  • @kanesmith4961
    @kanesmith4961 2 года назад +2

    PSA: Those considering getting one should read the thread on Talkbass that demonstrates a significant design issue leading to weak B string output. The 5-string Fishman's magnetic field does not properly cover the B string when tilted to make a multi-scale instrument here, despite what the pup casing may indicate. It is not clear whether/how Spector fixed this issue after it was reported to them, so consumer beware. I wish Spector properly addressed this in public, I dislike my Dingwall NG3 for reasons and really wanted to get one of these.

    • @theshillpill6937
      @theshillpill6937 2 года назад

      This has apparently been addressed after the first round of models shipped. I’m actually getting one with EMGs in it so it should be fine for me. What do you not like about your NG3?

    • @kanesmith4961
      @kanesmith4961 2 года назад

      @@theshillpill6937 Dingwall FD-3N pickups aren't great to begin with and the Darkglass preamp feels like a chore to dial in. The G string and to a smaller extent D are weak and sterile after hours of pickup height adjustments. I'm also finding that I'm not happy with 3 pickup configurations in general. That's a permanent ramp. I like my space between two pups and utilize that for dynamics often. I think a 2 pickup Combustion would have been a much better fit for me. I do eventually find a sound I like here after much tweaking, but whenever I pick up my Ibanez EHB or Schecter Riot they are immediately excellent, so why bother.

      @@kanesmith4961 I don't know how one prefers the Ibanez EHB over a Spector. I had one and could never get a sound I wanted out of it with three different pickup swabs, stock Bartolini, Aguilars and finally Nordstrand.

    • @bassandkeys8178
      @bassandkeys8178 2 года назад

      There isn't a design issue. It's literally two guys in Talkbass complaining about it. They probably don't know how to eq. I gig with mine and the B, which is tuned to A, has the same output as the other strings. It's actually very easy to test. I play my open E and compare it to my fretted E on the B string and they ring out at the same level.

    • @PeterZarate
      @PeterZarate Год назад

      The frets fan out from the 9th fret on the Spector, but the 7th fret on Dingwalls. That’s a big reason for the difference - but the scale lengths are the same (34” on G to 37” on B).

      @@steffomca762 yes it really gives you more tone and more sustain than a standard bass. It also makes for a tighter more defined B and other notes as well. I can also tune it lower with out it getting muddy or sacrificing sustain. So yes believe the hype. I'm sure it's not just Spector either. I have played warwick multiscale, dingwall, and ibanez basses and they all have the same characteristics also. Spector and Dingwall can tune the lowest without problems because it's a 37 inch scale length. I did a ton of research before pulling the trigger on the Spector. To me it was fit and finish over Dingwall. Price was about the same. Hope this helps and if you get the NS Dimension I hope you love it as much as I do.
