That does make sense. I'm not an expert but it did always seem funny to me that everyone on RUclips spends ages refining their solutions when a quick shot followed by a dive was the more intelligent option.
Rosseloh thanks for the comment. Yeah put yourself in a real captain’s shoes! The uboat is the worst armored, defended, boat in the world. You have to be quick, and evasive! Most navies thought the uboat at this time was a coward weapon!
@@SH3Bstanko6 Now if only I could actually get myself in a position to make a quick shot. A week ago I had never heard of Silent Hunter. Decided to jump in the deep end (WoS, real nav, the whole gamut)...not regretting it thus far, even though all I've managed to do is get my crew killed.
WPLU572 Trunked Radio hello friend. The submarine during WW1 was a strange thing... having a strong surface navy made your country a superpower. Great Britain can surely say they were at the time. But a uboat was seen as evil and underhanded... BUT... was seen to have great potential! That is why when both WW1 and WW2 ended all of the allied nations took uboats for themselves to study, copy, and advance them for themselves. They hated Germany for using them, but they cannot argue the genius in how Germany utilized them. No other country made the submarine more deadlier than Germany!
@@SH3Bstanko6 your comment about how Germany was so clever using U-Boots is arguable... they did a lot, and developed revolutionary tactics... but despite that Type VII had his shortcomings and they weren't really capable of being fully converted from submergibles into submarines with Snorkel... a task that Balao class proved to be capable of. On the other hand, USA silent service crippled Japan merchant ships and sea supplies, and RN Submarines in the mediterranean broke down Italian supply line that severely hampered North Africa's war effort. Germany didn't manage to replicate in WW2 the ammount of damage performed in WW1, despite how spectacular u-boot campaign was, it was not a challenge for RN (and later RN+USN) ASW effort
I've been having trouble with the AOB but I think this video made it "click" for me. I've been thinking at the angle from my boat, but if AOB 0 is coming straight at me and 180 is heading straight away from me, then I should be thinking of the angle of my sub from the target not the other way around. Right? If I put myself in the targets shoes it becomes a lot easier.
@@SH3Bstanko6 I tried this out in todays patrol(s) and it really made it a lot more fun, plus it upped my tonnage. Estimate speed with either the nomograph or the "seconds across the crosshairs" method, estimate AOB and bang. Sure, I miss some, especially when they start to zig zag but it's a lot more fun than measuring angles and fiddling with the attack disc. Thank you for the tutorials!
How are your ships so cool looking, my are quite boring. Which SH3 mod got you the great looking merchants? I agree with you, I have all these silly wheels that just give you a headache, simple is better.
@@SH3Bstanko6 Ok, the one you hit - Its not completly 90 but he is going closer to you, so it's between 45-90 degree, more like 60. Am I getting it right? Not 30 like you say

M.E.P.5 is a great download. You can find it on subsim.
What simulator is this ? Sh5
It’s Silent Hunter 3.
It looks like SH5 Steel Wolves because of the telegraph and text log.
@franz9276 wow I’m old!
Isn't he closer to 90?
Crunchu I may have gotten mixed up because of the ship in front but still... the bridge is going to give your information.
