suggested a 176 and Dingwall sells a 170 Im for sure not a expert but I'm really excited to have you subbed and commenting. We need Bass players on here and involved. You can probably help a lot of us out. Stay Awesome and Welcome to the channel
@@raimondskazuss5501 Bro i totally believe you, i have no doubt your set up. Im just glad you subbed because your a bass player, your into low tunings and im not a pro youtuber either. You and i chatting about gear is one of the reasons i started this channel. If i had a space ship id fly u over to jam lol. You know what im dealing w now , my new Mesa 4 88 bass head smoked up. I bought new old stock and its been getting fixed. When mesa designed it they didn't design it to handle all the power so it needed updated parts. We found the schematics online. Anyway you know how much we all put into learning our gear and instruments. Im really glad we can message each other. We can do email or phone if we ever go into more details. I actually brought up the topic in a video we filmed today about having a bass player in our click. Stay Awesome R
Aghh I love it. I might have to ask you. The .176 for low G is like $24.50 for 1 string. You might have to give me your receipe . Had to order them from kalium. They are awesome over there, really helped me out. I custom ordered this bass last year from mayones and when it showed up. It wasn't set up with my tuning or the strings i ordered. Pretty nice of them, left me to figure out the nut, tuner holes, and string gauges. Anyways im super pumped to have a bass player sub to this channel. Lets keep in touch, thanks Erin
Samuel Viden Welcome to the channel and thanks for the kind words. I ordered it probably close to 2 yrs ago. I ordered a Regius Baritone w it and i think it took about 9 months. Look up Sebastopol music out in Cali, Alain is a dealer for them, he took good care of me and handled all the ordering of 2 custom instruments. I love the bass but its not quite long enough , i play in a G alternate so there is a 176 on the low . Thats the reason i went w a 37 scale. I might have a longer scale bass built by a dif builder. Overall its an amazing instrument, i just need one longer so i can bring the gauge down. If your curious you can go to our channel and up top under the playlist there is some of our music. I used this bass in all the songs. Thanks for the nice comment & welcome - Erin
Are you saying your lowest string is G below low B? My god...you need a custom 18" subwoofer that can reach at least 25 HZ (F -3db) and bi-amp the 2 lowest strings through it and the 3 upper strings through a separately amped 4 x10" cabinet. Then you would hear the true sonic capability of the instrument. A 4 x10" cabinet is already rolling of at 45 HZ and feeding it a 25HZ signal or lower is crazy. It can't do it. All you hear is the psychoacoustic overtones implying the G below low B, not actually reproducing it.
Bass sounds GIANT!
Bunn, Thank you for helping me with the string gauges. Saved me so much headache
Another great video Erin

@@baritonecult622 Cool. I'm not a pro youtuber, but could make a video for you, showing my setup for low tunings - compression, overdrive etc

What type of juice did you soak those strings in? Damn!!

So YOU are the lucky owner of that bass! I've been wanting one myself for a long time. How/when did you order it?
