Jeez, what stupid people there are. I have had a few similar experiences as a married gay man. I was in the Diabetic Foot Clinic and the nurse, a Nigerian woman, was giving me an antibiotic. She asked me whether I had someone to take care of me at home. I told her that my husband would do that. She looked at me kind of funny, and asked me, "But aren't you a Christian who goes to church?" I told her that yes, I was, yes I did, and not every church believes that samesex marriage is a sin. I told her that all the African people in church accepted my husband as my husband, they all loved him to bits, and we had been together for 19 years. She didn't say anything more, but I'm hoping she thought about the matter.
Thanks for telling us that part of your story. I'm sure it was hard going through it and writing about it. You're a strong dude.

Just finished the audio book! Incredible! I learned a lot from your book. My neice is dating a trans man who i love dearly, but wanted to learn more so I could be more informed about what they might be experiencing. I had no idea the turmoil that trans people go through. Thank you for helping me along that path. 💜

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry you had to deal with all that crap! I was cringing throughout the video partly because those are just not fun experiences, but also because they are so recognizable and relatable! :/ One of the worst doctor appointments I ever had was when I was 12, and I went to see our family physician for my annual physical. She was a lesbian (which I don't have a problem with, but it's relevant information for this story), and she kept asking me all these super awkward questions about who I was attracted to. She kept asking me if I had crushes on boys or girls, and when I answered that I liked boys, she kept pressing me and pressing me about it, saying, "you know, you can tell me if you like girls; it's okay if you like girls", etc., etc., and it was just so frustrating because she just wouldn't listen or believe me! And THEN, she made me lie on the table, while she lifted up my pants so she could look around down there, and made really awkward comments about how things were "looking fine" and "healthy", etc. GOSH, it was AWFUL - and I was only TWELVE, for crying out loud!!! And what she really should have asked anyway was not "do you like boys or girls?", but rather, "would you rather BE a boy or a girl?" Because although I was biologically a "girl", I always knew I didn't want to be a girl - and it was pretty damn obvious; I was quite the "tomboy" and was always read as a boy by strangers at that age. And I was wearing boxer shorts (as I always did) under my baggy cargo pants at that appointment, too. Good lord, that woman turned me off of going to the doctor for the next few years, actually; I refused to go in for physicals for the longest time after that, because it was just so horrible. And to make things even more infuriating, my mom talked to this doctor a few years ago after I'd "come out" as a trans guy (because my mom still goes to this person as her primary physician), and the woman replied, "Ya' know, I always wondered that about that child..." Well jeez, woman, if you'd always wondered that, why didn't you tell me about puberty blockers and hormones and all those other things I could've done to stop the female puberty from ever happening in the first place?!!! Damn! Would've been nice to have known about, so I didn't have to go through such an awful adolescence of being ravaged by estrogen and then because of it had to go through top surgery, not to mention all the emotional crap that comes along with having a body that's not aligned with your gender identity... sigh. Oh, and I still am attracted to guys...so she really was wrong about that (which I tried to tell her...)
ANYWAY, I didn't start out with this comment intending to write that much (sorry), but this was just super relatable! And I was mad at many of these medical characters on your behalf throughout your reading. ...I could also relate to the big fat "F" on the medical bracelets, and to the ultrasounds...I had to go through cancer treatment a few years ago, at a point in my life when I had "socially" transitioned for the most part, and had actually just had top surgery (thank goodness), but my gender marker hadn't been changed yet, and I wasn't on T. So I had a mix of really great hospital experiences during cancer treatment, where people actually looked at the notes on my chart about my pronouns and my situation, as well as kind of bad experiences, where people totally just called me a girl or a "young woman" and "she/her"-ed me.
Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this, Sky! I definitely need to go order your book now!!! :) And sorry again you had to go through those things; I feel ya'... :/

In regards to the last story, i think you might have dug yourself a hole by telling the girl that "im 6 months on hormones and i feel great". Thats generally pretty personal information so after telling her that im not suprised that she took it as a queue to ask you personal questions
