- "The Third West Cork Brigade" is an Irish rebel song about the struggle of the 3rd Cork Brigade (also known as the Third West Cork Brigade), commanded by the legendary Tom Barry, against the British in the western region of county Cork throughout the War of Independence during which he oversaw the victories over the Saxons on the battlefields of Kilmichael and Crossbarry.

I am Irish-American and finally visited Ireland. It was beautiful. A tear was brought to my eye when I heard an old Irish Independence song in a bar, a tear of joy. So glad to see the Irish living their own lives, but unfortunately James Connolly never saw his grand vision brought to fruition.

Read Tom Barry’s “Guerilla days in Ireland.” and get the feel for steady courageous men and women - a tiny percentage - who fought and died to rid their native land from conquerors. You are Slavic and whether Pole, Croat, or any other Slav you will relate again with a tear. BTW Tom Barry led the Third West Cork.

As a German, I 💓 and honoured Ireland so so much.
But I don't know why, my interest in this nation came at some point.
Later, by a happy coincidence, I found out that Dublin and Bonn (former official capital of Germany 1949-1991) resumed diplomatic relations on 26.07.1951.
Since I was born on 26.07.2001, my interest only increased.
What emotionally gripped me more still impressed was,
Operation Shamrock:
"Operation Shamrock was a humanitarian relief effort by the Irish Red Cross in the aftermath of World War II. It rescued over 1,000 German, Austrian and French orphans or other needy minors from possible starvation."
